Honestly one of the best takeout sushi experiences I've had in a while. Katsu-Ya packaged everything really well and the fish quality was obvious immediately. Super fresh cuts, beautiful presentation, and everything still tasted restaurant quality by the time we got home. I ordered toro belly, yellowtail, albacore nigiri, a yellowtail crudo-style appetizer with crispy onions on top, spicy tuna on crispy rice, miso soup, and a salmon bowl. The toro was rich and buttery, the yellowtail was insanely fresh, and the albacore had that clean melt-in-your-mouth texture I always look for. Also, the spicy tuna on crispy rice was fire. That's one of those dishes I order almost everywhere and this version was definitely one of the better ones I've had. Perfect crunch and really flavorful tuna mixture. I've loyally have ordered from the place for the longest time. The last 3 times I've ordered they have messed up my order so bad that I can't even eat it due to food allergies. Tonight was the last straw. I waited an hour and a half for my dinner to arrive and when I get it they have it wrapped in soy paper. I did not request soy paper. I'm super allergic to soy. They took it upon themselves to modify the order of even though I didn't ask. I'm starving. Instead of sending something new or providing any type of apology they ask that I come pick up the food from them to make sure it's done correctly. How rude. You're adding modifications I did not ask for. I've triple checked all my orders and they just make whatever they want. read more

Sit at Ken's bar. Have him make you some Hotate jumbo scallops topped with Uni. His Uni Hotate Sushi is the best I have ever experienced both Uni and Hotate. I'm sure Uni disciples look for an unadulterated Uni, but I will argue that the savoriness of the uni coupled with the delicate mildness is the jumbo scallop is one of the most seductive flavor juxtaposition you will experience. Overall service 10-stars! You are greeted warmly by ALL employees. Everyone wore crisp clean professional uniforms. They spoke with a smile and in a warm, friendly, and informative manner. My glass was always full. Ken is a perfectionist so I hope you're not in a hurry. The restaurant was kept clean and had a modern minimalist feel. Most importantly the place smelled clean! It lacked the smell of dirty fish rags, a smell I hate sticking to my hair or clothes. There's valet parking but I found street parking easily. Good food. Great service. Yes, Studio City has lots of sushi bars, but Washoku is different. They offer four omakase menus starting at $28 (if you are one of the first 6 people to request it), as well as an ala carte selection of sushi and cooked dishes. We opted for the $28 omakase and had two small appetizers, miso soup, salad, sashimi, a small portion of cooked steak, chicken or salmon, sushi, and dessert. Every dish was delicious, with the exception of the chicken, which was overcooked and chewy. We also tried the shrimp-stuffed shishito peppers--excellent. The restaurant offers a good selection of beer and sake. The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely dine here again. read more

We visited Washoku after reading amazing reviews on Yelp. Our experience was far from what everyone described. We ordered omakase $98 meal. They told us it will take around two hours to complete. We ended up sitting at the table for 3 hours and 15 min. Finally cut the last dish and dessert short and asked for the check. In between each dish, we waited for about 15 to 20 min for the next entree to arrive. Next comes to the quality of the food. There wasn't one dish that stood out. Fish was not cut right. Didn't taste fresh. Rice was undercooked. The water used for shabu shabu tasted like water. Lastly service was slow. In addition, we had to ask two to three times for either beer or water. At the beginning of the meal, the waitress asked if there are certain fish we don't want in our meal. Two of my friends said no mackerel. Guess what came in the sushi platter? Mackerel! This evening couldn't get any worse. I hate to be the one posting bad reviews. But I think this is the only way a restaurant can improve. read more

The Best Value I've ever paid for and the Best Service I've ever experienced! Their omakase menu is very creative and refreshing. It's not a typical sushi omakase. Washoku focuses a lot on various appetizers, shabu shabu, sushi, and dessert, with most emphasis on appetizers in my opinion. They really go next level to make it more than just sushi alone. Normally, the sushi omakase I have are $200-300 per person. This was the first time I felt I was underpaying because I legit thought it deserved to be a $150 meal. Please do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the $98 Chef's Surprise omakase! It's a steal! As someone who's been to many Michelin restaurants, I can confidently say that the team here gave me the most satisfying dining experience ever. You could tell every one of them loved being there and actually cared about their customers. My wife and I are new to the area and have a lot of places to check out, but we will surely be regulars here. read more

Just came back from the best sushi meal of my life here. The fish was outstanding. The service was perfect; these people are genuine and you can tell they truly love their craft. For the quality and overall experience, the price was more than worth it. I am beyond impressed and will absolutely be back. This gives you the feel of a true Japanese experience. The service, decor, traditions, and quality. For reference: we had their miso soup and stuck with just nigiri. Can't remember everything we had but included toro, halibut, albacore, yellowtail, salmon, Japanese trout, and several others. All were 100% the best of that kind of fish we have ever had. read more

