Hubby and I ate here for dinner recently and we thought it was good but not great. I'll start with service. Our waitress was pleasant and kept our waters filled. We sat outside and were comfortable. We shared all items. We first had the BBQ pork bao buns which were not very good. The bun didn't seem fresh, and the pork was too vinegary. We then had the Wagyu sliders which were great. Next was the spicy tuna crispy rice which I really liked. Last came the Sim roll and the Coco Loco roll. The Sim roll was good, but after a couple of pieces the flavor was a little much. Came to check out Sim after a friend recommended it. We had a reservation but it was really needed; we were seated immediately. The restaurant has a very cool vibe. I started with a smoky lychee drink that had mezcal. It was pretty strong and tasted great! We ordered tuna tacos that were amazing. The mango chicken and friend rice were also wonderful. Our server recommended the Sim roll and I am so glad she did. The flavor was great with a little spicy mayo on the side. Sim Sushi & Tapas a gem located smack dab in the heart of South Miami. The restaurant is actually located right off of US1. Just make a slight left at the light and boom it's there! Now I will say finding parking on the weekends is a bit of a hassle. But not a feat I'm not willing to tackle again especially because the location is pretty nice. You find a bunch of restaurants/stores/lounges all nestled into one convenient spot. And somehow it's never too overstimulating. Anywho the restaurant was pretty cute! I definitely recommend sitting outdoors (in the evening because you guys know how Miami weather gets). It was super cute; there were lights, places to snap pictures, and they even had fans to keep customers cool. Ambiance is definitely there! Onto the food. Now I cannot for the life of me remember what one of the dishes was named (pictured), but it was fire! Light and flavorful and paired perfectly with a glass of Prosecco. Next time I'm dedicated to trying their drink menu (a little more expensive than your typical cocktails) because I'm honestly such a sucker for a handcrafted cocktail. My dish (not pictured) was alright. I had the orange chicken and fried rice. The portion size was pretty good. I liked the way the orange chicken was battered and it was pretty flavorful so no complaints there. But the fried rice was only okay to me. I think it could've been maybe a little more flavorful. It was also not hot. The dish definitely wasn't cold either, definitely edible, but not as hot as freshly made dishes typically are in a restaurant. Now the service was okay. It was a bit slow. Little bit of a language barrier there ,but our server was so kind and the restaurant staff worked so collaboratively on helping us that it really wasn't a problem. Also heads up but a lot of restaurants in that area charge an auto service/gratuity fee. This was my first time visiting SIM in South Miami-- overall I would give a solid 4/5 stars. TLDR; food is delicious, service is excellent; however, food portions are very small. I started off with the tostones rellenos and those were incredible. The plate only comes with two, but they are savory and have a delicious flavor. We also ordered the veggie dumplings which were yummy and fresh (although I think next time I would order the ones with pork, since the veggies seemed a little watery. BUT, I think that's due to the nature of them being veggie dumplings). For my main plate, I ordered the shrimp pad Thai. This was really satisfying. However, I was disappointed to see the both my plate, and my mom's play arrived with only four pieces of shrimp. Suffice to say, if you arrive on an empty stomach, this may not fully satisfy you. I loved this place! The only thing I didn't like was that the music was super loud but that is the theme of the place considering it's also a bar. We had the sunset roll which was one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had honestly. The roll was tasty at first but then I got a piece of fish from on top of sushi with a long tendon that I couldn't chew and had to spit out. I switched over to the pad Thai to get over the ick from the weird piece of fish only to find that this pad Thai is nothing like a typical pad Thai. The noodles are extremely thin and have no sauce and no flavor. I took one bite and closed the box. Unfortunately today was a big L and I paid $50 for 3 bites of sushi before I just gave up. Not sure what happened today, but I hope it was a fluke. I'd be disappointed to see that this restaurant's quality has declined so much so quickly, since my first visit was only about 6 months ago. The leech mule was refreshing and a great way to kickoff a Friday night after work. I also took some chicken and shrimp fried rice and a shrimp Bao Bun home and these were so tasty and delicious, they truly surpassed my expectations. Upon arrival, we saw the establishment a little empty; then again it had been raining the past 3 days like crazy so it was sort of understandable. We ordered 4 Sushi Rolls plus Edamame and it took them almost 45 mins for Edamame's to come out!!! Seriously! For Sushi we had: * Sim Roll - DO NOT ORDER! It was a disaster of a sushi roll with no flavor whatsoever with what was on the description of the menu. Also they need to hire someone who actually knows how to roll sushi itself! * Coquetona Roll - what they brought was decent yet again wasn't really what the menu stated. They forgot the Crab Salad. * Sunset Roll - VERY VERY VERY BLAND. No flavor whatsoever and Chef needs to learn how to make a proper Leche de Tigre sauce. If you're Colombian from the coast it tasted more like our Suero Sauce which I didn't mind then again - total failure! * Coco Loco - there was no complaint. At least something came out good! We got the strawberry and blackberry margaritas which were delicious. Subtle fruit flavor but overall still tasted good. We ordered the California roll and shrimp tempura roll. Both were there version of the roll. So California roll had just crab stick and avocado. Fresh flavor and we enjoyed them! We wanted another roll so we got the vegan roll and it was amazing! The vibe of this place is very *Miami* with the neon pink and blue lights and dimly lit tables. Very fun decor and relative nice area to hangout in South Miami in the strip next to Sunset Place. The menu pricing is competitive with the area, maybe slightly in