We came here on a Sunday for lunch. I definitely recommend making reservations. The concept is self serve as in scan the QR code to order and immediately pay, get your own water and to go boxes. I do dislike that we have to tip ahead considering that we did a lot of the service ourselves. The pork and chicken skewers were my favorite. I enjoyed the sizzling sisig and ube flan. My least favorite was the crispy pata. Only because it was really bland until you dip/douse it in sauce. But it was indeed really crispy. The restaurant is definitely too small for its rush hour. Wow! I've been so eager to try this one, my sister was in town so we decided to try it, it was everything you would want for a dinner out. Super cute space, very good service and fantastic food. We did bring our own wine and they uncorked it for us. We all shared the chicken adobo, green beans, pork lumpia, eggplant coconut curry and the fried crispy pata (pork leg). The owner came over to chat for a bit and she's SO nice, we did find out you can request the curry's to be spicier if wanted. I was recommended by a friend to check this place out as it is one of few authentic filipino places in Georgia. I was not disappointed. When my date and I went, it was already packed and luckily a table opened up for us so we were sat with no wait time. The hostess was very sweet and friendly. You can either order from the QR code that leads to a website or with your server. The server we had was super helpful and friendly and helped us navigate around the menu. Our water was never empty. We ordered an appetizer, two main dishes, and a dessert. Food came out pretty quickly. The food was really great. You could definitely taste many flavors within the dishes and I was very impressed. The interior is very cute with pretty decors and comfortable chairs. I loved the ambiance and the vibe of the place where everyone seemed to be having a great time. I've been going to Kamayan intermittently since they had a food truck in Pratt-Pullman. I've seen how the owners have poured their heart and soul to their food and the community - their love shows through every single pore of the bodies. I love what they have done in order to show the best of Filipino food but at the same time, create opportunities for vegetarian and vegan consumers to also see what the hype is about. I love, love, love every single item on their menu so all of that get 5 starts. This review is based on my experience last Saturday when I took my aunt and uncle to eat there for the first time. First impression was lacking so that brought down this review to 4 stars. We arrived around 1:15 PM on a Saturday and it's not surprising that this place was packed with people waiting. TIP: Get a reservation ahead of time, they don't really honor day-of reservations. Pasta John is a staple in Kamayan, I love this man and he deserves a raise. However, I noticed that the servers all just seemed to do what Pasta John was already doing - if he was cleaning up a table, they'll come help him even though they could have been doing something else in order to get the tables ready for people waiting. There is a lot of redundancy in the responsibilities of the staff. Pasta John was able to get to us in the front to see how he could accommodate us....finally, but not without hastily cleaning tables - this type of haste led to poorly cleaned areas, I saw food particles on chairs and the floor, and I'm sure the family that was seated there also saw this. Filipinos are known for their hospitality, I wish this showed more as a first impression at Kamayan. When you're hungry, it's hard to feel welcome when you have 3-4 servers running around cleaning and serving food when this could have been done by 2 people. As someone who has worked in the industry, redundancy bothers me a lot especially when customers are being ignored when they first walk in. Our server was Robin, and I hope that he sticks around because he was really nice and very attentive, not only to our table, but to everyone around him. We ordered the green beans (delicious), palabox (amazing, great flavour), beef nilaga (yeah it's got jiggly fat and lots of veggies), and shrimp lumpia (yumyum). I remember when Filipino Cuisine was nonexistent here in Atlanta and I remember when Kamayan ATL first opened up their doors! Love this family owned restaurant. Featured as a 2023 MICHELIN GUIDE recommended restaurant in Atlanta, their food is delicious and homey, and the ambiance is colorful and lively. Service is great and your food comes to the table as soon as it's ready - meaning you shouldn't expect your entire meal to come out at one time. The green beans were also delicious with a nice zesty flavor from the lime. We got the fried pompano and the sizzling sigsig. Both were amazing! Terrible service. Didn't have a server the entire night. Our group was very excited to try the food due to all of the hype surrounding the restaurant but it didn't live up to the standards at all. Just due to the lack of service I'll never be back. We were sat no menus and no server to help us. Just a QR code to order through which you have to pay and tip at the start before you even get your meal. Both tables to the left and right of us got paper menus, greeted by a server and was helped the entire night. If we were to order through QR codes a sever should've still came by and explain how it worked. Adobo was salty. Pork belly was dry. Everything came out all at once and we felt very rushed. Not enjoyable at all very overwhelming. Our reservation was at 8 we came in at 7:45 said it's okay if we have to wait we were just early. We were sat and ordered food around 8:15. I was still eating my dessert that I had to place another order for because you can't add to an order on their QR Code. The hubs and I were treated to a unique experience by a friend. I must say, one meal is pretty pricey ($70 ish). We didn't really know what to expect (since