We were big fans of Quick by Katsu-ya and extremely sad to see the short lived concept/restaurant go. We loved the staff and the sushi AND the prices. So it was with some hesitancy that we tried Washoku of LA tonight. The replacement! I'm happy to report it was an AMAZING experience, albeit, much more expensive one! The new decor, the music, the staff... and WOW the sushi was all OUT OF THIS WORLD! We did the omakase in addition to some "starters" and separate sushi and all of it was high quality and super tasty! The staff was friendly, attentive, helpful, and made the whole experience better. I look forward to going again and highly recommend this "replacement" to one of our favorite sushi joints! If Quick had to go, I'm glad this is the kind of quality and experience that replaced it! read more

These jerks cancelled a $150 order because of special instructions. Didn't cook dinner because kids were expecting sushi. The "special instruction" we requested?: that they cut the California roll instead of do a handroll. Called and spoke to someone at location. Asked if they don't have a knife with which to cut sushi. She explained ridiculous policy for re: "special requests." Rude and unprofessional. read more

We picked this place based on 3 reviews (in the past 8 days), all 5 star - indicating this place is new, so it wouldn't be crowded and we wouldn't be in the cattle call of the many sushi bars already in the area. This " 5 Star #4" is heartfelt. We occupied 4 of the 6 seats at the sushi bar and had wonderful communication with Ken, our chef. The service was 5 star, the food was 5 star and the wait was 0. Beyond being trilled with all of the above - what was so refreshing ~ Rather than the typical laundry list of been-the-done-that commercialized rolls and wraps, this place is pared down to what a sushi restaurant should be, fresh, minimal and authentic. Don't come here for sushi. There are no rolls. There are only very small sushi pieces that give you a small bite of food per piece that isn't that impressive. If I'm spending a lot of money for one bite of food, there should be some sort of a flavor explosion or something amazing about it and there just wasn't. The sushi of course was also overpriced, and we left still hungry. The restaurant is also a lot smaller than it looks in the photos and there is nowhere comfortable to wait for your table if they are running late as they were when I arrived. read more

We love sushi and Japanese cuisine and tend to be a little more critical. With that being said, this place is amazing. Lots of flavors, amazing service ( Tally), amazing Pairings, fresh fish, new experience. So good! I've never had omikase with blowfish before so we did that and a chef surprise omikase. It was paired with an experience and not necessarily a sushi experience. They have a shabu & sushi experience. Saw a photo of the chef with the sashimi lunch on @LAeats and decided to give it a try since it's close to my home. Was very excited to try this sashimi but I found the lunch special underwhelming. The sashimi cuts are probably the thinnest I've had at any Japanese restaurant , especially compared to the photo I saw on LAeats. In general, I feel that if a cut of fish can be bent onto itself then it's probably too thin. I included a photo but I don't think it's does it justice to show the thinness. In regards to quality, the fish was pretty fresh though. What I really loved about the restaurant was the service. It had some of the best service I've had in many years. All the staff and waitresses were extremely pleasant. Would I come here again? The fish was good but I left very hungry afterwards, so probably not. I hope their a la carte sashimi comes in better cuts. read more

Amazing food at an incredible value. I had the $48 omakase which came with an insane amount of food. Artful appetizers, then sashimi, then shabu shabu with wagyu beef, then nigiri, then a special Japanese style "risotto" which incorporated egg, rice and the broth from the shabu shabu boiling water pot (more of a soup than a risotto IMO), ending with a yuzu panna cotta dessert, a real journey of a meal. And the service was truly impeccable. Not only was everyone super friendly but also incredibly helpful. Immaculately attentive and pleasant group of people from the servers to the sushi chefs to the kitchen chef and staff. Definitely coming back. This place used to be "quick by Katsu-Ya". Even though I liked quick a lot I think Washoku is even better. The food is different compared to quick but a better different if that makes sense. The space isn't too big so I would recommend making a reservation. The dishes are all very interesting and delicious. The sushi and sashimi was very fresh and high quality. Even the way the served blowfish was different from other places I've tried. My wife got the $68 omakase, I got the $98 omakase. We both thought that the prices were very fair for the amount and quality of food we got. The omakase also included shabu shabu which was good but I preferred the sushi more. The staff was friendly & attentive. The chef also brought out some of the dishes to explain them to us. Also our waitress was very friendly / interactive with my son which he enjoyed.
