My Gf car broke down and we had AAA tow it to Kar King. We needed to have the engine rebuilt. Kar King quoted us for $1500 to rebuild an engine for a 02 Honda Civic LE. That was the best price around and they were nice the whole time. George is also helpful he made sure were taken car of. We just got it back today and it runs just fine only time will tell though. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY! In January 2015, I purchased a transmission, had it installed, and 10 months later the transmission has failed. I offered to pay for shipping the transmission at my expense, have it repaired at his expense, and shipped back but, he refused to do so. George asked me what was wrong and to check for leaks or moisture (which there was none). After explaining to him about his faulty product, and to him agreeing it was "a bad product" and "bad luck", George exclaimed to me that I was being a quote on quote "Dick" after I was explaining to him about his faulty product and hung up on me twice. George seems shady, and as a customer, I did not feel safe doing business with him. I do not recommend. He doesn't support his own product at all. read more

I recently had to have my engine rebuilt on my 1997 Mitsubishi Montero. I was referred to Kar King from a friend of a friend. The entire experience from start to finish was exceptional. I know there are many variables in pricing, so each case is different but for me, I was quoted $1000 less than other quotes and that included them coming to pick up my car with their tow truck. During the time they were working on my car they noticed a crack in the exhaust manifold. They called the dealer and got the part for me, and put it on for no extra cost, just cost of the part. And had it all done in about 2 weeks. I then need a smog and was in a bind for time (son's graduation) so they actually took it over to the smog shop and dropped it off for me, so that I could pick it up when it was more convenient and it didn't hold me up on getting my car complete. I would very much so recommend this shop to everybody I know. I will always start with Kar King when i need anything done to my car. They are not kidding when they say their customer service is 2nd to none, and you do feel ROYAL as a Kar King customer. Other things that were great: George is awesome, very communicative, easy to get a hold of him via phone or email. I love the email aspect, You really feel like they have not lost the aspect of how to treat a customer right in this age when alot of places just don't pay attention to customer service. Now the important part, the engine. My car started right up, and runs amazing! Their warranty seems comparable to other shops in the same field. All and all.....AMAZING!!! I was skeptical about dealing with Kar King at first, their Yelp rating was only 3 stars. I took a chance and purchased a 2.7 liter Toyota engine for my 2005 Toyota Tacoma. I spoke to George on the phone and the transaction was quick and easy, I even had Kar King drop the engine off to me. The engine showed up on time and looked good. It was cleaned and painted perfectly and all of the parts looked to be decent quality. It came with most of the gaskets you would expect. (It was missing a few but nothing big) Although I currently only have about 211 miles on the new engine it is running good and I feel the transaction was everything I had expected. I would recommend Kar King to my friends and plan on doing business with them again. I need a Transmission on my Jeep. :) read more

I bought a rebuilt Geo Metro engine from them. (The price was by far the best that I could find) I installed it myself. After installing it, it leaked oil (a lot of oil) yikes what went wrong?! After some searching I found the source of the leak, an odd hole drilled in the oil pump. After contacting customer support (or George, the owner I guess) he quickly realized what went wrong. It turns out it was an oil pump for the wrong year normally there would be a oil temp sensor there to fill the hole. He gave me a suggestion over the phone for a quick fix "just buy a freeze plug to fill the hole" or "we can send you the correct year oil pump right away (for free) but it will take a couple days to get there" I opted to have the oil pump sent to me I found George to be easy to deal with (professional and friendly) and quick to take action toward fixing the problem. But the fact that I had a problem that needed fixing in the first place, not so great, so I can only give 4 stars. However, if one of my other cars ever needs an engine, I will probably still buy from Kar King again. read more