the higher side. The food is Japanese+Latin-American fusion cuisine that is typical of South Florida, especially in Miami, such as Sushi KONG. As far as the food goes. The sushi and fried rice is definitely better than nearby places like Sushi Sake or Kampai. The ceviche is very good, but didn't really bring anything new to the table - but I guess thats why they call it the "Classic" Ceviche. Service is great. Seated right away and the waitress was very attentive throughout my entire dining experience. This wouldn't be my go to spot anytime soon in terms of food, but definitely would be a nice date night location to take someone if you want some drinks and the ambiance. The concept of this newcomer is a winner: Asian-Latin fusion. The food is impressive. The Tuna Tartare is one of the better we've had of late, with a harmonious sauce and crunchy rice chips. The Hamachi Yuzu Truffle is a balanced flavor punch. The Chicharron Bao is superb, and the croquetas and vegetable dumplings excelled. The Lomo Roll and Filet Mignon Criollo were innovative favorites, and the Octopus Nikkei also was on point. The Tostones Rellenos were delectable plantain baskets stuffed with beef, guacamole, and cotija cheese, with cilantro lime sauce. Our server Luis D, was excellent. Thus, there are all the makings of an excellent dining experience. Several issues, however, detract. The wine list is limited, and a major error is the lack of vintages for any wine (see photos of the wine list). This is further egregiously compounded by the exorbitant corkage fee of $50. If a restaurant has a poor wine list, then it's inexcusable to penalize wine lovers with such an excessive fee. There were only two desserts available on our visit, so we skipped. We're also not fans of restaurants that tack on automatic gratuities (which here is 18%, so note this when you pay). A great tip should be the result of great service. (We get the desire to pay all staff well-I was once a busboy and a waiter-but the owner should provide a living wage instead). This is a relatively new restaurant, so, hopefully, the kinks will be worked out quickly, particularly when it comes to wine and dessert. The delicious cuisine and inviting setting, meanwhile, make this an establishment worth visiting, and this is a welcome addition to the South Miami dining scene. read more

It really felt like an entire joint effort from the entire staff to make sure the experience was on point. Shoutout to our server, Carmen, for being the head of our great experience. I love it ! Came across SIM as I was driving through South Miami. Been there 3 times already. 2 for dinner. 1 for lunch. Ambiance - I love the aesthetic and decor. It's different and luxe. The bar area is a vibe and I love that. There's indoor and outdoor seating which is great. Very inviting and upbeat. There's a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights and I love that I can eat and dance in my chair at the same time. Service - each time I have been the service has been great. We visited SIM for lunch on a Saturday. It was not busy at all. We were able to sit right away. The inside is very trendy and definitely good if you are one for taking instagrammable pictures. The staff was very nice and attentive, however there weren't many others to attend to. The food was delicious. We got two tapas/appetizers: the edamame ($10.00) and the grilled octopus ($16.00). The edemame came out on a hot sizzling pan and we're seasoned nicely. The grilled octopus was one long octopus leg served on top of some grilled veggies. I was expecting more than one leg for the price, but the size was not too small. It was still very good especially with the lime they provided. For entrees, we kept it simple with the orange chicken ($18) and SIM fried rice ($14.00). You can never go wrong with orange chicken and SIM did not dissapoint. The orange chicken comes with fried rice so that was a nice plus. My fiancé ordered the fried rice alone. We both enjoyed it. It was a your simple vegetable fried rice. The prices were not too bad, but I did not expect an 18% service charge automatically added to the bill. The waiter explained that the 18% charge was for everyone serving at the restaurant and that we could tip him individually. I was surprised to see that considering it was only two people dining and you usually only see that for larger parties. Maybe because the restaurant is newer or because it's the weekend, but I hope that will not be a regular thing. The bill ended up being $82.62 with no alcohol being purchased, after the 18% service charge, and after tipping the waiter. Personally, I think that's way too much for a lunch, but we did enjoy our experience overall and may come back with friends. read more

I came here with my daughter for the first time on Tuesday. I wanted to order from RICE. My daughter wanted sushi. Unfortunately Akashi, the sushi place right next to RICE, didn't make sushi to go. So we walked a bit, knowing there were lots of other sushi places. Soon after the waitress dropped off my drink she came back to inform me that her manager had said that I couldn't eat more other food there. I understand. I used to work in the restaurant industry. I just wish I would have been told before we ordered. She was very disappointed to find that the order only had 2 pieces of nigiri. It was literally only 2 bites of sushi, as the fish pieces were very small (my daughter used to work in Sushi Maki). The menu stated that a 20% gratuity is automatically added. So, for 1 drink and 2 pieces of sushi our bill was $35! The sushi was good, and the restaurant is nicely decorated, but I can tell you that we will definitely never go back there again. Sim(means Yes in Portuguese) sushi and tapas promised to be a fusion of Japanese and Latin flavors and it didn't disappoint. The three dishes that I ordered were delicious but you can't really call them dishes, they were tapas. Still they were very flavorful. My favorite was the bang bang shrimp perfectly crunchy and tender, so full of flavor outstanding, I would go back just for this. Had the little garden salad with a citrus is soy dressing, tasty and the salmon tiradito (fresh pieces of salmon in a bed of maracuyá juice, I found the juice to be too sweet but the salmon was delicious.) my friends ordered the eel roll( minimal rice and full of flavor) lastly, the salmon roll that my friend ordered, was also equally delicious.
