Excellent service, food came out so quick and wait staff was very attentive. Very modern place. Sushi was fabulous. The gyoza is the best gyoza we have ever had. I think they had caramelized onions in them and they had such a unique flavor and could tell they were made in house. Sushi was also excellent. They had a ton of sushi options and everything was delicious. They put what spicy level each roll was which I loved because I love spicy and it was easy to pick out the spicy rolls from the menu. We will be back. Great for bringing toddlers or a date night.

The ambiance is great but the food was blah. Miso soup tasted like it had too much miso, not in a good way. It was just off. House salad tasted homemade in not a good way. Crab ragoons were predominantly cream cheese. Nigiri: all of it was just okay/not good. But not bad. - fatty salmon was bleh. - regular salmon was okay - bluefin toro special was bad. - fatty yellow tail was okay. Ube cheesecake dessert was meh also but the coconut ice cream was good (not great). Service was very nice but also not great.

I love sushi and could eat it every day, so I was excited to check out the newest location of Kawa Sushi on Bridge Street. Taking over the former Maru/Ando location, not a lot has changed inside but the dining area is bright and clean, and our group of four was seated right away. Nate and I ordered a few items to share: the 8 piece nigiri platter (pricey at $35), the GTR roll, and the burning spider roll. We also split the yuzu cheesecake for dessert. Our rolls came out before the sashimi, and everything looked nice. I will say that the bottom of the GTR roll was very wet (like there was a liquidy sauce on the plate), so the roll was falling apart and a bit tough to eat. Still delicious, though! The menu indicates if rolls are spicy, which is really helpful. Specialty rolls range from $12-$20, and entrees like chicken teriyaki, bibimbap, etc. are $13-$22. They do have a kids menu as well (those items are $8-$8.50). The sashimi was fresh and arranged nicely, and we enjoyed the rolls we tried. The cheesecake was a perfect size to split and a nice sweet treat. Overall I'm glad we tried Kawa but my go-to will still be Ginza. The prices at Kawa are a bit higher than I'd like, but I would stop in again if invited! We paid $90 before tip for our meal that we split. They are still waiting on their liquor license as of May 2025.

Aesthetically beautiful and fast service--love that combo! I was a little skeptical about getting sushi in Michigan after just coming back from Japan... BUT OMG this was insanely good and fresh!! Like, mouth-watering, "take me back immediately" good I had the miso soup (tasty and comforting), matcha tea (perfectly earthy), 8-piece sashimi (gorgeous and fresh), and one salmon belly nigiri that was so tender and fatty in the best possible way. My mouth is watering just writing this. Oh, and they freshly grated the wasabi It was so fresh and flavorful! This place is honestly underrated. Everyone needs to try this spot out - it's that good

My husband and I LOVE this place! We frequent this place twice a month at least. We are transplants from Chicago and have been trying to find a great sushi places. All the sushi we've gotten here has been amazing! Very fresh and well prepared! The wait staff and hostesses are always lovely. The atmosphere is sophisticated and friendly. Plenty of seating and usually no wait. I would say this place has the best sushi in Grand Rapids!

Came to try the new sushi spot in town! Loved the interior after walking in and found our seats. They don't currently have a liquor license but do have soda and teas on the menu. The menu was very impressive and I had a difficult time picking what I wanted to eat. But I ordered some salmon nigiri and the Ultimate Kawa Roll. Really loved their attention to detail on the nigiri with the quality cuts and the flavors balanced so well on the ultimate Kawa roll! I was really happy with my choices. For dessert, the Halo Halo Cheesecake caught my eye. It was very tasty and fun to eat! Our server was very kind and kept checking to make sure everything was good. I look forward to coming in again! I have my eye on a few more items I'd like to try!

Service - staff was friendly & attentive. It wasn't busy when we came, but staff made sure we were taken care of without being overbearing. Speed - food came out at a nice pace. Food: - Takoyaki: a little bit of octopus in a doughy ball, the sauce + mayo (mostly the takoyoki sauce) on the outside overpowered everything; would I order again? Probably not. BUT it was good. 6/10 - Bulgogi: my Gram ordered this for her dish. The flavor was good, the meat was tender, some of the meat looked dry, but I don't think it was (she made no such comments). The kimchi on the side was too spicy for her, but I ate it (it did have a little kick). I felt like it was homemade kimchi, bc ingredients seemed fresh & the flavor was close to how my attempt at homemade kimchi tasted. It also came with a side of white rice. - Spicy Pucker Roll: perfect for the hot weather. Inside was "puréed" (idk technical term) tuna, jalapeño, & cucumber, outside was yellowtail, lemon slice, avocado slice, with ponzu sauce. The lemon on the outside with the fish/jalapeño combo was refreshing. Absolutely loved it. 10/10 - Tempura ice cream: this is their free bday dessert, which my Gram ate in my stead. She basically ate the ice cream inside, left the tempura shell for the most part. - Yuzu cheesecake: bottom layer was yuzu cheesecake, on top a very generous scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with blueberry sauce and matcha powder. The cheesecake was AMAZING, the vanilla ice cream paired so well with it & the blueberry topping/matcha powder on top were like a chefs kiss. It was creamy, summery, and felt like a light summer dessert. 9/10 Overall, very happy with my choice forgot birthday dinner!