Think twice about using Kar King Auto for your engine rebuild needs. I repeat, think twice. In my particular case and in other customer's opinions Mr. George Martin (Business Manager for Kar King Auto) is best described a a shady character when dealing with customer's complaints. First, my rebuilt Mazda B2000 long block engine was shipped with the engine mounted wrong side up on the wooden pallet. This resulted in the water pump housing being broken. In conversations with Mr. Martin it was agreed that upon return of the damaged water pump a credit would be issued to my credit card account for the water pump. The returned water pump was returned and signed for by Mr.Martin. Unfortunately, no such credit was posted to my account. I should have seen this as the first warning sign of what was to come. The engine long block assembly was shipped minus an oil pan, valve cover, timing cover, missing gaskets and wrong gaskets and even damaged gaskets. I made Mr. Martin aware of this, but I was given very little explanation. While installing the clutch assembly I discovered that the crankshaft pilot bearing was seized. Upon removal of the bearing I discovered that the original rusty and seized bearing had simply been left in place. With the engine now assembled and in the vehicle, the engine was started up only to see immediate oil leakage. This oil leak was coming from a threaded oil gallery plug that had been fitted without thread sealer. The cylinder head was re torqued and valve adjustment attempted. Unfortunately, the rocker arms that were fitted to the rebuilt engine were different than my OEM original rocker arms, which required that the valve clearance be checked and adjusted at the rocker arm and camshaft lobe interface and not at the valve stem end. This in itself was frustrating with a slightly increased degree of difficulty making the adjustment. Research on the internet could find no Vendor(s) selling this type of rocker arm for either the Mazda B2000 or the B2200 vehicle. I purchased and fitted a set of the correct mechanical rocker arms and returned the incorrect rocker arms back to Mr. Martin. What transpired next was a total lack of professionalism on the part of Mr. Martin. Insulting and inappropriate e-mails became the norm. Mr. Martin became hung up on the fact that he insisted that the rocker arms, which were fitted to the rebuilt engine, were the correct type. Even, when informed about statements made from a long time established Auto Machine Shop, and Import Repair Shop and even a long time established Japanese Auto Repair Shop, that this type of rocker arm was never fitted to the Mazda B2000, this could not convince him he was wrong. Further research on this subject showed that these rocker arms originated and were fitted to the Mazda 2.OL and 2.2L engine powered forklifts (Hyster and Yale). Apparently it would appear that I got a rebuilt cylinder head or maybe a complete engine rebuild from a forklift. engine. Mr. Martin was presented with this final evidence and obviously decided to remain silent. To present, he also remains silent when questioned about the original seized and rusty crankshaft pilot bearing and the oil leak from the engine. I have offered Mr. Martin every chance to settle my complaint for reimbursement. Upon his insistence a copy of all parts purchased, which amounted to $261.69, was sent to him, also a detailed list as to why these purchased parts were necessary was also provided. However, once again, Mr. Martin remains silent. In my final email to Mr. Martin I assured him that if this amount ($261.69) was not forthcoming, Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) action would be taken against him. A case number has now been assigned and I await further action from the B.A.R. I have also notified Mr. Martin that I will be taking Small Claims Court action against him if B.A.R. action is unsuccessful in resolving my complaint. Unfortunately, neither of the above seems to have any effect on this person. --------------------------------------------------------- An updated review, which includes further serious engine problems, will be posted in the near future. Suffice to say this will include further B.A.R.action and the possibility of hiring an attorney to resolve the current issue with this ongoing engine problem. read more

I would give this place 0 starts if I could. please be aware this place is trying to cover up the bad reviews on facebook. He took off the review section after seeing how many people are not satisfied with his work. I just want everyone to save their money from this place as they'll give you warranty but won't cover it and will do anything to get out of warranting what you purchased. My experience with kar king auto was horrible. Very un professional business that would do anything to cover up there mistakes. The owner George and his staff are super rude, he'll call you names and get offended if you try explaining what went wrong with your car because of their rebuilt engine. I got a rebuilt motor from these guys and it broke down within ONLY 300 miles. I got it checked out by 3 different mechanics and they all said the same thing. I have an 06 Mitsubishi evolution and they used NON turbo pistons and they are from an old Mitsubishi Eclipse. I was also told the pistons were installed backwards. Keep in mind this is not the first rebuilt motor/transmission that's had problems from this place. I believe they are un experience and very un professional lying business. I called numerous times and they refused to fix it for free even though it had only been 8 days. Free delivery. Good price. Kar King was able to drop off engine at house. Unfortunately, they are not able to pick up for a core exchange. Which is why I dropped them to 3 stars from the previous 5. So far the engine seems of good quality. I would hold off on doing business with them until you get all the information. Nowhere on their site did I see that they did not pick up the engine at your place. I was very disappointed. I would look around at other places that might have a better system of delivery and pick-up. For me driving to Ontario is another expense that they do not put on top of the engine. read more

This is a good shop. My husband had a hose blow on his madza causing all of the oil to leak onto the 15 fwy, which of course Killed the motor. . Called George, got a price and even offered free towing to his shop. They came, picked it up by 8:30 am the next day. He even cut us a deal on putting on a new clutch in while the motor was out. He said we should have it back in just over a week. I think he had it back within four days!!! It ran grate! About a week later we head a noise coming from the motor area and called George to describe the problem. He agreed that it sounded like the motor, and for us to bring it back. This time he had the car for 3 days, searching for the knocking nosise. When he called back he said it was not the motor and for us to come down and he would show us. It turns out it was the AC compressor going out, which we would late discover was related to the oil slug that occurred from when the motor originally blew. He had it for 3 days because he was ready to have his guys tear it back down to fix it when they found the AC compressor issues. He didn't even charge us for the diagnosis. 30k miles later, she still purrs like a kitten. He is an honest business man that is willing to take care of his customers. Thanks George! ! read more

