Came here for lunch with my sister. It was such a nice day so we chose to sit outside. It is right on the street so I just wanna caution people that it can get pretty loud during the day with lots of trucks and deliveries stopping and going around the surrounding businesses. We shared some shrimp shumai and a few sushi rolls. The spider roll was tasty, sushi overall tasted good. The shumai was good although I could tell they weren't homemade. The sauce was a bit too sweet so I just added some soy sauce to balance it out. We had a nice server and it was about $70 including tip for an app and 3 sushi rolls. read more

Thank goodness for Ato Sushi. My kids aren't super picky eaters, but they are children and they like what they like. And what they like -- and what they both can agree on in a dining-out situation -- is sushi. Well, California rolls. Do California rolls count as sushi? Don't answer that. In any case, we were in Grand Rapids and looking for a place to eat. My youngest, as he is sometimes wont to do, was a breath away from melting down. He was tired and hungry. The situation was getting dire. Suddenly, in the distance, we spotted Ato Sushi. Yes! Sushi would save the evening. It turned out: Sushi DID save our evening! The service at Ato Sushi was friendly and efficient, my favorite combo. We were able to sit down at a table, order drinks immediately, and then order food almost immediately after that. Once we ordered, our food came out quickly. We got edamame to share, which was perfectly steamed and slightly salted. We also got the vegetable tempura to share, which was a pile of battered and fried onion rings, and slices of sweet potato and zucchini. We ordered a few different rolls: The California roll (of course), as well as a rainbow roll and a spicy number that I forget the name of. All of our sushi was fresh and delicious. We loved what we ate so much that we ordered another rainbow roll, just because. We left satisfied but not overly full, which is what I love about dining on sushi. It's always just enough. We visited during an off time (early dinner), so there were plenty of seats to choose from. But toward the end of our visit, the tables were quickly filling up. Kind of a mixed bag at this place the other night. We showed up 30 mins before they closed. Had we known they were going to rush us to have us out the door so they could lock it before closing time, we wouldn't have gone. The good: prices are reasonable, the spring rolls were fantastic, and one of the three sushi rolls I had was really good. The bad: the salad needed to be cut up and the dressing was sloppy, edamame didn't taste like anything, two of the three sushi rolls were just fair, and they don't seem to serve alcohol. Even though we tried to order to get things somewhat spaced out, everything came within five mins after ordering. Our bill came a few mins later. And they basically asked for us to pay right then since they were closing soon. Then they said, oh no rush, take your time, but then two more people came by to remind us they were closing. I've never gone from showing up, to eating what should've been a three-course sushi meal, to leaving in 20 mins. Just not a great experience overall. read more

This place had great reviews, so I had high expectations that were unfortunately not met. The sweet potato roll and the veggie delight rolls were pretty disappointing. They weren't very flavorful and each piece was massive- I could barely fit it in my mouth! I felt slightly embarrassed eating and have to use my teeth to chomp the pieces in half. The crab Rangoons and miso soup were decent, but I feel like you can't really get those wrong. My husband said his trio of rolls were pretty good. They don't have sake either, so we ate fairly quickly and left so we could grab a drink somewhere else. read more

Ato Sushi is a wonderful, budget-friendly sushi option on Monroe Avenue. The staff are very friendly, and this spot is pretty busy even on a Monday night. Seating is limited, but the environment is very cozy by the window to the street within view at all tables. I had the New York roll and salmon sashimi. The roll was good, despite being much larger than bite-sized. I didn't give this spot five stars, because the sashimi had not been cut properly (against the grain with thin, even slices). I came here last night with a friend while we were visiting GR. The restaurant was quite small, but it wasn't very busy. I dont know how weekends are. We were sat immediately and left to look at the menus. We were in a little bit of a rush so we looked quickly and waited for our waitress to come. It look about 10 minutes before she came back, no big deal. We got the crab rangoons to share and they were good, nothing special. Then I ordered the Bulgogi Box, which was very flavorful! We started with the potato croquettes which were fried perfectly. Crispy on outside and fluffy on the inside, slightly sweet. I also got the spicy chicken dinner bento box. It was a lot of food and all of it was delicious. If you like gochujang, you'll like the spicy chicken. It def had some heat to it but I still enjoyed it. Service was inattentive and borderline rude. I suspect this place gets most of its business from its proximity to The Amway. Many tables were already filled at 5PM, but based on their current Yelp ratings, it's not so surprising. We both had the house salad, which was fresh, but the ginger dressing was more gelatinous than ground ginger. Still very tasty. We shared a bowl of edamame, and lobster Rangoon (SO GOOD). My husband had the caterpillar roll, which he loved. I had Tamago sashimi (scant pieces), but still loved it, and a Philadelphia roll with fresh salmon. Oh sooo yummy. Enjoyed "rolls" we ordered, and service was friendly and relatively efficient (only 1 table server in mid-afternoon). Overall, rated 4.0+ experience for excellent food quality, service and relaxing ambience. Expect to pay $4-5 for each Sushi/Sashimi, $~$10 for Regular rolls, and $15-20 for Specialty rolls ... not an inexpensive lunch, but very fresh sushi and tasty eats! Wanted a lighter meal today, so ordered a Seaweed salad as shared starter, really good IF you're a seaweed fan! Then shared a Spicy Tuna roll, Rainbow roll and a Black Dragon roll. I thought the Black Dragon roll with Eel, Avocado, Shrimp Tempura and Crab salad was the best!! Rainbow roll was fresh, with salmon and tuna slices very tender to eat; yellowtail was OK. Spicy Tuna was not as chunky as I prefer, however was flavorful and mixed well with just the right spiciness. And fresh ginger made a great palette cleanser. Ato Sushi is in a prime downtown location but it's not a place I seek out often. Nate and I were in the area recently and decided to get dinner. It was a nice evening so we opted to sit outside - their patio is a little area on the sidewalk in front, so it can be a bit loud with street noise, but we didn't mind. We were seated right away and our server was very efficient. We ordered the spicy salmon and avocado, spicy California, fire island, and spicy shrimp tempura rolls as well as the tempura veggie appetizer. The appetizer came out quickly and was perfectly portioned with two pieces of each veggie (onion, broccoli, zucchini, and sweet potato). The tempura was light and crispy and we really liked this. The rolls were generously sized - the fire island roll had 10 pieces! The variety we chose was a little boring as every roll was covered in spicy mayo - delicious, but they all ended up tasting the same. The sushi was good, but not excellent. They also have Korean menu items which I'd be curious about trying in the future. Overall a decent spot for sushi, but next time I'm downtown I think I'll stick with my regular place (Sushi Yama). read more

So this is the second time I've been here. The first time, I got their bulgogi (which is pretty good), and this time, I got their sundubu. The bulgogi from last time was good - the vegetables tasted fresh, and the beef was flavorful. The sundubu is a bowl I cannot recommend; the size is good (I had to take home some leftovers), and the rice was cooked well, but the sundubu was not... very good. The soup was on the watery side and did not have much flavor. I wish there was more seafood in the soup. But tofu tasted pretty good though! But of course, the soup itself could have used much more flavor. I gave it four stars because my experience with the bulgogi was really good and I would recommend. The combination of the fresh tasting vegetables and hot and warm beef was good! Servir was great and very polite! Cute and small place. read more

Menu is extensive, service was quick, hostess was pleasant and personable and took care of our extra requests. We did have a go-to restaurant before the DeVos events. Now we have a new one.
