Let me start by saying this place is hot. Like an oven hot. No AC and no windows to open. It is small so all the heat from the kitchen is trapped inside the restaurant. We changed our plans from dine in to take out and ate in the car. As far as the food, it was hot and freshly made. The naan was ok, a little dry and it didn't come with any dipping sauces... not sure if that is normal of if I have just been spoiled as all the Indian places I have eaten at give you small portions of different sauces to dip the naan in. I've been searching for tasty Indian in the Seattle area for a while and I think I finally found a winner! I ordered the paneer tikka and vegetable samosas and loved them. My partner had the tandoori chicken and loved how flavorful and moist it was. I think the prices are a little steep but that is sort of just a symptom of Seattle in general; you can prob pay the same or more somewhere else that isn't as good. Avoid the place. Tomato soup was yellow and tasted so bad, I had to check with the staff if it was really tomato soup, biryani was white rice refried in mix veg and lots of oil, so greasy. This is our go-to Indian food spot. The sauces and dishes we've had are excellent, the sides and naan are abundant and generous. The only downside is somehow the chicken always manages to be a bit tough. If they could fix this one thing they'd get 5 stars from me. We are creatures of habit here so always get Tikka Masala, butter chicken or tandoori chicken (this one is actually usually perfect, not tough). We discovered this wonderful restaurant during the Christmas snow storm of 2021, when most of Pike Place dos t open due to employees not being able to ge to to the city. We were SO glad we did. We went in because of the fabulous cooking odors as we walked by. Just delicious food and kind service. Today was our first full day in Seattle this trip and could not wait to get back here. The smells as we crossed the street reminded us of the treats to come. Oh so yum - mango lassi, perfect naan, chicken pakora, shahi paneer, basmati rice with whole cardamom. I dream about this food. I'd been meaning to try out Nepalese cuisine for a long time. I was working the night shift, and Kastoori Grill happened to deliver through Uber Eats up to 10pm. Three coworker's and I shared chili chicken momos, chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, vegetable samosas, and garlic naan. Everything was a win, one after the other. I'm not a big fan of indian, but all of the indian dishes were top shelf. The samosas especially where the best is eaten, much larger than anything is seen before, and a little crispy on the outside but with a thin external wrapper. The chili momos were superb, almost a Chinese-Indian crossover with tender chicken dumplings bathed in a thick, tangy garlic sauce with stir fried onions and peppers. I would absolutely go for Kastoori grill next time South Asian food is suggested. read more

I've ordered take out from Kastoori Grill many times. Last night I tried their mutton biryani and to my surprise it was an above average biryani. After having tried biryani failures at many restaurants, I wasn't expecting much from this place either, but it actually turned out to be good. It was loaded with mutton pieces! I only wished that the mutton was a bit more soft. I regularly order their C-Momos, they are my favorite. Reminds me of Gravy Momos in India. These momos are covered in a very flavorful tomato base sauce. I also order their Gobhi Manchurian quite often and I'd say it's sort of inconsistent. Sometimes it's cooked perfectly, while other times it has huge pieces of undercooked cauliflower. Nonetheless, the spicy coating on it is quite good. In mains I'd suggest having their Shahi Paneer. It has capsicum pieces though so it reminded me of Kadhai Paneer in India, but the flavors were quite good. read more

We were hungry for lunch and having a tough time deciding on where to go. We walked past this place and the smell was so great it drew us in. We didn't even realize they had a buffet, but at $13/person for lunch it seemed like the obvious choice. Not being an expert at Indian food, it was a great opportunity to try a lot of different options. Overall, everything was good, but nothing really blew me away. It seemed it all could have had a little more spice or flavor. The atomosphere is ok - not many windows so a little dark and felt a little run down, but fit the "hole in the wall" vibe. Came to Kastoori Grill with a friend for lunch during the work week and this was a little gem I didn't realize was there. Located at the end of Post Alley near Pike Place Market off 1st & Stewart. Surprisingly, the place was pretty busy with the work crowd which seemed to be a good sign. Its a $10 lunch buffet, but you can order from the regular menu if you want. Good amount of buffet selections from tandoori chicken, curry chicken, veggie