There are also plenty of parking so it wasn't stressful. The staff were very attentive and friendly answering all the questions we have and provided us with exceptional recommendations so don't be afraid to ask. We ordered the blue Cali where I didn't expect much but the crab meat is fresh and sweet. The salmon sashimi came with 3 slices and we ended up ordering more because they were so good. Got here just in time for happy hour and this place far exceeded expectations. The stuffed inari with spicy scallop was amazing. My partner said the nigiri were great with a lot of new twists to the classics she usually gets. The hand rolls were also solid. This is our first time visiting Kappa Sushi. They have excellent lunch menu options, raining from bento boxes, bowels, noodles, sushi and sashimi plates. It's somewhat a "standard" Japanese restaurant vibe. It's clean and has a large sushi bar. The service was great. We ordered two bento boxes, chicken katsu and tofu katsu. The bento box is a great option. The vegetable tempura is great! Many different vegetables. Lightly breaded and fried perfectly. The tofu katsu was good. The chicken katsu was a bit dry. Overall, nicely priced lunch meal at Kappa Sushi. If I come back, I would consider ordering other food like the sushi combo or sashimi bowl. read more

This is an oldie but goodie place for me. Sushi is always on point and they have a great happy hour menu Sunday-Thursday 4:30-6pm. Servers are always friendly. We ordered mostly from the happy hour menu today. We ordered the spicy tuna hand roll, yuzu salmon sashimi, blackened albacore tataki with spicy garlic ponzu, spyder roll, chronic roll and rainbow roll. All very fresh! I stopped by for dinner and was seated right away. It's not a huge place, so if it's busy or you have a big group, you might have to wait a bit. They don't have a waiting area either. But the food...delicious. I started with the calamari, and it was so flavorful. My son loved his chicken teriyaki. I went with the chronic roll and it was so good! Every dish we tried was fresh and tasted good. The standout for me was the lightly breaded crunchy roll included in my lunch combo. It was perfectly crispy and shrimp-ly delicious! The fried rice with sesame seeds was also a nice accompaniment to our meal. Our waitress, Devon, was also super friendly and patient with us as and made our experience as smooth as the salmon on our nigiri! Kappa Sushi - stopped there for a light lunch. We shared an order of mixed tempura and the lunch special rolls (a combination of shrimp tempura roll and spicy tuna roll). The lunch order is served with miso soup. The food is delicious - it is consistently good. The tempura was served piping hot. A good portion of shrimp and vegetables. My first experience with pickup was absolutely delicious, which made me excited to try dining in. Unfortunately, the sit-in experience was the opposite. I waited 30 mins to be sat down and as shown in the photos, the rolls were falling apart. The rice was overly soft and watery, making it impossible for the rolls to hold their shape. Every time I tried to pick one up, it would just fall apart. The crispy rice was extremely difficult to chew. Sadly, based on this experience, I don't see myself returning. read more

I thought the service here was quite good. The host, server and who I imagine was the owner were all very helpful, friendly and welcoming, which I really appreciated. The food however was not remarkable. I had the katsu chicken and my wife had the teriyaki chicken bento boxes. Both came with salads and other sides that were decently good, but the chicken was bland and unsatisfying. The prices were on the higher end of what I'd expect to pay for a lunch special bento box and there was not much in the way of ambiance. The tables were quite close together and it felt a bit cramped. Sadly, not a place I'll hurry back to. read more

Stopped by while in the area on a whim- the place was extremely hot- seemed they don't have a/c but only a small unit that wasn't cooling down the place. We ordered two dishes and an appetizer, the main dish and appetizer came first for my partner and he had finished eating and they still had not brought my roll till I flagged someone down to check. One of the servers sat down to chat (very loudly) next to us to chit chat with her friends dining in. Was already an unpleasant temperature and sitting squished next to another table was not enjoyable. Floor was visibly very dirty- I was also served a glass that had a big chip on the lip. I have been here few times before and it's always pretty good. I like this place because they don't stuff with so much nasty imitation crab stuff to make their rolls like many other places now days. Their shrimp tempura inside of roll is big and yummy. We came here around 5'o clock on weekday and was seated right away. Also the food came out super fast! Everything was so tasty and so yummy, I got some to go too. Ambiance of the place is ok, but I honestly don't care as long as the restaurant is clean and sushi is good. House salad was ok, but cucumber salad was so refreshing and good. Tasted good with sushi too. Mahi tacos were ok. All the sushi rolls I ordered were all very yummy and good. This is a small-ish sushi restaurant in a plaza in Mira Mesa. I was impressed with their sushi here! They had classic rolls and pretty unique ones as well, with interesting ingredients and flavors. food ordered: - Miso soup: a good standard starter with tofu and seaweed - Toro sushi: 2pc, toro is my favorite fish and I enjoyed it here. It looked to be pretty fatty and definitely melt in your mouth. It also had a bit of wasabi under the fish. It was a good price ($13) - Sancho roll: this was my favorite! it had grilled shrimp, blue crab, avocado, cajun albacore, and a warm garlic ponzu jalapeño dip sauce. The sauce was perfectly citrusy and savory, it complimented the roll so well! The only thing I noticed was they slice their rolls thinner than usual, so I wish it was thicker. - Daily special - roll of the day: panko fried salmon, avocado, sriracha, top w/ tuna, halibut, garlic aioli and micro shiso (greens). another example of a unique roll! super flavorful with the aioli and I enjoyed the fried salmon. It was full on a Wednesday night around 6:15 but only had to wait less than 10 minutes. The shop is pretty small in the plaza so I would think weekends get pretty busy. Solid, standard, sushi spot located in the same complex as my local Trader Joe's and other great food stops, such as Board & Brew and Gyu-Kaku. We ordered: + Sashimi (2x kinds of salmon, octopus, and tamago) + Hand rolls (Grilled shrimp, Shrimp tempura) + Regular roll (Lemon roll) We enjoyed the sashimi and hand rolls, but did not care too much for the Lemon roll. The blue crab inside was somewhat off putting and not what I expected. Service is fast and friendly, and it wasn't too crowded, which was nice since it created a mellow vibe. We were in and out in less than 1 hour! Atmosphere of the restaurant is interesting... I like the "Kappa vibe" they're going for and that this restaurant is more laid back compared to others. Will likely return to try other rolls, although, it should be noted that prices are a little steep... We spent $70+ and I could have gotten more sushi somewhere else... However, there aren't too many sushi places in this area, so there's that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯! Overall, no complaints and looking forward to my next visit. Large cuts, crispy, slightly sweet and not to spicy/pungent. I love that they have a big menu with lots of options to please any crowd! The edamame serving was a bit small for the price compared to other places. The fried green beans were nice except too much batter in my opinion.
