    Spicy tuna crispy rice
    Candace C.

Sushi Katsu-Ya is one of my all-time favorite restaurants in LA. The spicy tuna crispy rice and the baked crab hand roll are two of the best dishes ever, and they feel quintessentially LA to me - rooted in authenticity, with a twist. The spicy tuna crispy rice is the original, and it's the best one. The spicy tuna still tastes like tuna, not overloaded with sauce. The crispy rice is perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the seasoned rice is delicious. The baked crab hand roll is often what we consider dessert - it's warm, fresh and salty sweet, always satisfying. The popular dishes are popular for a reason - you can't go wrong with any of them! The seared albacore with crispy onion is another standout. Katsu-ya was also the first place I had marinated sashimi dishes like this, and the albacore and sauce with the crispy onion piled on make for a perfect bite. The creamy popcorn shrimp tempura is lightly crispy and coated in just the right amount of sauce. The miso marinated black cod is another undeniable standout. It is packed with flavor and it's always cooked perfectly. One of my favorite ways to dine here is to request a chef's choice selection of nigiri - usually 6-8 unique pieces per person (each order is 2 pieces) of the best/freshest fish available. You can let them know if you have any allergies or restrictions, but otherwise we just go unofficial omakase style! We always end up with fish we may not have known to order - red snapper prepared 2 ways, kanpachi. We are always happy with what we get, and the quality is consistently high. And there's a fun element of surprise! I will also give a shoutout to the live sweet shrimp sushi. They fry the head and serve it with the sushi. You can just eat the whole head, and it's rich and delicious. The restaurant is clean, comfortable and no frills. It's not a big space but they utilize it well and it doesn't feel overcrowded. The staff is great - they're polite, attentive and helpful. Food service is well-paced. They take reservations by phone. I can have a really great meal for under $100 (with an unofficial "omakase" experience if desired), which I think is completely worth it for sushi/sashimi. There is a small lot that charges $10, and limited street parking. I've been a happy customer for nearly 20 years of this location and other restaurants of the Katsu-ya Group. I continue to enthusiastically recommend them!

I've been here once ages ago and came back while hosting a friend from out of town to get her to try some great LA sushi. Parking in this lot is nigh impossible, valet here is $10. Street parking is theoretically available (metered) but attempting it on Ventura Blvd for dinner can also be nigh impossible so we opted for valet. We did not have a reservation and came on a week night, however, we were fortunate enough to be able to get seated in under 20 minutes! Service was polite. Sushi Katsu-Ya features exclusively indoor seating in a small space on Sushi Row but I enjoy their decor and more intimate atmosphere! Spicy tuna crispy rice 5/5, loved!! soft but not too soft, crunchy but not too crunchy, tuna was fresh and just melted on the tongue, I'd reorder this everytime Teppan roll 1/5, omg so I wanted to try another "special" roll from my usual as an experience but this comes out steaming hot?? Apparently a Teppan roll IS supposed to be hot except this was never listed on the menu or clarified by any of our 2 rotating waiters so??? Salmon cut roll 5/5, basic salmon roll, I opted for this as a replacement for the Teppan. simple but fresh!

Somehow, I've ordered more takeout and delivery from this location than I've actual dined in. Every time, though, I've always had a wonderful meal. Katsu-Ya is truly in a league of its own, and continues to be a LA / SFV "must." Fresh nigiri or sashimi is a safe choice - my faves are the seared salmon, salmon special, ikura, scallop and yellowtail. The combos are fun, and usually what I get when my workplace coordinates delivery for us. The Spicy Tuna Bowl, the Sashimi Combo and the Sushi Combo (complete with crab hand rolls!) hit every single time. As for rolls, I love a good creamy salmon roll, spicy salmon roll, blue crab roll, robert roll, negihama roll... etc. I would also recommend the popcorn shrimp, shishito peppers, spicy tuna crispy rice, albacore sashimi with crispy onions, and baked crab hand roll. Katsu-Ya is worth the price, hands down. Everything melts in your mouth, they're consistent and reliable, and you can find something for everyone. Street parking or valet are your best bets in this part of town. It is usually quite busy and crowded here, so make a reservation and plan ahead whenever possible!

