I came here for dinner and enjoyed my experience! Located in the west village, this cozy spot has both bar and table seating. When we came, we booked at 7:30pm reservation, but they accidentally had it down as 7pm and booked another table at our seats at 8pm. So unfortunately, we weren't able to sit at the bar the entire time and had to be moved to a table. Not the biggest deal, but I think I would've enjoyed my meal a lot more at the bar. Otherwise, service was great. They were attentive and I also loved how they didn't put the next course onto your plate until you've finished your most recent one (some places stack them and it feels rushed). We did their 13-course omakase and everything was delicious! I thought their cuts were thick, and the rice ratio was perfect. Dined at Kazumi for dinner and will be returning! It's a cute 12 seat omakase sushi counter for $75, plus there are add ons you can make after the omakase. My friend was running incredibly late, so they offered to seat me and start the service without her, or our service might feel a little rushed. I chose the latter and never felt rushed the entire time. The seating is only for an hour, but I am so grateful they didn't turn me away when my friend was running so late! They have two booths if you order extra and your timing runs over, so they can keep with the flow of the next reservations. The fish was amazing and tasted so fresh. So many pieces were melt in your mouth good! They made a substitution for me for the uni course with mackerel, and that was probably the only piece I didn't love. We had a fantastic experience at Kazumi celebrating my friend's birthday. This was the first time I've been to an omakase where we were the only 2 people at that seating. We went around lunch time on a weekend. Every piece was super fresh and delicious. For 75 per set, it was so wonderful! I have very hard time finding places that accommodate my soy allergy and Wayne was very kind and patient. He even customized my pieces to have salt and yuzu after learning I like yuzu. My friend and I had a 6 PM reservation this past Friday. For 75 per person, we enjoyed 12 pieces of nigiri, a small cup of complimentary sake, and a dessert to finish. The ambiance was nice for an omakase, with warm lighting and a cozy color scheme, but nothing particularly remarkable. The chefs only interacted with us when presenting each piece of nigiri to explain what we were about to eat. Overall, we were impressed with the quality and freshness of the fish! Here were our thoughts: KANPACHI (AMBERJACK) - The flavor of fish was on the lighter side and a nice texture, with a nice little salt and wasabi kick that was a pleasant surprise. MADAI (SEA BREAM) - The sea salt paste on top of the fish had a basil-like flavor, and the fish had a mild, delicate taste. It wasn't my favorite because I prefer stronger tasting fish. KING SALMON - A smooth, savory, fatty piece of salmon, topped with sweet miso that added a lovely touch. HAMACHI (YELLOWTAIL) - The yellowtail was fresh and delightful, with chives underneath that enhanced its flavor. It was fatty and high quality. SAWARA (SPANISH MACKEREL) - This piece was smoky with most of the flavor coming from the smoke itself. The fish was creamy, slightly gritty, with a slightly fishy aftertaste. HOUSE SAKE - In between the pieces, we were served a small cup of house sake. It was smooth and not too bitter, though I'm not much of an alcohol person. BABY SQUID - Three baby squids drizzled with a sweet miso sauce on top of rice wrapped with a piece of nori. This was unique -- softer than chewy, almost melting in your mouth -- and enhanced by the miso. HOKKAIDO HOTATE (SCALLOP) - The scallop was topped with a bit of charcoal salt. The flavor was clean, and it melted in your mouth with a subtle, sweet sea taste. BLUEFIN TUNA - The tuna was buttery and soft with a cleaner taste. I could taste the soy sauce more with this piece. CHUTORO (MEDIUM FATTY TUNA) - The chutoro was lightly torched and topped with a generous amount of caviar. Unfortunately, the smoky flavor from the torching overpowered the caviar, but the contrast between the cool caviar and warmly seared fish was nice. The fish melted in my mouth, providing a delightful, buttery bite. HOKKAIDO UNI - The uni was creamy, chilled, and sweet with a deep orange color. It was a rich and delightful bite, definitely one of my favorites -- very fresh. A5 WAGYU - The piece of wagyu was torched, lightly salted, and topped with truffle flakes. The flavor was incredible -- earthy, smoky, and fatty in the best way possible. HOKKAIDO UNAGI (EEL) - The eel was coated with a sweet miso sauce that had almost a floral note. It was more filling and dense compared to other eels I've had, and not slimy at all. CHEESECAKE - The cheesecake was a good, creamy, light dessert to end the meal. It had a torched sugar layer, but it wasn't mind-blowing. Our favorite pieces were the king salmon, yellowtail, scallop, bluefin tuna, uni, and wagyu! One thing my friend and I didn't love about our Kazumi Omakase experience was