Salmon Lemon
Jeannie L.

Food: 4/5 the crispy rice is always the star of the show here. We also had the rock shrimp, the o-toro (market price: $22 as of March 2026), and salmon lemon specialty roll. The crispy rice, o-toro & rock shrimp were all fantastic choices. Salmon lemon specialty roll was good but didn't steal the show like the others. Ambiance: dim lighting which makes for a romantic setting, feels like an elevated dining experience. Decor around the restaurant feels outdated, reminds me of a Las Vegas nightclub but maybe that's just the vibe. Service: Good service - we were sat right away (~8:30pm on a Saturday night after a Kings game). The food came out very quickly, server was nice & checked on us often + made sure we had everything we needed and kept our waters constantly refilled. I wish he introduced himself so I could shout him out.

This is our go to spot when going to a LA Kings game. I know it's a little bit pricey for what you get ($10.00) for nigiri, but so is the prices at Crypto and the food taste a lot better here. My usual is the fried rice bowls with an order of sushi on the side. Hint. I would recommend making a reservation as it fills up fast on game days.

Pros: Great location. Stylish decor. Cons: Limited menu. Cocktails were meh. Food and cocktails took an exceptionally long time. They forgot to give us soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi. The restaurant was almost empty but still the waitstaff was not very attentive. Obviously you're at LA Live so prices are going to be exorbitant. We've been to Katsuya two other times and both those experiences were far superior to this one. Hopefully this subpar visit was just a one off.

Went before a show at LA live! Happy hour is ONLY at the bar. We sat outside. Our drinks were very yummy. We ordered some food to share for the table. Our waiter made us a special spicy sauce (?) and it was amazing with our sushi. It was a nice place to stop before the show or even a basketball game!

Sushi was fresh and delicious per usual, first time dining at the LA Live location and most definitely will be back. They have multiple TV's showing the World Cup which is a HUGE plus. This still allows for an elegant vibe but with that extra entertainment without disturbing your meal due to loud volume or rowdy crowds. Amanda, our server, was on point with her service, helping us to enjoy our experience to the fullest extent! Get the salmon lemon roll while you are here!

The food here was really good! Stopped by before a Lakers game -- ordered the black cod bites, miso soup, veggie tempura and edamame -- everything was served pipping hot. Service was awesome and the atmosphere is fun! They have a great bar area, and you can watch the kitchen in the center of the restaurant -- fun! They have a nice cocktail selection -- prices are moderate, but was expected. They do not validate parking ... but that was expected as well -- take Metro!

Pretty empty...

Listen.. I work in the service industry. I absolutely support health benefits for servers and managers of restaurants - they work so hard and earn it. But I do think it's incredibly tacky and a bad look for the restaurant to charge its customers the fee for that. You're already making money off of us - use your business to pay for your employees' health care. And putting "you can ask for it to be taken off" isn't a get-out-of-jail free card. That just makes your customers feel bad and feel like jerks when it's not our responsibility to do this in the first place. Also, our waiter looked kind of annoyed we wanted to add something to our food order. Felt pretty rushed and it's not busy at all.. I mean I'm counting the tables and there are a total of 5 tables (this includes us). Food was okay. I got the salmon and hamachi sushi and it was definitely great quality fish. The corn crunch roll was not my favorite. The crispy rice tasted kind of buttery actually which was different.. Anyway. Probably won't be back here but mostly wanted to leave the review for anyone coming so you aren't shocked you're apparently a business owner and need to pay health benefits.

Sushi Set

Love coming here before an LA Kings game for an early dinner. On weekdays, there usually isn't much of a wait around 5pm, and we were seated very quickly. We got the Sushi Set , which included 4 crispy rice pieces, 2 specialty rolls, 9 nigiri, 12 sashimi pieces. The specialty rolls we got were the Corn Crunch roll and the Katsuya roll. The quality of the fish was so good, especially the tuna and yellowtail pieces. While a bit pricey ($125 for the Sushi Set), I do feel that the quality and amount of food we got was worth the expense. Looking forward to coming back again next time!

