Once again!! Never disappointing. This is my Mallorca sandwich spot! Where sweet and salty meet. Simply the best. The staff here are wonderful. Ready to take care of your food cravings. Let's not forget about the espresso or cafe leche! The restaurant always clean and the desserts are in abundance. If you're ever in the area...GET SOME!!!!
I see why this place has hosted 2 sitting presidents... Everything I had here was amazing. The bacalao fritters were lightly crispy on the outside, chewy (like firm mashed potatoes) on the inside. So good! The strawberry cheesecake was fantastic. It was this spongy, airy crust that gave it an even more delight texture. The flaky pastry filled with guava filling was divine. The crispiness of the pastry combined with the tart sweetness of the guava... Absolute perfection. The apple, guava and cheese danish was a unique, local take on a classic breakfast pastry and it delivered in every way. Well worth a visit if you can make it here.
Local and tourist favorite, this one of the best bakeries we visited in San Juan. I love the Obama story that is posted on the wall from the time he visited Kasalta, it's so sweet. Classic Puerto Rican coffee and endless savory and sweet treats from Tres Leches, Quesitos, Sandwiches, Croquettes, etc. all fantastic. It is walk up service with cafeteria style dining- sometimes it can be a long line depending on the day/ time, but it's worth the wait.
BOMBACLATTTT!!!! First off the restaurant is poppin'. Parking is limited so hopefully you can get a spot close by! We parked in their designated parking and they have a parking security guard that helps with coming in and out. Walking into the restaurant things are set up a lil awkward. You walk all the way inside and form the line at the end of the restaurant- sometimes standing behind people eating like in my picture. Hack** you can order sandwiches at the pastery line that's located closest to the door. Big man ting. The Cuban sandwich was pretty good but my girl loved the turkey. The coffee tho ... that thang was BUSSIN' get you a damn large cup unlike my lil kids meal one. Pretty good and fair price we paid about $30 for everything
My wife and I were staying in San Juan and we decided to take an Uber out to this Yelp recommended restaurant and my friend told me to try the Tripleta. I got a local beer to was down the perfect cheese and meat and wonderful bread of this tripleta/Perfecta. I guess they had Obama even visit and they have a poster on the wall. Pretty cool. I wanted to try all their cheeses and it starts to fill up at lunchtime. Great place for a sammy and a beer!
This place was down the street from my accommodation and didn't realize how storied it was until after I had landed. Asked the cashier what her favorite sandwich was and she said the spicy steak. Very filling and the fresh orange juice was tasty, a bit pricey but I guess it's expected as the island continues to go through gentrification.
This was a great pit stop on our way to Loíza. We stopped for an afternoon snack. There's a parking lot right next to it that had plenty of empty spots at this time of the day. We tried their guava and coconut cake which was yum, and the ham, egg, cheese sandwich on Mallorca bread. The cheese in this was just incredible! The bread was certainly interesting - they sprinkle icing sugar on it... definitely worth trying if you've never had it before but not sure I'd get the bread again. The sandwich can easily be shared between two. Good portion. Also got two cappuccinos which were fairly average. There is no table service but staff are really helpful and friendly! On a side note, I thought it was interesting how there were no trash cans in the bakery (or outside). Also been told to try their guava pasteles but they had run out when we went. Next time!
Kasalta Bakery was a 2 minute drive away from my air b n b when I was in San Juan, and we visited many times during our trip. Initially, it was a recommendation from my cousin, but when we tried it, we fell in love! Each time we visited, the bakery was lively between the workers and the guests - you can tell there were many regulars and tourists, alike! From the workers, to the pastries and breakfast options, this place felt so homey and I was elated that I could ate back into my childhood when ordered these pastries and desserts. The cafe con leche was a must every morning. Their pastelito de guayaba was to die for - I wish I had 4 more! 12/10 On another day when's I visited, I tried their flan de coco. I believe - if I'm not mistaken that they had 3 flavors of flan. But the flan de coco was also a 10/10. On the days I visited, my husband and I also had breakfast sandwiches which were delicious and fresh. Kasalta Bakery is a must visit if you are in the San Juan area! You will not be disappointed!
Stopped here for breakfast around 11am on a Sunday. I was told that their pastries and food were really good. I did enjoy the empanada but the coffee was bland. I couldn't find any sugar and they don't do flavored coffee. If you want iced, please visit elsewhere or settle for hot coffee. The line was at least a 20 min wait so I grabbed a table while my boyfriend ordered for us. I would say get there early if you're looking for sancocho as they ran out early . (I mainly went for it) but settled for an empanada. The restaurant is clean in the dining area from what I could tell and the pastries were popular. You can order to go or choose to sit but you must order in line. I learned that Obama visited here years ago which was a pretty fun fact. I would definitely come again but early enough to take advantage of their soup and sandwich.
This place was a blind pick on a beach walk. The restaurant was very welcoming and the staff was kind. They try to get you to the right place by asking if you're here to dine, to order out, (soups salads,and desserts) or a la carte. This place is near the beach and convenient to get out of the heat. The staff was less attentive once I explained I wanted a la carte. We ordered the chicken breast and salad and the burger from the lunch special. The food was not picture worthy, and I mean this kindly because the staff was nice. It's important to note that it is a Spanish diner, because otherwise you expect a Puerto Rican experience and that's not what we got hahaha.

