We recently tried a new spot in Weston for date night. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty, which I actually appreciated since it meant our food would likely come out quickly. The hostess was friendly and welcoming. We ordered the bao buns, volcano roll, and beef ramen. The price of the food was really affordable. The volcano roll was definitely the highlight--while I'm used to it being served warm, this one was cold with imitation crab, but it still had great flavor and a nice crunch. The bao buns were also tasty. Unfortunately, the beef ramen was a letdown. It tasted more like miso soup than a flavorful, slightly spicy broth, which was disappointing. Overall, the restaurant shows a lot of potential. The decor is minimalist, though I think a more Asian-inspired design would have better matched the cuisine.

It's an intimate experience as the restaurant seating is limited. We've been coming for years and always been huge fans. The pork buns are a must try, it tastes like they are smoking the pork belly which really elevated the flavor. The cucumber salad is a refreshing bite between the buns and the ramen. Take out or dine in the food is always top tier. I will say the service can be hit or miss depending on how busy they get, but that comes with a small mom and pop shop feel. I stumbled upon this restaurant after finding it on Google and have been back multiple times already. The ramens are good, doesn't matter what you order they are all better tasting than you'd imagine. They also have small appetizers, nice beer selections, and rice bowl dishes as well. I tried their onigiri, seaweed wrapped around sushi rice and marinated contents, and it was tasty. Please try little bit of everything on their menu and let me know which one was your favorite. Shimuja is located in a plaza that offers plenty of parking spaces. Yes I would recommend this place others in a heartbeat. Yes I will be back when I am craving ramen next.

We came in for happy hour and let me tell you we were not disappointed in a single thing. Our server Mike was amazing. He guided us through the menu and helped us pick out some incredible options. The drinks were fantastic, the service was attentive, and everything came out perfectly timed. The happy hour deals are unbelievable maki rolls for $14 and appetizers for $8. You really cannot beat that for the quality. The food itself was phenomenal. If you love scallops, these were some of the best I've ever had. Every dish was beautifully presented and packed with flavor. The atmosphere is also worth mentioning as the aesthetic is beautiful, laid-back, and calm. I also like the spicy rice cakes with fish cakes (Dduckbokki) The combination with the grilled meats+ soup or noodle options are a great choice when you want variety. The barometer for us indicating that this might be a legit decent Korean restaurant was the amount of Asian diners in the restaurant and there were an overwhelming majority of them at the time we went in. So we knew it was going to be a good meal. We got our drink orders in and for entrees went with the Army Stew (Budae Jigae), bulgogi, and the Seafood tofu soup. The army stew was considered 2 portions- it was huge but my friend was able to finish it himself. He said it was delicious and lived up to his expectations after having had the army stew in Seoul and have been looking for a place that offered back home. Though not quite as good as in Seoul but very decent for SoFlo. Next up was the seafood tofu soup. The flavor was on point- soft tofu that melts in your mouth along with clams, squid, shrimp and an egg topper. I will say, they were rather skimpy on the shrimp (only 1 in the pot) and a couple clams and squid but it was delicious nonetheless. The bulgogi was seasoned well and they included a number of banchan which all tasted fresh. I asked for lettuce to wrap my bulgogi with as that's common in South Korea but here it is a $4 upcharge for lettuce. The food did hit the spot so we were all satisfied with the quality of the food and will likely return.

When I arrived, I found the place to be charming in size and decor and had a hard time deciding what to order from their dedicated vegan menu (not just a section as I thought). So many choices! My friend and I started with a seaweed salad which was delicious and a nice sized portion. Then I ordered the Vegan Sushi Pizza which was fantastic! So flavorful and filling. I also ordered a Ariana roll but I took that home intentionally and will have it for lunch tomorrow (so can't review it yet!). Ivan was a great waiter and attentive to all our questions and gave great recommendations. Will DEFINITELY be returning (soon) to try more items!

-- I would actually rate this as 3.5 stars overall. --…read more I've lived nearby for quite a while and didn't even know this place existed. It's tucked in the shopping center next to Publix and across from a school. It's in no way obvious from the street, and even the sign is obscured. The restaurant is kind of plain inside. Nothing about it stood out as being great. And they weren't too busy on a weekday at lunch time; that could be good or bad, I'm not sure. I think it's owned by a Venezuelan family, but it's definitely Japanese in its menu. And they have a whole vegan menu! That's pretty awesome. The waiter was very nice and fairly accommodating as we asked for a few things. We opted to go for the vegan menu, and because we were a party of 5, we took the 2 appetizer & 5 entrees option on the menu. The thing about it is that the entrees were all interesting and unique in some ways. They weren't regular sushi with some substitutions. They really made an effort. For the appetizers, we took the gyoza and the bao buns. The gyoza (5 in a serving) were very tasty and the bao buns were good but there were two to share with 5 people. We all got a taste but it was a little odd. It came with maple mustard, which was a great accompaniment, even with the other dishes. For the entrees, the standout was the ceviche. It was a clever use of fruits and vegetables in lime juice that certainly mimicked its fish counterpart. The "pizza" was interesting as they made use of the rice as a crispy base. The other three rolls we got had some nice textures and flavors, so we were happy with them. The reason I rounded down on the stars were two things: the atmosphere and the overall price point, which was a little bit on the high side for what you get. Otherwise, it was a good experience, and I would encourage anyone to check it out. Try the vegan menu, it's unique and pretty good.
