The server did well and the atmosphere is nice, are the only good things I can say. If you use to go to Katz's back in 2016 on back, that's the last time this place was good. Sandwiches are dry or microwaved making the vegetables soggy. There's no condiments on the table so you have to pay extra for dipping sauce. If you're looking for a 24 hour food place, just go to ihop or dennys the food quality is about the same and you'll save money. read more

My husband has been to the original Katz's Deli in NYC like twenty years ago... so when he found out there was one (or more) in Houston, he had to bring me there. We came around 1pm on a Saturday and got seated right away. The place was hopping but not overly crowded. Our table was one the first floor. Additional seating is upstairs. Frank Sinatra serenaded us as we looked over the menu. The menu is extensive. There has to be an option for everyone's taste. They're famous for their sandwiches but they offer breakfast 24/7 too. I was debating between the Kountry Klub (I enjoy clubs often) or the Turkey Reuben (something I have never had) and decided on the Reuben (Turkey, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing on grilled rye). I wasn't overly hungry so I thought I'd "play it safe" with the 1/2 sandwich and a side for $10.99 special (available every day between 10am-4pm). My husband picked the klassic sized P/C (pastrami and corned beef on Rye) and ordered a size of housemade chips. The food came out QUICK! Probably about 5-7minutes. I was completely speechless when they placed my 1/2 sandwich in front of me. It had to be 5-6 inches tall. HOW does one eat it? Needless to say, I had to remove about 1/2 of the filling to be able to eat it. It was really good. Fun trying something new. The fries were good as well. I had a bite of my husband's sandwich since I have never had pastrami or corned beef and it was actually really good too. The word "corned" beef always grossed me out so I never tried it previously. I will not lie...my frugal meter screamed looking at the prices here. Keep in mind that I'm from the land of poboys, so the idea of actually paying top dollar for sandwiches makes my fatness hurt. I wanted to get that...but... the "Katz Meow" caught my eye. The difference: Reuben - your choice of pastrami, corned beef, turkey pastrami or turkey breast with melted Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Russian dressing. Meow - pastrami, turkey breast, roast beef, corned beef, lettuce, tomatoes and Russian dressing. So many different meats with the Meow...so I'm sold! Bruh, they were out of corned beef! I can't get an authentic taste today. They just added more of another variety of meat to the sandwich. One thing driving my desire to eat here is the cheesecake shake. That's a whole slice of cheesecake blended with vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or real Oreo pieces. Oreo cheesecake shake sounds like a winner. May as well get an appetizer...loaded potato chips sounds interesting. Homemade chips with white cheese sauce, blue cheese crumbles, bacon and scallions could scratch a definite comfort food itch. One of the staff was honest and said it's not much food, so just get the side of chips. I like honest staff. Overall, this was decent food. The shake was really good. The sandwich was well crafted. They are not skimpy with meat on the sandwiches, but my frugal meter was still upset. They have plenty of free parking on the establishment as well as across the street. If you come inside and see very few seats, the upstairs area has plenty other places to sit. Keep one thing in mind...restrooms are upstairs. Fret not, because they have an elevator here as well. Breakfast is served all day at this establishment that never closes. Free refills on Coca-Cola products. If you are vegetarian, they have a vegetarian reuben. They are worth checking out. I'm not a huge Jewish Deli fan (I like them, but not my first choice), but this was probably the best I've ever been to. It didn't seem like a traditional Jewish deli, as I was able to order chili fries and a tres leches cheescake--both of which were amazing. The service was also excellent. I'm surprised Katz's has 3 different locations, and has survived so long. To be honest, I think the only thing that makes them successful is the late hours and locations. After 3 years of living in Houston, and hearing about Katz's, I finally tried it out with a couple friends, late night Saturday. The food was some of the worst food I've ever had. It reminded me of cafeteria food from school, but I think the cafeteria food was better! Between the 3 of us we tried the Mouthwatering Pot Roast, Stuffed Cabbage, A Beef Sandwich, Mozzarella Tots, loaded fries and a World Famous Oreo Cheesecake Shake. We ordered a few other desserts, but by the time we finished eating, we cancelled the dessert order. Not a single one of us enjoyed our meal. If you're just really desperate for late night grub, and are in the area, go here. Otherwise I would avoid this spot.... What a joke of a food... no flavor etc i dont know how to describe it but i didnt even have the desire to eat and finish my food. My friends said the same thing