Had dinner with my family. The food was delicious. Tried a pasta dish with shrimp ( I know pasta at a Mexican restaurant ), but it was really good. A nice change from the traditional tacos or enchiladas. Both my kids got wet burritos and they were huge. I tried a bite of my daughter's burrito, and it was quite tasty. My wife had tacos, and she enjoyed them. My son in law had what looked like soup. He told me what it was but for the life of me, I can't remember what he said it was. I know it wasn't abondagas. But he said he really enjoyed it. Our server was Maggie and she was excellent. She was very friendly and attentive. Five stars for Maggie. Definitely recommend this place. read more

Very fun place to eat in downtown San Pedro. The ambiance is very charming and festive. The service was very good. Our food was spectacular. I ordered a trio Fajita Dinner ( Shrimp, beef and chicken). This meal came with fresh, homemade tortillas. The restaurant serves complimentary chips and salsa's. We ate at Kalaveras on W 5th St in San Pedro based off the recommendation of the staff at our hotel. So glad we took their advice! The Cadillac margarita was fantastic! Our waiter, Isaac, suggested the molcajete for my wife and I to share. We've had this at our local restaurant, but this was on a whole new level!! It was amazing. Delicious food, the outdoor seating was relaxing, and Isaac's service and hospitality made for a wonderful evening. I went here for my birthday dinner last week and it was truly a vibe. Definitely is giving aesthetically pleasing and picture worthy. I made reservations in advance, but it was not that busy on a Wednesday night so I don't think we would've had much of a wait period for Wednesday. It is Mezcal Wednesday and all of the Mezcal drinks are half off, but my party was not a fan of Mezcal... Give us the tequila! I feel as if the food is decently price for the amount that you get and they have a pretty good selection of options. The drinks were pretty delicious. I went with the margarita flight and shots of tequila. I would have given five stars, but even though the restaurant wasn't super packed, the service was quite slow and it took some time to get our drinks. I had to ask for certain things at least three times before they came... Something as simple as a cup of ice . But with that being said, I would definitely go back maybe for a margarita Monday or taco Tuesday PS if you do have a birthday, they were willing to store our cake for us until we needed it and provided a knife and plates. read more

I want to start off by saying they had really great service! Our waiter was attentive and was always there to answer any questions. Overall, it's a very cute place for photos and the drinks were good! The reason for the 3 star rating was being that the food was pretty average. It didn't really stand out to me. I think the best thing I ate was the aguachiles BUT only order it if you can realllly handle spice. It was refreshing, very spicy but the shrimp did taste a bit too fishy at certain times. They give you free chips and salsa as well! My partner ordered 4 tacos: barbacoa and carne asada. They were pretty standard tacos. The barbacoa was a bit dry. I had been dying to try Kalaveras because I've seen friends in IG raving about it. I finally had the chance to try it and I have to say it was delicious and worth the hype. I had the chicken fajitas and the margarita flight. My favorite margarita was the strawberry one. They get a star taken away because the portions are small. You do get full but for the price it should be a little more food. The inside of the restaurant ir very cute and they have nice wall art as well as a mirror tunnel. Super cute! On our most recent returns to Kalaveras we dabbled in the new Birria Tacos (super delicioso) along with one our regulars... the Enchiladas de Cameron, always a good pick. For our libations we decided to change it up as we'd previously had many of their signature cocktails and instead we went with a couple of Classic Old Fashions. Yes we took the chance. You wouldn't expect much at a Mexican restaurant because we all know the margarita is king or should I say queen in this arena. Well what an amazing and pleasant surprise it was to have possibly the best Old Fashioned we'd tasted in all of San Pedro, thanks to Karina. Accompanied by a cool block ice cube with a "K"monogrammed on the top side of each ice cube. Great touch! Great service as always. Great vibe. Fun crowd. We went for Cinco De Mayo and their was service was so slow and horrible. We got there early around 5:30pm We got seated but we waited 10 minute till we asked what we wanted. The waiter didn't acknowledge the wait and took our drink order. It took them such a long time to bring the drinks. Plus they brought 2 out the drinks wrong and they forgot our 2 appetizers which took another 15-20 mins. At the point we were done our first drinks . We order the guacamole but they forgot to bring the chips and we asked them for chips and salsa and that took longer . So while waiting for our 2nd round of drinks and starters it took them 25 minute. Our waiter never checked on us and we always had to wave him done. When we were ready to order food. He took our order but never input it just took it for memory. Of course got all our orders wrong. The waiter for food was so long.Then our friend who order Fajita was missing tortillas and we all didn't have any new utensils sets cause they took it when they cleared our appetizers. Overall it was our first time checking it out and are locals but I don't think we will be come back and will share our experience. It's unfortunate since the restaurant looks nice and the ambience is cool but there are other great places near by the downtown San Pedro area but offer a variety great food but much better service and know how to treat their customers to make sure they return and become regulars. Well I had high hopes for this trendy spot but I was disappointed by the lack of service and basic attention. We arrived and was seated immediately. After that it took 15 mins and me stopping a waiter that just got off work to get service. Mind you there were plenty of servers but they only stopped at a couple of tables. Once our server came and took our order, it was like a murder mystery. That would be the last time we see him come to the table or for that matter ANYONE stop by. Two people brought half our meal and then we didn't get service until I asked for the check and to remove the items that I did not receive. I actually had to stop another waiter in order to get anyones attention. The table next to use was starting the same issue we had by asking for service. I'm sad that this is way we had to end our visit. Hopefully they get there act together. The drinks was good and the partial meal was actually very tasty. read more