Kar King was honest and reliable. I was stuck with a possible blown transmission in Arizona to weeks ago. I towed the car home to Temecula where a good mechanic said that the transmission was bad. As I researched purchasing a new one, Oreily Auto Parts referred me to Kar King for the rebuild. The cost was great and I like how Jorge handled my call. I towed the car to Kar King where Jorge called me and said that I did not need a new transmission. I am a single Mother and if you can imagine I was so stoked to hear this news. The car needed a transmission cooler. A couple hundred bucks compared to almost 2 thousand, I hung up the phone thinking how honest Jorge was. I would have never known the difference but he said that the care for my car that he suggested was what he would do if it was his car. This company is honest and reliable. I picked up the car today. Kar king is your worst option please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere to buy a motor or transmission, I'm a shop owner and I have been living a nightmare dealing with these guys, I installed a motor in a 1987 Toyota truck that they built,when I started it I heard a knock so the owner of the truck took it to Kmart king to get it checked out, Kar kingsaidthemotor was no good so they replaced the motor, that's when we found out about there crummy warranty policy " they make the customer pay their labor to replace their crappy motor, then 2 months later the motor started knocking again so they put another motor in it, now 4 months later the rear main seal is leaking and my customer was told "sorry we don't cover oil leaks and oh sorry your out of warranty". Be very careful dealing with this shop They use the cheapest parts they can get there hands on,and hire the cheapest labor they can find. Their Warranty will not cover any labor, so they have little incentive to do a good job cause the warranty is running out no matter how many problems u have. Went in to have my transmission replace on my 99 Sienna. A week later I picked the van. The van still had issue. It only shifted gear at high rpm when the engine is cold. I called them up and they told me to drive awhile. A month later, the issued wasn't clear. They told me to drive vehicle to them for inspection a couple of days. I had to rent a car for several days. I picked up the car a couple of days later. The problem was fixed. But a couple months later, I found out that they fixed the problem by depleting the transmission fluid so it could run hot sooner. I refilled the transmission fluid to a proper level and now the problem reappear. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS. THEY ARE DISHONEST. read more

I shopped around for a replacement motor for my 03 Optima and found Kar King. I got a price from "George" and paid for the engine via a credit card. The engine was supposed to be shipped within 2 days. Two WEEKS later, the engine arrived at my mechanics shop. A couple days later, I get a call saying there's water pouring out of the engine around the water pump. I told the shop to get a new one where I needed the car asap. I cantact "George" at Kar King, he says, "Ship the pump back and I'll credit you for it". I do this, and after a week goes by (I tracked the part, 3 days) I get a partial credit. When I question it, he tells me they don't pay for labor, his part needed replacing which took 3 hours at the shop. I'm supposed to pay to have a defective part replaced in a guaranteed engine?? Before having a rebuilt engine put in my Nissan I search online looking for the best price and a reputable mechanic. There are good as well as bad reviews on all businesses but I took my chances with Kar King. George was really nice and charged me $2200 for motor and labor which was good for my pockets. After picking up my car I noticed it was running as smooth after calling and talking to George I was told the car needed motor mounts. I was told any good mechanic would tell me this while having the motor out of the car since its a tedious job to replace them. George explained because the car was 10yrs old I could get by without them. its been almost 2yrs since my motor has been replaced. I decided to have the mounts put on, so I called and asked George which mounts were needed, after taking my car in and having him to look at it he tells me all 4 needed replacing which is better to do if u have to replace any of them. I asked how much would he charge me for the labor just to put on the mounts, he gave me a price and then said some mounts from other companies aren't good and suggested I purchase mounts form a reputable friend. Due to my car being 10ys old I wanted to go the least expensive route as possible being had George mention to me the car needed mounts while he was putting in my rebuilt engine this would have saved me time and money. After confirming I would be bringing in my car on that Monday he contacts me on the prior Thur to let me know he ordered mounts from his friend in which I did not authorize him to do. I told him I had my own mounts and he insist on looking at the mounts I purchased. Because I didn't feel good about this I decided to go to another mechanic. After lifting the engine and getting to the mounts the mechanic questions why was I replacing the mounts, I explained to him that George had looked an the car and told me that I needed all 4 mounts replaced..in fact my engine had all 4 mounts and all were in good condition.. so basically I paid for parts and labor for mounts that wasn't need!!! Thanks George I thought u were an Honest Mechanic...Turned out to be Wrong!!! I would have given him$200- $400 for unnecessary work on my car depending had I used his parts or not read more