Oh man, the original Katsuya! So many memories connected with this place. Been here over 100 times and this spot does not disappoint -- always very fresh fish and this location is truly a sushi staple of Los Angeles. Their toro and uni are absolutely amazing, but on an average day at lunch I usually go with the delicious basics. My standard is a spicy tuna cut roll, creamy salmon cut roll in soy paper and spicy shrimp cut roll in soy paper. All 3 rolls, while simple, are incredibly fresh, delicious and hit multiple taste notes. Love this place and will continue to come back for more yummy sushi! Their customer service is always on point and the ambiance is a lot of good vibes, with many tables and sushi bar for dining and with the design less modern and more classic, Japanese wooden finish. All in all, a great go-to spot for delicious sushi and rolls!

Katsu-ya is good but I've noticed the wualoty has declined. The crispy rice is as good as always and the best in the city. However the salmon sushi was fishy and tough. I was disappointed by this as I expect better from here. The scallop was over garnished and was too salty. The hand rolls were chewy and the seaweed tasted like it was sitting for a while. It has that tough consistency unfortunately. I wish my experience was better

We came in on a Saturday afternoon and the place was busy but calming atmosphere. The decorations were very unique and pretty. We sat at the bar to see the sushi slicing in action which didn't disappoint. Customer service was awesome, they gave us wet napkins to clean our hands before and after eating . We ordered 2 Sapporo draft beers with a couple rolls from their regular menu and menu of the day! Our rolls were SO GOOD, rainbow roll was yummy too(not in pic). I've never had a sizzling sushi that just melted in my mouth. Such great quality and good sized sushi pieces. Spent around $65 for 2 people not including tip! Definitely coming back!! :)

Back again after a while. This place Never disappoints! We went around 2pm on Saturday. And it was not crowded. Now I know when to come. I ordered our usual- the albacore with crispy onion and spicy tuna with popcorn shrimp that we always order. This was outstanding as always. The tuna on crispy rice which was always my favorite - something was missing. We tried a few new things. the Japanese ceviche - very interesting and refreshing. Bits of chopped seafood with cucumber. The Robert roll was very good. Loved it. Spicy albacore w shrimp tempura roll- hmmm I'd give that a miss. Not my favorite. The Frozen peach margarita- Nope. Our server was attentive and friendly. Lots of street parking.

It was our first time there. Friendly service. The food was fresh and delicious. Certainly a thumbs up and I can say, give it a try.

Chirashi bowl. Fresh and tasty. Such a wide variety of fish to eat. Amazing!

Sushi Katsu-Ya was a great dining experience. My mom was too busy to have lunch with me on Mother's Day so we went out for lunch at Katsu-Ya on Tuesday. The ambience was bustling but not too crowded. We started with the salmon and caviar which was extremely flavorful. My mom had the BSC and I had the chirashi bowl. The chirashi was epic with a ton of variety of fish to eat. I was very happy with my choice. My mom said her BSC was great. For dessert we had the red bean ice cream which was simple and sweet. The service was top notch and very attentive. I will have to come to Katsu-Ya more often!

Located on Ventura Boulevard, Sushi Tomoki is a small, intimate sushi restaurant with a clean, minimalist Japanese aesthetic and a relaxed atmosphere that lets the food take center stage. (The Infatuation) Since we were dining with our 22-month-old, we requested a table instead of sitting at the sushi bar, and the staff was very accommodating. They even prepared a customized tamago sushi roll for our little one, which he absolutely enjoyed. The omakase was thoughtfully paced, with each piece served one at a time so we could fully appreciate every bite. The fish was incredibly fresh, and every piece practically melted in our mouths. The attention to detail and quality of the ingredients really stood out. The only piece that wasn't my favorite was the sushi topped with mint. It simply wasn't my personal preference, though I'm sure those who enjoy mint with savory dishes would appreciate it. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Everyone was warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. They made my sister's birthday even more special by singing Happy Birthday and surprising her with complimentary sherbet and four pieces of green tea mochi--a thoughtful touch that ended the evening on a high note. Overall, Sushi Tomoki delivered a memorable omakase experience with outstanding sushi, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We'll definitely be back.