We went straight for the tasting menu and was very satisfied! Did not opt for the wine pairing as were lightweights but do enjoy a couple of reds and whites with it. Friendly staff, good relaxing atmosphere and walking distance from the JW Marriott and pretty much any event place in the area of LA LIVE! We were very satisfied with the quality of the food and the friendly service. Certainly coming back to this place when I'm back in LA!

We had dinner here tonight. A party of six. It was not busy. We were seated quickly and staff was friendly. The menu was standard and a bit over priced on some dishes. Food is good, but not great for the price. We were the only Asian diners there. Restaurant is clean. Clientele is the L.A. Live younger crowd and non-asian. No fresh Wasabi. There are better alternatives not far away. Parking: $10.00 for the first two hours. Rating: 3 Stars

Tomahawk Short Rib
April C.

I used to love Katsuya, but the quality of food compared to the prices, is just no longer there. Sadly. The ambiance is cute and I'd say it's great for drinks but not a fan of the food. There are definitely other places with better sushi and quality fish. We got there right when they opened so I was surprised to learn that they didn't have scallops or their Branzino available. The rice to the spicy tuna crispy rice fell apart as soon as you tried to pick it up. The outside pieces of the chicken were pretty dried and hard but the inside was perfectly cooked. But..nothing special about the chicken with teriyaki. The only thing that was up to par was their tomahawk short rib and their corn crunch roll (not pictured) Their rock shrimp was alright. nothing special. Service was okay. For a place that was yet to be packed, the server barely stopped by to check if we wanted to order more or needed anything else. Again, hate to leave 3 stars but that's how our experience went.

The burnt Branzino on the L.A. Dine menu.
Oliver K.

LA Dine menu: Ordered the Branzino. It was burnt and tasted like what one would expect burnt fish would taste like. Sent it back to the kitchen, but the server said, they could just cut out the burnt skin. Sigh... just cook it right.

Very nice ambiance, nice music, amazing service, everything we ordered was very good, they even have a special sauce and it's very tasty...Misa was very attentive and polite, he was the one who recommend us the sauce and we love it!

There are many more flavorful authentic options throughout LA. The service was, well, nonexistent. The server never checked up on our table after the food was served. There's a strong possibility we would've ordered more food, definitely more beverages, had he checked on our table. At one point, a woman who appeared to be manager/owner walked into the restaurant, and her and server went to a booth at the back of the restaurant, closed the curtains and left the restaurant with no discernible servers for the duration of their "meeting". It took over 20 mins to simply pay for the meal. Overheard a table over confronting the server over a discrepancy over the tip amount, the 20% amount on the pay machine actually being more than 20% of the bill. This tracks with what others have cautioned. Location and ambiance is lovely, but not enough to warrant a revisit.

Nearly two hours for a takeout order is excessive, especially without clear communication or updates about the delay. When I arrived, I was informed that part of the order had been sitting out for about an hour. I wasn't comfortable accepting food that had been sitting that long, so I chose to cancel the order rather than wait even longer for a fresh remake. Again, the food here is genuinely delicious, and that's the reason I'm leaving this review instead of simply never coming back. My issue isn't with the quality of the food--it's with the order management, communication, and customer service surrounding this experience. I hope management can improve these issues because the food deserves better than the experience I had.

The yubu was fun to try, and there were several healthy tea options to choose from. I honestly wanted to try them all since they're not the kind of teas you come across very often. The only downside for me was the roll--it was smaller than I expected for the price. Looking back, I would probably skip the roll and order a cup bap or a few more pieces of yubu instead. I also noticed quite a few people picking up to-go orders, so ordering ahead is probably the way to go if you want to avoid the long wait.