*** The real deal cafetería type of spot, where you get a great tasting sandwich and best breakfast. *** Now, given: it's not dirt cheap. But if you're like me, you'd rather spend a few dollars more and not have Burger King for breakfast. This place is an institution, and right in the heart of the beachy residential zone of Ocean Park, between Condado and Isla Verde. It's been there since I can remember, and it's always packed for a good reason. I went some time ago and had a delicious Media Noche sandwich -- or as they call it, the Presidential Selection, after President Barack Obama's visit, since that's what he ordered. The Media Noche was perfect, with the soft and sweet customary bread. I also had the infamous and perfect café con leche (coffee & milk), which can spoil you rotten and make you despise Starbucks big time; and I also ordered a strawberry smoothie. Midway through that I realized I ordered too much food for one person, but hey, I'm a trouper, and I almost finished it all. I went with my dad and he ordered scrambled eggs with ham, cheese, tomato and other good stuff, and the most perfect, Criollo style buttered toast. He was lucky I was full, that's all I'm gonna say. There's parking towards the right side of the building. Este sitio es una institución, y ubicado justo en el corazón de la urbanización playera de Ocean Park, entre Condado e Isla Verde. Kasalta ha estado ahí desde que tengo uso de razón, y siempre está lleno por muy buen motivo. Hace un tiempo fui y ordené el famoso emparedado de Media Noche -- o como le llaman, la Selección Presidencial, luego que el Presidente estadounidense Barack Obama visitara Kasalta y ordenara dicho emparedado en una reciente visita a la Isla. La Media Noche es excelente, con el pan suave y dulce. También ordené el famoso y perfecto café con leche, que en mi opinión malacostumbra a cualquiera, superando por mucho el café de Starbucks. Además ordené el batido de fresa. En medio de comer, claro, me dí cuenta que ordené demasiada comida para una persona, pero saqué pecho, y casi-casi terminé todo. Fui con mi papá, y él ordenó el desayuno de revoltillo con jamón, queso, tomate y otras cosas, y tostadas criollas, ¡las mejores! The food was decent, however they got my whole order wrong. They only speak Spanish, there's so many tourists in there they need at least one person that speaks English. read more
Best mallorcas in town! You don't walk in to Kasalta and not order one! They are a big, messy and full of buttery goodness. The correct way to eat one is to have a nice piping hot cup of coffee, the hot mallorca and extra butter. Make sure you spread butter on each piece you eat. Of course they have other pastries that are also fantastic. The tiramisu, the tembleque and the meringue were all amazing. Be careful, the meringue is quite big and you might get a sugar high. I haven't had the sandwiches or other options since I was a kid. I plan to return soon to see how those are these days. The staff was fine. They seemed to be a little busy so you have to be patient when trying to get their attention. They also keep the place as clean as possible. They have staff constantly visiting the tables and picking up. Kasalta is a must do! read more

MEDIA NOCHE SANDWICH! YES, PLEASE! A friend recommended that we come here to check out the sandwiches during our trip to Puerto Rico, and also to check it out since President Obama came to visit this place as well! The line to order sandwiches were long, but they went by fast. We ordered a couple sandwiches, one of which were the ones that the President ordered: Media Noche. The bread was soft, the meat was fresh, and really just grilled to perfection! It was so ridiculously addicting that my boyfriend went back in line to order another sandwich! There's a separate line for the pastries, which was never really as long as the sandwich line. I was craving something with Guava, so my boyfriend got me a Guava pastry, but it was a bit too sweet! It seriously hurt my teeth so I only ate a few bites before I threw in the towel. OH! And I heard they had good coffee, but I wasn't able to try it. Just a tip: You may want to sharpen up on your Spanish if you don't speak the language. This place is very much into the language, so be ready to order in Spanish! read more

Definitely try this place out! We had breakfast at this place and it was definitely worth it, I was very pleased with the meal and they display a variety of pastries. If you're around the area you should definitely stop by. read more

Good local place.. Boasts to have had a visit from President Obama in June 2011 (see pic, with MSG that got cut off).. This was a block from where we were staying, so we came here at least 6-7 times during our visit... Sandwiches: we had the ham & cheese, medianoche (what Obama got), turkey, turkey club, but the best is the bistec which comes with some sort of crunchy shredded potatoes or something...whatever, it's good. But you should add Swiss or some other cheese. Al sandwiches are very dry; no/very little sauce. We got a variety of desserts which were all pretty but somewhat flavorless, not exciting. This place is always busy and service is pretty efficient.. read more