Spicy Tuna Cut Roll--for 10 pieces ($14.80), Albacore Fried Onion Roll-- count of 12 for ($20.80), Zero Roll-- count of 12 for ($25.00), Rainbow Roll-- count of 12 for ($10.80). Everything was so LIGHT, FRESH and DELICIOUS!!! They also have hand rolls, and other types of cut rolls. They have street and metered parking. Before I forget, we ordered Crispy Rice Tuna that came in (2) pieces for (13.50). The minute I saw that, it made me laugh. Called our server and told her to take that back and remove it from the bill which she gladly did. I thought it was going to be an actual full course rolls. They also have dessert but we didn't order anything. Restaurant was very quaint, limited decor, very busy for Monday mid evening, and was very nice and clean. Total came out to be $95.70 including tax minus the tip. I'm sure they also have a bathroom, but we didn't end up using it. I will return, but not any time soon. They also don't have any Bento Box type of food. Very authentic place to go on a date, friends, family or even dine solo. They also have a Sushi Bar. Alcohol wise, only have beer, wine and sake along with 2 fridges full of cold drinks.. Thank you all very much!!

Service was professional and each waiter has an appropriate number of tables assigned to make sure each customer feels like they're being cared for. Price is very affordable for an omakase, and considering what you're getting, the price seems justified. Having had a few omakase experiences prior to Sugarfish, I have to say this was an underwhelming experience. I came because of its reputations amongst my friends and acquaintances. Unfortunately, it did not have the creativity and innovation I was looking for in an omakase. Usually, I'd see chefs take more risk by showing off a new combination of ingredients. Instead, it looked like the price of the omakase was just the price of each dish you could get at any other sushi restaurant. I'm talking a few slices of sashimi, a hand roll and some nigiri. If you're someone who enjoys traditional, high-quality nigiri and sashimi, this probably won't be your go-to spot. Shiki is all about comfort sushi: big rolls loaded with imitation crab, creamy sauces, baked toppings, and bold flavors. It's rich, indulgent, and definitely on the heavier side. That said, when you're absolutely starving and just want something satisfying that hits the spot, Shiki delivers. The menu is huge with endless options, portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. Every time I've come here I've ended up ordering specialty rolls instead of actual sushi because that's really what this restaurant excels at. I also have to admit... baked rolls are one of my guilty pleasures. A lot of higher-end sushi restaurants don't even serve them because they're more of a comfort dish than traditional sushi, so Shiki scratches that itch perfectly. The service was exceptional--friendly, attentive, and quick, which always makes the experience better. Will I be back? Probably not anytime soon, simply because I usually crave a more traditional sushi experience. But compared to other restaurants in this style and price range, Shiki does an excellent job. If you're looking for filling, flavorful specialty rolls with great value, this is an easy 5-star spot.

Always some nice electronic music that isn't too energetic or too sleepy. Sometimes there can be loud people but that really can't be helped in todays culture unfortunately, especially LA. I do wish they had more caffeine free drink options. Maybe some liquid death sodas, la crouix, or lemonade options would go well with the ramen or rolls! **The only other thing to keep in mind is that they tend to stop serving within a half hour of closing and sometimes they close early, might be best to order ahead or call if you intend on coming by around closing time, I was very disappointed two times because of this. ** Also, there is a shared lot and usually open spots on the street too. I recommend parking on the street as the parking lot can be a bit chaotic.

The soup here is absolutely incredible. The 3K Seafood Miso Ramen (spicy ) has become my ultimate comfort food. To be honest, I barely ever try the sushi because the ramen became my favorite from the very beginning, and I always end up coming back just for it. There's seriously some kind of secret ingredient in it that gets people addicted. I also love the shishito peppers, the garlic spicy edamame, and their lava cake. I've tried the sushi a few times and it was good, but for me the real standout will always be the ramen. I come here almost every week or every other week and still never get tired of it. This is already my third year in a row coming here consistently -- there honestly hasn't been a single month where I haven't visited at least once. If you're looking for a luxury or trendy restaurant, this is probably not the place. The restaurant feels simple and casual, but the food is what keeps people coming back. The staff is always very kind as well. One small suggestion: the garlic edamame is amazing, but the garlic smell stays on your hands forever They used to provide gloves when we asked for them, but recently they haven't had them available anymore. I really hope they bring that back.

Instead of apologizing, Tori was rude, dismissive, and tried to shift the blame onto us by interrogating my husband on what he said. She had absolutely zero management skills, she was dismissive, and her condescending attitude was unbelievable. In my opinion, one of the worst decisions this restaurant has made was putting Tori in a management position. Her vile attitude, lack of customer service, and complete inability to handle a simple issue turned a loyal customer into one who will never return. One interaction with her erased years of loyalty.
