What can I say, we tried the omakase... Chef Ken and staff are amazing! This Japanese dining experience was outstanding! Squid tempura, sushi - Oishi! Can't wait to go back to try the Foie Gras Shabu Shabu.

Can we just order from the open hand rolls? My boyfriend and I loved their open hand rolls and see heartbroken when we found out they closed. Been craving them for months!!! Looking for a friend.

You can get open hand rolls at the Woodkandhills location in Westfield mall. Topanga and Erwin next to REI

    How much is the omakase?

We did the omakase in addition to some "starters" and separate sushi and all of it was high quality and super tasty!

How does one determine that a Japanese restaurant is fantastic? First you start with the ambience, then you start with a selection of the menu, then you look at the presentation of each plate and dish and the creative reiteration of that dish. At Taisho which is located in the heart of the Valley in Sherman Oaks, is a wonderful restaurant with great creativity and presentation and ambience... And it hits all the marks of a truly wonderful Japanese restaurant. This restaurant is so good that even living in Orange County, what desires to go back into the valley, which is quite a jaunt. We occasionally go to the valley for family and friends and events... And from now on, we will be stopping by this wonderful Japanese restaurant. I'm going to post some pictures and let the pictures speak for themselves. If you're ever in the valley, you gotta make this one of your stops.

Long story short, my wife was starting to sweat so she wanted to be inside with some A/C. So far, so good. Our waiter was so awesome, but it was his first day, so understandably, he made a couple of very minor mistakes that were easily fixed. He brought out a dish we did not order (which he swapped for the correct one) and he forgot to bring the cocktail that my wife ordered. Again, no big deal. Now... the food. If you are looking for a sushi restaurant, this is not for you. They do have some sushi, but it is very limited, and frankly the options they did have were wildly overpriced. Selling salmon sashimi for $40 is a huge ask. As for the atmosphere, it's a pretty sharp looking space, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but they leave all the windows and doors open at all times, so if it's a warm evening, you're going to be hot even if you sit outside. Also, the music gets progressively louder as nightfall progresses, so it can be tough to have a conversation without shouting. Bottom line, if you're looking for a good sushi spot, there are half a dozen other places within walking distance that are, in my opinion, much better. If you're looking for a wider variety of Japanese cuisine, and have a few hundred extra dollars lying around, then go ahead and give Taisho a try.

The soup here is absolutely incredible. The 3K Seafood Miso Ramen (spicy ) has become my ultimate comfort food. To be honest, I barely ever try the sushi because the ramen became my favorite from the very beginning, and I always end up coming back just for it. There's seriously some kind of secret ingredient in it that gets people addicted. I also love the shishito peppers, the garlic spicy edamame, and their lava cake. I've tried the sushi a few times and it was good, but for me the real standout will always be the ramen. I come here almost every week or every other week and still never get tired of it. This is already my third year in a row coming here consistently -- there honestly hasn't been a single month where I haven't visited at least once. If you're looking for a luxury or trendy restaurant, this is probably not the place. The restaurant feels simple and casual, but the food is what keeps people coming back. The staff is always very kind as well. One small suggestion: the garlic edamame is amazing, but the garlic smell stays on your hands forever They used to provide gloves when we asked for them, but recently they haven't had them available anymore. I really hope they bring that back.

The ambiance was nice - definitely didn't feel like I was in Studio City! Started off strong with the 5 mushroom miso soup and shishito peppers. When they say 5 mushroom, they mean all the mushrooms! It's probably one of my favorite soups of all time - so much umami! I will say, it's very filling. The shishito peppers were tasty as well. Also got the halibut carpaccio, the double shrimp toast, and the Marlon roll. The halibut carpaccio was the star - so delicate and melt in your mouth, and the yuzu sauce and pink peppercorn were the perfect accompaniment. The Marlon roll was very good as well - would have liked a little crunch with some cucumber in there. Needed a little more texture. The double shrimp toast was good, but I will say the toast was not so much crispy as it was soggy. It was good, but not my favorite. Service was good - our server gave a good recommendation and checked in on us. Definitely want to come back for more items on the menu!

We ordered Sugarfish delivery and it was amazing. It's not the exact restaurant experience but the fish was very fresh and the box presentation was really nice. I love the rice - it is lightly packed and delicious - it even arrived fairly warm (one difference between restaurant and delivery - rice is not hot). So many places have what I call heavy rice - densely packed and cold. You choose from a set box but you can make some substitutions if they have the fish available. When we want sushi delivery, this will be our go to.

It meets all the checkmarks you'd look for in a nice restaurant in terms of environment, service and food. Ambience is romantic. Dim lights, fake candles, and carefully monitored air conditioning to ensure the quality of the food is enjoyable from the moment it leaves the kitchen until you eat. Service was professional and each waiter has an appropriate number of tables assigned to make sure each customer feels like they're being cared for. Price is very affordable for an omakase, and considering what you're getting, the price seems justified. Having had a few omakase experiences prior to Sugarfish, I have to say this was an underwhelming experience. I came because of its reputations amongst my friends and acquaintances. Unfortunately, it did not have the creativity and innovation I was looking for in an omakase. Usually, I'd see chefs take more risk by showing off a new combination of ingredients. Instead, it looked like the price of the omakase was just the price of each dish you could get at any other sushi restaurant. I'm talking a few slices of sashimi, a hand roll and some nigiri. Reiterating - highly recommended for people new to sushi. Minimal decision fatigue and you get to taste a variety of plates. You can order the plates of the dishes you like someplace else.

It is a pretty small place and not loud which we enjoyed. Our server was sweet and attentive. Each item was carefully curated so that it highlights the fish and brings out the best flavors. Our chef was very nice and had great recommendations. He recommended the tuna cheek and it ended up being our favorite the entire night. The cuts were very fresh, buttery, and melts in your mouth. They also have A5 wagyu. Overall amazing. It is pretty pricey but theres a reason for it. It's high quality, well curated pieces and made fresh. The only issue I had was the chopsticks. I was expecting a better one. It had a lot of rough uneven edges and very splintery. I got a splinter on my hand but thankfully not in my mouth but i was very careful the rest of the ni as I could feel the wood pieces.
