This was the by far the worst meal I have ever eaten in my life. I got the chicken Tikka Marsala. It was bone in (not described as that in the menu). The chicken was the driest I have ever had in my life. There was no taste to it. I got extremely nauseous after two pieces and ended up throwing away 30 dollars worth of food. Kathmandu Kitchen is a reliably tasty Indian restaurant. The lunch buffet has a limited variety and its interpretations on staple dishes are certainly unique compared to other, larger Indian restaurants. That being said, it is perhaps the best value in its category that I've ever come across. Delicious, well-stocked, flavorful, and cheap--what more can you ask for? The dinner menu and its tastescape is more conventional compared to other Indian restaurants. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate and, while it clearly gets its fair share of customers, I've never seen it too crowded. I'm thankful to have such a solid, wholesome Indian joint so close to where I live and in a city center. read more

Today I ordered the tandoori chicken and lamb biryani. The chicken was unbelievably dry. The biryani was dry. We specifically requested extra hot biryani. There was literally no heat. It was just mild. The food was just okay. It wasnt really bad, but it wasnt the best either. The delivery driver had horrible customer service skills. The driver wanted me to walk to him to get my food. When I wouldnt, the driver arrived at my door unfriendly and somewhat rude. This was my first time trying this restaurant. Very disappointed with this restaurant. We went on a Tuesday night using a groupon. One table of 10 for a kids birthday party. And 4 other customers were there including a lady having a ridiculously loud speaker phone conversation for almost 10 minutes when we arrived. We stood at the counter and waited quite a while to be greeted and finally seated. Another 10 minutes to order. We ordered soup with medium spice to it. It was almost too spicy to eat and we normally enjoy spicy, but it was tasty. So we asked for mild spice for our entrees and the came out with no spice and quite bland. We have been here many times for what was their reasonably-priced buffet. The food was okay, pretty good, but the price was affordable for what you got. Recently, they have increased their prices by 20-30%, depending on the day, and it is not worth it for the quality of food. If I'm going to spend $11.99 for Saturday lunch, I can go somewhere else with better food. So what was a four-star review, was taken down one star for the price increase and another minus star for the dirty dishes that sat on our table for the entire meal and no water refills. I am really surprised about this restaurant's good reviews. My wife and I tried it just for this sole reason. We decided to go on a date and rather than taking her to our usual favorite Café Spice just around the corner, I insisted in trying something new. I googled some info first and found learned that people really recommended their soup. The restaurant also suggested bringing your own wine, which we did. As we walked into the place, we looked at each other as if we were already making a mistake. The place was empty on a Saturday evening past seven o'clock. We got a table and a host handed me a corkscrew and 2 glasses rather than courteously opening the bottle for us. My wife looked at me at that point and told me that we still had an opportunity to leave. I insisted to give it a try. Our waitress approached our table and my wife asked her excitedly about their reportedly great soup. "what soup?' she responded. At that moment I realized we had gotten a very rough on the edges young lady with bad English and terrible people skills. We decided to order quickly and get done with the experience. My wife is vegetarian, reason why she loves Indian Cuisine. She ordered some samosas, which turned out greasy and tasteless. I decided to order on the safe side and got something based on chicken. I am still convinced I did not get chicken. It was grey and chewy and I had to have a gulp of wine with every bite in order to eat it. An overall terrible experience. We've enjoyed the food here for some time, but we are fed up with the delivery service. They consistently pull up to the curb and call from the car and tell me to come get the order. We thought it would just be the one time, since they were already running very late- but it has happened every time since. We already tip high, so I tried over tipping, and there was not improvement. Horrible customer service! I love Indian food and wanted to check out this restaurant. Called around 9 pm and asked if I could do delivery and a guy named Dinesh said yes. He proceeded to take down my order (3 items) and then told me it's too late to deliver. WHATTTT??? Why did you take my order down then? Does that even make any sense? I have ordered from this establishment twice. On both occasions I opted for delivery, my food was on time for both of the orders. The food is not so great. For some strange reason they seem to specialize in dry almost stale dishes. The first time I order the Lamb Biryani which was edible but dry and my mother had the chicken curry which was kind flat, I can make better chicken curry than them. I figured I ordered my 1st meal on a bad day or something so I gave them another try. The second time around I ordered the Boti Kabab which was really dry and tough. We tried Kathmandu Kitchen on the basis of a rec by one of our Bengali friends. The strengths. The chicken momos were the best momos I'd ever had. The filling was well spiced. The wrappers were clearly handmade. And the sauce brought everything together. The so-so: The shish kebab was also well spiced and flavorful but dry. I purchased a groupon for this resturant and decided to go out on Sunday night with two of my friends to have what I thought would be great food. Everything was great in the beginning we were immediately greeted, seated and asked what we would like to order. We order the meat simosas, naan, lamb Biryani, chicken biryani and shrimp saag. The order took almost an hour to arrive to the table and tasted okay. When it came time to pay the bill we presented the groupon and given the remaining balance. While discussing between the three of us the method of payment we were going to use. A short female employee came over harassing us that she wanted the payment now! To end the perfect night when we arrived home about a hour later we began vomitting all our recent meal into the toilet. Long time customer here, so the food isn't what I'm writing about. I actually think the food is pretty good. Everyone I've ordered with has always thought the food to be pretty good actually. What I'm writing about, and what has lost my business forever is the service delivered by a delivery driver and subsequently by the staff on site. We ordered delivery when it was raining out, the driver calls and asks me to come to his car under a deck in socks so he doesn't have to come up the stairs to the doorstep in the drizzling rain (this is your job remind you), and then when he gets up, he proceeds to lie about the total. When we asked him what the total was he says '39 or something, about 40' netting him an extra 10$ tip, and the real total...? $35. We called the store and the employee seemed very apologetic, although offering no solution (we wanted him to drive his butt back here). The employee said she would give us credit for next time and would save our name and number. Did they save the name and number? No. Called back the next day to ask. Great local ethnic restaurant. It s not pretentious. My only complaint would be that the buffet is toned down to "mild" spice, as I guess it must be for those not familiar with the food.
