We have not been at katsuya in a long time as they close a lot of different locations. So it was nice to see that they were still open, and my girlfriend loves their crab cheese ball. We went around lunch 2 o'clock in the afternoon on a weekday and it was pretty empty. Price is definitely went up. It seems to be a combination of three restaurants that serves Korean fried chicken, Korean pizza and the Katsu. There was staff working, but it was a little hard to get their attention, but they did come check on us from time to time. They did play music, but it was not too loud. We were able to speak pretty easily. Most importantly, the food it tasted the same nothing changed. The portion seems to have gone smaller and the amount of sauce you get seems to be quite minimal. The garlic did taste a little burnt rather than toasted so I left like a bitter aftertaste.
This place is on Yonge street near Centrepoint mall. There are a few parking spots. We got lucky and got the last spot. The place is bigger than I thought. Lots of seats, all booths which is nice. Lots of deals also on the walls for frontline staff like police, firefighters (except nurses, they're "not frontline" enough). They have 13% off for cash pay, so tax free. Service is a bit slow here but it's tolerable. The waitresses are really nice. The Katsuya was honestly SO DELICIOUS! The breading is light and the right crisp. The chicken was also tender, not bad at all. They gave us the wrong wings instead of what we ordered which was the bulgogi wings (forgot to take a pic). We ate one of the wings and the server came back to let us know and took it back. They apologized, brought the right wings, took a while so they said immediately that it's on the house. Very kind of them. One of the wings though wasn't cooked to be honestly... maybe they rushed it? We didn't tell them or take it back, we weren't paying for it. I had food poisoning the night of, felt like vomiting. Regardless I would come back here honestly because the katsuya is just so good. Would like to try other ones or maybe a pizza.

I used to go to Katsuya every month, but because they closed in Markham, I haven't been able to go. But when I learned that the north York location had free parking, I went immediately. The restaurant is large and roomy with many available booths. All the tables were kept spotless, and the waiter was always ready to assist. In this Katsuya, it was combined with Pizza Mary, giving plenty of options. But this day I ordered the pork loin Cheese Carbonara Pork Loin Katsu, as well as the Cheese Crab Croquette, which was my non negotiable for myself as it was my favourite. Prior to our meals, we were given the complimentary soup. And it hit the put as always. The cheese crab croquette came out first and they were as good as I remember, maybe even better as they put lots of sauce on the top. When the katsu came out, I was a little surprise to see that it was much smaller I remember, with much less sauce. In terms of the flavour it reminded me of their carbonara udon which I enjoyed. Overall, regardless of the size, it was plenty and satisfying.
The portion is huge! The restuarant has a lot of tables but the location parking is quite limited. Based on the two dishes we tried (original katsu and sweet chili katsu), the sweet chili katsu has a good flavour profile with a bit of kick. I do wish they gave more sauce, but they do charge extra if you would like more. The original katsu was alright.
Came for their summer time promo with cold noodles. Nice and refreshing, the katsu is smaller than their regular items paired with rice, but portion was still decent.
Take out the fish katsu and after air frying it, it still tastes good. My best sauce is still red carbonara though
Came here for their 10 year celebration promotion for only limited for a time( check their IG). Admitted my first time here. No lines got there at opening. Staff were friendly. 4 different katsu to try for this promo. Original, Japanese, curry and sweet chili. Came with small bowl of soup and our katsu came quickly. The sesame in a mortar and pestle nice touch but doesn't add much to the food on the original flavor katsu as it gets stuck in the bowl. All katsu came with rice and cabbage and small yellow radish. The katsu was a large portion crispy light the pork was tender could cut with chop sticks ( though I'd prefer an actual knife to cut the bigger pieces). The sauces were nice curry tasted like golden curry cubes, original had a sweeter slight tomato taste to it was very good and the Japanese style all crispy no sauce on top instead had a plum sauce on side. I did find the sauces were good and would prefer it on the side as it would make the katsu soggy. I would recommend and come back to try other items on their menu. Outside there is a small parking area in front of the store fully parked. Large waiting area with some seating. The table closest to front is the windy cold seat as there are no double doors and wind gets pulled in. Booths seat by the window other table and chairs seats. Open kitchen view can see the staff cooking from a far. They also have an "incentive" where if you give 5 star review you can get a free drink this was advertised on the table. This means there could be bias reviews on their Google reviews. Just an FYI.

