4.5 stars! My partner and I came here on a whim after other dinning plans fell through and we were very pleasantly surprised! Located in Westlake, it is not the easiest place to get to if you are transiting. However, I would suggest getting here by transit or on foot because parking is not readily available. We had an early dinner so it was not super full when we got there. The service was fast and very friendly. The restaurant is not big so I would imagine it can get quite full fast! Between the two of us, we ordered 3 separate rolls and the nigiri dinner set which was the perfect amount of food! The dinner set was very reasonably price with some high quality fish! The rolls were a bit smaller but priced lower which made it easier to try a variety of rolls. I highly recommend checking this place out if you are in the area and want some high quality sushi that won't break the bank!

What a great spot for sushi! They have some very reasonable rolls and a lot to choose from. Although I had walked past here before, I finally came here on a date for the first time. We ordered a few different items to share including edamame, crispy rice with tuna, urchin, spider roll, miso soup, and shiso peppers. Everything was so delicious! The crispy rice with tuna was probably my favorite. Highly recommended. The spider roll was also nicely prepared and more crispy than I am used to. Looking forward to coming back here again soon for more sushi!

I stopped into Katsu-Ya for a quick snack and was pleasantly surprised that they have happy hour 4-6pm on Sat and Sun. The service was warm and efficient and the sushi was nicely prepared and presented. I'd be going back, but alas, I'm only in town for one night.

Enjoyed a lovely outdoor meal at a sushi place nestled right across from the park on Westlake. The service was excellent with staff who were attentive, friendly, and made everything flow smoothly. The food itself was a solid four stars. It was fresh and satisfying, even if it didn't completely wow me. The location is very convenient for those near the Citizen Hotel or Whole Foods. If your hotel is farther out, be prepared for some steep hills that might be challenging for guests with ADA considerations. Construction in the area can also make Uber arrivals unpredictable, so it's worth planning ahead. Inside the restaurant, there are three steps, but they've thoughtfully installed an ADA-accessible elevator to make things easier. Altogether, this spot delivers with a relaxed vibe, well-prepared sushi, and top-notch service. I'd happily return and recommend it to others exploring the Westlake area.

There were so many things on the menu that sounded delicious but I ended up getting the Power Lunch which included various nigiri, seaweed salad, edamame, miso soup, baked salmon, and crispy corn(?). I appreciated the quantity for the price but the quality of each item was hit or miss. The nigiri was fresh and delicious (not sure what the furthest on the left was but I liked it). The miso salad dressing was perfection. And the crispy corn was one of the best appetizers I've ever eaten. However, the miso soup was lukewarm and lacked flavor. The salmon was the same as the miso soup and also super dry. As for the restaurant itself the place was very clean and aesthetically pleasing. The waitress was nice. Just wish the manager/host was more welcoming.

Tried this spot again as had done a workout and needed food open after 8 and luckily this spot was still open. We were seated instantly and the restaurant was decently busy with about like half the tables full. The service is nice and the spot is nice in the center of slu. As for the food, I really enjoyed the slu roll but my friend had bones in their bite which isn't great I feel but all my pieces were super yummy with no bones. I liked how it was a crisp refreshing taste and I would def get this roll again. I thought the scallion yellowtail roll was just okay and didn't care for it and def wouldn't get it again, I felt like there was a weird aftertaste and my friend thought it was too sour. The spicy salmon was just alright, tasty tho, I did notice the rolls weren't rolled too tight bc they kind of fell apart. The brussel Sprouts were yummy very flavorful, maybe a little salty and too saucy for me personally. My friend did think the taste of the fish for all the rolls were very good though.

very cute sushi spot. nice interior and they were very kind and welcoming. gave us a hot towel to start and i would definitely come back! would not recommend the crispy rice tuna bites they were not crispy or worth $16. tuna was fine. i loved their salmon + tuna sashimi and nigiris rolls were also great. got the westlake and spicy red dragon. tempura was also good, loved the seasonal options and miso soup was also nicely flavored and delicious. 9/10! would definitely be back for their lunch specials and happy hour

Love grabbing takeout here for lunch! The staff is always super friendly and efficient, and the food is usually ready within 15 minutes of ordering. Everything is packaged really nicely too, making it super convenient and quick! I usually get their salmon bento. It comes with a great variety of sides like miso soup, salad, and rice. The salmon is fresh and flavorful, though my only complaint is that it can sometimes be burnt on the skin side -- so it can be a bit of a hit or miss. Def recommend trying it still though!

