Ice cream is excellent and at reasonable prices. What else do you need to know? One thing-- better to go at odd hours or earlier in the day as the place is small and gets very busy, as in lines out the door and down the street. They do appreciate if you know what you want by the time you get to the front of the line just to keep it moving. I don't usually write reviews, in fact, this is my first time because of my experience at this place. The service here was rude, racist, and bigoted. Brash comments were made to specific people who were ordering however some especially stuck out. I was surprised when some customers were treated kindly while others of different backgrounds were obviously receiving different, much more rude treatment. "Well it is written two times outside lady." and" and "I don't know how they do it where YOU COME FROM but this is how we do it here" especially stuck out to me. We were so excited to eat some ice cream here on visiting Coupeville! Given the amazing reviews, we though it would be a treat. So much so that we skipped out on dessert across the street at Front Street Grill. It was not great. And we're a family of ice cream eaters. To give you an idea of our background, we love Molly Moon's Handmade Ice Cream. And we expected something great, simliar to that! This tasted no better than Chapman's out of the freezer of a local convenience store. Nothing special. Service not great either. Not very friendly staff. Skip it. There's just one ice cream joint in town and luckily it's awesome. A huge amount of ice cream (3 or 5 scoops) for next to nothing. And the flavors are rich and delicious! I opted for Huckleberry, Blackberry, and Moose Tracks (peanut butter cups and chocolate) and couldn't have been happier. Even a long-ish line moved quickly. Stopped here for a great tasting (and freshly made) waffle ice cream cone. A "small" is 3 generous scoops (3 different flavors if you do choose) for only $4. This shop is small and the only one in town and although the line was super long on a sunny Sunday afternoon, it was really worth the wait. We each had three flavors in waffle cones. In the words of our server, they were "Awesome".

I finally got Ice cream here after stopping by Coupeville multiple times. The air was permeated with the smell of fresh made waffle cones and the sun was shining so it only seemed appropriate to get ice cream. The single scope here is great in that you get three small scoops of any 3 flavors you want. I much prefer that to just getting a ton of the same stuff. The waffle cone was nicely cooked and crunchy. I noticed many places that make their own waffle cones often undercook them making them kind of limp. The ice was also good and creamy. I believed I had the caramel salt, chocolate coffee and moose tracks (or some type of tracks). Each was pretty good and traditional in regards to flavors. You won't find super exotic flavors here like at Salt and Straw or what have you. It's definitely worth stopping by if you are in Coupeville or just driving through Whidbey from Clinton to Deception pass. read more

Ok, I'm going to be honest, there is not much around Coupeville, we stopped by here today to check out the Coupeville pier after clamming on Whidbey Island. Honestly, we came to Coupeville looking for real food because after a couple of hours of back breaking digging, we needed to recharge our batteries. There is really only three restaurants in downtown Coupeville, a bakery/cafe, an uninviting tavern and kim's cafe on the pier. None of the three choices looked very appealing so we ended up at the ice cream shop. We were wondering what the fuss was about because there was a line out the door to this place when we arrived so we walked into the store to see and boy were we surprised. They make all of their waffle cones on the spot here and you can have a fancy waffle cone with sprinkles if you want as well. I just went with a single waffle cone of the Rocky Road and it was GOOD! The total cost was $3 dollars including tax, which I thought was unheard of. And to top it off a single is actually TWO scoops of ice cream. It was so big that I had to ask for a spoon because I wouldn't have been able to eat it in time before it melted away. There are probably about 20 flavors of ice cream here and they are all very fresh. This is a nice rest stop if you're spending a sunny day in Whidbey Island. read more