Decent katsu chain restaurant -- the pork katsu was flaky and crispy, and had good flavor. Definitely not the best but great portions and value. Waitstaff kept on bringing us free appetizers (from cancelled delivery orders?), which was very nice. The kids enjoyed munching on pizza. A casual restaurant experience. Parking is extremely limited, but you can park on the side streets in the residential area.
I originally wanted to come here for my birthday weekend, but unfortunately they do not take reservations on weekends. So I ended up coming here with friends on a Tuesday. The restaurant was pretty empty a 6PM, but the service was quick and efficient. The best thing about the North York location is that you get access to both the Katsuya and Pizza Maru menus in one location. We ordered the following: The Pizza Maru Seafood Bay 16" pizza: This pizza was huge! It had a sweet ranch sauce, cheese. crab meat, shrimp, ham, pineapple, onions, mushroom, bell peppers, corn and sriracha mayo. Overall it was an OK fusion pizza. It was a bit different than what I'm used to since it was sweeter than we thought. 3/5 The Katsuya pork loin Katsu: This is their signature dish, and never a disappointment. The pork was tender and juicy, and was deep fried to absolute perfection! It came with a sesame sauce coleslaw and a side of rice. The Worcestershire sauce was slightly sweet and fruity, which perfectly complements the katsu. All in all, a great experience! 5/5 Highly recommend! The Boneless Chicken Karaage: This was a bit of a disappointment. For the same price as the katsu, it didn't come with any sides and the portion was quite small (1 lb). It was fried in a different batter than the katsu, and was not really crispy. The waiter also forgot to bring the sauce, twice. So we were eating it dry at first. I think that the Karaage is better at other places. I would not order this again. 1/5.
Came here to have the Mala Promo again Nov 18-21! Delicious Carbonara mala pork katsu! My only complain is the rice is tiny! I ended up getting a refill and having my friends review also! The place wasn't that busy, but they did have lots of takeout of order!
I've been a loyal customer to Katsuya and I love their different variations of Katsu as well as the broad range of flavour profiles alongside the sauces. I went in today to grab a special platter for myself to try and I've got to say that I'm very much impressed. The service is an added bonus as the establishment has friendly and hospitable staff that will accommodate to your allergies and try to make your experience the best way they possibly can. Last but not least, most places have loud background music, but this place gets it right with a soft backdrop without it being too overbearing This set included: Japanese Pork Loin Katsu + Deep Fried Shrimp (x2), and a Small Udon + Side Dish
I have a soft spot for cutlets and am quite picky however this location exceeded my expectations in flavour. I have try their spicy garlic (the garlic was a little too overpowering) and their cream katsu. I prefer the cream and can't wait to try their many other options on the menu. The atmosphere is laid back and retro. Definitely has a down-to-earth vibe. Servers are friendly and quick. I would definitely recommend this location if you enjoy cutlets. read more

Katsuya is a Korean-owned Japanese Pork Cutlet Restaurant which is high ranked in Toronto. The taste of all kinds of Katsu (Pork Cutlet) is juicy and crispy. Most kinds of Katsu could be chosen from different materials (Pork Sirloin, Pork Tender, Cheese Pork Sirloin, Chicken or Fish). The taste of Takoyaki is also authentic. Solid katsu place. Unlike Mr. Tonkatsu, which is more traditional, you get more variants -- like cheese, sweet chili sauce, carbonara, etc. Tried the sweet chili and tomato sauce with freshly-fried garlic and it paired beautiful on the fried pork. The lady really enjoyed her fish katsu fish as well. Hard to say which is better -- Mr. Tonkatsu and Katsuya are both good, I would say Mr. Tonkatsu is slightly better but Katsuya has some great sauces. The only complaint was the service. Not sure if they dropped our order, but it was a long wait for us and people that ordered after us were served first. Also, when they bought us our dishes, the waitress told me they were still frying my garlic and it would be another 5 minutes. Honestly, a bit odd you would serve me an incomplete dish, so my dish just sat in front of me while I waited. So, there is no garlic in my picture. I waited. And waited. Until they brought me a bowl of fried garlic and I was too cranky and hungry to take more pictures and wolfed it down. However, despite this -- the combination of sweet chili, katsu sauce, tomato and garlic was magical. If you're a garlic fiend like me, I would definitely recommend paying the extra $1 for the fried garlic. read more

