Rarely do I review in hotel restaurants as they are very predictable and just bar food on light steroids. After a local swim I did not want to done some attire and venture out in the rain and t-storms. For the record I am what they now call a Lifetime Titanium Elite with Bonvoy/Marriott/SPG. (36 years and approaching 2,000 stays ( frown) - just celrated my 29th wedding anniversary - so that is great!) My days at Marriott's in-house restaurants like Champions or Don Shula or etc are long in the past as is my high cholesterol, BP, and blood sugar and 40 extra pounds. So I checked the menu. (insert shocked face here!!) Darted up to my room and returned. Seated promptly, greeted quickly at my table, bevarge ordered in under a minute, server in parallel chatting like old friends in minutes. Not packed or super busy on a Tuesday night in the rain, but the bar was packed and other tables appeared to be fully serviced. (some other comments and notes here on Yelp likely had an impact I hope) Their "new" menu had multiple VEGetarian, Vegan, and GlutenFree options and the then ingredients list for many substitutions or modifications were "on the table" so to speak. Not a drinker but get a NA (non-alcholic) beer once in a while as filling and festive. Sadly the worst of these is O'Doul's and after years of saying no, my memory was refreshed that this is garbage. Tasteless non-beer like substance. St. Pauli, Becks, and about 10 others have much more tasty and realistic products. No rating "ding" for this just saying. For an app I got the vegan Avocado - quinoa, arugula, balsamic, red pepper, apple cider vinaigrette salad. This was ALL fresh and wonderfully arraigned/presented. The quinoa was properly cooked and greens fresh, cleaned, crispy. The mixture of all were nicely proportioned and this was a very nice salad. The main was a Hummus Wrap, cashew cheese, (never seen cashew cheese in a hotel restaurant in 36 years of travel - woohoo the WFPB consumerism is advancing), sweet potatoes, red peppers, hummus, spinach. This was also very nicely prepared and comprised of fresh and properly cooked vegetables. i am heavy handed with toppings and dressings and need to say the cashew cheese little heavy handed and "wet", but tasty. The sweet potatoes which were sort of the "meat" or prime of the sandwich were also a little mushy and overdone. A few al dente cubes would have "felt" and tasted better. However, this was a tasty and sufficient item and very fairly priced at $10. No a dessert guy, but when I saw a vegan & gluten free Lemon Chia Pudding, toasted coconut, blueberry compote....... Terrible.. Do Not Waste your time. Sam the morning manager is rude and very condescending. Told us to go get an UBER and eat at a different place if we wanted breakfast. Food was awful. In town for a weekend trip. I stayed at the Charleston Marriott, which this restaurant is located. After hanging out in the city, I ended my night cap at the Saffire's bar. Upset about awful food I'd had prior, I decided to try something on the menu. After a couple shots of tequila I ordered the seared scallops, which seem to be a popular dish. It was a starter but it was a very decent size, a meal basically. The scallops were served on grits mixed with a sweet corn purée and topped with shiitake mushrooms. Omg I was in heaven. Would have been 3 stars if not for the hair in the food. Staff was pleasant server was attentive. Portions were small in comparison to price. Was the smallest steak I've ever seen and the hair under it was disgusting. They offered to remake but at that point my guest was no longer hungry. Lashawne brought us a great breakfast to our table and stopped by several times to check on us...we both had omelets(3 eggs with the works) and my hubby added bacon and a side of oatmeal(which came with several toppings on the side). Our plates also came with a side of large diced crispy potatoes. My hubby had a carafe of decaf sitting on the table and I had regular coffee...ready to go for the day! Wait staff wore masks and I observed them sanitizing the tables and all items on it as tables were cleared. Thanks Marriott for a nice getaway weekend!! read more

