Karen was nice but she over filled her schedule. She DID NOT COMPLETE the alterations she promised so I paid $700 for her to take in one side of the wedding dress and hem it. She was supposed to fix the bra cups but ran out of time and had to cut another client's time in half in order to fit me in TWO DAYS BEFORE my wedding. She gave me a bunch of tape and ON MY WEDDING DAY I HAD TO TAPE MY DRESS TO MYSELF 3 timeS throughout the day. The It almost ruined my wedding day to be honest. We took my daughters bridal dress to Karen Hendrix based on the reviews and recommendation from where we bought the dress thinking she would be the best person to work on a very expensive designer bridal dress for alterations. Karen was always very pleasant and we were so happy with our first appointment but it went downhill from there. Karen takes the measurements and does the pinning and then dictates directions into her phone to be done by her staff. That is where the disconnect comes in. Karen is not doing the majority of the work and you may have someone working on it who she is training. She is also not following up checking the work done. It is fair to say the work looked shoddy. Basically, almost everything that was done was done incorrectly. We brought the dress in 4 months early because we made it clear we wanted the dress at least 2 weeks before the wedding. Fittings were incorrect, appointments canceled and delayed. She took the joy out of having a dream wedding dress experience. Truly was a nightmare. They basically had to redo all the shoddy work the last appointment which was less than 48 hours to the wedding. To name a few of the errors: waist taken in too tight, zipper and hook in the back put back so it was sticking out exposed for all to see where before it was seamless, random threads everywhere, scrunched up siding that should be smooth, the bustle was 100% wrong and not what we discussed and straps were not adjusting correctly as we discussed. Meanwhile we missed dinner with out of town family guests because we had to wait for this dress for 4 hours and retry it on again with more corrections! The had 4 months to work on the dress and practically had to redo everything in the last 48 hours and acted as if they were doing us a favor by working late to finish it. The bustle did not stay up for the wedding. The buttons were sewn on loose and the snaps for the under layers did not stay snapped. My daughter had to go into the bathroom 3 times to literally sew the dress together. Disappointment is an understatement and I would NEVER recommend taking any dress there for alterations. I also feel we should get a refund for the almost $900 she charged but I am certain that won't happen since it was already paid in full. read more

Karen is an artist when it comes to alterations! She is so sweet and easy to work with and I LOVE how my dress alterations turned out. Despite having gained some weight during the pandemic between my original wedding and our anniversary reception (thanks for derailing our plans, Covid) I felt gorgeous in my gown. Karen and her team are absolute gems. They are wonderful people to work with, professional, friendly, and extremely talented. Karen's eye for design is one of a kind. When I picked my dress, I knew it was going to be a long process to make it perfect for our wedding day, and there is no one I trusted more than Karen and her team. They are miracle workers! I needed the upper part of my dress lined as well as it hemmed and cut to fit my short torso. After a long history with ill-fitting formal dresses, I was nervous but quickly discovered I could trust Karen to make it right. Karen and her team not only cut the most beautiful sweetheart lining for my dress, but were able to adjust the lace overlay to fit correctly on my short torso and back. She didn't give up or settle for second best - she worked to make it right time and time again. I am so thankful to them for making this dress my dream. Cannot recommend them enough! I cried sad, not happy, tears when I got my wedding pictures because of this dress fiasco. Karen is a sweet lady who is probably good at traditional gowns. First, she convinced me to put large cups in it, even though I argued I wanted to look natural. Called her NEXT DAY saying I made a mistake, please don't alter it with those cups. She did it anyways and from then on out, the top was too large. Each appointment was a new issue but the top was always too large. I was so stressed each time (4 total) I left because I felt like we were not looking at the same dress...She likely should have taken in the center seams again with the new, smaller cups. Instead, she took it up from the straps, hereby ruining the deep V and location of cups. I thought she knew what she was doing, and I was desperate for it to be better, so I agreed to each change like an idiot. (Also every appointment was a new charge $$ of course) I stood crying at my "pick up" fitting knowing that could not be truly fixed... the deep V was ruined, and it was still too loose in the boobs. Her head seamstress took it in from the sides where the mesh was, which helped some for sure, but not tight enough to avoid the cups SHOWING when I moved at all (my gramma helped fix this some the day before the wedding), and my boobs would not stay in the cups. She didn't want to move the cups down because then it would seem like my boobs were too low or something ‍‍ but it wasn't tight enough to hold them up in the cups. In the middle of the reception I went upstairs, still trying to fix the top with tape because I was so uncomfortable. The problem was that she would look at it and think it looked great!! Every fitting... I would have to advocate for it to be tighter in the top, above the butt, etc. (the way it's intended to be worn)... but I'm not a seamstress or a very forward person so it was really difficult to advocate for the dress and a terrible error was made in the process. Now I want to burn the dang thing. My wedding dress! I have cried many tears over this. I know it's partly my fault for letting her do it, but I think a truly amazing seamstress would have had the good sense to redo the parts that were done with the big cups in and it would have made all the difference. Please don't use her if your dress is a little less than traditional or difficult! I know you may look at it and think, oh it's not that bad... but you want your day and your dress to be perfect! read more

I wish I could give more than five stars. Out of all the things about wedding planning, I was dreading wedding dress alterations the most for various reasons. It's hard to trust someone with the most expensive dress I will probably ever wear. Karen and her team made my dress fit so well and I feel so much relief. They were also reasonably priced within the range I was expecting after researching online- not cheap but I definitely feel like I got more than my money's worth. After the second (2/3) fitting the dress wasn't fitting quite as I wanted it to- they did a great job on the alterations but it just wasn't looking right to me. I called Karen to discuss a few changes I wanted to make and she let us do an additional fitting and carefully listened to all my concerns and made all the changes. We shortened a strap, brought up a waist line, and removed the cups they originally inserted so I could do a more natural look with a sticky bra. Now the dress fits exactly how I was envisioning and I'm so looking forward to wearing it. read more

