Came on a weekend for an early dinner and it was already packed with customers! I appreciate how we're able to call ahead to place an order. We ordered the mala rose tteokbokki and the popular yubus. The yubus are good but for me the mala rose tteokbokki is what makes me come back. It's perfectly creamy and the mala flavor comes through without over powering the dish. The numbing spice isn't too strong either which I prefer. It took a while to get the food since it was so busy but the food turned out great so it was worth the wait. I'd rather have them take their time so that each dish comes out perfect rather than them rush the process and deliver a mid dish. I think about the mala rose tteokbokkk every month and would visit more often if I wasn't so far! read more

Very excited to try this place! We ordered a mix of yubu and I had the lemon salmon one - tbh, I was a bit underwhelmed. The salmon was a bit on the fishy side for me, and I wouldn't get it again. The spicy Mala beef belly, though, was excellent and had my mouth on fire, and I would definitely get it again. My FIL had the unagi avocado and liked it. The star of the show for me, however, was the rose topokki. It was a touch spicy but oh so flavorful! The fish cake and cabbage gave the sauce a complex flavor and kept me coming back for more. I placed a takeout order around 3:46 PM and ended up waiting until 5:29 PM for it to be marked as ready. Nearly two hours for a takeout order is excessive, especially without clear communication or updates about the delay. When I arrived, I was informed that part of the order had been sitting out for about an hour. I wasn't comfortable accepting food that had been sitting that long, so I chose to cancel the order rather than wait even longer for a fresh remake. Again, the food here is genuinely delicious, and that's the reason I'm leaving this review instead of simply never coming back. My issue isn't with the quality of the food--it's with the order management, communication, and customer service surrounding this experience. Perfect spot to go for Yubu pockets and they had plenty of topping choices to pick from. First of all, lemme appreciate the moist and well-seasoned tofu skin and rice base. Also they're pretty generous with the toppings, making the price tag worthy. Our top two were the Mentaiko crabmeat and Philly creamcheese salmon. Drove 40 minutes just to try these colorful-looking yubus we see in pictures and also recommended by a friend. It was our first time here, so even though there were only 3 of us, we ordered a little bit of everything to try. So, 6 yubus, loaded fries, mini cup bulgogi, and tteokbokki. First off, the young lady at the counter was super nice and accommodating. We were greeted right away, she even recommended the 5+ 1 Yubu to get a good deal. The food was good overall. The tteokbokki was definitely the standout for me! I would order this again, it was so flavorful. The loaded fries were also really good. I personally wasn't a huge fan of the tuna mayo yubu, but that's just me. Portion-wise, I'd say 1-2 yubus per person is enough, while the tteokbokki and loaded fries are definitely shareable for 2-3 people depending on your appetite. ($100 + for all these w/ tip included). The only downside was the plates they provide. Since the portions are pretty generous and meant for sharing, the tiny carton plates made it really difficult to eat comfortably. We asked for extra plates and even requested bigger ones, but were told those were the only plates avaiable, we still ended up asking again because eating from those little plates was honestly inconvenient. KingYubu :) your servings are great for sharing, so hopefully you can provide sturdier or larger plates in the future! The place itself is small and cute and located in K-town. Kingyubu was a TikTok recommendation, and walking in we knew we were in the right spot as they had their TikToks playing on a loop on the TVs. So the question becomes is it worth it or is it just marketing? The average price of a yubu is $7 with tax, so a whole platter like the ones you see on TikTok would come out to be easily $80+. We tried the kimchi loaded fries, the yubus pictured below, and their bulgolgi rice bowl. The portion of kimchi loaded fries was huge; the melty cheese was not just surface layer but extended down to the bottom! And the kimchi was able to cut through the fattiness. The yubus were delicious, some better than others though. The better ones were the yubus that balanced flavors well, like the lemon salmon or the King Yubu. The most underwhelming was the bulgolgi, both the bowl and the yubu. Just seemed like seasoned ground beef that I would meal prep for myself. Service was kind and attentive. They offered to take photos for us and offered recommendations. The restaurant looks simple from both the outside and inside, but serves some not-so-simple looking food. Kingyubu now is one of my favorite korean bites to go to in LA. I've been hearing about this spot for a year now and finally got a chance to try it and it did not disappoint. I chose to do take out and ordered through online. The process was very simple and straight forward. When we got there, one issue was parking as it was limited. However it wasn't an issue since I'm just picking up. For sit down it may be a bit challenging to find a place to park. Service was amazing because workers were nice and helpful. The food overall was very flavorful and fresh. I feel like they did a really good job putting the right amount of each ingredient into each yubu and it made each bite so good. Always a good experience at Kingyubu! It is a diamond in the rough to find free accessible parking in LA. The food is always fresh and the meat is always marinated to the heavens. I personally love the spicy pork yubu and the beef bulgoli yubu, with the spicy chicken yubu coming in third for any spice lovers. One thing I would note is that this is definitely more of a "for here" type of food as it gets extremely messy while eating. Definitely not something to eat in the car. It's a little bit oily, and within one bite your yubu just falls apart so I would recommend using the gloves they offer to really dig in. We came during lunch and for 3 yubu with a drink it's only $16.99 and they give you a cup of miso soup. I was super full and I didn't even finish my 3rd yubu, so it's a really good deal. We came during lunch time and it wasn't busy when we walked in, but as soon as we sat down, it got pretty full fast and I kept hearing the DoorDash thing beep, so it seems like a pretty popular spot. They have a pretty nice amount of options for the yubu toppings, so I'm sure they have something for everyone. Staff was really welcoming and nice. KingYubu has always been one of my favorite places. They create very interesting and delicious yubu sushi by topping the tofu rice pokes with all kinds of creative ingredients. When I hosted a rooftop party with my friends, my friends brought a large order from KingYubu so everyone could try it, and everyone loved it and said it was delicious. It's also great to dine in. The last time I visited was on the evening of December 9th. In addition to their original location on 8th Street, they recently opened a new location at Madang Mall, which I'm really happy about. I've come here a few times for yubu as this was the only restaurant to currently sell any in LA. Parking is a hassle with its tiny lot so I always suggest finding street parking and walking over. I've tried the grilled bugolgi yubu, torched salmon yubu, kingyubu, unagi avocado yubu, and tuna mayo yubu. They were all decent tasting with the grilled bugolgi yubu being my favorite. The slight burnt taste plus the sauce enhanced the beef flavor. The fish based ones were kind of bland for my preference. My issue with the food is by time I get home, I get extremely thirsty and feeling dehydrated. Overall, decent yubu but the after feeling is not good. I don't know if it's whatever they use in their ingredients or it's me. If you're craving yubu, there's really no option for the time being aside this spot. read more
