This tiny restaurant has amazing food, good service, and homemade pies. The biscuits are some of the best I've ever had which makes their biscuits and gravy delicious. Everything I've had there is delicious. It's just good, home cooked-style food. Now, the downside. It' pretty small. There are about 12 tables, though they somehow accomodate larger groups. You may have to wait for a table--but it is so worth it. During the summer and on the weekends its not unusual to see a line out the door. And if you want baked goods to take home, get there early. I think they're only open until 2pm anyway. In the winter it gets pretty cold inside, so make sure you wear layers. The parking lot is also sort of small, but there is other parking, and its right across from the river which is especially nice in the summer. But nothing bad about the food or service. I frequently make the trip down to Flat Rock early in the morning for the food and to take home a frozen pie or some cinnamon rolls. Prices aren't bad either, though I'd pay more for food this good. read more

(Denny's and Big Boy excepted) No way in the world is it so good that it's worth standing outside in line for an hour or more. It's OK, but not that much better than any other mom and pop. I am a breakfast person and Kate's Kitchen is by far the best place for breakfast. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. I can't wait to try their lunch. I've driven past this place so many times and decided to stop in. Just wanted a regular BLT sandwich - which is what I got....it was average. Had a piece of their Lemon Meringue pie - which was still warm....great filling and crust, but the meringue tasted eggy, like it wasn't done right.......could have just been me - anyways it was a decent priced diner.....the deserts looked awesome...and they have frozen pies as well.... We love Kate's kitchen, however today we are there and a couple things I noticed did not make me happy, our waitress had so long fake nails, although they were festive for Halloween, all I could think about was the bacteria under her nails, also the lady checking on the pies also had long nails. Please if you are in food service your nails should be short. The food was great though. read more

Finally found the line out the door short enough to take a chance. First time here, been hearing nothing but great things about Kate's. Waited about 25 minutes for a table, took our order immediately and then was served 26 minutes after that. My wife and I ordered omelets with Home Fries and a side of toast. (Bacon /cheese, Western). Toast was really thick and tasty. One jelly was provided for two slices. We both ordered coffee. We are coffee aficionados and have stayed at a hotel in Las Vegas just because of their coffee. Kate's coffee is not very good. I won't order coffee from there again. The omelets were only average tasting. The bacon on my omelet had the texture like it was cooked prior nd was reheated for the breakfast. So, not a fan of their bacon. The omelets are nothing to want to go back for again. But their home fries are THE BEST! I'd go back there and only order Home Fries and would be happy. Prices were on par with the local Coney Islands. In the future I may order one of their pies just to see how it tastes. But this visit was enough to satisfy our curiosity. We won't be back. read more

Went here with my sisters on our weekly brunch outing. Heard a lot of good things about Kate's Kitchen so we went to check it out for ourselves. My sister called ahead to see if they were open and what their wait was. The lady that answered couldn't tell us how long the wait was, but did say that it was a half hour then changed to she didn't know because it wasn't out the door. Alas, we went anyways. I ordered their biscuit and gravy with eggs and sugar ham along with a side of cinnamon toast. My one sister got the same with bacon instead of ham and the other sister got their chicken dumpling soup and chocolate chip pancakes and bacon. So, the eggs were cooked as expected. I enjoyed the potatoes. The biscuits were homemade but felt like they were reheated and didn't hold to the end of the meal (I prefer the biscuits and gravy at the end). My sister enjoyed them. As for the gravy, I was told that it was homemade, but it very much tasted canned. The bacon and ham were cooked perfectly and tasted yummy. My sister enjoyed the pancakes and they were definitely massive. It's not my kind of pancakes that I like but they had good flavor. The real winner was the cinnamon toast. We shared and order and it was amazing. What better than cinnamon sugar good toasted bread and icing. At the end of the day the service was good and the food ok. I'd definitely say there was a lot of hype to this place and we might go back if the lines weren't long. My one regret was not ordering pie which is something they are known for. read more

Never got to try the food because after driving there on my 15 minute coffee break and navigating they're dangerously narrow parking area I was told at the counter that they only accept cash. A fact I should have heard while ordering my carry out. In today's day and age I cannot support any business that is stuck in the stone age. The server asked what kind of bread for my sandwich, and I opted for rye. The sandwich was tasty, but I was surprised to see the bread was not toasted, and rather flimsy for sandwiches. I went to Kate's Kitchen for the first time last month, and I am now a biscuit believer. I tend to steer clear from most places biscuits as I grew up with traditional lard biscuits, but when I saw the ones coming out of the kitchen, I added one to my feta and spinach omlette. Their Biscuits and Gravy was DIVINE....and their homemade Rye bread was AMAZING!!! My friend and daughter ordered the Cinnamon Raisin French Toast and I was almost jealous, yes JEALOUS that I didn't order a side of that as well! Okay, I have heard about Kate's Kitchen for awhile now and three buddies and myself checked it out yesterday. I didn't think there would be much to brag about since it was breakfast but I can now say it was a great breakfast and I will be back. Everyone enjoyed the food. I ordered two eggs over easy perfect, ham delicious, biscuits and gravy outstanding and home fries. The home fries didn't look special but they were cooked correctly and tasted good. I just had water to drink. The price was $7.80 plus the tip. On the way out I grabbed a peach pie which was outstanding and one of my friends grabbed a mixed berry pie he said his family enjoyed that. I will be back and my friends will as well. read more

Excellent breakfast spot. The portions are hefty so be prepared to take home left overs. At least take home a piece of pie. The pie is worth the trip alone. Kate's has every type of pie imaginable. You can order pies for the holidays. This dining room is really small and compact. Be prepared for a wait on the weekends. A few criticisms: The staff is less than personable. They are very busy, running here and there. I'm sure that has something to do with it. There just isn't time for pleasantries. Another one is that they only take cash. They do have highchairs for the little ones and if you order your child pancakes, they shape them to look like Mickey Mouse. So, technically, they are kid friendly. That's where it stops. Any noise, happy or sad, your little one makes, carries throughout the dining room. I received more than one disapproving look from our waitress and the gal behind the counter. My son was excited to see Mickey Mouse on a plate and reacted happily. You would have thought his head was spinning around spewing pea soup every where. I was actually quite shocked at their reaction. Lastly, they are closed by early afternoon. I'd love the opportunity to pick up a pie for a gathering but who can get there before 3pm during the week?
