My zumba students from 24 Hour Fitness put together a karaoke and dinner outing and invited me along. We headed to Shout Karaoke in Astoria, and anyone who knows me knows I have always had a soft spot for karaoke. For many years it was a regular part of my life, and these days I keep it going through the Smule karaoke app. This past Saturday reminded me just how much fun it is to do with a group of friends. We had a great time, plenty of laughs, and a really enjoyable night overall. Shout Karaoke is located on Steinway Street and is easy to get to on the R line. The commute was quick and straightforward. Up front there is a bar area where you can sing and socialize, which is pretty standard for karaoke spots. They also offer smaller and larger private rooms with a set rate per person per hour. For the room we booked, the rate before 8pm was $5 per person per hour with a minimum of 15 people, and after 8pm it increases to $9 per person per hour. The pricing feels very reasonable for what you get. I did not drink alcohol so I cannot speak to liquor prices, but ginger ale ran about $3 each, which is fair for a bar setting. The music selection is well organized with both book and tablet options for browsing, and the catalog is extensive in both English and Spanish. The space was clean, comfortable, and the staff was genuinely friendly throughout the night. I will absolutely be back to Shout Karaoke. It is a great find in the Queens area and well worth checking out. read more

When we got to the private room there is button to ask for assistance. There is a tablet to select songs and a book to look up songs as well. The mics sometimes had interference. This bar is a good bar if you're alone or in a group. There are individual rooms which groups can rent out. But there is also a front area next to the bar where you can sing karaoke. Unsure how much a room is but the front area is $2 a song. The display shows the next 5 songs so you will know when your time is coming. However, they did skip two of my songs. I LOVE me some karaoke and when I found out Astoria had some karaoke vibes going on, I couldn't help but check it out! I had seen this place directly by the R train one day and I told myself I would! Today was finally that day. It was an overall chill vibe and the people who worked there for that aesthetic. You have the option of singing out loud to a crowd of people OR you can rent a private room. Now here's what to KOTE about the private room--the karaoke rooms themselves are not very insulated to block out the sound from outside so you will have the music from outside bleed through a little. However, that in no way stops the fun! What I loved about this karaoke set up was the fact that they had their own karaoke, but you could also YouTube your own karaoke songs from YouTube! Legit, the world was your oyster in there and if a karaoke exists out there for it you can sing it. Ultimately, it was a cool spot and I'd come back again. We had a great experience hosting my daughter's 9th birthday party at Karaoke Shout. The price is very reasonable during the daytime on the weekends -- $6 per person per hour -- and the staff was super accommodating and easy to work with. Sebastian and Mayckol were both so helpful and friendly! We brought our own pizza and snacks and just paid for pitchers of soda for the kids. The largest room very easily accommodated our group of 20 kids. We were able to get in to set up a little before our start time, and then had pizza delivered right to the venue. They have a two hour happy hour everyday so it's perfect for birthday parties. There are multiple rooms but alas the one we were in was subpar at best. We were a group of 8, 6 of us being boys over 6 feet and therefore huge and yet we were crammed into this tiny, unfurnished little room despite every other room in the place being open (we arrived ten minutes after they opened for the day on a weekend). Id been here before for another birthday party and the room we'd been in then had been spacious and had neon flashing lights. The one we got was legit a closet by comparison. There was barely enough space for us all to sit and only three hangers to put jackets up. As soon as you get into the room you're being timed so I didn't even bother asking to change rooms because it would've eaten into our hours. I had to literally ask if there was a timer, which there wasn't, and only then were we told what time was on the clock for us. I get that these guys make money by the hour but a little courtesy to let guests know WHEN the timer starts would be nice. The music list is okay. There is a pairing option where you can play some other music beyond what's on the iPad provided. But considering this is literally a karaoke place you would think the selection would be more extensive. Overall though considering the cost it's worth it. I had such a fun night at Karaoke Shout in Astoria. When you walk in they have a bar and a decent size space to sing karaoke with the entire bar. However, my friends and I got a private room so we can sing songs with just our group. There are several rooms varying in sizes and each room has a television displaying the lyrics, two microphones, a call button and a tablet to cue up your songs. You can also use your phone to cue up the songs if you'd like. The call button was nice too because if we needed more drinks or anything we pressed the button and somebody was there within minutes to get us what we wanted. read more

