I love ramen and have visited countless shops over the years, so I tend to be a bit picky. Kamado isn't bad, but for more than $24 for a bowl of chicken ramen and edamame, it didn't quite hit the mark. The place is clearly geared toward takeout, which is fine, but the experience was a bit impersonal, especially with the narrow bar and wooden box seating. The broth was solid, probably the highlight, but everything else in it was kinda average. You don't have many options for Ramen here. That said, if you're in the area and craving ramen, Kamado will satisfy. Just don't expect to be blown away. read more

While at Stovehouse, I decided I wanted Ramen. So I went to Kamado Ramen. The inside of the restaurant was pretty cool with wall pictures and random trinkets. The menu was fairly easy to read and understand. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen. Overall, I was satisfied with the dish. All the ingredients individually tasted good. The only thing I wasnt completely satisfied with was the broth. It was kinda plain. But I didn't notice that until all the noodles and everything was gone and I was just drinking the broth. So I guess not that big of a concern lol. If I went back to Stovehouse, I would try a different place though. read more

I got my favorite bowl of ramen that I always get at kamado, but this time... it was awful. It tasted like dirty gym socks had marinated in my broth. I eat there often, but this has been the 3rd time it just hasn't been up to par. The mid city location is always great, but this is a hard decline. There was more roaches than "normal" crawling around the floor.. I get it being in a strip mall like food place, but this was just awful experiences the last 3 times. I'm not returning dirty. So our most recent visit involved some of their small plate items. The pork belly was most excellent - highly recommend! I think what kept me from five-starring Kamado on my previous visits was a little bit of a pet peeve that I had to just get over - traffic management. More of a problem at their Stovehouse location struggles with this more than the Mid-City location (which is larger). The Stovehouse location is tight quarters and seems to do a very healthy take-away business. Unfortunately l, for those who want to dine in, that means people waiting for their take-away orders are hovering in the walkways blocking the ability to refill drinks or even leave. I'm more than happy that Kamado does a healthy business, and the size of their location was probably based on the work opening day, but their food has caught on and gained a following. I still like the back alley Kyoto feel of the Stovehouse location, but we tend to gravitate to MidCity because of their ability to handle our large crew. read more

Great ramen place for vegans! the veggie bowl was very reasonably priced, hot, came out fast, had beautiful presentation, and tasted delicious. Location is awesome, outdoor games and seating inside and outside the restaurant. I'd say inside the restaurant is also a great spot for pictures. Not super excited the noodles are green but I understand they are made with kale or spinach that gives the color? Also not excited about the whole bob of corn. After spending 4 years in Japan, I can say that this is as close to authentic ramen as you can get. The (r4) Spicy Miso Ramen was very creamy with the perfect amount of spice. I didn't know that they already put butter corn and scallops in the ramen already, so I ordered extra. The staff were very polite and had our ramen done very fast. The fact that they provided authentic Japanese beverages, such as calpico and unsweetened Japanese green tea, added to the experience. Due to the space limitations that they have, they can't provide much seating, but they did a very good job with what space they do have of making you feel like you are at a ramen shop in Japan. I almost reviewed Kamado several months ago when I visited and got only appetizers because it was too hot outside for ramen. I'm glad I waited till I'd experienced their main offering to form a total judgment, because I liked their ramen far better than the apps! Like other Stovehouse joints, this Kamado (not to be confused with their new location at MidCity) is a tiny order at the counter restaurant. Unlike other Stovehouse restaurants, during non-Covid times some people are allowed to sit and eat at the bar. Seating was limited even then, though, and now they respectfully ask that you enjoy your meal outside or in Stovehouse's dedicated indoor dining area. Their main deal is ramen, but they also have some other popular Japanese street food like karaage, gyoza, and takoyaki. Their ramen selection is fairly diverse. They run a robust carryout business and have it operating like a well-oiled machine. I appreciate how carefully the ramen noodles and toppings are packaged so they don't get soggy riding in the broth on the way home. The bowls also come wrapped in a neat carrying case. Very cool. In the past, when I just got apps, I tried the gyoza and the karaage. These were both...not amazing. The gyoza was okay, but didn't have a ton of flavor, not even the dipping sauce. I really didn't like the karaage. It was rubbery, not super crispy, and had a ton of dark meat chicken pieces, which I didn't like. On my next visit, last weekend, it was cold enough to try out the ramen. I got spicy miso ramen, and I really enjoyed it! Toppings and noodles were abundant, and the broth was rich, flavorful, and definitely spicy. I would get this dish again and I look forward to trying different flavors, like the kimchi ramen, in the future. I'm no ramen connoisseur as options have been pretty much limited to the instant variety in Huntsville until only recently, but I'm definitely happy they're here to help me expand my knowledge and understanding of the dish. read more

I really liked Kamado Ramen for a quick, easy and satisfying hot bowl of food. We popped in on a Saturday night and while the place is very small on the inside and it was busy, the two chefs were hustling. We ordered the crispy Brussels sprouts, spicy miso ramen and the Tonkotsu ramen. Both bowls of ramen were the highlights flavor-wise; tons of spices, garlic and a nice amount of heat. The Brussels were kind of disappointing, they weren't super crispy or seasoned nearly as well as the ramen. You can really tell it's a rich broth made with love. When I went to Stovehouse it was a small petite, semi quiet yet laid back atmosphere. Very clean and friendly staff. I started off with a basic ramen with meat and added an egg. My first sip of the broth and I knew I was addicted!!! Went back on Saturday at Midcity. Nice vibe, kinda busy (expected) but not bad. Delicious, authentic ramen in a (tiny and, when it's hot outside, steamy inside) shop. I got the spicy tonkatsu and better half got the spicy miso. Both were well prepared, ingredients were fresh, and it's spicy but not to the point you felt like you couldn't taste the flavors. I also got the edamame because I'm a glutton and it was delicious. Unlike some of the other reviews stated, I saw no issues with service--everyone was super friendly--and the ingredients in each dish are clearly stated on the menu so there's really no excuse for being mad at things like traditional fish cake being in your chicken ramen. read more