I got takeout here so can't comment on the dine in experience. Overall, this spot has some yummy food but at definitely a high price point. I got the spicy tuna crispy rice and baked crab roll since they seemed to be the most popular, and also got the salmon caviar nigiri and yellowtail belly nigiri. All of the fish was so fresh, and this was some really good quality sushi. The baked crab was so delicious and well seasoned and I loved the soy wrapper. The spicy tuna was fresh and crisp all together, and both nigiri were the absolute perfect bite. I'd definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for a nicer dinner. Great yummy food!

We got carry out and got green beans, red dragon roll, 2x California roll, and 2x spicy salmon roll. It was all quite good. The red dragon roll came with a spicy mayo, but the California and spicy salmon did not. I didn't see a way to order it on DoorDash, but I asked for an extra cup at the store they graciously gave me one, thought it was small. Next time I'll ask for 2 extra cups.

Came here last week for a last minute lunch date with my husband since I've always wanted to come here for lunch to try their lunch bentos! I'm so happy we finally found the time because it was so good and such a great deal! We both got the lunch bento for $23ish which came with a salad and miso soup to start and then the actual bento box had five pieces of nigiri, two spicy tuna crispy rice, crab rolls, miso cod and edamame! So much food and everything was delicious! We'll definitely be back!

Rolled in later than our reservation and they were gracious and held our spot as they were filled except for the bar area. Interesting interior and this is their first restaurant outside of LA. Good vibes and glad my friend recommended it. Yellow tail collar was meaty delicious. Miso cod was melt in your mouth, decadent and delicious too. Had the hamachi and hamachi belly sashimi and it was super thin and the flavor was an experience as I went from the collar cooked to the belly Raw. We had great service and the green tea is premium.

How do you spell FABULOUS: K-A-T-S-U-Y-A, that's how! I was recently in the big city for a couple of days, and was craving some sushi for lunch. I found Katsu-Ya on Yelp, and it was only a couple of blocks away. I was worried they'd be busy during the lunch hour, and while the restaurant was pretty full, there was plenty of room for my party-of-one at the sushi bar. I had planned to order a la carte, but when I saw their "Power Lunch" special I just had to try it. I could not BELIEVE the assortment of food in this lunch. It was HUGE and could easily have fed two people. For only $24.80, it was a steal of a deal. (Heck, I paid almost that much for a fast food combo meal a few weeks ago!) The meal started with miso soup and a salad, then the main attraction arrived: a plate full of allll things yummy goodness: six pieces of nigiri (all fresh and delicious), two pieces of corn tempura (yes, corn - have never had it but it was quite wonderful), edamame, a seaweed salad, and a hearty piece of deliciously cooked salmon with fresh steamed veggies. I'm sad to say, as tasty as this meal was, I couldn't even finish it and ended up leaving about half the salmon when I left. Next time, I'll skip breakfast before heading here! The service was super friendly here, and the sushi bar chefs said hi and thank you to every guest. I really liked it. TBH, it kinda made me sad I don't live in the big city anymore!

Our hotel, CITIZENM, down the street recommended us this place when I asked for their best sushi restaurant in town. They weren't lying. This is my top 3 favorite sushi spot and it was my first time there! I ordered: Corn Tempura Seared Spicy Albacore w/ Crispy Onion Japanese Ceviche Salmon w/ Black Caviar Creamy Popcorn Shrimp Tempura Chili Edamame 4 1/2 Roll Everything was amazing. However, one SMALL complaint, although the flavor of the edamame was yummy, it was on the overcooked side. It felt mushy, I prefer for it to not be that soft. If it's your first visit, just order off their signature dish list. You won't be disappointed. read more

