I came into Kate's Place looking for breakfast. As I was about to spend the entire day skiing, I was hoping for a very hearty meal, and the chorizo burrito seemed to fit the bill. Unfortunately, the burrito fell short of my expectations. Despite paying an egg surcharge, there was hardly any eggs in my burrito. Not only did this subtract from the nutritional value of my meal, but it also meant there was nothing to counter-balance the flavors of the burrito. Beyond the disappointing burrito, though, the grits were actually quite good.

KATES PLACE Mom and I were staying a night in Ridgeway and before going over to Ouray, decided to fuel up before heading over there and picked this breakfast place! Menu was not too big nor too small and we were able to quickly order with the staff who were quick with service! Mom and I both got the Corned Beef Hash and I got a cup of their soup of the day : Loaded Potato. FOOD The Corned beef hash were not like what I had before and looked pretty different (This is basically my go to breakfast dish at any place hehe) It was very hearty and had nice actual chunks of beef and potatos. The dish were not greasy at all. Not to mention the eggs were cooked perfectly to my liking "over easy" and the toasts were so delicious. Nicely buttered and were also to my liking in terms of how toasty/buttery it was!! Mom had a hard scrambled egg which were seasoned to perfection as well with white toast which were golden brown!! But the real star of the show was the their soup of the day! My looorrrr where do I even begin. Lets just say this soup better become their soup of the century. Chefs did an amazing job and this soup was really delicious and totally my type hehe. If you ever stop by and this is their soup of the day, def order it!!! Small place with the two nice ladies who served/hosted us, but were fast and friendly as the place started picking up more customers. And good cooks who serve you hearty and delicious meals. Almost felt like I was eating breakfast at a nice aunties place. Atmosphere felt very homey with colorful, but not overwhelming decorations and everything you would need at your table for functionality. FIVE STARS + WILL BE COMING BACK IF EVER BACK IN TOWN

Cozy atmosphere, attentive, fast, friendly service. They do offer to-go. I'm gluten free and loved that host, server and kitchen staff all were celiac aware. Delicious sides like home fries are GF. GF toast available. No GF waffles or pancakes but the breakfast skillet was hearty and so good. Others I was with had non-gluten free items and enjoyed them too.

We didn't feel like cooking as we were getting ready to head home. Headed to KATE'S place for an early breakfast. Pretty much only thing open this early. Wife had the omelet & I had biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs on top. We were not really impressed with the quality of the food. Very plain , but eatable. We stopped for breakfast one morning here while visiting Ouray. They have plenty indoor and outdoor seating. Our server was prompt and we were seated immediately. We got the waffle with berries as they were out of blue berry pancakes and the red mountain skillet both of them were delicious! Highly recommended.

The staff here was very lovely. It's got that small town cafe vibe. God bless small towns, the backbone of our grand country. However I was charged $6 for the 'thick' cut bacon. There's nothing thick about this bacon. Trust me, I know thicc. And my nesquik chocolate milk was $4. That's my only complaint. Blessings.

We stopped here on our way north to Fort Collins. We sat outside and although it was a busy Sunday morning, the staff was efficient without making you feel rushed. My companion had the Sneffles skillet- I don't know who Sneffles is or what they did to get a skillet names after them, but it looked, smelled and tasted delicious. I have been on a biscuits and gravy kick lately - I have learned from past errors though so if at all possible (which it was) I get a half order. That was what I did here at Kate's and it was very tasty indeed. Not sure when I will be rolling through Ridgeway again, but would definitely stop here again!

White cheddar grits. Try them! I've eaten here a few times and have enjoyed it all. It can get pretty busy at times, but the food is really good, and the art on the wall really add to the ambiance. The staff have always been friendly to us. At Easter, they even had a little basket of Jelly Belly beans for us to try. Give it a shot! read more

Definitely the place to eat! We stopped here by recommendation of friends who live in Telluride. We were there on a Friday morning around 11 am for breakfast and the place was packed. The staff was almost overwhelmed by people coming and going but we got table after about 15 minute wait (Actually, we found out that the best way to get a table is to take one as one was cleared as there was no hostess on around). The food we ordered was excellent..the service was fast and the atmosphere was great. read more

Everyone was so nice and it felt very homey! Brunch was perfect. Husband and I both got veggie omelettes that were delicious. Service was fast and friendly and helped us find our way to our next stop in gunnison since we didn't plan ahead and foolishly relied on our phones which didn't have service. My husband and I loved their breakfast and came back twice. While I had the potato skillet breakfast dish, my husband tried the huevos rancheros dish and the breakfast burrito and liked both. The same fantastic server from Colorado Boy waited on us here too! She's great! read more

If passing through Ridgway, this place is a must! Very friendly staff and a laid-back atmosphere. The food is very high quality. Eggs are light and fluffy, delicious sausage gravy over biscuits, ciabatta bread French toast (wow!), and life-changing white cheddar grits. Yum!!! read more

This place is really nice and quaint! The waitresses are really nice and helpful as well! I put in a complicated order. A waffle with 3 strips of bacon inside of it. Kate's accommodated my order and it was delicious!! I've gone back a few times since then. Keep it up Kate! read more