This is a little place that's not serving handmade organic ice cream or anything like that--but they're serving great stuff that's certainly a cut above the chain ice cream places. They're in a cheerfully weathered little place right across the street from the water. You walk up a short flight of stairs; if the weather's nice, most likely, you walk up that short flight of stairs behind a nice long line of ice cream pilgrims. There are about 24 flavors on offer from the cases inside. There's not much else--a couple types of cones, a couple tiny tables with chairs. It's all ice cream, all the time. There's just enough room for the kids to move behind the counter, and for you to get in and out around the line. The ice cream's good. It's not the organic stuff some places have, but the prices here are insanely good--$3 for 3 decent scoops in a waffle cone. The berry ice cream had plenty of explosive fruit flavor, and the pecan praline was really nice. They have a couple sorbets in the cases as well. Service is cheerful, though the kids seemed nearly exhausted when we got there. They're friendly and funny, but on busy days you may notice a slight zombified vibe. Wow, I can't say enough great things about Kapaw's, located on the quaint little main street of Coupeville. We loaded the kids into the ol' family truckster and headed out on a sunny day to see the sights - including a stop for ice cream here before we headed home to Bellingham. We each got a double scoop cone (for only $3!) and the flavor and quality were excellent. My flavors were salted caramel (yum) and strawberry cheesecake (which contained actual, HUGE chunks of cheesecake). The kids tried everything from rainbow sherbert to cookie dough...and judging by how quickly they devoured their cones they were not disappointed. Since it was such a nice day we took our cones to go and walked across the street to the idyllic Coupeville pier, watching the seagulls munch mussels to their hearts content during low tide. As we passed back by Kapaw's on our way back to the car it was hard not to stop in for another scoop! The service (owner and his son) was super friendly, too. My wife and I visited this little ice cream shop while we were in Coupeville, and we enjoyed it. We got a waffle cone with pistachio, boysenberry, and marionberry. All the flavors were tasty and the ice cream was the right consistency of creaminess. The service was nice, and the prices are very reasonable. The place is a little small, so there isn't much indoor seating. If it's not raining, it's not that big of a deal, but it can be an inconvenience if the weather is not so nice outside. Our ice cream server was sweet and let us try more than a couple options, which I appreciated. Love that even with a small you can get up to 3 flavors - I had Marionberry sorbet, mountain blueberry and chocolate mousse, all of which were delicious. The blueberry ice cream was my favorite, creamy and sweet, with strong blueberry flavor that wasn't too tart or overpowering. The chocolate mousse was very chocolately, more dark chocolate than sweet milk, and complemented the blueberry nicely. I've had three interactions with this establishment, each worse than the last. First, my fiancee and I stopped in at about 6pm on a summer evening to find the shop closed; I grant that an ice cream shop regularly closing at 5pm is their right as a business, and pardon my millennial, but "LOLz" that's ridiculous. Second, we made our way in and the attendant would not give samples; what a strange way to allow the customer to determine which product is best for them! Finally, and by far the worst; we were at the Coupeville rec center for a family event and one of our guests placed some recycling trash in their recycling, presumably by accident while trying to be helpful -- the proprietor of the shop began yelling at a completely separate person! My friend was completely caught off guard and the proprietor got rudely and aggressively up in his face even though he really had nothing to do with it. These guys just don't understand customer service, and the ice cream isn't good enough to make up for it. read more

We visited Coupeville yesterday and after lunch stopped in for ice cream at Kapaws Iskreme. Her cone was delicious and I had a fantastic espresso shake. However the best part was how I was treated by Joel at the end of the day. It turns out I left my wallet in the store which I did not realize until I was in line for the ferry at 5:20. We called, Joel answered 20 minutes after closing, and said he had my wallet but I was 30 minutes away. He offered to wait for me to return as starting Monday with no ID, wallet, etc. was going to be a bumpy start. Thanks to Joel our wonderful day did not end on a low note but with a rather pleasant reminder of what it feels like when people treat each other with kindness! read more

I love this shop. First off, you get amazing ice cream. It's great quality, and for a "single" you can still choose 3 flavors. All for $3! The waffle cones are freshly made and they pay attention to the bottom tip, really reinforce it so you don't get a soggy mess dripping down your hand before you're done eating. Back to the ice cream, it's delicious. There are maybe a dozen flavors and each on is packed with, well, flavor. I adore the hazelnut, and the rocky road. And the salted caramel. And the blackberry. And, and, and.... You also get WONDERFUL customer service. I've been coming here every time I'm in Coupeville for over ten years now and I swear each time everyone inside seems to be laughing and having a good time, workers and customers alike.