Just came from this location and after 15mins of getting seated. No one came to our table to ask if we wanted anything to drink or at least waters. Two gentlemen got seated next to us and immediately got asked for drinks. 5 mins later (yes I waited 20mins) a waiter came and asked for our drink order. "2 cocktails and some chips for now. " Gave us our drinks and never saw the guy. Never got chips and salsa. Never came to ask us if we wanted another drink. Had to ask another waiter for our check. So... we have a few visits under our belt now so I guess it's time... First off, every visit has been better than the one prior. Definitely a good sign. Service was borderline exceptional / to fantastic, very attentive and Uber friendly. My granddaughters (while more "Latin" than I) were hesitant to order in "Latin tongue" than I so wifey took care. Kinda funny cuz our waiter said "it's not uncommon". Me and my "not as white as I thought ass" never had a problem rolling my tongue... Attended Kalavera's for lunch. We arrived at 1:15pm on a Sunday and during the time Sunday brunch was taking place. We were greeted by the waiter whom asked us if we wanted to attend brunch with only 45 mins to enjoy or regular menus. This was my family's first time (as for myself have gone multiple times before). I appreciated the honesty and warm welcome when she allowed my family to check out the buffet to see if this was an option they wanted. The brunch is $40 per person with unlimited mimosas from 10am-2pm. However we opted to order from the menus. We were sitting for about 10 minutes before being approached by a waiter (understandable) seeing brunch was near ending and from what we seen majority of folks were there for brunch. We were greeted by our waiter who wasted no time checking in to seeing what we wanted. He was quick, nice and efficient. Chips and salsa came out in minutes. We ordered the Taquitos Dorados (SUPER BOMB) as an appetizer which also came out quick. We also ordered Chicken tacos, Salmon tacos, Enchiladas de Camaros and Tacos Gobernador. Plating was incredible, service just overall amazing! For dessert we ordered blueberry cheesecake and flan. Ambiance was warm, welcoming and inviting that my family would love to come back try the brunch option. To our waiter not sure his name, maybe in his later 30's thank you for your wonderful service! Great place for drinks and okay mexican food. The food is honestly decent, but it helps to have drinks. The inside is pretty hip, and the ambiance is trendy. It is a tad bit dark indoors and loud depending on the night but the service is great and everyone is nice. Only problem I ran into was a shortage of utensils. We received our food and waited about 5 minutes staring at it until they brought us forks. No biggie. We tried the kala burrito- $16 steak with fries and guacamole. The wet burrito- $16 or so. about the same thing with red sauce We got the esquite-$12 which is the Mexican street corn. Not worth it. It's not your typical street corn with cheese and mayo and tapatio. It's got added spaghetti like tomato sauce and tastes like they tried to add a fancy twist but failed to realize esquite is supposed to be cheap street food. The drinks - we got a flight of margaritas for 35 dollars. Tiny but worth for the variety of flavors. It had a lot of alcohol for such tiny drinks. Me and my girlfriend were not expecting to feel anything off the tiny samples but left feeling like we were done for the night. -parking around the block in the arts district of San Pedro. My colleague and I were thinking where we were going to have lunch, since there's so many places to eat here in San Pedro. Then she asks me "have you gone to Kalaveras?" I said no I haven't. So we decide to come here. The restaurant: When we walk up to the entrance my eyes widen with amazement at how beautiful and unique this place is. The waitstaff: We received good service. All our food was just like we ordered it. The appetizer: Guacamole with pork rinds! It's was delicious! The main course: The meatballs soup was amazing! The conclusion: I love the food, the atmosphere and the beautiful decor! You definitely need to come here. I'll be coming back soon but this time for Happy Hour. During a recent trip back to California, we enjoyed Mexican food at Kalaveras in San Pedro. The one thing that immediately grabbed our attention was the colorful, skull-inspired artwork on the exterior and interior walls. We sat outside on the patio in order to enjoy the cool evening breeze. Eric, our server, was friendly and welcoming. Mario, the manager, checked on us multiple times. My family ordered and enjoyed the Kaval Bowl and Combination Platter. I tried the tacos and was a little disappointed. The tacos came with meat and veggies but no sauce. They tasted very dry and not super flavorful. We had shared the Queso Fundido appetizer. We told Eric that we just wanted the chips and cheese. Thus, we didn't want all of the extras, including chorizo, shredded carrots or fried jalapeños. We were later disappointed to find out that they charge the same price ($16) for just the melted cheese and chips or tortillas. We would definitely consider returning to Kalaveras the next time we're in San Pedro. read more

First time visiting San Pedro, a friend took us here. I liked the ambiance and vibe of the place. The menu had a good selection and quite a few vegan options or things you could make vegan. The food was really good, quality was there I really enjoyed my meal and so did the others in my party. I do feel like the margarita was a bit too acidic made my stomach hurt a bit pretty soon after drinking it. I would of easily have this place a 4 or a 5 but the service was awful. After getting our food the server was no where to be found. Never came to offer us more water, more alcohol or to bring us our check. I even had to flag down another server to try and find our server as she was no where to be found. Someone in my party literally had to hunt her down to get our check. If you want to be forgotten about by your server this is the place for you. Honestly, I don't think I've had worse service. read more
