I hate leaving negative reviews for local businesses, but I also believe customers deserve honesty and transparency. For months, I've been using Captain Jimmy's online ordering system, regularly placing large Friday night orders for my friends and me during our weekly gaming nights. Over that time, I accumulated 790 reward points through their online rewards program. Although I noticed there was never an option to redeem points during online checkout, I assumed I would be able to use them in the restaurant. Today, I visited with my wife and youngest daughter. After our entire meal was ordered, served, eaten, and we received the bill, I asked to redeem my reward points. Only then was I told that the rewards program was no longer active. I asked to speak with a manager, but instead of speaking with one, another server came over to explain the situation. I was told the rewards program had been inactive for four months. The problem is that while I was sitting at the table, I logged into my rewards account and verified that I still had 790 points. The website was still actively displaying my balance and showing that every 100 points could be redeemed for $5 off, meaning my account reflected approximately $35 in available rewards. Despite this, I was told those rewards would not be honored. If the rewards program has truly been discontinued, why is it still being advertised on the website? Why are customers still able to accumulate and view points with stated redemption values if those rewards won't actually be accepted? This wasn't about the $35. It was about trust. Businesses should stand behind the programs they advertise or clearly remove them if they're no longer valid. Continuing to display reward balances and redemption values while refusing to honor them is misleading and left me feeling deceived. I sincerely hope Captain Jimmy's either removes the inactive rewards program from its website or honors the rewards that loyal customers earned in good faith. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I left feeling disappointed and misled rather than appreciated as a repeat customer. read more

We were exhausted and starving after a long Mother's Day at Six Flags New England and looking for something better than fast food near the park. This place came up and I was surprised we'd never seen it before in all our trips. Being seafood lovers, we had to try it out. It was packed, which was understandable for Mother's Day. And very noisy! The service was exceptionally slow, which we also understood! Figured this had to be a hidden gem. My son ordered the lobster grilled cheese and loved it! The boom boom shrimp app was amazing. I had the stuffed founder and it was pretty good, but a bit dry. I should have chosen one of my go-to dishes like a lobster roll or salmon. Anyway, we've decided we definitely want to give it another try as Mother's Day is not the best way to try a restaurant for the first time. We decided to go up to Kaptain Jimmy's in Agawam mass for dinner this evening. It's Friday night. It was warm and a beautiful evening and it was not a long drive up there so it was a good opportunity to try a new place. Jimmy's has an extensive menu of seafood, burgers, steak, salads, giant shakes and all manner of things they could please almost any palate. We started with a basket of bread that was reminiscent of anadama bread served with whipped butter that was unbelievably delicious. I ordered whole belly fried clams with fries for an appetizer so that I could try the fried clams. These clams were fried perfectly in crumbs and were sweet and very good. My wife had the classic Jimmy's burger with cheese and bacon and fries, and ordered one of their shakes so that we could each take a taste and see what both were like. The burger was cooked a beautiful medium rare, served with a smoked bacon that was fantastic. The shakes are gigantic. We ordered a mocha shake that came topped with a mountain of whipped cream. Sweet, thick and creamy if it was worth every bit of the eight dollars you pay to get one. I ordered a lobster roll, but not the one they serve on the menu. I'm absolutely a lobster roll snob because I'm from Maine where we invented lobster rolls. The Jimmy's lobster roll is served with melted cheese, lettuce, and tomato - not legal anywhere I am aware of. I asked for and was served a lobster roll of cold lobster, served on a grilled bun with mayo on the side - just as God intended. The bun that this lobster roll was served on was nothing short of spectacular. I would've taken a dozen of them home. It was reminiscent of a French baguette with just the right crunch on the outside and a soft center filled with beautiful lobster meat, and just a hint of mayonnaise. Right on point. Our server was excellent and received a 20% gratuity for her service. We will definitely come back because the food is very good and there is such a tremendous selection of different things to eat that we have to come back and try something else the next time. I went to Kaptain Jimmy's to celebrate a birthday with a group of about 20 people. We had a reservation and were seated pretty quickly. I've been to this restaurant multiple times before and was never impressed, but it had been years since my last visit and I came back only for this birthday. Our waitress was attentive and took our drink orders promptly. One great thing about this place is that they were able to accommodate our large group with separate checks, which was amazing. Now onto the food, which was really the point of going out. I decided on something from the Mexican menu called flautas. Normally, flautas are simple; chicken or beef rolled in a tortilla and fried, with toppings like lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. But here, they put mashed potatoes inside. When I asked the waitress, she said that it was supposed to have mashed potatoes and chicken, but I never found any chicken. I later realized the menu did list mashed potatoes, so that was my oversight but still, I didn't enjoy it. Unfortunately, the mashed potatoes didn't agree with me at all. I was up at 3 AM with severe bathroom issues. Thankfully, the dish was taken off the bill, but it cost me a rough night attached to the bathroom. Overall: Good service and accommodations for large groups, but the food at least what I ordered was a no for me. read more

