    Chicken Karahi
    Nadia S.

I was looking for a Pakistani spot around Pike Place and happened to stumble upon Kastoori Grill, so decided to give it a try. I ordered the chicken karahi and chicken dum biryani for pickup. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed. The portion sizes were quite small for the price, which already felt off. On top of that, both the curry and the biryani were extremely oily/ghee-heavy, to the point where it felt greasy and not very enjoyable to eat. Flavor-wise, it was just okay and not at all impressive . I ordered it spicy, but it still came out very mild. It felt like they just added some jalapeños on top, which didn't really add heat or depth. The staff member who handed over the order was friendly but overall the food just didn't feel worth the money. If you're South Asian and used to eating authentic karahi or biryani, you'll probably notice the difference right away. It's a great location, and I really hope they improve because the potential is there, but I personally wouldn't go back.

Kastori Grill will hit 15 years soon, but it feels like a quiet reset is happening. Over the past few months, it's almost like a new restaurant has emerged. The story behind it is solid. A couple impacted by tech layoffs decided to bet on something personal--their love for food--and go all in on the restaurant. They started small, just three people, and have grown to a team of nine. More importantly, they've raised their standards. You can feel it in the food. Ratings have climbed from the low 3s into the 4+ range, and it tracks. The husband, who runs the kitchen, is clearly thinking in systems; refining process, dialing in consistency, and pushing for better quality using simple ingredients. The result is some of the freshest authentic Pakistani style food in the city right now. Standouts: the biryani (especially if you catch the potato version), tandoori chicken, and lamb. All clean, flavorful, and well-executed. Location-wise, it's easy to miss; right near The Purple by Pike Place Market, tucked into what's basically a hole-in-the-wall setup. But that's usually where the best spots are anyway. They'll serve alcohol if you ask, and it sounds like they're working on expanding their drink program. For now, it's a straightforward breakfast, lunch, and dinner operation focused on getting the food right, and it shows.

Kastoori Grill completely impressed me. The flavors in every dish were outstanding, rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. You get that deep, comforting Indian-Nepalese flavor profile without anything feeling heavy. We ordered the biryani, chicken korma, and chicken karahi, and every single dish hit the spot. The biryani was fragrant and perfectly spiced, the chicken korma was creamy and comforting without being overly rich, and the chicken karahi had bold, vibrant flavors that made it one of my favorites of the night. I ordered everything at medium spice. It had a nice warmth, but honestly, I would've loved just a touch more heat, so if you like a solid kick, I'd recommend going a level up. The seasoning itself was spot-on: layered, bold, and deeply satisfying. Friendly staff, generous portions, and a super convenient Pike Place location make Kastoori Grill an easy go-to for delicious, approachable Indian-Nepalese food. I'll definitely be back next time, ordering hot!

Came here by chance as most of the restaurants were already closed at 3PM. Came with teenagers who have never tried Pakistani or Indian food. We ordered the usual fare of vegetable pakora, garlic naan, chicken biryani and butter chicken. We were recommended to try their lamb bohti. Every dish was flavorful. I just found the butter chicken a bit sweet for my taste. But the lamb bohti was a revelation. The meat was tender and juicy. It was savory with just the right heat. The restaurant was casual with most tables seating 4. But they do have 2 long tables for big groups such as ours. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful. I would say the price is reasonable.

    The view from my table

My friend and I were walking around after a shift at work and we were absolutely starving, we walked around from Westlake's ASEAN street and all around the waterfront and we looked at so many menus and ratings but our decision was so easy when the aroma from this place drew us in like pie from a windowsill. The prices are very good considering it's right by Post Alley and my friend and I have been to multiple places that serve similar foods but this place is the true hero. The service wasn't overbearing in any way yet they made sure to check in on us enough times. I would recommend this place to anybody who wants some greatly priced, delicious and authentic cuisine. I will say that the portion sizes are off putting at first but the food was so filling and they know exactly what they're doing, so trust the process! You won't regret eating here at all. The interior of the restaurant is honestly pretty nice, it feels like home vs some bright millennial vibe

Stumbled upon this home in the wall Indian grill on my trip to Seattle. The food is awesome. You have lots of flavorful, spicy, rich dishes from curries to freshly made naan. The veggies were not overcooked nor were the proteins in the buffet area. The gulab jamun was mid. It's served cold and sitting in cold syrup. Very interesting and not good considering I've only had gulab jamun served hot. Anyway, if you're looking for an affordable Indian option in the area go check it out - but don't expect friendly faces to welcome you or an upscale restaurant. Very low key.

