The spicy tuna was exactly how it should be with that great kick at the end and the kind that just makes your mouth water. My first time visiting this location. It's a hidden local gem, rather than those crowded trendy sushi place. They even offer patio outdoor seating to enjoy your meal. First time back here in a while for dinner on a Monday night. We had a party of 4 and were seated right away inside. It was quite busy as more guests came after us and had to be seated outside. My parents frequent here a lot and have gotten to know the chef. He gave us a nice side plate of pickled cucumbers, seaweed salad, ginger and wasabi. We ordered the spicy garlic edamame, salmon and yellowtail sashimi, octopus and eel nigiri, scallop and spicy tuna handrolls, and mango and green tea mochi. We also ordered a few rounds of hot sake as well. The chef gave us all nice fatty salmon belly on our second round of sashimi, which was delicious and very appreciated. Although I no longer work in this area, we still make our way here from time to time because although we love supporting small businesses, we especially love supporting great small businesses! This has been a lunch hour spot for us for years. We always order for our appetizer the age tofu- fried perfectly, retaining the soft insides and with a tasty sauce. We then do some combination of bento and sushi, so we get the best of all worlds. They know how to cook here, and they know how to roll. Pretty solid spot. Was initially hesitant (3.8 stars at time of writing), but we were nearby and felt like having Japanese for dinner. Glad we did. The 3x3 sashimi was fresh, and cuts were generous. Paired with a side of sushi rice was Grilled mackerel bento was good, as well. Fish portion was generous, though I could have enjoyed a bit more rice & salad. The pot stickers and California rolls were tasty. Ambiance/decor could have been better, but fine for a hole-in-the-wall mom & pop sushi joint. It was a little dead when we arrived (somewhat early, around 5pm), but it picked up really fast while we were having dinner. Noticed that the host was attentive and accommodating. This used to be my favorite sushi place for YEARS. Like 10 years. Then during the pandemic the quality went down and I stopped going. I just recently started getting sushi again and the food has been pretty good, not amazing. I ordered a DoorDash pickup order and got an Alaskan roll, where the MAIN ingredient is salmon. They gave me no salmon and just gave me a roll with crab salad in it and nothing else. It was so weird and disappointing. Couldn't do anything to fix it. Door dash refunded me only $2. I'm not sure how you miss the main ingredient of salmon in an Alaskan roll. And just make a roll with crab salad. Anyway, I'm done with wonderful again. Sorry guys, work on your quality control. Sashimi combo B (4 varieties x 3 pieces each), qualities acceptable, we found no flaws. Tempuras were solid, gyoza was okay but perhaps a bit over fried & thus too crunchy for my liking. We ordered 4 rolls (caterpillar, black dragon, lemon, high crab) all consisted of the typical ingredients & creamy sauces that will satisfy most generic taste buds.