about their foods, gross and horrible! However, to compensate for the bad food, we ordered and tried the dessert. We ordered 2 and it was The worlds tallest 7 layer chocolate cake and chocolate eruption. We shared those 2 and have to be honest, it was good. My friends also agreed it was good and we really liked and enjoyed the desserts. Service was good, friendly server... good ambience but horrible foods and price, way too overpriced and not worth it. I'm disgusted with management that lies to patrons. I'm being brief. So they offer different sizes on different breads. I order the New York size. I prefer rye bread. For 20 years I've done this. The sizes are 3 oz, 6 oz, and 9 oz respectively. This is in their training manual. So when the staff makes two mistakes in a row and each time I call it out, I'm doing it with compassion and respect but zero tolerance. When the manager comes to my table and acts as if it's some big deal that they had to fix my order it should be addressed that she said "well you didn't order the standard thing" I responded with specific "what be ordered this hundreds of times for twenty years." She then says "well it comes with a standard 8 oz but I had them add an extra 1 oz." Yes, because it's a standard 9 oz serving I asked for. And the to have the nerve to say "well I don't want you to expect this in the future." All I hear is a manager telling me that she intends to exploit and lie to people and that it should just be acceptable. It's sad that I would pay twice as much to support a place that strives to treat people well but a place that exploits people, I simply want to see them fail and be replaced by others that care more about people. read more

We were on a search for some lunch and came across Katz.My daughter had never been here and decided to give them a try.Once we entered I noticed all the pictures of New York which is pretty cool since New York is one of our favorite vacation spots. We were immediately seated with no wait by the staff.It took awhile to decide on the entrees so we ordered spinach & artichoke dip that came with bagel chips as an appetizer.The dip was really good and eaten immediately. Our very attentive waitress had given us ample time to decide and constantly made sure if we needed anything.Finally we came up with our choices.I ended up ordering the Three Stooges which is a sandwich that consisted of corned beef, pastrami,and turkey breast.The sandwich did not disappoint.The only thing I didn't like was the size option only one was medium.I would have ordered the large because it was really good. Katz is an authentic NY style deli that sells all of the classics that you'd expect from a NY deli- lox, pastrami, milkshakes, etc. Being a 24/7 restaurant, you have a wide-range of customers and employees. With that being said, we went around midnight and the service was definitely slacking. We ordered 3 signature sandwiches and 1 chocolate cake milkshake. The chocolate shake took over 45 minutes to bring. Not only did our waiter forget to bring it, but he also had no sense of urgency nor was he apologetic when we let him know that we are all done with our sandwiches and the shake still hasn't arrived. They were out of the monte cristo, so I ordered the Reuben. I was disappointed that the pastrami was nothing compared to Kenny and Ziggy's. It had been almost 15 years since my last visit here when I returned last week for dinner. I had no bad memories from that first visit and drive past here often but for whatever reason wind up going somewhere else to eat. I do remember it's open 24 hours so that's nice if you are in this area late and want a table service meal with a wide menu. After parking in their back parking lot (they also have one in front across Westheimer), I was seated at a table downstairs near the windows with the view of Westheimer traffic going by. Like a good deli should, the menu has a little bit of everything and I saw 3 or 4 items that interested me but wound up going with a corned beef sandwich called Katz's Pride. It's offered in 3 sizes and I went with the Classic (medium) for $16.99 and added homemade potato chips for another $2.99. Yeah, 20 bucks for a sandwich and chips but then what in New York is a bargain? The food came out in less than 15 minutes. The sandwich was very good in taste. The corned beef was fresh and with the cole slaw and russian dressing on top delicious. The chips were a large serving and also very tasty. I enjoyed both parts of this meal and it was very filling too. Note to self: next time order the smaller version of the sandwich (called Skinny). That will be enough and save $4. Table service during the meal was good and I visited the restroom during the meal and everything was in order there. I must get back here more often. Their food is excellent, the selection is huge, the portions are big, and famously: "Katz's Never Kloses!" I just went here for the first time for a pickup order. This is not about service or the food. While I was waiting for my order I saw one of the workers ,a young man ,licking his thumbs I assume some type of food off his hands then put gloves on and was putting cherries into a dish and then took the gloves off and everything he touched thereafter had his spit and germs over everything. This was my third time dining at Katz's and I was disappointed in the visit. My food and drink were good as was the service. Where the place failed me is by allowing a large group seats d nearby to be very loud. Make obnoxious noises and yell instead of speaking to each other. The manager was nearby and stopped at the table as well as ours but said nothing. Even when tables left without ordering, she remained silent. She later apologized and said she hadn't noticed the group being loud. It ruined our evening as well as others who were seated in that section. 