I finally got around to ordering breakfast from here last week and was definitely not disappointed. The Green Goblin should be your go to, especially if you're a fan of avocado. The combination of onions, tomatoes and the avocado give the wrap sort of a guacamole taste which I loved. I also added in bacon and hot sauce just because everything is better with them. It's a deli. So lots of meat. But I'm vegetarian. They made a great eggplant parm with peppers. The food is great. The eggplant was a little greasy, but in a good way. Like guilty food, the type Anthony Bourdain eats in a Porno theater. These guys are insanely nice. They served me, even after they were closed. Came on a long weekend and everything else was closed. Took a chance to see if it was open, success! It was open! Ordered a clam chowder and a mad Hatter totaling $12 and change. The sandwich was phenomenal with two slices of chicken with lettuce in between instead of the normal one piece of chicken on top of lettuce. The clam chowder was a touch too salty but the creaminess was spot on. Perfect for warming up on a cold day. read more

Kaptein's is a great locally owned establishment. They cook their own roastbeef and offer a wide variety of salads and sandwiches and everytbing is made the order. It is owned and operated by 3 brothers and everyone who works there is very friendly and accomodating. Parking is easy and convenient. I gave them two stars because the customer service is very good. Once you walk in you a greeted immediately and with a smile, every time. But it is down hill from there... The food is awful, no flavor!!! I have given them three solid tries, twice for breakfast and once for lunch. Breakfast: I ordered an omelet well done and got a it badly burnt on the outside and runny on the inside. No flavor and they forgot the cheese. The second time I went with a sandwich. I asked for bacon/egg/cheese/salt/pepper/ketchup ended up with a sausage/egg/cheese/salt/pepper/ketchup/mayonnaise. I was very upset both times and too far to change my order. I really wanted to like this place but I simply cannot do it. I have had 2 separate encounters with Kaptein's. My first experience with them, I ordered a turkey lettuce and tomato on a hard roll. I was appalled that they charged me the same price as a full sized grinder. The sandwich, while not terrible, was nothing special. Not a reason to hate the place, so I mistakenly gave them another shot. My second experience involved having a friend pick me up an Italian combo. I asked for them to sub bologna for the capicola. What I got can barely be called a sandwich let alone an Italian combo. First of all, the sandwich consisted of absolutely nothing but meat on bread with a tiny bit of "italian dressing" if you can even call it that. They didn't even put a single lettuce leaf on the sandwich. Am I the only one under the impression that you don't have to ask for lettuce/tomato/onion on an Italian combo?? I would think that they should at least alert the customer to the fact that the sandwich comes with NO extras whatsoever. Who orders an Italian combo with nothing but meat? Secondly, I had asked for them to sub bologna and they subbed ham instead. If they didn't have bologna they could have said something about it rather than just trying to slip it by unnoticed. Perhaps they just don't give a crap about their customers. Have I just been the unlucky one to catch them on a bad day BOTH times? All I know is I will not be giving them another try. It seems to me that they are interested in squeezing out every last dollar from their customers and nothing more. Who charges 9 dollars for a sandwich with meat and bread? I can make a better sandwich at home which is precisely what I will do rather than give Kaptein's another cent of my hard earned money. read more

Called in an order today, told 15 minutes. Went over in 15, paid, and waited 15 minutes just to see the gentleman filling orders grab my meal, which had been sitting there done the whole time, from a rack. When I told him I had been waiting 15 minutes, he replied "yeah i know." Thanks buddy but on a 30 minute lunch break I will definitely pass this dump up. *edit* Just tried the mozz sticks that I ordered, they're wildly overdone and cheese-less, sandwich was lukewarm and soggy from the wait. read more

Our household passed by this deli last weekend and never knew it was there. We looked up the menu when we got home, and decided to try it for lunch yesterday. WOW! This is the REAL DEAL and we are pumped to have them in the neighborhood. First, it's completely contemporary in its design (menu and the actual deli itself), which means it looks and feels much cleaner than some of the old stand-by's that rest on their laurels. The owner and his team were super nice and engaged all customers. Nice guys! Also, loved that the signature sandwiches brought a little something interesting to the sometimes boring world of delis (their sun-dried tomato mayo was delicious!). ALL BREADS ARE FROM AUTHUR AVENUE IN THE BRONX!!! You can't get any better than this. Enjoyed our experience so much we went back for breakfast this morning and got a classic B,E & C. Weird thing just happened...i walked into this place thinking, hey my business is just maybe a couple hundred feet from this place, maybe I'll give it a try. So I walk in and I'm looking at the sandwich board. Another guy comes in after me and gets in line behind me. The guy at the counter looks past me and says "hey mike, you know what you want?". OK, maybe he thought I was still deciding, whatever. After 4 or 5 minutes of continually being ignored another guy walks in off the street...same thing happens...now I'm thinking I must be invisible....I'm literally 3 feet directly in front of the guy taking orders...zero acknowledgement. After another dumbfounding minute I walk out...not even a word was spoken as I walked out. So I went to JK's...the same amount of time I wasted in Kapteins without even placing an order was how long it took JK's to bring me my lunch. Thing is, one of the reasons I went in there was because at my business we buy lunches for employees and visitors in for training all the time, I mean like hundreds of dollars a week. I thought why not support a local business...I really tried but Kapteins--you blew it.