5/10/2014: Karen doesn't deserve 5 stars - she deserves 500! She truly is nothing short of a real-life fairy godmother. I went to my first dress fitting today with a very challenging dress project (bodice from one dress, skirt from another dress) and started crying when I saw it for the first time ... it was perfect. She really is making my dreams come true! 10/4/2014 Follow-up: Just had my 3rd dress fitting with Karen (as I am rapidly losing weight and going down in size). It is utterly remarkable the magic she has been able to make with my dress. I feel 100% confident and at ease with her in charge, knowing that it will come out perfect! 11/8/2014 Final Product: My dress was everything I could have ever dared dream of, all because of this remarkable, talented, lovely lady. Karen truly is your real life, wedding dress fairy godmother. I brought my wedding dress to her after another seamstress was stumped because I knew she was the best in town. She is a real artist and craftswoman, and my dress was in great hands. My dress came with imperfections in the bust that caused wrinkling and she really went above and beyond to make my dress look smooth and symmetrical. For my non-traditional wedding, I wanted a short dress, but because I wear white lace on a regular basis, I wanted it to still look bridal rather than something I pulled out of my closet. I checked 10+ bridal salons in 3 states and scoured the internet, and found nothing. Finally, I contacted Karen thinking "custom is probably way out of my price range, but it couldn't hurt to ask." As a woman of color, it was important to me to see that she had experience dressing people with a range of body types and skin tones, in contrast to designers whose portfolios looked like they'd been printed from a cookie cutter. Fast forward a few months, and I had exactly the perfect dress without breaking the budget. It fit like it was tailor-made for my body, because it was, felt light and breezy despite the heat and humidity surrounding a Southern summer thunderstorm, and held up beautifully even when I repeatedly sat on wet grass, tree stumps, and rocks (and twirled fantastically on the dance floor). I got so many compliments that day, which maybe is just part of being a bride, but I believe that Karen and her team's handiwork was a huge part of it! Karen was so wonderful in all the fittings, explaining what she was doing and why she was making particular choices about fabric and cutting and seams (I'm curious!). She was gracious in accommodating the friends I brought to my fittings since I didn't have family in town. I was so disappointed in this experience. I brought my dress here for alterations, because she does custom dresses so I thought she could make the significant alterations I was needing. She was certainly skilled enough to accomplish the changes, but she repeatedly(!!!) forgot what we had discussed. In my first appointment, she offered to create a pocket in my dress, and we agreed that she would fix the sleeves, and remove a layer of the crinoline. When I came to my next fitting, she offered again to create a pocket, had not fixed the sleeves, and had not removed the layer of crinoline. Not only had she not done these things, but she seemed to have forgotten that she said she would. At this fitting, she re-wrote down that she was going to do these things, and pinned the hem but said she wouldn't hem it until the layer of crinoline was removed in case it messed with the skirt. She also found a way to charge me another $75 even though at my first fitting she said I was paid in full. I show up for my next fitting and she says "okay are we ready for pickup?" -- but I was not supposed to pick it up because it was not supposed to be hemmed yet! So I said this, and went to try on my dress, and SHE STILL HAD NOT REMOVED THE CRINOLINE. This time she did it right there in front of me, but I still had to wait several more weeks to see it hemmed, and twice more she forgot to remove the manufacturer's bra cups, until, on the day of pickup, I reminded her. All in all, she forgot MULTIPLE times what she said she was going to do, despite writing it down in her voice-dictated phone message system (which does not seem to be working). I hate my dress, and I'm getting married next week and still never got pockets. So. Disappointed. read more

Karen is absolutely the best for a custom bridal gown or any alteration. She is so creative and talented and should also be the first person you go to for Mother of the Bride or Groom dress. My daughter-in-law had her combine a top and a bottom from two dresses and the final wedding dress was exquisite. She was delightful to work with. If you have any need for a special event dress you should meet with her. Plan ahead as these wonderful creations may take 6 months to complete. read more

My best friend is getting married this weekend, and this alterations company has been the most stressful part of the entire thing. First of all, the alterations cost was much more expensive than other companies in town, but she paid the cost because she wanted her dress to be perfect. Karen has had this dress for months, and when it was finally ready ONE WEEK before her big day, we got to the final appointment and it still wasn't done. Karen didn't even call to tell her it wasn't going to be done before she got to the appointment all excited to take it home with her. Also, once she tried it on, another bridesmaid and I found multiple things that needed to be adjusted. The beads on the back didn't cover the zipper and it was crooked, and the bottom of the beads needed to be adjusted as well, as it didn't line up. The lace wasn't sewn on the bottom, there were still pins EVERYWHERE, we couldn't even really practice doing the bustling because even that wasn't done!! So she swears to my best friend that it will be done Tuesday (which means Katie has to make a 3 hour round trip AGAIN during her wedding week into town to get this dress, and then guess what happens? Karen calls this morning to say it still won't be done. My best friend is sobbing, she's so stressed, and Karen blatantly tells her that she's overbooked herself and there's no way it'll be done today. On Friday, we asked if it could be picked up Sunday, and Karen said they're closed that day. In my opinion, I don't give a flip if you're closed, if you promise a bride something, you make it happen, especially this close to her wedding day. I'm so disappointed in this "business." Just a warning to future brides to stay away from this woman who doesn't come through on her promises, does shotty work, and WAY overcharges. SO disappointed!! read more
