It's a crime against the people of Saratoga Springs. And it's just plane offensive. I regret if anyone was driven to try Mrs. London's based on my previous glowing reviews. I am so sorry. I had no idea. But I was just there this morning. I gazed into the pastry case at the croissants, and my heart sank. I felt sick. The croissants looked like something you would see in an airport. I think the croissants at Costco might be better. These were flat, flabby, and pale things. Far from the perfect, golden, flaky, structured, glistening beauties of the past. And this isn't about fond recollections. I have receipts. Photos from the past and pictures of the present. It's night and day. If the new owners aren't going to preserve Mrs. London's food, they should have the decency to put someone else's name on the joint. I too asked about the breads, and was told "their baker retired". Fortunately, Michael London taught other people to bake amazing artisan bread, and his legacy lives on elsewhere. Unfortunately, nobody at the shop bearing his name bothered to pick up the torch. What a shame. It is so sad. I am literally heart broken. This was one of my favorite bakeries in the country. I went out of my way to make a special stop in my limited time passing through the region. But I suppose nothing lasts forever, and this is a valuable reminder of that unfortunate fact. My days visiting Mrs. London's are over. I can no longer recommend it in good conscience. Perhaps the hot chocolate is still good, and the decor is still lovely. However, if you look closely at the glowing reviews, they all point back to a time that has now sadly passed.

Once upon a time it was a lovely, decadent little shop and we looked forward to indulging in chocolates for our Tanglewood visit. Not anymore. For the last 4 years, the service has been poor and they are out of chocolates on a regular basis. Being a small town, there weren't many options still open, so we called to see if they were still serving dinner. The sweetest lady answered and told us their kitchen closed at 8:00 PM, but they would still be happy to take us. We're SO glad we called! The moment we walked in, we loved the place. It was beautifully decorated, with fresh wildflowers they had picked themselves, the tables were set so nicely, and everything had such a warm, cozy, welcoming feel. We were seated immediately and had ice water at the table right away. The service from beginning to end was seriously top-notch. Then the wonderful lady helping us, and I'm so sorry we didn't get her name, brought out freshly baked mini blueberry muffins. OH. MY. GOODNESS. They were DELICIOUS. That was the moment we looked at each other and knew dinner was going to be good. And it absolutely was! Our daughter ordered an omelette, my wife had the steak frites, and I ordered the chicken piccata. Every single dish was delicious. My wife also ordered a blueberry cosmo, which she loved! At this point we were completely stuffed, but there was no way we were leaving without trying dessert. We ordered the red velvet cake AND the chocolate croissant bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. We didn't have to wait long. I think maybe like 10 minutes. It's a small quaint restaurant on Phila Street not far off of Broadway. We walked here from our hotel (Hilton) as parking anywhere/everywhere in Saratoga can be a challenge. There is street parking right in front of Sweet Mimi's but it'll probably be taken so you should probably just walk. And you'll appreciate the walk to help burn off a few calories of Sweet Mimi's delicious offerings. (And there are plenty to partake in.) We enjoyed the Cinnamon Roll French Toast and the Mediterranean Omelette. We did not leave disappointed. In fact, our tastebuds and tummies were so happy with our choices. The omelette actually came with the same challah bread that the french toast was made from. If I lived closer, I'd be buying that challah bread every week. It's so freakin' good! The french toast is HUGE! Really... you should share it. The several bites I took were incredibly satisfying. The cinnamon was just right. And because it was already sweet... we opted to forgo the syrup. The french toast also came with a bunch of blueberries, blackberries and raspberries!! Because yesterday, I paid (brace yourself) a buck and a half for a one-scoop cone of pistachio gelato. Yup, I really did. Scoop 518 is the quintessential small town ice cream shop. You'll find it located on the picture perfect Main Street of Chatham, NY. It has a very cool eclectic interior with pink trim, black and white mosaic floor tiles, giant circus posters, and I kid you not... a giraffe neck and head sticking out of the upper cabinets behind the counter. They offered 16 flavors, a lot of the first generation basics (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, coffee, black raspberry, butter pecan, maple walnut, mint chocolate chip), some of the second generation of flavors (cookie dough, cookies and cream, salted caramel, peanut butter fudge), plus a sherbert, 2 sorbets and a gelato for those looking to save some calories. Actually, I paid 2 bucks for my cone because I added chocolate sprinkles for fifty cents. I'm used to having cones rolled around in a bowl of sprinkles for the maximum density of sprinkle application. But that wasn't the case here. She put the sprinkles into a plastic quarter cup container and carefully sprinkled the sprinkles onto and around the ice cream. It didn't work very well and when was the last time you felt ripped off for paying an extra fifty cents? Anyway, 2 bucks for a cone with a smattering of sprinkles is still a fantastic bargain. By the way, the pistachio gelato was delicious.