So things have declined here a bit. We had flatbread pizza and prime rib tonight. First off the pizza was ok. The prime rib meal was a "C" grade in my opinion. The cut was a bit tough and the au jus didn't soften it up. The mashed potatoes tasted like dehydrated airplane potatoes. Very fake. What they do well here is fried food. Not a great place. Prices are much too high for what you get. The beer menu does not have prices. They do this on purpose. Ask before you order. There are some $18 beers on here! Do not ever cater an event at this location. They will charge you $100 and state it's a deposit. We had a funeral luncheon today and they were not ready and stated the funeral home did not call them, but I was there when they did call the restaurant. They took an addition 1/2 to get ready, when the food arrived the pasta was cold. they took it back to the Kitchen and 25 minutes later when people were already sitting down eating the food they were served pasta came out and was mushy. We were told the $125.00 50-person tray of pasta would be taken off the bill, it wasn't, nor we credited the $100.00 deposit and were told it was a room booking fee but they can't produce this policy in writing. We have reported them to the BBB and our credit card company. Steer clear of this crappy place. read more

We have been here a number of times and my rating for those times would have probably been a 4 star. This time not so good. First, when the waitress (named on the check "M"?) approached us for drinks, someone in our group asked for separate checks and the waitress rudely said "well that doesn't tell me what drinks you want". Secondly, a request for a medium well done burger was rare and was only seen when half was placed in a container to bring. Our table area was on the dark side and I'll look closer next time. Went to Kaptin Jimmies in a Sunday afternoon. I was promptly served delicious drinks. I had the mango margarita and my sister got a "Berry Treasure" and we were both VERY happy. They offer a $24.99 - 4 course deal which includes 1 app, 1 soup or salad, 1 entree, and 1 desert. One option was prime rib for the entree option which was a great deal! To start we ordered the calamari which tasted like old oil and was like eating rubber, the cocktail shrimp was so smelly and the ceaser salad was very soggy. For our main course we ordered the scallops that were also over done and also kind of had that old seafood smell. You're in New England for Christ sakes how do you have old seafood? I had a Groupon to try this restaurant.(had great reviews all 4 to 5 stars.) So why I'm giving it such a low score.... Our waitress was nice but was clueless or maybe not confident on the menu. I asked simply questions like soup of the day and vegetable of the day she also didn't know what kind of soda they had. The first time I came here is when they first opened many years ago and it was decent today I went there we got several drinks, and they were all watered down like legit half water 10% alcohol 40% juice and the food was not edible so bad I can't even begin to explain how horrible it was. Went here with family for a early dinner after a basketball game. Great selection of beers both bottle and on tap. Cute pirate themed place with the staff dressed accordingly. Decor is cute but tired looking . We had steamers which were delicious...I had French onion soup which was perfect. We also had burgers that were all 5.99 before 5 pm with the purchase of a beverage . Heck, you can't go wrong . All the food was really good ,full of flavor and so reasonably priced . Kids menu was good & had some decent choices. Staff was outstanding & made our first visit there make us want to return. I just wish they or I had noticed the chip on the rim of my glass . The food was just not good. Got the baked cod with Brussels and mashed potatoes... cod was inedible. The breading was disgusting, it was so buttery it almost tasted like buttered popcorn, the fish was not fresh at all. Definitely would expect better from a seafood place. Deep fried Brussels were burnt yet the mashed potatoes were cold. Service was also just ok, many times we all had empty drinks and it certainly wasn't a busy evening. I dunno how this place stays around this was my second time giving them a chance and it was about the same as the first. If you want a really good meal in agawam, I'd go to the Back Room. read more

Today was my 1st visit. I live in NC and my family wanted to all gather here for dinner before I left. From walking into the door to leaving the staff was helpful and courteous. There were 12 of us and some came at different times but our server Camille was on top of it. I liked the setup of the restaurant and how easily it can accommodate a big party. We all had space to relax and eat. I hadn't tried Opa Opa beers in over 10 years and enjoyed the watermelon beer. Though I didn't like that there isn't a description of the beers to assist in choosing one. The bartender though was helpful. We ordered the PuPu Platter appetizers for the table. Truly it was an odd mix that was delicious. It gave you a little bit of everything. I didn't order a meal because I truly wanted to pick from everyone else's. I wanted to try many things. I got to enjoy the clam strips which were huge and very tastey. I enjoyed the sweet potato fries, haddock, brussel sprouts, mixed vegetables, and the fries. The portion sizes are very plentiful. Today I attended an event at Kaptain Jimmie's for Toys for Tots. There was a scheduled line up for various bands that ranged thru the afternoon and ended around 6pm with a question mark that it could go later. This event was for charity and as events go some of the bands played longer or went on later. Nothing to out of the ordinary, but when it came to the last act to go on they were cut because the staff was "too tired." The band members had been there since the beginning supporting the charity and other acts that had played before them. Mind you this was 6pm. Not 2am. After paying for over priced drinks the entire day. Waiting for slow service they ended up cutting the last band. This was for charity! I have only written two reviews and both were about this place. Overpriced, slow service, rude bartenders, and the biggest curmudgeon of owners. They do not even allow you to run a tab, having the bartenders cash you out after every order. I wish bands would stop playing here. They do not appreciate nor deserve your talent. I am embarrassed for them, it's the holiday season and they acted like the biggest scrooges even banning the people who put the event on when they were upset when they cut the last band.