After a name change of what used to be Mr Tonkatsu, Katsuya provides a hip and fantastic Japanese cuisine option in North York, comparable to what one would find in downtown Toronto. The decor and furniture give a rustic first impression of Asian authenticity. It's not difficult to find prints of Sakura on pieces of woods that decorates the wall of the restaurant. The presentation of the food is very appetizing and the portions are very generous. Free refills of rice, salad and miso soup are included with an order of a set meal. Meat options include pork loin, pork tender, chicken, cod, all prepared in tasty cutlets. What makes Katsuya's tonkatsu unique and refreshing is that one can choose various sauce to go along with their meal, such as carbonara, sweet chili, spicy and garlic. Dining at Katsuya is an overall very satisfying and pleasant experience, enhanced by various opportunities to get a free beverage or discount through their promotional incentives. read more

If ask me of a katsu restaurant in uptown I'll always recommend Katsuya. The portion is very generous. Normally I'm not able to finish all of them and pack up the leftover for my next day lunch. We order Tako wasabi as the appetizer. The wasabi flavour is light and good. But the seaweed is rather too small, making it difficult to wrap the tako up. Katsuya offer x types of sauces to add on your katsu. Also you can choose from loin, tender, chicken and etc. to make a customized meal. The meal come with a miso soup, sliced cabbage and steamed rice as sides. Doesn't it sounds great? I choose the carbonara loin katsu. The sauce tastes awesome and the pork loin is very crunchy. I like this kind of heavy and smooth taste very much. The place only accepts debit card and cash. The staff there are all very friendly. Overall a great place to go! read more

Katsuya is one of the top choices for katsu dishes in the heart of North York. They often a range of meat, from pork, to chicken and to fish. There are also a lot of choices on the type of sauce, for example, garlic chili, curry, carbonara, to name a few. We ordered the Pork Loin Katsu and a side order of curry karage chicken wings. Both were a delish, with really tasty breading. The waitress was really friendly and she also offered an extra bowl of miso soup, when our order only suppose to come with one. I am a big tonkatsu fan so this was alright. The restaurant itself is pretty small. It is also pretty popular so we had to wait for about 20 minutes for a table for 2 for dinner. The menu itself is pretty extensive. All the dishes are the same but you can pick the sauce. I picked the sauce that their are known for: The Katsuya Original. I picked this mainly because there is no dairy in the original sauce. It is just made with fruits and vegetables. The pork itself was tender and fried beautifully. Definitely worth a try! I would come back to try the other sauces. read more

I found the fish katsu to be a surprising option. The portions are very generous and the carbonara was cheesy with good amounts of bacon and agitators squid bits. The miso soup is not bad and they offer free refills (on all except protein; though the protein serving is already big to begin with). Would come back again in the future! read more

Good value for money. We tried the curry karaage thigh, crispy and mildly flavored...fried fresh oysters, good too...our favorite was the cheese crabmeat croquettes. We also got 5 different kinds of katsu...my favorite was the original. Check out my pictures and my opinion on the dishes. read more

