After our second visit to Kate's, I just can't get behind this restaurant with a good recommendation based on it's pricing, it's nothing-original food and the amount of food delivered for it. Ridgway was a nice town many years ago, but has been oversold and overdone to lure in the tourists. The noise level when we entered (it's a small converted space) was just too much to bear and sent us running for the patio for a few moments of quietude. Don't sit inside if you value some peace with your meal (this was 8 AM). Hence, charging eleven dollars for eggs with some ham, one piece of toast, some unripened fruit; nine dollars for three pancakes (no matter how you "dress them up") is just beyond the workingman's/workingwoman's wages on the western slope of Colorado (we are locals, within 60 miles of the town). Two fifty for a cup of coffee? A cup of coffee? If you want to gouge the one-time tourists; remember that you are gouging the people who would come back time after time as well. Sorry, this is our last trip to eat in Ridgway; can't afford "Quaint" any longer. Thirty five dollars (I couldn't deny a working waitress a decent tip) for breakfast is just too much money out of pocket for regular folks like us. From now on we'll eat in Delta or Montrose before we take our motorcycle rides down south towards Durango. Not being mean, just letting folks who aren't overly wealthy know how it'll be before they commit to a seat in an unknown eatery. read more

Good breakfast - we will definitely return. One word of caution, watch the incidental charges, we ordered an extra side of toast and received one small 4"x2" piece. The price for that little piece of bread was $1.75 and when I asked the waitress about this she was a little flustered and tried to explain that the cook decides what determines a side of toast (could be one or two pieces?). We used to live in the area so I know it is a common practice for some (not all) locals to charge more for visitors - and wondered if this is what happened. Best Breakfast in Ridgway!!! Ate there twice this weekend while there from Texas. Wish we had places like this around us.

Had a great lunch here. I had the Roast Beef Sandwich with chipotle au jus which was awesome and loaded with tons of Roast Beef. The bread was really good and the sauce amazing. My buddy had the Reuben and said it was great too. Staff was very nice (and attractive too, just a little added bonus). The great reviews led us here & what a great find it is! We stop here for breakfast on our way to Telluride. *Everything* on the menu is delicious! Grits are a rare find, in CO & theirs are made with white cheddar - yum! My only complaint is that the word is obviously out about this place- there is usually a line & it's a small place, so the people waiting are standing closeby & watch you eat - a little awkward. Just may have been the best breakfast of my life! Rocky Mountain Special omelet (ham, cheese, chiles) was amazing, as were the home fries. Managed to sneak more than a few bites of my child's pancakes, which were perfect. We did have to wait about 20 min to be seated (9 am on Sunday morning) but could have been worse. We've been coming to Kate's for years, usually during an annual autumn trip to the region. A year has passed since our last visit and we couldn't help but notice things starting to slide into mediocrity. We really like this place, so we're disappointed in what we see and experience now. The food is still really good, as is the service (depending who waits on you). However, its looking rather shabby now: dirty, worn, sticky floors, everything is beat up and kind of filthy, gross bussing bins, dirty windows & blinds, sticky menus, grungy pavement, black smudges on all the doors and the bathroom was like a gas station's with an unused, half full and broken soap dispenser, dirty floors, etc.... the more you look, the more you see. I think the owners, employees and regular customers just don't see those things slowly change for the worse over time, but if you visit only once a year, it becomes obvious. Please - time for a major deep cleaning!! read more

Once you eat here it's easy to see why the ratings are so great! We decided to eat here as it was close to our camp at Ridgway State Park after not wanting to deal with crowds in Ouray and looking for a place the kids would enjoy as well. The food was exquisite and the staff incredibly nice and attentive even during a busy lunch hour. Pancakes for lunch? Yes please! So glad we planned ahead to eat here instead of scrambling at the last minute. read more

My daughters and I spent the night in Ouray and was looking for a great breakfast place the next morning. We were refered to Kate's in Ridgeway and would have never found it on our own since it's off the beaten path. What a complete delight. The jams and jellies are homemade - thick french toast. I could not get enough of this adorable restaurant. I wish it was in Durango so I could go more often. Definetly worth the stop - if you're in the area. read more