I stayed at this hotel for a work trip and it was easy to grab food real fast in between events. The restaurant seemed clean and had a good view of the rest of the hotel ( I like to people watch while i eat!). For lunch I got this fried chicken breast sandwich with chipotle mayo and cole slaw. The sandwich was surprising pretty good! The fried chicken breast was seasoned perfectly. Normally I don't like cole slaw...especially on sandwiches but it worked well with the sandwich! The fries were delish! Crispy and seasoned perfectly. I dont know if I was just hungry but the sandwich and fries hit the spot! The meal was also reasonably priced as well. The next morning we had breakfast and I just got eggs, bacon, a side of hashbrowns and toast. It was okay...typical breakfast platter. The sandwich/fries was def. the better meal. I was disappointed by the service both times. They aren't really that attentive and I didn't have my glass refilled with water as much as I like. Saffire's Restaurant at the Marriott in Charleston has some of the best breakfast and brunch in Charleston. I really like their breakfast offerings and everything they serve is delicious and tasty. They have an all you can eat option that they offer that is very good for hungry people like myself. This place is great for business meetings and for a general meeting space for general business duties as there is plenty of wide open space and natural light that shines in. Everything here is relaxed and laid back and you can feel free to take your time to enjoy your meal and not feel rushed or hurried. Only ate here because we stayed in the hotel and because we were not on vacation (visiting family in hospital). It was surprisingly good for a hotel 3 meal a day restaurant. They have an assortment of flat breads, the sweet potato fries with dipping sauce were yummy, the cheese board was ample with sourdough buttered rounds and fig /almond bread. For entrees we tried the shrimp and grits, crab cakes and everything was tasty. 5-6 salads on the menu too. The tomato soup was raved about, but I had ordered the she crab which was too thick in my opinion, not bad but . . . did not have any dessert. This restaurant is truly a hidden gem on the peninsula. Located in the newly renovated Marriott hotel, Saffire offers a delightful dining experience at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The menu is simple, innovative, and certainly very flavorful. My husband and I recently dined at Saffire. We started off with a pair of freshly squeezed lemonade glasses. Warm bread and spreads followed. For an appetizer, we selected veggie samosa with tamarind date dip. This was the beginning of an excellent meal to come. For the main course, we order the mussels and linguine dish and the seafood trio dish. The fish served were rock shrimp crab cake, honey ale mussels, and tilapia. The flavors were simply clean, bold, and very satisfying. To end this perfect dinner, a luscious key lime pie on a ginger cookie with berries was served. This light dessert was the cherry on the cake. I've been to this restaurant many times before, and I have to say everytime I eat here, expectations never fail me. Friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere, prompt service, clean space, and wonderful food. The food portions are perfect; enough to satisfy the appetite but not excessive to make you feel guilty. And on top of all of this, the prices are wallet-friendly. This is a great place if you are hosting a group, meeting up with friends, or simply dining out for pleasure. This is the main restaurant in the Marriott Charleston I tried to start dinner with a friend green tomatoes; I have had many good fried green tomatoes but this was just terrible; all oil / little tomato. I had the crab cakes with Brussels sprouts and potatoes au gratin. The Brussels sprouts were perfection, crispy and great flavor. The crab cakes and potatoes were good, maybe less remoulade sauce. But I'd recommend if you didn't feel like venturing out and wanting to eat at the hotel. read more

Oh boy. I book Marriott for most of my business travel. Most Marriott restaurants are decent. Not stellar. Decent. One that I frequent is excellent. This place is simply poor. Attended a conference. City was raining buckets with flooding and sideways rain today so I was stuck here. This place is away from everything so you're a hostage in edgy weather. They should have an incredible food program based on their remote location, but the are far from it. The happy hour appetizers sponsored by our event were a 1 out of 5. The quality of house wine was gross which seems to be a Marriott tactic forcing you to buy up. The $32 rib eye was about 1/2 inch thick. No lie. 1/2 inch. I didn't take one bite and refused it. People around me were shocked. It was a $5 breakfast steak. By 8:00 pm, I went to my room for room service. Ordered a cheeseburger, House wine and French fries. $36. Seriously??? It sucked. Shame shame. I haven't even started on the hotel side yet. Overall, staff was good. Feel badly for them. Do not eat here. read more

Surprisingly tasty for a hotel restaurant. Not expecting much, we had breakfast here after seeing the reviews on Yelp. I got the Eggs Benedict and my husband got the breakfast bar. Both were delicious. The hollandaise is REAL hollandaise, not powdered and the hash browns that came with it were amazing. I think they fried them in butter... drool. The breakfast bar was fully stocked with anything you could want from fresh fruit and yogurt to fresh made omelets and waffles. My husband had the breakfast burrito which he said was one of the best he'd ever eaten. The service was also great. Our waitress was pleasant and accommodating without being intrusive. Perfect. It is a hotel restaurant which can always be a mixed bag but that being said I really enjoyed my meal here. The bartender was nice in switching the channel to a game I wanted to watch, which started off the meal well. My colleagues all seemed to enjoy their meals. I had the short rib with a side salad. Something to note here is that the waiter didn't seem to understand the concept of switching on the menu-side with a salad. I didn't get charged for the switch but one of my colleagues did. Overall the salad and the short rib was really good. I always need to remind myself that for the price a short rib is usually a small portion. read more