The food was superb:) we got the crab croquettes, original katsu, terri-mayo katsu, and japanese katsu. Not gonna lie, but the croquettes stole the show. In my opinion, terri-mayo was the best in flavour and value out of the three that we had. Great ambience and very filling. You could get away with sharing one katsu between two people. They give you free refills of rice and salad which is also great! Would come again to try other menu items. read more
Always have a craving for deep fry food after a long week. Katsuya always hit the spot with its katsu (deep fried cutlet) set. Comes with soup, salad, choice of meat & rice. Starting at $12.50, you will be fully satisfy. Definitely the best of its kind in Toronto. Go for chicken if you want a juicer option. You can always ask for more soup. Cash or debit only. read more
I've been wanting to try Katsuya ever since I grabbed a business card from Kinka. So when my boyfriend and I found ourselves at yonge and finch with no real agenda, we decided to stop here for lunch (or to get out of the cold, you decide!) When we enter, we're immediately greeted though they sort of have a photoshoot of their food going on. We're seated and we're given water (that has lemon soaked inside!). Always appreciate restaurants giving you a pitcher of water so you can refill your cups yourselves - some call it lazy but I love it. Nothing more annoying then running out of water and not getting it, or having someone refill your cup every two seconds. I couldn't decide on what to get - the carbonara one or the spicy chili one so I asked our server. He tells me he likes the carbonara one better so I listen and it's delicious! The cheese is somehow still very stringy (its mozzarella) although the chicken is not super hot. It stays stringy all through the meal. The batter is a perfectly crispy layer, and my boyfriend appreciated how it's very thin unlike other places that /COAT/ their batter on like it's oatmeal. Meal comes with a bowl of rice, salad and miso soup. I believe they give refills for the soup, as our server asked us if we wanted more. It's very filling, I must say! Large portion size. I couldn't finish my cutlet (one slice left to go but I couldn't do it) and the rice and salad was barely touched. It's because their cutlet is an entire steak slice, and I wasn't suuuuper hungry. I can usually finish a cutlet at other places (i.e. Mr. Tonkatsu) so perhaps here, slices are bigger. Our server was very friendly and nice! She was so cute and always smiling so I loved having her. I'm assuming this location is usually slow as we showed up at 4 and there was only one other group there. Then again, it was a Thursday night so perhaps business picks up a little later. Katsuya has been on my to go list for a while. The long anticipated wait was 100% worth it. The restaurant is a little small and was full when we arrived; however, we were promptly seated. The server was very nice- she brought over water and miso soup as we were sitting. My boyfriend and I got the curry pork katsu with cheese and a pound of curry karage (thigh). The The curry karage came with 3 dipping sauces- chili, wasabi mayo, and teriyaki. All very good sauces that compliment the karage well. The karage was super tender and juicy. The portion sizes here are huge- one plate could probably feed 2 people. The pork katsu was stuffed with cheese and super tender. The curry, mild and not overpowering, paired wonderfully with the pork katsu. Everything tasted amazing. Overall a great experience with delicious food worth the price! Came here for a late lunch, location was easy to find, but there wasn't any parking left in the small lot so I had to park on the street. The restaurant is decorated well; has a rustic look, with pipes / taps as jacket hooks etc. I ordered the mayo katsu and my gf had the carbonara katsu with double cheese. We had the crab croquettes as an appetizer. Soup/rice/cabbage salad is unlimited so order as much as you want. Crab croquettes - they were decent. I could taste the crabmeat but the consistency seemed like they were also filled with mashed potatoes. The sauce they came with were very good though. 3.5/5 Mayo pork katsu - forgot the full name of it, but it is a new item on their menu. It was pretty much takoyako but with katsu. I wasn't a fan of the sauce nor the flakes on it as i don't think it went well with the katsu. 2.5/5 Carbonara Pork double cheese katsu - gf thought the double cheese was too much (mozzarella + cream cheese) as it was paired with the already very creamy carbonara sauce. The sauce itself was spicy and flavourful and you can taste Parmesan as well. 3/5 The portions were LARGE you're getting close to 10 strips along with a bowl of soup, rice and cabbage salad. On the expensive side as well, ranging from 14-17 per meal. read more
We were a bit worried when we arrived to find Mr. Tonkatsu replaced by Katsuya. Luckily, it was nothing to worry about - it's basically exactly the same, with the addition of a few more items to the menu. **With the exception of the 86'd honey butter chicken, which is now a lovely distant memory ~~ What's new? The most notable difference I saw are the sauce options. You can still get the regular tonkatsu with the tonkatsu dipping sauce & ground sesame (under the Original Japanese Tonkatsu menu), but now you can also get house-made curries and sauces made of seasonal fruits and veggies. We tried the house-made sauce, which is normally served right atop the tonkatsu piece. The taste was similar to butter chicken, with the texture of gravy. It was tasty, but I recommend asking for the sauce on the side to keep the tonkatsu breading nice and crispy. I'm down to try the other sauces too, which I'm sure will be fun to try through the year to taste the differences through the availability/freshness of produce. But today feels like an Original kind of day... read more
This is my favourite katsu place and one of my favourite restaurants in the Yonge and finch area. My friends and I frequent here for lunch/dinner and have gotten great service and consistently delicious food. The only downside is that it's a small restaurant with limited seating and is not the best for large groups. read more