Was sat immediately and served water. They have a pretty extensive menu of most things you'd find at a sushi cut roll spot. We ended up ordering the toro garlic toast, veggie tempura, ginza roll, and several pieces of nigiri sushi. The toro garlic toast was pretty good - sort of like a spicy tuna crispy rice situation ... but a little fattier and more garlicky than crispy. The ginza roll was pretty good too - a lot of fish in the roll and wasn't overwhelming with too much sauce. The tempura was good too- not super oily and all your typical veg involved. The nigiri sushi were pretty well prepared. The size was pretty good for the price - and each were accompanied by a small garnish on top or a little bit of sauce brushed on. All in all - I wouldn't say it's a date night place, but is a good easy eats sushi spot for rolls and nigiri for the price. Would recommend!

First impressions: the place is pretty simple. Don't expect a super decorated sushi bar or that "wow, this feels like a hidden Tokyo gem" vibe. It's more casual and a bit plain inside. Service also felt a little... rookie. Our waiter was nice but seemed new to the job -- a bit unsure and not very engaging. Now let's talk about the food. We ordered a mix of sashimi, nigiri, and rolls -- salmon sashimi, bluefin sashimi, rainbow roll, Red Dragon roll, sweet shrimp, eel nigiri, and a baked salmon roll. Presentation was actually quite nice (orchids and plating looked great for photos, but the sashimi slices were thinner than expected. The fish tasted fresh enough, but overall the food landed in the "good but not memorable" category. Solid sushi, just nothing that really made us go "wow." If I were judging purely on food and atmosphere, this would probably land around 2.5 stars for me. BUT... here's where the night got sweeter. When the staff heard our daughter had just won her gymnastics competition, they surprised her with a free ice cream to celebrate. That was a really thoughtful gesture and totally made her night. On top of that, they also brought complimentary miso soup for our whole table (4 of us), which was a nice unexpected bonus. Little things like that go a long way, especially when you're dining with kids. It turned what would have been a pretty average dinner into a warm family moment. So while the sushi itself was just okay, the kindness from the staff bumped this review up to 3.5 stars for me. Would I go out of my way to come here? Probably not. But if I'm nearby and craving sushi again, I'd consider stopping in -- especially since they were so sweet to our little champion.

Recently, it came back to mind, so I looked it up and found out that the Little Tokyo location had permanently closed. After doing a little more research, I discovered that they had relocated to DTLA. I had been craving a Hamburg steak lately, which was one of the main reasons I decided to visit. My mom ordered the Sukiyaki, and I ordered the Hamburg steak. We shared both dishes, and unfortunately, the Sukiyaki was unbelievably salty. It tasted as if someone had poured an entire bottle of soy sauce into it. Even when eaten together with the rice that came with it, it was still overwhelmingly salty. The beef was also very tough, which made the dish even more disappointing. As for the Hamburg steak, the portion size was extremely small. On the positive side, it came with a generous serving of rice, a salad, and miso soup. The Hamburg steak itself tasted good, but it was severely overcooked and heavily charred, which was a huge disappointment. Until recently, I wasn't particularly focused on my health, but both of my parents have been dealing with health issues, and seeing that has made me much more health-conscious. I've been trying to avoid burnt foods and charred meats whenever possible. I've also cut out ham, sausages, sugary juices, and sodas. Because of that, I was especially disappointed to see my Hamburg steak burned so badly that parts of it were almost black. The restroom required walking down a very long flight of stairs. While it was spacious and clean, it had a somewhat eerie atmosphere, probably because it was located in the basement. There were only stairs and no obvious alternative access, which made me wonder how customers with disabilities would be able to reach the restroom. The service was very friendly and welcoming. However, between the disappointing food, the inconvenient parking situation (street parking only--fortunately, thanks to my usual incredible parking luck, I managed to find the one available parking space), and the difficulty of accessing the restroom, I don't think I'll be returning. Overall, I was especially disappointed by the food, and for that reason, I probably won't be visiting again. But, I gave the tip 20%. Cuz, the service was friendly.