My husband and I recently got back from a week-long trip in Ouray. The locals raved about Kate's Place, so we decided to give it a try for lunch one day. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich with cheese, onions, and mushrooms and I ordered the kid's chicken quesadilla. You can't beat Kate's for breakfast or lunch! Hand's down the best breakfast sandwich (savory ham and swiss on a toasted multigrain bread) and breakfast burrito (veggie style or with chorizo). The service doesn't get more friendly. A great daily white board special brings you a range of creative dishes from breakfast enchiladas to one of the most creative chicken pot pies I've ever had. Go to Kate's the next time you are passing through Ridgway. My only complaint - it's not open for dinner! read more

I'm a foodie at heart and from back east, which makes me, hard to please. This little slice of heaven has some of the best food west of New York City. Not every restaurant knows that the best ingredients helps make the best food. But Kate's does. I don't normally ask the wait staff, if I can thank the cook, but I did. It's been three days since I got back to my home, and I still remember my wait person who took great care of us. Her name was Liesel. Great lasting impression. My tip, get here early. read more

Stayed in Ridgway for a family vacation and hit this spot up a couple of times before hitting the trails. Great service and the food was very good. The house corn beef hash and huevos rancheros hit the spot. Coffee was also solid. Might have to go back a third time before leaving and I am normally the type that likes to explore, not eat at the same place. read more

This cozy cafe is the most popular Brunch/Lunch spot in a wide area. I routinely drive more than 30min out of my way to eat here. Service is always friendly and this place is bursting with local flavor. Try the Buiscuits & Gravy or the Grits for breakfast! My favorite lunch is the asian salad. I've never had a meal that wasn't worthy of 5 stars here. Get there early - otherwise do wait, it's worth it! read more

Ate breakfast there this morning, the food is excellent as usual... service was terrible from a waitress that was inattentive and rude. Was supposed to get toast with my meal; did not come with the plate when served; waitress (server 002) said she would go put the order in; as I was finishing my meal, another server came to the table with the toast and asked if we had an order of toast (I told her no, not now, I was finished with my meal). I did not get a coffee refill until the waitress brought our check. When paying for the meal, I asked if the price of an order of toast could be removed from the bill... the clerk (our waitress) got extremely rude and said I had refused the toast and it was built into the price of the meal (I guess you cannot go to Kate's and order just a plate of toast?). Then she told me to forget a tip, that she did not want a tip from me. The waitress is responsible for seeing that the guest getting the food they order, all to be delivered to the guest at the same time. Pretty bad service! read more

Kate's Place is the best place to eat on the Western Slope! Great service, great food, great atmosphere! We just moved to town from an Urban local that has anything you want to eat any time you want to eat it...we were a little worried about moving and missing the diverse food choices we had available. But with Kate's always changing daily specials we have had delicious meals that compare if not beat what we are accustom to. I just met Kate today for the first time and she was a wonderful person and I'm proud to be a patron of her business. Her staff is also equally wonderful! With as much as we now frequent the restaurant (at least 3 times a week) both waitresses, Yvonne and Camy, have made us feel like family! With Kate's tasty cooking and attention to locally grown healthy ingredients, you can't go wrong eating here! read more

We were on a week long vacation through the San Juans and stayed in Ridgway for a couple of nights. We just happened to stumble upon Kate's the 2nd day we were there, which in retrospect is such a hugh disappointment in view of the fact that we missed the opportunity to eat there more! This place is FANTASTIC! I still joke that we should go back to Ridgway just to eat at Kate's. Hands down it's the best, freshest, and most delicious breakfast I have ever eaten anywhere. Kate's Place is a wonderful local destination for breakfast and lunch! The new menu is well thought out with OG dishes that they are known for with addition of new vegetarian and gluten free options that it needed. I had the Red Mountain Skillet and my partner had the Eggs Benedict Florentine. They were both amazing! The service attentive and prompt! Will definitely recommend Kate's Place if you are visiting the Ridgway / Ouray area! read more

A true classic in Ridgway. The spot is perfect year round-because when things get crazy in the summer they expand onto the patio. People have certain dishes they get over and over again-my favorite is the Rocky Mountain High omelet-I get a side of their awesome bacon too. Nice spot to get gift certificates for clients too. read more

We used to love this place! The food still tastes great, but over the last few years the Sneffels skillet portions have shrunk so much that I leave hungry every time. At the price point you pay it's just not worth it anymore. I had one skinny slice of avocado on my breakfast this morning and 6 pieces of cubed potatoes. read more

Seems most people here go for breakfast, but we tried the lunch menu and were very happy with it. The Reuben is fantastic, the paninis are tasty, the coffee is good and try the spiced cider! Our favorite thing: the home fries. Perfect for a cold afternoon. Next time, we'll hit up the breakfast. Thanks! read more

Best place to eat from Grand Junction to Telluride. If you're on your way thru town this is a must stop. Kate's place has fresh tasty food plus wonderful friendly service! I loved eating at Kate's Place. The french toast was delicious! My mom is a picky eater, and the waitress was able to accommodate her wants. I would definitely go back! I would like additional sides; however, I couldn't even finish my french toast so that's somewhat irrelevant. :) read more

I went to Kate's Place about half a week ago, and I love it! I ordered a waffle. I'm a tad picky, but the waitress and kitchen staff were able to accommodate my wants. I'd recommend it. The only thing I was bummed about was the fact that they had Pepsi and not Coca-cola. read more