What a wonderful place. They had so many gluten free options and the food was delicious and beautiful!! The decor was lovely. I'm so sad I'm moving in a month. This would be my go to place for sure!! I didn't get pics of all the food we ordered but trust me, it was gorgeous!!

Kawa is new to Bridge Street and still very unknown - this place deserves the hype!! Great food that can rival any of your favorite sushi go to's. They have great lunch specials with discounted basic rolls. The bento was delicious and so filling, well worth the price. The sushi rolls were spectacular with unique combinations

i went to Kawa Sushi, and it was a pleasant surprise! we got the calamari as an appetizer. first impression was it looked small, but it did fill me up enough before my entree for sure. i love when it's calamari where you can see the tentacles lol i ordered the 8 piece nigiri, which is chef's choice, and 1 piece of salmon belly. the fish is super fresh and soft. it was delicious and loved the variety. the sushi rice was a little too rice vinegary for my taste but still fine for me. i love nigiri, so i think the cost is worth it while others may not be so keen! there's lots of seating inside and even a patio area. our waitress was great and very attentive. this is a nice restaurant for date nights or when you want to splurge a little more for the quality!

My friend and I stopped in for a quick bite before dinner as we were absolutely starving after wandering around for the afternoon and knew we only wanted to share a couple quick snacks. We were promptly greeted and sat in the covered garage inside/outside area. It was nice given that we wanted the ambiance of outside without the excess street noise of the highway and Bridge Street traffic. Once we sat down, we decided to order the edamame and gyoza and both were absolutely delicious! I loved the edamame as they put butter on it so the garlic salt was actually on there and you could really taste it instead of just a hint, which was lovely. The gyoza though was lovely as they actually already put the "dipping sauce" on top and tossed the gyoza, which made it cleaner and easier. It definitely was glazed, as the name told you, and it was lovely! I hear they have happy hour everyday now so I definitely want to come back and check that out!

Best sushi/asian cuisine I've had a GR so far. The place is big, same layout as Maru, but overall I think the food is better. Service was great and quick. No alcohol yet, but they said they should get their license in around 6 weeks. Yakisoda and gyoza were so good. Sushi was also amazing, also got an avocado roll and it tasted fresh.

The food is okay - the fish doesn't seem to be fresh on the sushi rolls and the miso soup has too much miso almost.

Sapporo is not about to break that trend! Right off the bat, the vibe is chill and the staff is welcoming. I go for the Takoyaki and Hakata modern. The Takoyaki is absolutely delicious. Wonderful balance of texture and salt vs sweet. Easily top 3 I've had. On to the ramen....which I was ready to be super hyper critical on. Hakata modern features Tonkotsu pork broth, chashu, ajitsuke tamago, menma, beansprouts, garlic oil, umami dama, and scallions. Final verdict? The broth is rich and flavorful, and there is plenty of it! The ramen egg is a tab bit overdone and the chasu can be a little more tender but who am I kidding? It's pretty damn good! The best part of all? Sapporo sits at a very reasonable price point while not compromising on high quality. All in all, very much worth a trip while in the area. Sapporo slides right into my go to lineup :-)

We stopped for lunch slightly after the lunch rush and still found a crowded restaurant. We were seated quickly and despite being pretty busy, our server was great and the kitchen was as well because our wait for food once ordered was minimal. We ordered Gyoza, Bao, Spicy tuna rolls and Big Shrimp Tempura rolls. 1. Gyoza-fantastic. Pan fried just enough to bring out the flavor of the ingredients and wrapper. Most places overcook gyoza and while still decent, are not nearly as good as these were. 2. Bao. Once I tried these out of town I was hooked. Have-not seen them one any menu until I came here. Perhaps I will order this way next time but there is so many other dishes that need to be tried. 4. Big Shrimp Tempura. Wonderful.