AMAZING!!! This place is for people that's undecided like me. don't know if They want breakfast, brunch, dinner or dessert in the morning or anytime of the day, This place got it all. Bakery; they have all sort of goodies, every Puerto Rican pastries to chocolate, cake, ham and cheese! I ordered the avena, ham egg and cheese sandwich, papaya smoothie and chicken noodle soup! Everything came out very good. I personally think they put a lot of ham in the sandwich ( which could be a good thing but it was too much for me which made the sandwich a little salty.) The chicken noodle soup TOUCHED my soul!!! It's amazing! It's not your average soup, their soup is so flavorful and the chicken was so tender! ( I think this can cure any hangover) The papaya smoothie wAs so fresh, you can really tell they made it with real, fresh papaya! If you are in the area and looking for a great spot, give this place a try! read more

Delicious and well priced food! Visited here three times during my week stay. You order food cafeteria style at the counter. 3 separate counters: 1 for sandwiches and main meals and 2 others for pastries, cakes, and chocolates. This place reminded me of Le Panier in Seattle, but instead of the French ambiance, a more cafeteria styled, simple and lively, place to be. I tried the mini Cuban and chocolate mousse as well as the croissant ham and cheese sandwich and a chocolate vanilla cheesecake. The mini Cuban was about 4 inches long and 3 inches wide- and only $3.00 compared to the normal Cuban that is about three times its size. The chocolate mousse and chocolate cheesecake were each a steal at $2.25. And the croissant sandwich was only $5. After tax all, of the above cost less than $15 read more

A very popular neighborhood place with comfort food, for breakfast, lunch or dinner, mostly served in paper and plastic crockery. The food is very easy to like. The sandwiches are all freshly made and warm as I prefer, while not looking huge, they fill you up for a while. The soups are just so so. The cold dishes are below average. It has many Puerto Rican sweets, very addictive. Coffee with milk is good and meets the Puerto Rican coffee standard. Ever since Obama visited this place, it has become more popular even to the tourists. With the high sales tax in Puerto Rico now, it has become expensive for this type of simple food. There are many places on the island that serve equivalently good or better, but it's still worth trying. read more

Enjoyed ham, egg and cheese with bread, a couple of mimosas and bottles of water. Another reviewer offered good advice that there are separate lines for pastries vs prepared food. The bread really made this dish. read more

The absolute best bakery in PR. Coffee wines cheeses and more. The president ate at the table we sat at. Pretty amazing quesitos too. They heat them for you. Spanish ham hangs among the exquisite and extensive displays of meats and cheeses. Enjoy yourself and indulgence is a privilege here! read more

Definitely 5 star place for us visitors. We ordered media noche, fran coco, and a guava cheese pastry! Media noche is a bit too meaty for me on a 8:30am morning though... But i absolutely loved the pickles, cheese, ham and mustard and how they come together with great flavor! Fran coco is on the chewy and chuncky side, I love it much better than the creamy and butter fran. Big win! :) Guava cheese pastry no surprise, a standard one. We are going back again tomorrow. You can see how much we love it!! read more

We stayed at the DreamCatcher inn(Amazing inn to stay at ) here in the neighborhood and read about Kasalta from the owners map / neighborhood guide and it was within walking distance so we wanted to try it out. The place is nice but a bit confusing. The sell meat products on one side of the counter, pastries and dessert items in the middle and have a sandwich / soup counter at the end. You can also get coffee drinks, juice drinks, sodas , beers, wines and even champagnes here!. We got the Cafe Frio (hot coffee served with a cup of ice on the side) which I just drank hot. Coffee was smooth and delicious. We then picked out a few of the pastries but none really blew us away or stood out. Everything was good but not great. I can why it's a staple of the neighborhood but do not know if I would go back a second time. read more

Yummy breakfast in a small deli like cafe. I ordered the revoltillo w/ tostadas and hot chocolate and my cousin ordered the mallorca. We also sat where Obama sat when he visited the restaurant in 2011. read more
Kasalta is a bakery and deli, which offers a delicious breakfast. We visited during our vacation in San Juan because it was a restaurant President Obama had patroned during his trip to Puerto Rico. For breakfast, my wife had a freshly baked croissant with a hot chocolate. I had an egg, ham, and cheese sandwich with a coffee con leche. The bread on the sand which has toasted perfectly so the melanoidins created a chocolate character in the bread which melded nicely with the cheese. It was a simple and elegant breakfast. If you are visiting San Juan, this is a great deli to visit for an affordable meal. read more

Kasalta is the best known bakery in San Juan. Came here to have breakfast and it was delicious. The expresso and oatmeal is a must. However, if you want oatmeal, you must come early... just goes to show. The wait can be long. Great hospitality. read more