I was so excited for this location to open and they did not disappoint! They did not skip any detail when it came to health and safety which is an obvious concern these days. But, from the moment we were greeted to the time we left it was 5/5 for service. Try the garlic albacore or, my new obsession, the salmon w/ black caviar. The service was very good-waiter was very attentive. We were also able to make a reservation and sit outdoors and they turned on the heat lamp for us. However, here were my issues with the food: both hand rolls had greasy seaweed which I did not like and it was unexpected (not mentioned on the menu). I'm guessing it was a sesame oil blend. The brussels sprouts my friend ordered were totally burned (tasted burned, not just caramelized) and also very oily. It was not picture-worthy but now I wish I had taken a photo. The spicy tuna was room temperature. I would have expected it to be cold. My friend didn't mind. There were large-ish pieces of cut raw white onion mixed in which I was able to remove. I would have preferred very small pieces or green onion/scallions. There were nothing wrong with the sushi i.e. it was definitely fresh but the other factors made this not great. read more

Wow wow wow! Don't sleep on this great food. I wish I had tried their food sooner. This is just excellent Japanese food. I will most definitely order here again. I'm always looking for quality Japanese food and don't always want to pay $100 plus for sushi (love Shiro's) and this was the perfect deal for quality food and for a great price. And the staff is SO nice and they care a lot about being careful during the pandemic. I got the large Nigiri set and I couldn't believe how much food it came with. And it was REALLY good. Everything about this place was spot on! Probably one of the best sushi spots I've tried. They also have a location in LA that's amazing too. In comparison, I do think the fish is fresher here in Seattle. The miso cod was absolutely mind blowing with flakes of tenderness. We tried everything on their summer special menu and it did not disappoint! Not only was the food amazing but our server Rochelle was fantastic and attentive to our needs. Nice spot. Sushi seems to be of quality. The only thing is this place nickel and dimes you. Fifty cents a roll to sear it. Like, I don't think I have ever been to a sushi place that charges to sear. Overall, if you don't mind being nickel and dimed the experience is not that bad. The service is alright, and so is the sushi. But for those like me, be warned. They may charge you for chopsticks in the future. ‍ read more

You know a restaurant is giving its all when they bring up staff from already established stores in SoCal, and doing an opening during COVID. The salmon melts in your mouth and the tempura corn reminds me of something from a carnival, but restaurant quality of course! The staff are great. Omg melt in your mouth. I went on a date with the hubs and it was nothing short of incredible. Rochelle was our server, suggested amazing sushi and was more than attentive. Considering the location being in downtown, the price was not bad. The crispy rice spicy tuna was good. I had a bento box and salmon caviar sushi. The quality of the sushi was good, it wasnt amazing though. Maybe for bento box they use sushi of less quality? I am giving four instead of three as the price wasnt bad. read more

Whoa!!! Where is Chris????? This is an epic David Bowie experience! Ch-ch-ch-Changes! New staff behind the Sushi Bar! We have been regulars there and Chris made amazing Vegan Sushi options for me. He skinned roasted red peppers to look like salmon. He took such pride in making me new Vegan creations each time, even though his co-workers made fun of him! No, he is gone with new management taking over. When I asked if they would do a special Vegan sushi options for me, the reply was a flat, simple NO! The corporate chef did not allow that! Huh! I guess that restaurant is staff-centric and not customer centric! Rules and policies told to customers get my response of "see-ya"! Plus, the staff behind the sushi bar had very little confidence and charisma when asked questions by other sushi bar customers, including a guy named Ryan, celebrating his 27th birthday. My friend ordered a bento box which too FOREVER! We had to ask twice and it finally got delivered! Finally, upon receiving the check for lunch, the server stated there was a 20% discount due to new staff training. That discount was short by 80%. We are looking for Chris. We heard he is across town in the Pike Place area. My final response; I will NOT be back!" read more

Our friends (who are sushi connoisseurs) highly recommended this spot to us. We went with a group of 4 last night and it was AMAZING. Truly on par with Sushi Kashiba & Sushi Kappo Tamura, yet in a more relaxed setting. The sushi was all incredibly fresh- some highlights were king salmon, amberjack, & super fatty tuna. The corn tempura and crispy rice cakes with spicy tuna were incredible. And the staff-servers, the manager Sam, & the sushi chefs- all couldn't have been sweeter & more welcoming. This is our new fave sushi place in Seattle & we can't wait to go back! Go check it out- you will not regret it! read more

I was really excited to eat here because I'd heard so many great things about their LA location but it is not good. The sushi's rice has way too much vinegar, making the rolls mad sour and overpowering any other flavors. Like another reviewer, I thought the crispy tuna was bitter, gummy and sour. The best thing I had was the baked crab roll and it was just okay. Worth one try to see if you like it but don't order too much to start just in case. Based on the other reviewers it looks like they struggle with consistency. I recommend momiji and japonessa which are around the area and way tastier, especially momiji!! read more