Stumbled upon this place with some friends after trying to find a place for some drinks on New Year's Day. It was a Sunday evening so alot of places were closed or closing early but bot this place! I can see the energy from outside so I had to go in. The general karaoke area wasn't very spacious but I was able to get a spot ar the bar to order a drink. I ordered the fishbowl and that was pretty good. I cased the joint for a little to see what the talent was like and they was doing the damn thing in there! There were little song requests cards around for ppl to put their requests in and there where a nice amount of songbooks to pick your songs from. The request card said on Sundays it's $1 per song request so I slipped the card and dollar to the bartender and patiently waited. The gentleman working the bar was by himself so sometimes it would take a while to get a drink but what can you do but be patient. He was putting the songs in and taking drink orders and holding it down, kudos to that man. On the karaoke screen it shows the next 3 ppl at the bottom so I knew when my song was coming up. When my time came I killed it! I performed Nelly's "Hot in Here" because it was in fact hot in there. The crowd loved it. Later on I performed NSync's "Bye Bye Bye" because why not lol. Futher in the spot there were private rooms of different sizes for those who wanted to do private karoake. I'm unsure how that works or of you have to pay for that but I thought that was cool. I've been to a lot of karaoke bars, but Karaoke Shout is something special. Sometimes I don't feel like trekking into the city, so I head here, and it's always a blast. The bartenders are super friendly and laid-back. The crowd is always in a great mood, and it's easy to meet people from all walks of life, all bonding over a love of singing. The atmosphere is full of good vibes and plenty of vodka--sing well, and they might just make your drinks a little stronger! The prices are great, especially for the rooms, which are much cheaper than in the city. For the best experience, book Room 11 for a big party or Room 10 for a smaller group. No food on-site, but there are amazing empanadas across the street and a decent deli next door. You can bring your own food in, which is a nice touch. If you become a regular, definitely check out Tuesdays--that's when the coolest crowd hangs out. It's the perfect amount of people, so you'll definitely get a chance to sing and meet some fun locals who are really engaged with the Astoria community. 5 and a half stars. When we first walked in we asked if we could get a room and were told by the bartender that the hostess could help us w that. When the (a stud) hostess finally showed up from the back after about ten minutes of just standing around she had her headphones on looked at us w such disgust as if she didn't want to help us at all. After her not explaining or giving us the minimal amount of effort in her job. We were finally sat in our room where again the hostess didn't show us how to use the machine or how Que songs so we just eventually figured it out ourselves. After a few songs we tried to order drinks through the iPad they provide you, turns out the service button for the room and ordering drinks through the iPad doesn't work. All in all this is place is horrible. Staff sucks nd is rude to u. I don't understand how someone can staff a place w some of the most uninterested people for a job that's pretty easy to do. But the staff act like there are the ones we come to see and we have to wait hand and foot on them. Could just tell by looking at some of the staff especially the hostess that this is probably the furthest they will go in life. Don't go here if u wanna do karaoke. Go Flushing Chinatown. Our group of 12 had an awesome night here! We rented their (I think largest) private room. The room was awesome- two large pieces of modern art adorn each side- painted on the walls. They also have a digital camera connected to an iPad on the wall solely for GIF photos taken on one side of the room. This was such a fun part of the night that everyone got into. Also makes for some really awesome candid photos. It looks like they recently updated this room and it really looks so modern. There's a coat rack area/short hallway when you immediately enter the room which was such a thoughtful touch- the coats were all out of the way the entire night. At the front of the room, there's a small stage and mic stand- perfect for living out a rock star fantasy. There's mood lighting, and you're able to control the volume. Song selections can be made via an iPad that floats around the room- or the stationary iPad on the wall at the front. They also provide a song book. On the note of song selections- I also really appreciated that we were able to re-arrange when songs came up, or choose a song to appear next- through their system. And there's two tv screens at each end of the room which was also helpful in the sense that you didn't always have your back to everyone. Song selection was pretty good, and all of the staff we encountered was super friendly. The drinks were fun (hello fishbowl!) and made well. My two Cosmos were on point. And as an added bonus- outside food is allowed- and Mama's Empanda's is right across the street! Just make sure to get your food beforehand and not waste precious karaoke time. This place has cleaned up alot and the people are friendly. The rooms are small but enough to fit 6 to ten people. They serve alcohol, not food but you are allowed to bring it from outside so that's nice. There are lots of options around. The sound system works well and it is easy to let loose with your friends because of the private rooms. The rooms have an echo so you really hear yourself. Who would have thought there'd be a karaoke place in Astoria? I stopped by with three of my girlfriends on a Saturday evening. Summary below. Pros: -clean private rooms -decent song selections -private rooms are small and cozy -very strong drinks -clean bathroom -input songs via iPad -private rooms have their own thermostat Cons: -one cute female manages all the rooms, the whole bar and the check ins -she was very busy and everything takes awhile -you must retrieve the microphones and iPad upon checkout. Rented a room for our group of four and time seemed to get away from us! Our room was small but enough to still dance and make fools of ourselves. Rooms equipped with their own sound system, AC, and alert system to get more beers or help delivered to the room. We went during the day so the rate was cheap! $6/pp an hour then broken down in 15 min increments. We ended up staying there for almost 3 hours. That's how fun it was! Had a fun experience in Karaoke Shout when I went there with my friends. If you go there in the weekends, the bar is usually crowded and there's a public karaoke you can sing. Many people were singing when we got there and that made the atmosphere even better. We decided to take a private room instead. It was around 11 dollars with taxes per person every hour. I honestly felt like the price is a bit on the higher side but we still went. The private room is dark with lights coming out everywhere. It was a small room but for just 5 people, it was perfect. When you order drinks they bring them pretty fast. They had great selection of songs. They also had international songs and we did try Hindi songs as well as english songs. I've seen few artists that only had 1-2 songs but other than that most artists had their popular songs. U queue/change songs with an iPad and u can also choose your pitch from it as well. Overall i think it was a very fun experience. Its very crowded in the weekends and you can do lots of things when you're there to pass your time. read more

