This is a neat little place in dorado, and the service was great. Honestly, the only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it didn't feel like a local hangout. It seemed that all of the patrons were tourists. My favorite places to eat in Puerto Rico were local (non-touristy). This was a recommendation from our hotel. It was a quick 10 min cab ride from where we were stayed if in dorado. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from in the area, we went with Katrina's because of the extensive menu and that they had a live parrot. I guess things are a bit more quiet on Sunday evenings, because we didn't get to see the parrot! Very disappointed. My friend and I started with empanadas. One chicken, one beef. These are a must get- the meat filling was well seasoned and juicy. The pastry was puffy and crisp. For entrees we both had the churrasco steak and sides of mixed rice. My steak also came with shrimps in garlic sauce. The steak was very tender and cooked well. It just came out lukewarm, which for how slow service was this was annoying. The mixed rice is bomb.com!! Great spot within walking distance to the beach. A good variety of food. Arrived with friends who were visiting the island for the first time along with their child. Lots of seating to choose from, different food options and even their cafe latte was delish! Ordered the Chilló fried fish, fried nugget fish w/mofongo (sweet plantain and yuca!). Generous size for the cost. Bathroom was good and parking available if you get there during slow hours(golden hour! 2-3:30pm). We went with our 2 children. While they were very friendly when we walked in, it took over 1.5 hours to get our food, and it was not busy. The explanation given was that they ran out of rice. Rather than bringing us our other food(fish, mufongo, shrimp, empanada), they made us wait. When we finally got it, our kids were starving and we ate some of it, but the food was ice cold. We did not complete our meals. They had seemed very apologetic, but presented us with the full bill. When we asked the manager, she said she could have done something earlier and changed our order. Obviously, we had two hungry kids, and could not have waited MORE time to eat what little we did. She refused to address the bill. We sat for almost 2 hours, ate in less than 10 min, for over $100. I'm surprised this restaurant is top 5 in Dorado. The food is bland, the prices are ridiculous, $30 for a 10oz skirt steak... what?! My wife asked for a mofongo with octopus which was listed as $21 and she added shrimp, when the ticket came back they charged us $11 bucks for literally 3 shrimps. We went here for our first dinner on the island, all slightly tired from our early morning flight and little sleep the night before. Mofongo was on my mind and I had infected my family as well. The front desk guy recommended this place for Mofongo, and so we went. We each ordered a variation (octopus, seafood, and one with crab) and all chose the creole sauce based on our front desk guy's recommendation. None of us had tried it before (but we did watch guy fiori's (diners drive ins and dives fame) video discovery of the dish. Long story short - we all liked our meals, tho the crab mofongo was over salted. Hubby, who ate his entire filling dish, apparently loved his. I don't know Puerto Rican food well enough to know how good this mofongo was - it did not have much mixed into it, but had plenty of sauce and seafood/octopus overtop. The octopus was very tender and fresh tasting. The leftovers also tasted great the next day for breakfast. Decor is very casual, outdoor patio-ish with a giant rainbow-striped, live parrot to lend to the tropical theme. Lots of families dine here. read more

After hurricane Maria the menu was limited but they still wowed me and my boyfriend. We had empanadilla de carne and empanadilla de pollo for appetizer along with a cup of octopus . For main entree we had mofongo de yuca con camarones and mofongo de amarillos con pollo. Everything was absolutely amazing! Very relaxed and portions were great. Set your clock to island time before you go here. The food is classic creole, there were other tourists, but not exclusively, or even predominantly. I had the skirt steak with mofongo and garlic butter. Honestly, the mofongo was a decent vehicle for sopping up the sauce, but I haven't been won over. It's like super dense mashed potato and it lacks any flavor of its own. My husband had the whole red snapper with shrimp in creole sauce. He was very happy. The skin was crisp and the shrimp was perfectly done. One of my sons had a different preparation of the skirt steak and he enjoyed it. For me, it's been a problem how over air conditioned the u.s. chain restaurants are. This place has a roof, but no walls, and the island breeze keeps you cool. On our way back from visiting family, we stopped at this nice tropical place. A smooth cool breeze from the ocean and great company was highlighted by the great and quick service topped off by awesome food. The octopus as well as the conch in their respective salads were fresh, tasty and tender and we paired them with fresh tostones and their signature mamposteao rice (rice with beans, churrasco and bits of sweet plantains)- One word; Succulent. I got there about 5:30. There are three tables occupied. I see two waiters, one about 60 the other in his mid 20's. I make eye contact with both of them; they look away. At one point they both go behind the bar, talk to each other, point at my table, and come back out to the floor clearing off tables. No one comes over with menus, water, or a hello. I know I'm in Puerto Rico and that things tend to be slow so I just sat patiently. About 15 minutes pass and I see a couple of waitresses behind the bar. I make eye contact and they look away. One waitress walks away; the other starts picking up her hair, puts it in a ponytail and walks away. Twenty-five minutes in I see another waitress walk in from the street she puts her stuff away and throws on an apron. She talks to the two original waiters, they point at my table, and she rushes over. She asks me how long I've been waiting and when I tell her thirty minutes she starts sincerely apologizing for her coworkers. Linda, the new waitress was very professional and attentive. She should be commended and I tipped her nicely to show my appreciation and to extend my middle finger to her lazy coworkers. We ordered a rice dish, mamposteo, and pork chunks. The pork chunks were extremely over cooked and dry. The rice was salty and overly seasoned. To be fair maybe the management or owners were not present and hopefully they can use my post to correct and retrain their staff. My experience was horrible and I would never go back to that restaurant unless they make changes. read more

Excelent service, fresh fish and ingredients! The Katrina rice has the most delicious flavors and the fish nuggets are everything! Katrina's - Birds are entertaining - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Dorado, Puerto Rico

As you can see in my profile, i rarely write reviews. However, in the case of Katrina's in Dorado, I have found inspiration. We went there tonight with friends who we have been dining out with for years. Simply stated, it is among the worst dining experiences i have ever had. At the recommendation of our waitress, zuleika, 3 of us ordered the dorado (Mahi-Mahi). The rest ordered Mofongo with shrimp and mofongo with octopus. It took nearly 1 hour and twenty minutes to receive our food even though the restaurant was not very crowded.. When we did, we utterly disappointed. The dorado was a thin filet bathed in sauce which wasn't bad. However, the fish itself was over cooked, rubbery and fishy tasting. I fish quite a bit and it was obvious that this fish was far from fresh. The mofongo, a Puerto Rican that is hard to mess up, was flavorless and disappointing. The octopus, in keeping with the theme of the night, was overcooked and flavorless. I alerted our waitress, who was good and was not remotely at fault. I told her that she should alert the owner because, as a business owner as well, I would want to know if I had a customer that had such a negative experience. She was sympathetic and said she would alert the manager. I assumed the manager would come out and see what was wrong. Instead, our waitress reluctantly came out and said they were going to take 10% off the bill. I found this to be an insult and our waitress was obviously embarrassed. After assuring her that she did a good job and it was not her fault, we proceeded to pay for one of the worst meals we ever had. To add insult to injury, they even charged us for a side order of tostones we never received. The only thing that would make this experience worse would be if i get sick from the fish.