Now that I live in Charleston I would find little reason to dine at a hotel-affiliated restaurant, but this one is close to home so we thought we'd try it. My overall impression is that this is a work in progress; so much of the evening was hit-or-miss. We ordered off the Restaurant Week prix fixe menu. The fried green tomato app was a real loser- undercooked, underseasoned over a disappointing buttermilk dressing- but the fig and gorgonzola flatbread was much better-sweet figs and cheese matched against the salt of the prosciutto and tangy balsamic reduction was a great idea but the dish was inconsistent from end to end and the bread was allowed to burn in places. My partner had the Shrimp and scallop risotto. The risotto was perfectly cooked and the shrimp were plump and delicious as were the scallops. I had the chicken entrée. The airline breast was cooked through and hot but also very dry, however the sweet potato quinoa with wilted spinach and maple butter was spot on. I didn't ask if the desserts were house-made (I assumed not) but both the chocolate honey tart and the cheesecake were delicious. Limited wine list but reasonably priced. Service was, at best, adequate. Prix fixe dinner for 2 (not including tax or tip) $86. read more

Can only speak for breakfast, which basically consists of a full featured buffet with line chef doing waffles and eggs/omelets. The buffet was $14 and everything else on the menu basically consisted of things on the buffet. Saturday early had a fantastic fresh fruit lineup, but by late sunday, most of the fruit was gone and had not been replaced on the line. Eggs/omelets well prepared, egg white available, as well as fresh veggie options. Oatmeal with fixings available for filling the vegetarians. Overall, about on par pricewise with other local options, but much more convenient, particularly if you are near the hotel. read more

Perhaps they were overwhelmed by the basketball team eating breakfast, but the service of the waiters were awful..extremely inefficient. We had a reservation for restaurant week and got right in since the restaurant was empty at the time. There were 2 waiters with a total of maybe 5 tables in the whole place by the time we left so we cannot explain the slow service. Every other table received bread but ours and since we were the first ones there we didn't notice until we were almost done with our meal. Was this because one of us used the restsurant week menu? We don't know. I ordered capreese salad and there was no balsamic with it instead a very small amount of some kind of dressing. My husbands salad looked very good and hi liked his brisket. It's an above average hotel restaurant. They have tapas like items, typical continental fare and burgers. They try to cater a little to everybody, though I thought the vegetarian options were a little limited and the food I had tended to be on the heavy side. I had good service and the food came out pretty fast. They had really good soda bread that they put out on the table. Beer and wine menu was decent. The decor is modern chic with fancy glass lamps. The effect is ruined a bit by the fact it is open to the lobby. Visit the roof top lounge and pretend for a while that you are at a fancy overproduce Vegas hotel. read more

Worst experience ever which is disappointing because I used to visit this place at least 4 times a month. They have slowly started to slip in service and quality. That might explain the drop off in business. Recently visited this restaurant, service was extremely slow with less than 15 diners. Took forever to get drinks, had to hunt down waiter myself. Order screwed up.. Seriously, you might expect that from the kitchen when they are slammed not when there are so few people. Head Chef.. if you can call him that.. thought it was funny that someone in my party was 1. served something they did not order and 2. happen to be allergic too. His response as he chuckled..."Well guess this is not the restaurant for you." What class that he thinks that is ok for HIS kitchen to put out something like that. He should not be a sous chef much less the Head Chef. If you happen to have 3 hours for lunch and don't mind the wait or cold food when it finally arrives.. this is the place for you. This review is about the bar...specifically the bartender. Her name is Meredith. We had a group of 8 people, drank two rounds of drinks then asked for the check. She gave herself a 20% tip. I would not have had a problem with that if she had told us that when presenting the check. In fact, she didn't even circle the gratuity. She just tried to be greedy and deceptive. It's in the Marriott Riverside. Amazing decor, which makes it special but beware the booth seats sink too low - overall the food is pretty good but too pricey for the actual quality. From best to worst- Great: flatbread with pesto, and grilled mahi with corn salsa (very salty tho). Tasty but somewhat dry focaccia. Great service from Eugene. Very good black bean soup. Aweful- fried onion rings. Think deep fried cake donuts. Don't bother with the raspberry Napolean or the (stale) decaf. But the decor is great. read more
