Everytime I've been here has been quite chill and great for chatting with friends and family. You can even get a birthday song for you! The service was okay. Cool vibe Mexican restaurant for sure!! Definitely a much needed addition to restaurants in Simi Valley! They have quite the bar and tequila selection! Their drink menu is fancy however as tasty as the ones we tried were...? They seriously lacked alcohol! They're making a lot of money on their weak drinks no doubt! This restaurant is loud so be prepared!! Great for birthdays especially for those who like being the center of attention - very fun and wild! And their "special Happy Birthday Show" is only for those who buy the 6 candy shot pkg (which are kind of gross and lack alcohol) and at $10 each? What a way to rob your customers! Come on Kalaveras! You could do so much better! The service was "good" yet our young server was very preoccupied with visiting with friends at the bar and failed to check on us with long stints of waiting to order another round. Our large table of 11 were decently tended to... Your servers definitely need better training in food/customer service. It was very busy because it was Taco Tuesday - a popular deal for $1.49 tacos but again be prepared for tiny street tacos with maybe a tablespoon of meat! Not sure if I'd call that a deal. Kalaveras, is a Mexican Restaurant and Bar, that has several locations in California. The closest spot for me was the destination at Simi Town Center in Simi Valley. I stopped by for lunch. Walking in, one is immersed in a well designed and decorated space that includes just the right amount of neon lighting. The music selection is super and the tables stand out elegantly with simple, but striking plate settings (see my many pictures of the interior). It is a different and nice welcoming ambiance. The complimentary salsa rojo and chips were good, but I needed more kick so I asked for their picante version. This salsa amarilla was right on the money, good heat, optics and texture. For the main, I ordered two tacos. One, a carne asada, the other with camarones. Both were mild in flavor but tasty, with the shrimp taco at the right temperature. The steak taco would have blended better if the meat was hot or warm, at the least. Instead, it was at ambient temperature. The menu has several other enticing selections. There are reasonably priced specials every day, especially in the alcohol department (see my photos). Definitely worth many more return visits. read more

Seen this place for awhile. Saw they had lunch at$13.99 so we tried it today. Ordered 2 crispy tacos,Ric and beans. Those were good but the taco's are not good. Large chunks of stewed pork that wasn't carnitas. Carnitas is partially fried. They should chop it up and make a crispy taco properly. Very little lettuce, although there was chopped cabbage under them and very little cheese. Poor production of those tacos. I could do way better at home. Decent salsa. My wife had the chicken tostada salad and it was ok, but not worth $14. Won't go back. And why does it take so long to get your check and leave?. Crazy bull crap read more

The flowers on the ceiling and wall were nice, and the server was nice once he finally showed us attention, but that's about the only positives. I'm actually surprised this is a franchise, because our food just wasn't good, and it was twists on traditional Mexican food, but not even done well. For example, the guacamole wasn't smashed, so there were big chunks of avocado that broke the chips. They added some type of cheese on top which took away from the flavor. The dragon roll was okay, some of our party liked it, others didn't, but none of us felt the need to order it again. The fajitas were a disappointment. The steak was bland and chewy, the veggies had no flavor, and the chicken was also bland. The shrimps were the shining star of the fajitas, but there's only a handful. Lastly, the music was very loud. We went early afternoon and it sounded like a night club even though there were only a few tables there. I ate here once a long time ago and it sucked so I decided to give it one more try. I waited to be sat for what seemed like 10 to 15 minutes. A waiter acknowledge just a few times and kept doing what he was doing. Finally, someone came and saw us. Then we sat in our booth for another at least 15 minutes. No water nothing. Finally got up and left and went to Don Cuco's instead and had an awesome time with awesome food and awesome service. This place is still fucking sucks. read more

Be warned though, if you go in the evening especially on the weekends, it does have a night club feel (they sometimes have a dj lol). I've been to several of these locations, and the brunch is consistently great! The food, drinks, and vibe make it a fun weekend spot. That said, I do find the menu a bit pricey outside of brunch for what you get--but it's still enjoyable overall. What really stands out is the atmosphere. We had an experience!! The place has a cool vibe with a bit of a younger crowd. We were in town for my Aunts funeral and after a long travel day we wanted to grab dinner. It was very loud and we could hardly hear eachother. The food prices were a bit high but the food was good and had large portions. We had a couple margaritas which were tasty and refreshing. Worst experience of my life. We were told it would be a 15-20 minute wait for 2 people and ended up waiting 1 hour. At 25 min. I went up to the hostess to see how much longer the wait would be and she said we were next. 20 minutes go by and watching people walk in and get seated immediately so I go up to the hostess again and ask how much longer. She said she thought she had already sat us so she said our table was ready didn't apologize or anything.... We sit down at a table with the sun blinding us and didn't get water for 15 min. Then wait for another 10 for our waitress to come and ask if we're ready to order without looking at us on her iPad. We said yes and told her what we wanted to order to which she replied "hold on" and walked away all while not looking at us once or even saying sorry or excuse me. At that point it was just so beyond insane and rude we got up and left. Our server watched us get up and leave and didn't even try to stop us or apologize or anything. I have never experienced this type of treatment before. I get it if the kitchen was backed up or not enough people working that day, that's totally fine I'm patient but to have such a poor and rude attitude the whole time and not have the decency to apologize is insane. read more

Kalaveras in Simi Valley is a 10/10 restaurant! We go there almost every other week! The food is amazing, the music is always great and the experience is simply fun. My favorite dish is the chicken taquitos and my husband has tried every enchilada and swears the best is the shrimp enchilada. It is a great place to celebrate birthdays and in the evenings the music is blasting with a live DJ. The servers are always working hard and are super friendly. We finally attended for a brunch and it is the most fun brunch for miles. The buffet has such an incredible spread and the desserts are stellar. Overall, you should definitely go here. read more

It was my birthday yesterday and my husband and I decided to check out Kalaveras. It's located in the same plaza by Lowe's in Simi Valley. The parking lot was filled on a Wednesday evening and we found a spot. Our server was Jair and he brought amazing energy to the vibrant restaurant. The ambiance felt very trendy and young, which thankfully we still enjoy in our 30's hahaha. It was happy hour on Mon-Fri 3-7pm and we were able to enjoy the $5 off Mezcal cocktails for Wednesdays. I got the Fuego de Dragon ($13) and it came in a really cool smokey coffin presentation by the waitress. My husband go the HH hazy IPA ($5.50). We shared the HH Esquite ($10) that had the most spice on it compared to the complimentary chips and red salsa. We both ordered 2 tacos from the HH selection ($3.50 each) and everything in it was good except the taco was breaking down the fold with all the juicy meats and toppings on it so it was kinda messy to eat. I also got a guavarita from their summer margaritas and it was a refreshing drink ($4.99). They also do special birthday celebration song and drink for a presentation which was really fun!! We were there maybe only an hour to dine and drink and all our food and beverages came out FAST and hot, which I really like. Again, I would come again and see if we can get served by Jair because he was the best! He always checked on us, brought us more chips and our plates were cleared right away when they were done. The staff is by far the best very cheerful and just full of energy. This is my 2nd Kalavera location I have been to and the staff here are by far the most energetic people ever. Best dancers too!!!
