While my daughter and I were flying to Charlotte, we stopped at Kardea Southern Kitchen inside the Charleston airport for a bite before our flight, and I was pleasantly surprised! I started with an espresso martini it was smooth and so good. I also had the fried green tomatoes, and they were on point! Perfectly crunchy with great texture, and the tomatoes weren't soggy at all. My daughter had the chicken tenders and fries, and those were really good too. The deviled eggs were also good. The bacon was the perfect hint of salt. The staff was friendly, the décor was vibrant and welcoming, and they even packed up our leftovers so we could take them with us. We finished them when we landed at our next stop and they were still good! It's not often I write a five-star review for an airport restaurant but it would be remiss of me not to write one for Kardea Brown's Southern Kitchen! I had time before my flight to have a nice sit down meal. The restaurant was busy but there were a few tables open. I was greeted and promptly seated. I ended up ordering the grilled pork chops. And my gosh...after the first bite, I knew I ordered correctly. The flavors that burst on my tastebuds surprised me. Seriously, this was one of the best pork chops I've *ever* had. The rice and collard greens were also incredbily good. I thanked the waitress on more than one occasion for the recommendation (I was torn between the pork chops and the fried green tomato BLT). I ended up eating EVERYTHING on the plate. Everything. The staff was very friendly and service was quick. I was worried about how long it would take but I was able to order, eat, and pay with enough time before boarding began. Very impressive airport food place! Had the fish and grits with a side of collared greens. All were fantastic! The catfish was light and moist with tasty breading. The grits were smooth and creamy and the collared greens super tasty. The prices were even reasonable for airport fare. $20 for the fish and grits. If there is a nit, would have liked more collared greens for the $5. My waitress (Shanequa) was excellent and attentive with refills on my iced tea. Overall a great place for a good and reasonably priced meal before leaving town. Oh, one more minor nit, would be nice to have electrical outlets for charging by the tables. Maybe there are for some of the tables but mine didn't have one. read more

Back on the move ... Newark is the destination so the wife and I decided to grab breakfast. We were able to get seated immediately. I decided to get the Break The Fast sandwich and my choice of protein as the Salmon Croquet .. with the cheddar cheese. The playlist was dope while we waited also... creating a nice chill vibe. The decor is very dope Now for the food the sandwich wasn't bad. The bread could have been buttered and actually toasted instead of just the edges. The salmon wasn't bad lacked a bit of seasoning so if that's your thing you will need to add salt. Also the aioli sauce was lite to the point I couldn't taste it over the arugula.However personally I wouldn't get a salmon croquet on a sandwich again .. it's not for me. But the star of the show was potatoes/hash browns ... hot and fresh. This is my 2nd time here 1st time for breakfast. The service was better the first time seems like our waitress was absent for a short bit and didn't do the little things like to check and see if we needed more water. Talk about great airport food -- wow. This was the perfect send-off from Charleston. I ordered the fish and grits, and let me tell you: that fish came out fresh from the fryer and dangerously hot in the best possible way. You know that reflex where you're doing the "ash, ash, ash" breathing routine, rolling the lava-hot bite around your mouth with your tongue while trying not to scorch the roof of your mouth... but you keep eating anyway because it's just that good? Exactly that. Worth every dramatic exhale. The fish itself was fantastic -- fresh, moist, and coated in a beautifully seasoned cornmeal crust with the perfect crunch. Everything tasted freshly made and handled with care. The grits were thick, rich, and hearty enough that a fork worked just fine -- no spoon necessary. This was a comforting, satisfying meal and honestly one of the best airport meals I've had in a long time. My only note is regarding the hostess station. There was a very long line throughout my visit, and the hostess frequently had to step away to clear and reset tables. This created noticeable delays and left guests waiting longer than necessary. It would greatly improve the flow and overall guest experience if bussing and table resetting were handled by separate staff members, allowing the hostess to remain focused on greeting and seating guests. read more