Amazing service! Yummy food ‍. We stopped inside on a whim because it smelled so great from the sidewalk! My sense of smell did not disappoint! The server was so sweet, I requested Keema and even though it wasn't on the menu, he was able to make it quickly in the kitchen. He went above and beyond for me and I really appreciated it(the keema was soooooooo good). If you're visiting the area, this restaurant is definitely somewhere you need to try!

I could see how it would be good for groups. The one thing I did not like was that it was way too hot in the restaurant, like uncomfortably hot. They needed the AC on. Between 4 people, we ordered 2 appetizers, 4 entrees, and 2 orders of naan. The entrees each came with a small portion of rice as well. The portions were quite generous so we had leftovers (enough for 2 meals). My favorite was the dal makhani with garlic naan. It was lentil based so it was kind of like a bean dip in texture. I also loved the malai kofta with rice. These were little potato/paneer balls in a thicker gravy. We were not fans of the paneer tikka masala as it was too sweet. This gravy was much more liquid. These 3 dishes all had distinct flavors, which is what we were aiming for to have some variety! If I came back, the only thing I would skip would be the paneer tikka masala. We also ordered the falooda for dessert. It was big enough to share between the 4 of us. This was my first time trying this dessert, and it was very unique. I've never had vermicelli noodles in dessert before so that threw me off a little! There was a very strong saffron flavor. The service was pretty good and our food was served quickly.

Hey whatever, this was his second visit to Seattle, essentially my stance is do what you need to do. He called the restaurant a number of times to inquire about menu items over the course of his stay. Me, I would have just showed up with my feed me mindset. Finally, on 6/21/19 (yeah over a year ago) we finally ended up at the restaurant. Remember how Meg Ryan's character from When Harry Met Sally orders in a restaurant? Well here it played out in Urdu. Oh the brief and not so subtle visual and body language signals from the kitchen staff and our wait person. Just typing this now, I'm smirking and visuals fly by, lmao. It's rare for me to have someone order an entire meal without my input, but this was best to sit back and just wait and see. Eventually a variety of dishes start appearing, see attached photos. They were tasty but nothing overly remarkable compared my usual go to in Greenwood. The date shake was novel though. I still cannot believe the volume of food ordered. I remember just having a modest amount to be polite. The restaurant itself at the time went through an interior refresh. While seated, I observed a healthy traffic of takeout preCovid-19. And eventually towards, the end of this meal, additional customers came in to be seated. I frequent Capitol Hill, both preCovid-19 and during the pandemic restrictions. It is good to see they remain in business even after a year of me driving or walking past. Maybe, just maybe, I'll return and see what the big deal is about any of the bone-in goat entrees that wasn't available back then.

We weren't aware as we went somewhere else to wait as it was very cold. We weren't sure if we had a spot after that but luckily the employee who was cleaning was done and offered that spot. The music was also so low I didn't know it was even on, they have a loud fan going on and even their TVs have no volume. It's a pretty awkward ambiance, especially with how they try to look like they are a upscale restaurant. It did take some time to get food and it seems like the kitchen was frustrated too as I heard the bell signaling food being ready several times. The food was actually good, especially for the price. The portions are generous. We never had paratha but our friend recommended it so we got the aloo paratha while my boyfriend got their butter masala and I got their tikka masala extra hot. It wasn't really spicy at all, definitely nothing like what I've had at other Indian restaurants. The curries were flavorful with good pieces of chicken. We might return if we need something nearby but there are definitely better options that I would walk for.
