How have I walked past this place for 20+ years?! I've been eating sushi in Studio City for over two decades and somehow always overlooked Studio Sushi. I usually park on the side street near the studios, and between valet-only spots and impossible meter parking on Ventura, I never gave it much thought until now. I was headed to one of my usual sushi spots on a Friday night, but it was packed. No reservation, long wait, so I turned back toward my car and decided to check Yelp for Studio Sushi. The reviews were solid, so I went in and I'm so glad I did. The place is small but charming. Even though they were busy, I was seated immediately at the bar. Service was on point from the start water, beer, and appetizer suggestions right away. I ordered baked mussels, crispy rice with spicy tuna, albacore sushi with crispy onions and their most popular roll, the CBS roll. Everything was great, but the CBS roll was the star. The flavor was impeccable, the albacore was a huge bonus and whatever sauce they use is next-level. The albacore sushi practically melted in my mouth. Crispy rice was fried perfectly just very filling and the mussels were baked just right. What really stood out besides the food was the service. Constant water refills, checking in about drinks, attentive without being overbearing. Also they're open for lunch, which is rare these days for sushi restaurants on Ventura post-COVID. Was not expecting much since it's not located on Ventura Blvd and is more in a neighborhood. They have a small parking lot and then neighborhood parking lot which is a pain. First time at Studio Sushi, which was busy but not crazily so on Saturday night. We'd made a reservation for the sushi bar, and were seated immediately with a very welcoming and friendly chef. The restaurant itself is roomy and comfortable, with a decor that falls smack dab in the middle of "traditional sushi bar furnishings," but it's clean and sleek, and gets you immediately in the mood for what you're about to enjoy. The menu is extensive and features a wide variety of creative rolls, sashimi combinations, and entree options. There's also a white board of specials, and the chefs are quick to make suggestions based on your likes. My wife ordered the Star Roll (albacore, avocado and cucumber inside, topped with tuna, crispy onions and ponzu) - it was fresh and nicely presented, and very generously built. We also shared the Garlic Edamame, which had loads of flavor, and my wife kept looking for other things to dip into the sauce at the bottom of the bowl. For my own part, I ordered an assortment of nigiri: Toro (which they served with a dollop of caviar), Amber Jack (punched with a bit of fresh horseradish), Japanese Mackerel (with ponzu), and Sea Eel (made very crispy as requested). I also added the Chef's Handroll (a combination of spicy salmon, jalapeño, crispy onion, garlic chili oil, sesame oil, sea salt, green onions and avocado). All of these featured fish that was fresh as could be, and were served in lovely presentations -- however, I found the flavors to be somewhat bland. The portions of fish were small; and while I appreciate that may have been to offset the prices, which were more reasonable than many local places, I think there just wasn't enough fish for me to really enjoy the entirety of its flavor. The sake list offered a number of options, and our bottle was brought to the table ice cold; everyone was nice as could be. There was nothing at all "wrong" with our meal, but I would have liked the food to have more impactful flavor. I will be back, though, as there are many other things to try. read more

They have a 6 car parking lot that is always full on evenings and weekends. Metered parking on Radford and free street parking on Hoffman and nearby streets are very hard to come by. Be prepared to circle around the block, hoping for someone to pull out. Venue 4 stars: Medium-sized restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating and a sushi bar. They take reservations on the phone, which I would recommend for evenings and weekends. Service 3.5: Service is friendly and polite, but it can be slow. The level of attentiveness was inconsistent throughout the dining experience (at times our server was very much around and at other times he was nowhere to be found). Food 4 stars: Asian-inspired appetizers, sushi, sashimi and rolls. Fresh and high quality ingredients. Large list of specialty rolls with creative preparations and great taste. Prices are on par with similar restaurants. Drinks 4 stars: Typical sushi restaurant offerings of beer (bottle and tap), sake, wine, soft drinks and tea. Drink prices are reasonable. read more

The rolls are tiny for the price and the vegetable tempura tasted old and super oily. I've given this place a second chance but it's just not cutting it. I do like that they have soy paper and lemon topped rolls. read more

Absolutely amazing sushi! It's on the pricier side, but you pay for the quality! The fish was incredibly fresh, and each roll had a unique, delicious flavor. I'm giving this place 5 stars for the convenience, service and the Toro! Great location for lunch for folks working at the studio across the street. It wasn't too packed for and our server was very sweet. We ordered a few specialty rolls. All of them were pretty good (although a couple of the shrimp and langostino a weren't fully cleaned. The standout was toro nigiri special. It was topped with caviar and truffle and was buttery and delicious! I will definitely be back for that! Prices were typical for a sushi place in the area but not too bad. Totall was around $100 plus tip for two people. It does close at 2:15pm so you need to put in your orders by 2pm and it reopens again for dinner at 5pm like most places around here. read more

Went for the first time after a suggestion from a friend. Food was fresh, staff was friendly, and prices were reasonable compared to other sushi restaurants in the area. We went on a Friday about 40 minutes before they closed. We were able to find parking in the neighborhood easily. We just wanted to be quick as to not overstay knowing they closed soon. We sat inside and it was a little warm and we were in tank tops. Our waiter was great. However there was a little hiccup with the lady who brought our order out. We specifically clarified that she was bringing the right dish. She assured us it was, it turned out not to be after all. It eventually was fixed by our waiter but they should be checking to make sure the order is accurate. It didn't apply here but I have a guest with an allergy that a mistake could be a bug problem. I loved their salmon sushi so much that we ordered the chef's special spicy salmon hand roll. It was jam-packed with salmon, crispy rice, jalapeño, and avocado. This was, without a doubt, the best spicy salmon hand roll I have ever had. The yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño, crispy fried onion, cilantro, and ponzu was absolutely scrumptious. I was especially excited to try the Sasha Roll-- spicy salmon, jalapeño, crispy onion, garlic chili oil, sesame oil, green onion, avocado, sesame seeds, and rock shrimp tempura tossed in lemon chili mayo, all wrapped in rice paper. Since then, I have gone to Studio Sushi several times but didn't write or update my review. I truly think it is time to update/alter my review again. I was there on February 11, 2025 around 7pm and as I walked in there was only one couple there and I thought they were closing for some reason. Got a nice welcome from the chef with a warm smile and the host took me to my table. Let me start by saying how fresh, beautiful, and delicious their sushi is. By saying beautiful is the way they serve it to you in their plates that is also unique and pretty in it's own way. I PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO DETAIL!! Comes my server Kwyn, with a very warm, keen, friendly... yet professional attitude and took my order. He even brought me a small cup of COMPLIMENTARY miso soup because it was cold, but I didn't want to eat a whole big bowl of soup; because I was more in the mood for their sushi. I ordered Spicy Popper Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Yaki Udon. Everything tasted divine. Nice portions and had some left overs to take home and enjoyed them the following day. Everybody over there is sooooooo nice and friendly. I fell like I am part of their work family. Joseph always stops by to say hello and we carry a small conversation from here and there.