A great restaurant located past security. Love the decorations, including the basket light fixtures. They had several starters that I was interested in, but went with the pimento cheese balls with a pepper jelly. My husband says it was the best fish sandwich he's ever had. Such a cute spot at the airport restaurant. Staff super friendly. Food was good but all options were not. Also kinda pricey for lunch. I had the fried fush plate with slaw and Gullah caviar. The fish was great. The slaw was super unflavored and no mayo. The Gullah caviar was (unbeknownst to me) a cold salad but still unseasoned. The greens were spicy but I didn't think it was good. After a long day in an airports, maybe three I finally found myself in Charleston, South Carolina with a seven hour delay and found this delightful place called Cordia Brown's southern kitchen so I came in. I asked for a quiet table in the back and I would be here a while and a wonderful server seated his name was Xavier and he took care of everything. The menu was really and I got a smash burger and it was great. I've had a glass of wine and I'm here for another five hours and they're being so kind to me. I highly recommend this place. Stopped by twice, pork chop plate was my outbound flight, fush and grits was my inbound flight. When I flew back in, I had more time to actually sit and enjoy without rushing. Both meals were absolutely delicious. During the afternoon flights, when the airport was more busier, the place was packed. But during the morning flights, things were more calm. But don't take my word for it because I'm assuming traffic can pick up or slow down based on what's happening in the airport that day. This place alone is worth arranging your flight schedule so that you get a moment to taste and savor the South. The service was friendly, fast because they know you have a plane to catch, and it has a comfortable vibe. I love that the space was open so that I could sit and people watch lol! This is good food, not just good airport food, and the prices are pretty much comparable to downtown Charleston prices, so not outrageous. (My bill here is directly comparable to fleet landing). I recently visited here before my flight home. We were greeted and seated promptly. The ambiance was quite pleasant. Lively but not loud. The service was excellent! The food was very good. We had the fried green tomatoes, the cheeseburger with fries and the kale caesar salad with grilled shrimp.The food came quickly and our server was very attentive. Excellent service and attn from the staff and front desk greeter. I ordered light; just a southern slaw, smoked collard greens, and a "half sweet" iced tea. I love the vibe soft jazz music, beautiful and bright interior. The man next to me was not happy with his food and said he didn't like the brioche bun on a chicken sandwich. The place was hopping on a Sunday evening 620 pm. Busy but not slammed. My food was delivered super quick, within 5 minutes of ordering. Granted, I ordered sides and an iced tea yet I appreciated the urgency. Unfortunately, the slaw was super dry (see photos), the "half sweet" tea was super sweet yet the greens were da bomb! As nice and quick as the waitress was initially, she didn't come back to check on me so that was a disappointment. I truly wanted to leave five stars yet four is generous. The collard greens are yummy, great flavor! I think it's a great stop for an airport and I am glad that Kardea Brown gets an opportunity to showcase her wares. My wife had the chicken strips and it was the best strips she has ever had. Tender with light breading leading to a mouth full of hot steamy flavor! If you are flying out of Charleston Terminal B, stop by and have one last quality southern meal before you head home. Got to CHS early and needed dinner, so grabbed a seat at the bar as a solo diner. I was able to order pretty quickly which was good as the restaurant was busy and I wasn't sure how long the food would take, based on reviews here. It wasn't super fast but also not inordinately slow, but I would definitely recommend you give yourself at least an hour to eat here. I ordered the pimento cheese-grit balls and a side of collards. Both were delicious and piping hot from the kitchen. The combination was definitely enough for a dinner. I also ordered a draft beer. Beware that the default beer is a large, which is probably 24 ounces and cost $13.50-not cheap! Service was perfunctory from the bartender--she appeared to have AirPods in so I couldn't tell whether she was just talking to herself or someone else the whole time I was there. In any case, I got served in a timely fashion. Net is that the food is very good and service is just okay, but you can eat well at CHS. read more

I have family in Charleston so am frequently flying in and out of this airport. On my latest trip, security went pretty quickly so I decided to have some breakfast. This is a new addition to the airport, and I bet lunch would be good. This was just okay. The menu had the biscuit coming with gravy but it turned out to be just a dry biscuit and a small piece of fried chicken with the ubiquitous airport square fried hash browns. The server said the menu was incorrect in stating in came with gravy but she offered to bring some out for me to have with the biscuit. That definitely helped. The chicken was good and the gravy was tasty. The staff here was super friendly and made it a better experience. If I happen to travel at a different time in August when I'm back in the area, I'll stop in and try lunch. read more

So happy to have stumbled upon this spot in the Charleston Airport! The atmosphere caught my eye immediately and even though we didn't have a lot of time before boarding, I had to check it out! It was literally 4:30am and we were their first customers! We ordered salmon croquettes, eggs, grits. I sooo wish I could be there for lunch and dinner. Food was actually pretty good and well priced for airport food, they also let us sit down with our Starbucks drinks which was appreciated and also the only reason this isn't a 1 star review. My burger was also supposed to have grilled onions on it which it did not(see photos attached). Marco F was our server and his service was extremely bad. Multiple people sat down after us and received their food before us as well as had their orders taken before us. I watched our food sit in the window for 10-15 minutes before it was brought to us. He also looked directly at me and said something under his breath while walking by, I did not hear exactly what he said but it was extremely rude nonetheless. I still left a tip to maybe teach him a lesson on kindness and not giving younger people poor service just because you think they won't tip; WHICH HE DID NOT DESERVE! read more

Kardea's replaced the prior restaurant, the Jack Nicklaus Grill, this year opening with different interior finishes - brighter and cheerier - and a new menu while keeping much of the same table layout and seat density. Their southern themed menu has fried green tomatoes, collared greens, red rice, grits, as well as chicken fingers, burgers, and salads. The food is solid with substantial portions and everything comes out nice and hot if it is a hot dish that is. They have a full bar. Their pours are generous and they will always offer double shots (for an up-charge of course). Very alcohol forward I'd caution on that route based on how you can hold your alcohol. Keep mindful of the time. If you only have an hour before boarding you may want to take the food to-go because Kardea's is not fast. The last two times I've been here there is one waiter or waitress on the entire floor. Unsurprisingly this individual is brief, to the point, exhausted and frustrated. Give them grace, they need it! But typically it has taken between 40 to 55 minutes after ordering for anything hot from the kitchen whereas salads seem to be within the 30 minute mark. It might be faster on slower days, but I haven't been there yet where it wasn't packed. read more

Well that was a delight! I love supporting local, and love me some southern cookin'! Located in the Charleston airport, this is Ms. Brown's first location but I'm hoping she opens another! Restaurant was busy but the staff sat us quickly and the food was so flavorful. I can tell my son approved because the Mac n cheese was gone in about 5 seconds, I got one fork bite! The collards were some of the best I have had with plentiful bits of meat to flavor. The hand battered chicken tenders were so juicy I couldn't help but try to get an extra bite but my son devoured them before I could even get a picture. He did let me enjoy about 10 French fries.