I got the spicy Tonkatsu ramen and takoyaki for about $21 total. Expected price, maybe seems a lil pricy but I've had more expensive ramen ($15 by itself approx) that wasn't as flavorful and didnt have as many toppings. The broth is REALLY good, the spicy oil is quite spicy too. The egg is soft boiled perfectly, the other toppings are high quality. Very much worth it!! The takoyaki was also very good but I didn't have mayonnaise on mine which is kind of a staple topping. Nonetheless, very good. They don't have bubble/boba tea but the crepe location next to it does. The place is very small and only has single seats so don't bring another person unless you expect to sit outside (they have tables under heaters + fire pit seating + a whole public indoor section. I decided since it's my birthday, it's raining, and I hadn't gotten to try Kamado Ramen that today was the day. Honestly I tried to not expect too much since this was our first "real" ramen place in Huntsville but to keep being honest if you LOVE ramen then this place isn't for you. The broth lacked a lot of flavor and the noodles were quite thick, like spaghetti. Maybe we should've let it sit because the noodles were kinda under al dente. The gyoza is good but you can get gyoza just as good from any other restaurant in town. The karaage wasn't at all what I expected, for almost $8 they were kinda awkwardly breaded crispy on some, mushy on others. It's dark meat and spicy so that's good to know if you're thinking of ordering. Jin Ramen in Atlanta is amazing and I wasn't trying to directly compare the two places but I also make better ramen at home. So like I said if you love ramen as much as I do and require seasoning then you should probably just learn to make it at home. The to-go set up is indeed really neat and they do separate their noodles if you are getting it Togo, we are outside so ours sat in the broth which again is why I was kinda shocked they were so chewy. read more

This place is new, popular, and very small, which means you can expect crazy wait times when you show up. We went on a Sunday after church and arrived about 10 minutes before they opened ... and there were already people waiting in line. By the time the shop opened and we got up to the counter to order, the line was out the door and into the food garden area. It stayed packed the entire time we were there and it was difficult to move around if you didn't snag a spot at the bar or if you went to the drink machine. My husband and I both ordered the chicken ramen and a side of kara-age. My husband had never had ramen before (he tried pho and hated it), but he enjoyed the ramen. Next time he said he would order it without most of the toppings because he's picky. I really enjoyed the chicken ramen. The broth was great and everything was cooked perfectly. It was overall a great bowl of ramen that really hit the spot. The kara-age completely stole the spotlight, though. As another yelper said, they really are akin to little chicken nuggets covered in a spicy sauce. They are absolutely incredible. My husband and I have been dreaming longingly of having it again. The shop is in the Stovehouse Food Garden. It's tiny and only has a few seats inside, all of which overlook the cooking area, which is pretty neat. Bottom line: really nice ramen, REALLY nice chicken, mediocre location. Set in the middle of an old factory, Kamado is a pretty new place with a short menu. Broth in the pork tonkatsu ramen was really nice, and the included egg was perfectly cooked, but it was basically just a soft boiled egg, not the soy braised version I'm used to seeing. The pork was well cooked, but two thin very thin slices was a bit underwhelming. Ak, but the chicken kaarage. Think of it as chicken nuggets with flavor! Beautifully cooked, served with a nice sauce, in a portion size that was clearly Westernized (i.e., big) - very nice! I would order this on its own in the future. My only complaint is that you have to hunt to find it. The building has two parking lots, with unclear signage from the road. If you park on the side of the building with the traffic light, you will not find the restaurant unless you ask one of the office drones (which I did). Better signs (and even better directions on Yelp) absolutely needed. Don't get me wrong: the food was worth the hunt. In the words of Saint Arnold: I'll be back! read more

Relative for the area, this isn't bad. It's not going to blow your socks off unless your only experience with ramen is of the instant variety. Everyone else in my party got the tonkotsu ramen so I chose the miso ramen. Miso ramen comes with the thicker eggy noodles. Tonkotsu comes with the thinner floury noodles. The noodles were cooked well. I was afraid that with the time to transport the ramen to seating outside, the noodles would have been mush. The broth wasn't overly salty and had some richness. It wasn't the most flavorful broth I've had but, relatively speaking, hit the spot. We tried three sides - gyoza, karaage, and takoyaki. My issue with these is that each dish is not normally spicy. Two of my party can't eat spicy so they had to try to eat around it. The gyoza was served with premade spicy soy dipping sauce. No other option was given. The karaage was covered in spicy sauce. The takoyaki was also covered in spicy sauce instead of plain Kewpie mayo. I like spicy things but I also like to know when I'm getting something spicy. If you don't want or can't eat spicy foods, learn from my experience and ask for the gyoza to be served with a mix of soy sauce and vinegar, the karaage not covered in sauce but served with a lemon wedge and dollop of Kewpie and the takoyaki to not be covered in spicy sauce but with plain Kewpie. read more

The noodles are a perfect texture, the broth is awesome, the additives are fresh, and the broth could heal generations of family conflict. Also..THE EGG? So freaking good.