pakoras, eggplant something, and a few more different delicious curry dishes. They offer desserts as well such as delicious mango soft serve and a mango pudding thing. Naan isn't complimentary with the meal but it is served fresh and hot. They just drop it off at your table without you even needing to ask. Its not the best curry I've ever had but a pretty good spot for a lunch and especially at that price point. Service was fine with water refills, removing plates and separating checks which is done at the front. Feels sorta like sitting in a basement but whatever, and my clothes smelled like curry when I got back to work, whatever on that too! The traditional style chicken curry "khukro ko maangso" is simple yet flavorful. They use very good quality of basmati rice, very fragrant and satisfying ( try the first spoon without any curry). We made a trip to Seattle and had to come to Pike place market. You could smell Kastoori grill as you walk down to the market. We made our way around the market and by evening time it was time to enjoy a meal. Because of the wonderful smells coming from this little restaurant, we knew this was the spot. We were greeted by a friendly man and seated right away. The only issue was a slight language barrier so I was unable to use my check-in offer from Yelp for a free dessert. I did mention it to him upon sitting,But it seemed he didn't quite understand what I was asking for. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it so I just skipped it. We are flex a tarians so we sometimes have a hard time finding somewhere that will accommodate our dietary choices. The Kastoori grill accommodated us very nicely. I decided to go with a meat plate tonight. I ordered the tandoori chicken. It came to me on a Sizzling hot platter. I couldn't believe how absolutely flavorful and juicy this chicken was! My husband had Vegetarian curry dish. Unfortunately, it's name escapes me at this time period it was very flavorful spicy and Delicious. By far, the homemade naan bread was the best naan bread I have ever had in my entire life and I crave it to this day. For lunch, I decided to go off the menu (and not the usually practical buffet) and try the Momo's steamed... Plated, they look just like steamed Chinese dumplings only with Indian dipping sauces and the filling is a mixture of different things like chicken and spices. Some of the outside was slightly torn so I figured they were a bit sticky. The red sauce is too hot for my taste, but the other sauce was more yummy and mild. The chai was nice and simple. Oh we loved this place! We weren't even looking to come here. It looks very unassuming and there are so many cool things to see around- I t's right outside of Pike Market. As we were walking by we were hit with a mouth watering smell and the aroma of lovely spices followed closely. We split the veg momo and the aloo bodi tama. There wasn't just one "star of the show" with this meal. The momo was soft and delicate, with a great flavor and the house aachar paired so well with them! The aloo bodi tama was filled with warming spices, lots of great veg, and it had a nice kick to it too! Everything was so well balanced and precisely what we needed. There are ample options of appetizers, both veg and non veg, to select from. They taste good. Detail review of the appetizer below: 1. Chat Papadi- The best thing was the freshness and crunchy ness of papadi. I personally would have loved more yoghurt and chutney in it(being a North Indian) 2. Chowmein- It was super delicious and will remind you of those street side chowmein that you get on Indo-Chinese carts 3. Vegetable Steamed Momos- The vegetable stuffing was precooked with spices and it tasted good. 4. Aloo ka achar- If you love potatoes then do try it. It was yumm! 5. True story. Very moved! My first time in Seattle and I was craving paneer. I also wanted to check out the Pike Market so I chose the Kastoori Grill since it's steps away. I called to confirm they had paneer in their buffet. I walked 30 minutes to get there only to see a sign that it was closed due to some water heater problem! I wasn't happy. I knocked to ask what was going on. The manager came out and explained the health department official is coming to inspect the heater in 30 minutes. When I told him I traveled far after speaking with someone at the restaurant less than an hour ago...he apologized and packed me lunch to go...free of charge for the inconvenience. And I didn't even ask! So I enjoyed REALLY good palak paneer (not spicy or heavy) on the waterfront with good cup of tea at a nearby cafe. It was way too much food and I didn't touch the naan and rice. I hate throwing away food so I wandered around to see if I could give it to a homeless person. And I ran into two guys who gleefully took it. So the restaurant ended up feeding 3 happy people. :-) You can trust food served by good people. Patronize them! read more