I came here to sing with my friend after she told me she's been here years ago. The open bar is not that big but could accommodate a good party of 10-15 maybe. We ordered a room and got the very first room. It's a small room for two of us. I wanted to stay outside but my friend wanted a room and told me that she couldn't sing in front of people. Understood. She treated me for this karaoke session, so I didn't know the exact price but she said "it's cheap!" After all the singing and exiting the room we saw so many people at the bar outside the room. The PA system was quite good, no problems there. Unfortunately this place doesn't offer food but good thing we already ate. I am not usually the type of person to leave a bad review for a business, no matter how poor the circumstances. However, my experience with Karaoke Shout was down right terrible. I was excited to book with them after reading the wonderful reviews, after all. After my initial communication with them via phone, I was seemingly rushed off the line and informed to fill out the form on their website in order to request a reservation. I was also instructed that future contact should be via email. I did this immediately after, providing all required information as well as my credit card number etc. I did not receive a response until after midnight. At this point, I was offered a room within the available timeframes that they had. I responded back that same morning, still hoping to book something in such short notice all while settling for a time slot that I did not originally anticipate. I did not receive another response back via email until 12 hours later. At this point I'm emailing multiple times in order to secure a room, knowing that they do in fact fill up quickly. However, it seems that all responses are given after 5 PM when the business opens. Due to their negligence, I was not able to book a room at all within a reasonable time. I was only offered a room after midnight. Since email was obviously not the best form of communication for them, I decided to call. I wanted an explanation as to why a room was offered to me, then in less than 24 hours I'm being told that there is no availability. All the while, they have my credit card information and I followed all procedures in order to secure a room. If all parties who are requesting to book a room are required to fill out the form on their website, then it makes absolutely no sense how anyone can successfully book with them in a timely manner. I was ultimately penalized for their incompetence. Unfortunately, I was offered no viable solutions or even an apology over the phone. Their only solution to me was "there are karaoke places in the city." read more

Ok - let's get this straight. I suck at singing. I was not born to sing. Yet, somehow I end up in karaoke joints when pulled in by friends. Now, at least Amy, Lara, and Andrea can sing their asses off. Garrett, Evan, and I? Not so much. But we try. Badly. Still, this place was kind of nice. Lots of rooms, bar out front with a community karaoke screen, good sound and video system in each room, books with tons of songs to choose from, and friendly staff. I also noticed how clean this place was. I even sang an old Van Halen song - Beautiful Girls - with the community group by the bar when we were waiting to settle the bill. Badly. It's how I roll. I'm a Karaoke pro. I've been to quite a few lounges, bars and venues and have been wanting to visiting Karaoke Shout for a few years now. The poor reviews kept me away. I came here for today's Yelp UYE after party and we kicked things off pretty quickly here. Staff was nice and service was good. The first thing that came to mind was that this place needs a renovation. The rooms are spacious but crummy. Terrible furniture. This is also not a B.Y.O.B. However the beer pitchers we had on tap, were pretty good. One thing that I did appreciate was that the IPad system was simple to use and their system had quality sound. There were no corny background vocals or music. For what it's worth our party of (15?) had a blast and rocked out to updated song selections and without technical issues. Very small rooms. Not very well ventilated. It gets hot in any room very quickly. We were given a really small room for 6 people. The equipment is updated and service is good, though. Had a great time with a huge group. This place is a 21 and over since there's a bar here. They do take credit cards and they do serve food here. My first check-in, i got a free shot. I thought that was awesome. I ended up giving that to the b'day girl!! I gave this place a 3 because, even though the place was dark-lit, i can still tell how simple and dingy the place looked. The rooms for smaller groups are REALLY small, and the rooms get really hot fast. It's hard to find parking, and they do take credit cards. I do, still, recommend this place. read more

This place is a divey version of a karoke bar. We came here after a few drinks from another bar because our friend led us to believe there was a special rate. It was supposed to be $5 dollars per person if you rented a karoke room before 8 oclock. Well, $184 dollars later, we found out it was not so cheap. Seeing how drunk we were, they also brought out free beers which made us stay longer in the room. So word of advice, just do the karoke in the public bar area if you would like to save some money. However, if you are in the area and you are very desperate to do some karoke, it is an OK place to go. Judging from their pictures on yelp, I thought the rooms would be huge, but they're tiny. Maybe they just gave us a normal room. Almost like a sauna room meant for 4. At first, I thought how cool it would be to have an iTouch to chose songs from, but the "wi-fi" kept going off and it was slow, so I'd rather use the touch screen monitor and that fat remote, even though some of the songs in the books are ancient old. From Bruce Springsteen to Britney to Gaga, we sang our hearts and lungs out. The prices, I wouldn't say they were cheap. 20 cents a minute? Hmm...
