I'm not sure why this location has so few stars.... The food here was absolutely exceptional and I plan on coming back here again. The calamari was delicious, the sushi was great, and I have no complaints with service. The location deserves more love and I highly recommend

Checked out Nagoya after hearing about it from a couple friends. Seated right away it seems like a narrow space with limited seating and a kitchen in the back. I didn't look further but the decor was nice with some Asian elements. We ordered sake right away for our beverage and both enjoyed it. I ordered the sashimi deluxe which comes with 18 pcs of fish with a bowl of sushi rice for $32. Along with white tuna nigiri and scallop nigiri. Loved everything!! Weston ordered the crunchy crab roll which he seemed to really enjoy and also got his fave smoked salmon nigiri. The servers were both nice and attentive. I felt like I was being asked if I needed anything a lot but I'd rather have that than be ignored. Good experience. Would come back again to try more! They have hibachi dinners and SO many sushi rolls on their menu so I have a lot to try when I come back:)

We got delivery so we didn't experience the service here but we did get our food in a timely manner! The food was good but nothing too exciting. Some of the dishes lacked flavor and the salmon Nirgir didn't taste very fresh. If you're looking for a sushi option there are better choices in GR!

We love coming here with friends for the hibachi dinner. Service is always great and it's a fun environment.

Very quick service- got my order pretty quickly. It I can be pretty hidden! It doesn't hold a lot seats so I would suggest making a reservation. If you can park on rainbow road that would be best. Division is currently under construction! It is cute and intimate vibes. I loved the vegetable tempura roll and the hibachi menu is always a good bet! Always order yum yum sauce and teriyaki sauce!

So happy to have an ayce sushi in GR! Great food and great service. I was impressed that one waitress covered the whole lunch crowd with ease.

I saw that they finally opened another restaurant in this spot and knew I had to try it. If I could give 3.5 stars, I probably would but I'd round up closer to 4. Nagoya is conveniently located off of Divison/Monroe Center (where Osteria Rossa used to be) and I love the idea of another sushi place being downtown! We arrived right as they opened (11am) for lunch and it took a few minutes for someone to greet us and seat us, but once that happened, the service was great! He was super friendly and attentive. Given it was lunch, we wanted to keep it simple and decided to save hibachi for another night. Plus, we love sushi so we opted to get a lunch sushi combo instead! I went with my classic rainbow and California roll. While my boyfriend got the California and sashimi combo. This is not the best sushi I've ever had but I would say it's the best I've had in downtown GR. People may argue with me on that since I know there are many that love Maru, but I would probably consider going here instead. It was reasonably priced, easy to get to (I walked so just be warned it's downtown parking) and we ordered basic items. The fish was fresh and good sized rolls, so I'd come back if I was around the area and wanted some sushi!

Portion was very respectable, meant for a shareable appetizer but it was just me lol. The ricotta is a delicious touch. Then the hangar steak. It's the best steak I can remember having in a long time, and on a relatively inexpensive cut such as a hangar. I just can't express enough how impressed I was with it. And I'm not a sauce with steak type but the aioli just completes it so well. 5/5, and I'm pretty picky. If I come back to Grand Rapids I will visit here at least once.

The menu isn't big; primarily prime cut steaks, a few entree alternatives, and some appetizers/salad options. We had 2 PEI oysters to try, and then we each ordered a steak (he got the cowboy ribeye and I got the Kansas City), and we shared the brussel sprouts and au gratin potatoes sides. Steaks were cooked perfectly! The sides were both really good too; the potatoes could've used a little more salt, but that's a minor criticism. The menu said the sides serve 3-4, but the two of us could've finished them both if we really tried. Our waitress gave me a peanut butter brownie to-go, complimentary for my birthday. Fries and brussels were delicious, but the lobster mac is overrated (bland) and our steaks were mediocre. Both were slightly overcooked (not a dealbreaker, but for $85/each I'd expect better). Add in the fact that they just drown them in butter and salt to hide the poor cooking (somehow, very little sear and barely any grill marks on one of the two steaks). Service was excellent - I'll give it that, but it was a little slow at the end once our meal had concluded to get us packed up / being a check. Atmosphere - it feels upscale, but that's just because of the prices and menu selection / options. Food came out quickly, portions were good for the price. They also validate parking for the lot just behind their building (street parking is tight / limited). Unfortunately, it's unlikely that we'd come back. Good news is, there are lots of other options for special occasions in town so weigh your options before booking here.

They were talking to one another, and it was probably work related, but to just stand there staring at them for a couple minutes while they ignored us was awkward. When they finally talked to us they weren't very friendly. Anyway, we made our way to the bar and it was full except for 3 seats. I think the bartender waiting on us was new. He seemed like he was pretty overwhelmed/in the weeds. He greeted us quickly and brought us waters when he did, which I appreciated. I ordered a Blackeberry Bourbon Sour and my Mr had Paloma Nuestra. We both enjoyed our drinks they were refreshing and well crafted. For dinner I had a really hard time deciding! I wanted to try so many things! Our bartender said his favorite thing in the menu is the chicken and rice bowl. That was something I was considering and decided to go with that. Excellent recommendation! The chicken was flavorful and so tender. The hot peppers were a nice touch. There was a lot of food too! I couldn't finish it all. What a disappointment, but not nearly as much as our experience at 123 Tavern. We came in at 4:15PM before the Brandi Carlile show needing a table for a party of 8-10. The place was fully booked (but only half full at that time) except the bar (first-come, first-served). Fair enough -- but from the moment we walked up, the manager at the host stand couldn't have cared less. She quoted a two-hour wait, shut down my question about sitting outside with a flat no, and pointed us toward the bar. No sense of customer service at all. Like zero. The three of us who were there took the last open seats at the bar. Then came the real show: one bartender for the entire restaurant AND bar. He ignored us for ten minutes. My wife and friend got their beers quickly -- but my bourbon sat finished at the service station for another seven minutes while I watched the large ice cube melting as it marinated there. When I finally asked where my drink was, I got "I'm working on it." When he did finally bring it, he pushed it across the bar at me -- no apology, no eye contact, his attention on anything but me. I'll be honest about what I can't prove: I've worked in this industry a long time, and the whole thing read like my service got intentionally slow-walked. My drink held back while everyone around me was taken care of. Maybe the front manager said something after our rocky start at the host stand. Maybe they're just all bad at their jobs. I can't tell you which. I can only tell you how obvious it felt from the barstool. Everything after was the same; menus, ordering, closing out, all a slog. I had to hunt down that same manager for our check so we could get to the show, and she was all attitude, zero help. We only escaped because my wife flagged a server who found a another manager. His response to hearing all this? "I'm sorry." Nothing else. No attempt to make it right. For the first time in my life, I left $0 on a $100 tab. I'm a 25%+ tipper. That's how badly this went. Here's the thing, 123 Tavern: if you're going to bill yourself as a place to gather before events, staff the place and train your managers to act like they want customers there. Until then, I'll spend my money somewhere that values it.