a friend pre-paid for us), but I guess it's a traditional Filipino meal that you eat with your hands. And most of the food was placed right on the table covered with banana leaves. The staff seemed pretty busy. But if you catch one of them, they would be delighted to give you a breakdown of how the meal works and what's included on the table spread. The table was pre-laid with meat skewers, meat balls, egg rolls, eggplant curry, fried and white rice, muffin-like items, fruits, and shrimp chips. The table was preset with certain items. And throughout the meal, more food will arrive: adobe chicken, pancit, shrimp, and a dessert pastry. If you're looking to eat some delicious Filipino food in the Atlanta area look no further. Well I've never had Filipino food before. This was totally fantastic! A group of seven came here on a Friday evening. Making a reservation online was relatively easy and I highly recommend it. There is an long line of those waiting per table as walk in. This, James Beard semifinalist chef owned restaurant as a unique way of ordering food. After scanning a barcode on the individual table, you can directly order your food as well as pay your bill online. There's minimum contact with the servers. The food service overall is relatively quick. We ordered the Lumpkin, sisig, beef, skewers, shrimp, fried pork belly, coffee cake, and flan. The Lumpkins were by far my favorite and the fried pork belly my least. They do not have alcohol service but are BYOB which is perfect! Overall: we had a great dining experience. Everyone seems to happy to be there and the food is incredible. I have not tried a plate I didn't thoroughly enjoy. I came to visit when they were just a pop up and to see how much they've grown makes my heart so happy! If I move back I would definitely try the Kamayan Style Feast, which is meant to be a private event. So many delicious options to choose from, definitely bring a crew and try it all! Atlanta is home, I moved to Florida after college when Kamayan was a popup. I've been a Facebook fan from Florida ever since. I finally got to try it! Ambiance: It feels like home, that's the best way to describe it. The music is great, again it's that home vibe, it's a small piece of the Philippines here. From the chairs, to the cups, to benches, to the water station. It all felt like a family outing. Employees: I usually don't do a review on the employees but they were AMAZING! We got a recommendation to eat at Kamayan ATL from someone who told us about how great the food is. We just had to come here for dinner that day we found out about this restaurant. First of all, I don't know how we had missed seeing Kamayan ATL a lot earlier. We've eaten many times at neighboring popular restaurants also located in Asian Square. Parking near the very popular businesses can be challenging; however, free parking in the large lot can always be found, sometimes requiring customers to walk across the parking lot. The restaurant was so busy when we went on a Saturday evening, and there were a few tables that didn't have customers sitting at them. We hadn't made reservations, and that's an option that I would recommend to others. Looking at the restaurant from the outside, I expected a lot less space inside, In reality, though, there were many tables crammed into this restaurant. After sitting in the waiting area for about 5 minutes, we were seated at a table for two against one of the walls. There wasn't much space between our table and the other tables next to us. I sat with my back to the wall, and, as I squeezed past one of the tables next to us, I was given the stink eye, like I had rudely encroached into their personal space. Maybe I had, but I didn't select the table myself. Just be aware that spacing between tables can be tight. The entire time we were in the restaurant, it appeared that the air conditioner wasn't working, so it was warm and humid inside, which made our dining experience not so enjoyable. The menu is available via a QR code at the table. Not only can customers place orders using the QR code, but they can also pay their tab using the app. Customers wanting a cup of water to drink get their own (yes, water is a self serve process) from a water dispenser of ice water near the counter in front of the kitchen. R ordered Lumpia Pork (fried spring rolls), Laing (taro leaves and pork belly cooked in ginger, coconut milk and spices), Sinigang Ribs (pork ribs tamarind soup with eggplant, bokchoy and green beans), Pancit Bihon (rice noodles, chicken, veggies, lobster balls and Chinese sausage), and a bowl of extra rice. In spite of the restaurant being very busy, the food dishes came out one at a time within a reasonable amount of time, with whichever server who brought the food announcing which dish it was. All of the food was brought to us hot in temperature. The colorful pancit arrived first in a metal bowl with a handle. I honestly did not like the dryness of the dish, with noodles clumped together, and it seemed light on the amount of meat in it. I detected no Chinese sausage or lobster balls in this dish, and was disappointed. The lumpia pork were deliciously crispy and flavorful, and two chunks of pineapple and a small dipping container of sweet chili sauce came with the five pieces of lumpia. The pork ribs were meaty; however, there were only four of them, and two of them were on the smaller side. This dish to me was just ok. It was a little on the spicy side, which I didn't expect. The Laing was done well and so delicious! I highly recommend this dish and the Lumpia Pork. The bowl of extra rice was a great deal, providing a lot of rice for only $2. The service wasn't that good; no servers came to our table to see how we were doing. We needed a few things during our meal, and had to flag down an employee every time. We may be coming back for another meal, trying menu items other than the pancit and the pork ribs soup. read more