The food: The pork was slightly dry but the tangy sauce and cheese made up for it. The outside was nice and crunchy. The service: It was difficult to get a server's attention to make our order, and it was even more difficult when we were ready to pay. We gave up on trying to make eye contact with the servers or even waving at them and walked up to the cash. I paid, tipped, said thanks and left and one server literally chased me out to the parking lot, saying she gave me the wrong bill. I had to go back in and pay the difference. I think the staff could communicate better so they don't end up wasting time like this. read more

Dropped by for dinner and luckily it wasn't too busy. This place specializes in breaded -blah- (replace blah with your choice of chicken, pork, fish, etc.). While there are quite a bit of choices on their menu, and it is a pretty simple concept. Bread the pork or chicken, deep fry it, and smother in sauce and you have yourself a meal. Ordered the curry katsu. Breading was light and crispy. The pork was flavorful and somewhat juicy and not dry. Curry sauce was good and they gave a good amount where it didn't drench and cause the breading to go soggy. The side salad was didn't have enough dressing so it tasted bland and dry. Overall, katsuya provides a good meal and worthy of a solid 3 stars. read more

Great service & great food ! I would come back here anytime The pics say it all :) The portion was actually really big i couldn't finish it all. The seatings are not that flexible so I wouldn't recommend to groups more than 4 though. read more

I keep coming back for more and definitely will come back. My favorite is the original katsu pork with sweet potato and cheese filling. Amazing crunchy batter, juicy pork, generous portion, indescribable sauce. The original house sauce is just as its name, very "original", hint of curry and tomato, but can't quite tell what exactly it is. Recommend to go before 7pm to avoid long wait. There are limited parking spots and seating as well. Not the most comfortable seating, but service was friendly and quick. Definitely a wonderful dinner if you like pork and deep fry. read more

Came here for the first time. The first impression I got was that the restaurant was small--so small that I was able to count the number of seats it could have and the max is 30. We came here at around 1:30pm on a Sunday and we got one of the last tables, but there was no wait of people after that. We ordered the honey butter fries which was ok, kinda new to me to have sweet fries that weren't sweet potatoes. We also ordered the Katsuya original pork loin which was nice and juicy but there was not enough flavour in the sauce, it could have used a Bit more salt. El hubbo ordered the white snow spicy sauce which was not spicy at all and also was not as flavourful as well. For $50 we could have ate somewhere a bit better. We probably would not come again but it was good to try. Sorry Katsuya. read more

My wife and I had a great experience here. We waited for 4 tables before being seated. It's a small open kitchen setting. We ordered the Curry Chicken Katsu and Chili Garlic Pork with one cheese. Both were very juicy and huge portions of meat. Rice, salad and miso soup are free refills. The fried batter is light and we especially love how fluffy the chicken was. We were blown away by the attentive service of their wait staff. We accidentally dropped some napkins and one waiter quickly picked up new napkins for us as he brought food out. We had a small mix when the curry chicken was served with pork instead. They offered to give us a new serving of chicken and let us keep the pork. The waiter apologized and checked in on us a while later. Service makes everything better! We will be recommending this place to our friends. read more

This is one of the best katsus I've had. Their cheese filled katsus are the best imo and can be ordered in any of the flavors they offer. Rice and side salad are refillable, although I always have a hard time finish just their giant katsus. Perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I think their Carbonara Katsu is a must try! Only down side is seating is limited and if you go during regular meal hours you're bound to be waiting for a while. It doesn't stop the line from accumulating regardless, which says a lot about their food. read more

I've been wanting to try this place ever since I had Kaiju. We ordered the crab balls and the chicken karaage as apps. The crab balls were filled with potato and imitation crab and saved with salad dressing. It was underwhelming with not too much crab flavor. The chicken karaage had no flavor - not even salt! We ordered the teri mayo chicken katsu and the curry chicken katsu. The curry one was not that great. I prefer Kaiju's. The teri mayo one was delicious!! I would order this again. They have many choices so I would definitely come back to try more. The staff are so nice and they greet you when you enter and are very attentive. read more
