We are for sure a fan of their food, and Clint is awesome on the hibachi table, always happy and makes us laugh! We like the pricing, too! The ONLY downfall of this place, is the wait staff and people that seat you. My husband and I have been coming here for several years and if they would just get some pleasant staff in place, more like Clint, they would be a 5 star restaurant! My boyfriend and I went here for all you can eat sushi on Thursday. There were about 4 or 5 tables in the entire restaurant, most of which were doing the all you can eat option. The waitress prefaced our experience with the fact there were only two sushi chefs so there was definitely going to be a wait. We sat down at 7:40 and ordered by 7:55. We received miso soup promptly. We did not get any other food until at least 8:45. Then we waited for the remaining parts of our order which the waitress eventually admitted had been given to another table by mistake. Keep in mind, we only had soup, an order of crab Rangoon, a single roll and two pieces of eel sashimi by 9:15. We asked if we could just pay and leave, we didn't want the rest of the order. The waitress said she felt bad and didn't want us to pay so she had to talk to a manager, which we did not want to pay $50 for less than $50 worth of food. She came back over with the bill and explained that they would let us take the food to go because they were already working on the remaining roll and three pieces of sashimi.. the bill was the full price. We paid and left and will not be back. They cannot support their all you can eat sushi crowd (all of 5 tables) and apparently do not care. The worst dining experience I've ever had. The only reason I give it a star is because the sushi quality wasn't bad and the waitress seemed sincere. read more

The sushi was meh, better priced elsewhere, but mediocre price with the groupon. This restaurant is definitely not a 4 star place, at the most 3 stars. Service wasn't great as far as making sure our meal came quickly or checking if we needed anything. What disappointed me MOST about the entire visit was that I ordered Chinese cuisine, and it did not taste at all what it was supposed to taste like. The chicken Lo mein was a complete disappointment. The chicken tasted rubbery, like the cheap chicken fast food places sometimes use, just disgusting. Had to throw all of the chicken out. This place is AWFUL!! The soup tasted like soapy water and wet wood. The food had way too much garlic and it over powered the actual flavor of the food. And the chef forgot to add shrimp to my order so I just had the 2 shrimp app and that's it. The service is down right horrible!! My family and I waited for an HOUR to get waited on and then waited another HOUR for them to even start cooking our food. We also had to ask them to get us drinks and other things multiple times. And on top of that the hostess/waitress had a bad attitude. They were too busy with the To Go orders - no wonder because their in house service is so terrible. My wife and I were excited to try Katana after friends recommended it. The sushi was very heavy (we suspect mayo or something akin) and not very good. The pad Thai I ordered was barely recognizable as pad Thai. There were rice noodles and peanuts, but that's about as close as it got. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I ate there yesterday for the first time. I got the crab rangoons and they were cold and came out way too fast for my liking. I had miso soup which was good and I don't believe this is a soup anyone could mess up. I also ordered 1 pc of sashimi tuna(which i never got), I ordered two specialty rolls. This place needs to clean their grease trap. The establishment stuck so bad I lost my appetite and couldn't eat my all you can eat sushi. I tried to grin and bear it because i was meeting up with a friend who was really excited to try some new sushi. Sorry Katana but I will not be recommending or coming back until you clean your establishment up. I love trying out a new place for sushi but I always check the condition of the fish in the display. It seemed fresh so we gave it a shot. The best...maybe not, but if you need a sushi fix without breaking the bank stop on in.The all-you-can-eat sushi is great! Even if your not a 100% sushi eater you can choose appetizers too and rolls. The knife work on some pieces were okay and some were hacked. Why should I complain the fish was fresh and the price was good. Sushi is meant to be a single bite that melts in your mouth but I noticed most Pittsburgh sushi consumers enjoy the hunk of fish on top. Katana at least made it in the middle. Not too much fish or too much rice. Service could've of been more attentive when it came to drinks. Seems like the servers like to socialize a little too much. I'm not afraid to interrupt their conversation if I need something but at least they were pleasant when I did. read more

I bought a groupon to try out this place. I went with two friends. We sat down and gave the waitress our groupon. We had to track her down to get our waters refilled even tho we were one of two tables in the whole place. They were out of a lot so we would order and then have her come back saying we couldn't have that many times. We ordered seconds to make sure we ordered enough to use the groupon. After we had spent $100 the waitress said we couldn't use the groupon bc we asked for separate checks. When we said we would do it together she said no bc someone had ordered all u can eat and that can't be on the same check. She sent a manager over that got really rude as said they won't accept them bc spmeone got a discount by ordering AYCE at the same table. The sever then said she never saw the coupon qe had on the table during the whole meal. The one that she talked to us about. I've worked in restaurants for years and never saw management or servers treat guests like this. I will meet go back there. read more

I've been a weekly regular since they opened years ago and have never had a problem with delivery till tonight. For whatever reason this weekend, their excuse was that they decided to do all you can eat sushi (which is usually just a Sunday through Thursday thing) and they didn't anticipate a crowd? It's Saturday night! It's always busy! So the results were it took over an hour and a half to get our food when it usually takes 20 min and when it finally arrived, they forgot half of the sushi order! I've been to other excellent sushi places where they will put as many chefs behind the sushi counter as necessary to keep up with demand... But not with katana. I've had dine in issues before at katana where they are slammed on a Wednesday and only have one guy to do all the sushi. Now it's affecting the weekend orders as well? Completely unacceptable for as place open as long as they have and really makes me feel like they are choosing profits over customer satisfaction. If you are going to offer all you can eat sushi for dine in, open up that pocket book and HIRE some more chefs! read more

Most horrifying, lamentable restaurant experience I have ever encountered! This was the first and only time I have eaten out by "myself" (and simultaneously the first and only time I have ever posted a review about a service/business). Unfortunately, the terrible experience that I received was so extremely significant and despondent, that I could not help but feel compelled to share my story. I would absolutely NOT recommend, nor could I do anything BUT warn others about this restaurant. I possibly could say that the FOOD might have been the ONLY thing that was acceptable or "okay" about the place, but then again my portions were so incredibly tiny that I couldn't be confident enough to comment on it specifically (my scarce sparse of a meal was due to my payment consisting of a GROUPON; I was told that "people like me" that use groupons prevent their restaurant from "making any money"). I do not want this to appear as a perfunctory review, although I'd like to make it as brief as possible but without being too cursory. Simply put, the manager of Katana presented an objectionable INSOLENT attitude towards me as I requested a change in my order. Her unnecessary behavior and words that she used (as a manager of a business) were outrageously disrespectful and frankly shocking. Some things included were, "while this may have been an mistake in communication when ordering, I can't help that my employees cannot speak your language (English), and I won't spend the time or money to have them be able to "understand" you people", and "If you say you "like" what you ordered but it wasn't actually the correct item, then you should just EAT IT THEN and there shouldn't be a problem". She made me feel terribly degraded and impertinent, not at all like a customer. Needless to say, my groupon "experience" was very unpleasant ,and I can no longer feel comfortable using the service because of this upsetting incident. I was mortified by her display of behavior and how she handled the situation.