My new favorite sushi spot! Ordered takeout and got the crispy rice with spicy tuna, popcorn shrimp, salmon sushi with caviar, baked crab roll, yellowtail scallion roll, creamy salmon roll, and the 4 1/2 roll, all a perfect amount for 2 to share. I liked that the rolls were on the smaller size and reasonably priced so I could order a good variety of items. All the rolls were amazing: fresh fish, perfectly cooked and seasoned rice with a good rice to fish ratio, and all with subtle flavors that just melted in your mouth. Our favorites were the baked crab, creamy salmon, and 4 1/2 rolls. Everything was packaged nicely, and staff and chefs were all friendly and since we're still in covid times, all wearing masks appropriately. I'm only bummed we didn't take some pics to share, but we got too excited to gobble it all up! Maybe next time! read more

Amazing lunch spot, very affordable lunch combo. Came with miso soup, salad, tempura corn, assorted nigiri and grilled salmon. Wait staff was amazing and you can tell they take Covid precautions seriously. My only regret is I have to find somewhere else for dinner now, I'm tempted to come back in a few hours. read more

A very fine sushi and Japanese specialty restaurant. Our group had the miso black cod and sashimi dishes. These were quite good. There were only about 4-5 pieces of nigiri that tasted fresh and clean; the white fish that you start with in particular were just not a fun texture or flavor. The shellfish course and sweet shrimp were solid though. Unfortunately, besides the fish, the rice was a total flop too. It just felt dried out as if they had been pre portioned well ahead of time and under seasoned. Part of the joy of a course menu, if you want slightly warm / room temperature rice against the cool fish, but you get zero of that contrast here.

Hit: Garlic short ribs (my partner said these were tender and a good portion for happy hour), Poke sushi roll (good fish quality and taste) Misses: First Ave Roll (sauce was just walloped on top, weak flavors), veggie and shrimp tempura (heavy and soggy batter), pink lychee cooler (artificially sweet with no strong lychee flavor), green tea tiramisu (photo speaks for itself). If memory serves I got the one with sweet potato and pear. Very different but very good. It had a nice dryness to it. To wrap it all up we got some deep fried mochi ice cream. It held up nicely to being a great finish to a very high quality meal. We are definitely coming back!

The three of us ordered the omakase and the food was delicious. Each piece was delectable and glorious. For food alone I'd given it a 5. Ambiance was nothing spectacular nor would set it apart from other sushi restaurants. It looked and felt like most sushi restaurants that offer omakase in the area. The service is where our dining experience, surprisingly, fell the most flat. Our waitress was a timid young woman who seemed very overwhelmed, speaking very quietly and quickly which caused us to ask her to repeat herself a few times. She had a script and if she stuck to the script she was fine but if we asked any question she wasn't prepared for, like asking about sake, she locked up. She also didn't appear to be receiving much support either. Questions regarding the sake were funneled through her to someone else who would relay the questions through her. The back and forth was enough I questioned why this person didn't come with our waitress to assist her. The explanations on the omakase dishes were given quietly or not given at all. It was just a bit atypical for omakase style restaurants in the area.

Further, these are full size handrolls compared where the ratio of fish dominated the seaweed and rice so that is the primary mouth feel. King Salmon - We topped up with ikura since caviar wasn't available, and the portion size was generous; the ikura adds a delicious salinity and texture profile to balance the naturally sweet salmon. Fresh wasabi gives this piece such a nice bright freshness. Ebi Nuoc Mam - Smaller shrimp seasoned with that classic Vietnamese palette of savory fish sauce that can give the shellfish flavor to hold its own. Tempura Shrimp - This roll gives a classic tempura shrimp roll with all the fix ins from spicy mayo to a sweeter saline glaze. The cucumber adds freshness and the piece eats very well with a balanced serving of rice. The yellowtail had some citrus on it, but it was not too overwhelming. Their salmon's was perfect and topped off with sesame seeds. The service was okay and the place itself was a bit vacant. It's understandable since they just finished their happy hour. I would say it's not too bad for a place located next to a touristy spot.

We decided to stop by this new location in Seattle South Lake Union and the manager and staff were very accommodating of my needs without any difficulty.