1st Visit: My boyfriend and I went to Katz's for the first time and it was Okay. There was a server named Ronnie and he was prejudice towards me and took care of my white boyfriend. The food came out great, but the environment was just terrible. By the time we wanted to leave, he left us unattended for 15 minutes until he had gotten back and jokingly told my boyfriend "Now you're on tip duty". I get that people work for tips, but when Ronnie said this to us, we felt uncomfortable and left ASAP. He did not deserve a tip and does not deserve to be working in a place like Katz's. 2nd Visit: I did not want to come back to this store because of what happened last time, but my boyfriend enjoyed the food and wanted to come back. When we were seated inside of the restaurant, we were sitting there with no drinks for about 15 minutes. Many waiters and waitresses had walked by and said nothing to us. The manager eventually came by and asked for our drinks. I was already upset that no one came by to take at least our drinks to get us started, but what frustrated me the most was when the manager didn't want us to stay there after we said we were going elsewhere. As a company, you would want to encourage and treat your guests with respect so that way they are able to come back and leave positive reviews about their company. After getting off work in our Houston office, I took a drive down the frontage road of I 45. Headed to downtown Houston. I kept looking for a nice little restaurant to have dinner at. After about 30 minutes of driving, I decided to turn around, and when I did, I found this place. It was a great catch! I was instantly greeted when I came in, and asked to sit at the bar. Nina, the bartender, was warm and welcoming, and even better? She laughed at my stupid jokes. When I asked for a suggestion, the Katz Meow sandwich was on the menu, and Nina suggested I have it on sourdough instead of French. I took her advice, and it was fantastic advice! The sandwich was huge! The flavors were awesome, and paired nicely with the beer. Oh, yes, I was indeed satiated! I had a great first experience at Katz's! My friend recommended that we come here after trying their cheesecake milkshake. We decided to share the cheesecake sandwich, which is "a whole slice of New York cheesecake in a Brioche roll with chocolate sauce, strawberry sauce, Oreo crumbles, and topped with powdered sugar." It was so tasty and the perfect size to share! I thought it might be overwhelming to add bread to cheesecake, but it actually wasn't too much for us at all. I ended up eating my 1/2 of the bottom bun along with the cheesecake and dipping the top one in the chocolate sauce. The cheesecake itself was great quality, and the strawberry sauce was the perfect topping. In the future, I hope to return to Katz's and try both non-dessert items from their menu and the famous cheesecake milkshake! read more

I went to Katz's with a few of my friends because I was craving chicken and waffles and I was extremely disappointed in the food. Although crispy, the chicken was extremely bland and had no flavor whatsoever. The breading was the same type of breading used for chicken fried chicken, not traditional fried chicken. The waffles were a little soggy. The butter that came with the waffles tasted great. My friends got a sandwich and a burger. The feedback I received was that the sandwich was good but the burger lacked flavor. Katz's hits the nail on the head with their presentation, but unfortunately the flavor is just not there. I come here all the time and have never had a bad experience. This most recent time was earlier in the evening, before the dinner rush. The service was fast and we had no issues. The French onion soup was great! Came out piping hot, and had a nice flavor. The fruit salad was also delicious. All the fruit was very fresh, not mushy at all. This is a TERRIBLE move and trend I see at several restaurants, especially the fact they don't tell you first, post it on their website, or print it on their menu. From the first time to the most recent time I've gone, I've always had good experiences coming to Katz's. The servers are always friendly and accommodating. This is also a great place to come for late night eats. I got a pastrami sandwich here, New York style, and it was humongous! Definitely fits the character of New York City. The pastrami it self was nice and tender and really piled on thickly to the sandwich. The rye bread was nice and toasty and the coleslaw provided a good textural contrast to the rest of the sandwich.