how rushed we felt to leave. Each piece of fish came out quickly, leaving us with very little time to enjoy the food or talk about what we've eaten between courses. Additionally, we were still hungry after the omakase and went somewhere else for a second dinner. Right off the bat 10/10 for me , the service was great from taking our coats to seating us and take down our drink order and making sure we were taken care of throughout our experience . The place had two tables but it's mostly counter space the seat were a place holder for people waiting to be seated. The counter seats were great , the seats were comfortable I didn't feel like I was slouching, the spacing was perfect I didn't feel like I was on top of someone else , some seats had hooks under for your bag. The best part about all is ... the omakase selection was delicious, the rice to fish portions were just right , the toppings were well paired. 13 course is never enough for me so I order a Toro hand roll and another piece nigiri, it was yummy. Our reservation was at 5pm for a group of four! Seated immediately and greeted by the server who asked about drinks and dietary restrictions. We had one guest who has tree nuts and pepper allergies but there were no issues. The chef serving us also asked about allergies and confirmed there would be no issues for the course. The bar was completely packed and people were talking at normal volume, which I liked because it lead to a much more chill and friendly atmosphere during the meal! The omakase had 13 courses (12 nigiri + dessert), with the general flavor profile of the pieces starting from light and getting progressively heavier throughout the meal. I have to say the food was soooo good. Everything was seasoned so well and tasted very fresh. Even our party member who doesn't like nigiri that much loved every bite. I was especially pleased because in my experience, even at high end omakase restaurants, I tend to not like the scallop and eel courses due to the texture of the fish. But here even the scallop and eel were soft, not too chewy, no bones, so good. The hojicha creme brûlée at the end was also delicious-- not too sweet, good tea flavor, and came in a really cute ramekin and spoon set. We also ordered sake and some sparkling yuzu drinks which were all tasty as well. The restaurant also gave everyone at the counter a glass of the house sake for free which was very kind of them haha. Everyone was definitely having a good time. I will note thirteen courses is on the lighter side quantity wise, so if you're a big eater or coming extremely hungry you may still want something after. However, everyone in our party was satisfied with the 14 courses we had (we ordered one bonus salmon round). I do wish there was a liiiittle more time to sit and idle, since the 1 hour timeframe given is a bit tight and they need to immediately seat the next wave of guests once your meal is done. But we did not feel rushed to leave so it was fine! Overall, it was a great meal! I will preface by saying this was my very first Omakase experience EVER and I'm so glad it was at Kazumi. We had a 9pm reservation and arrived 15-20 minutes early. They took our coats and we sat in the waiting area at the front and were quickly provided a beverage menu and cold waters while taking in the beautiful restaurant and unique omakase bar and lack of a traditional dining room. We tried the Yuzu Sake to start and it was rather sweet but enjoyable. I think it would've been better enjoyed while eating sushi rather than by itself. I will also say -- their drink menu features wine, beer, sake, and sparkling juice. You will not be enjoying iced tea or soft drinks as they simply don't have them, FYI. We were sat right around 9pm and provided with fresh waters. We were asked by the chef if we had any dietary restrictions and we confirmed we did not. We ordered a bottle of the Cantaloupe Sake this time -- 375ml for $30. It was well worth it as the bottle lasted us the remainder of our meal. Especially because we were provided with a round of sake on the house to follow while we enjoyed our dessert course. The Omakase experience is $75 per person and includes 13 courses, the final one being a dessert course. Most of the bites were nigiri. We enjoyed Otoro with Kaluga caviar, Yellowtail, Mackerel (one of our favorites), A5 Wagyu torched, scallop, King Salmon, a Toro hand roll, Uni, and Eel with foie gras among a few others. Everything was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed. I liked how it was simple and really allowed you to enjoy the freshness of the fish in its purest form, rather than loading it up with a million toppings that end up covering that flavor. The chefs and wait staff were so kind, lighthearted, and took a true interest in making a wonderful experience for each and every guest. They even provided the option to forego the sweet dessert and instead have an additional piece of your favorite course, which I thought was a nice personal touch. This has become one of my favorite omakase spots! The service deserves a 10/5 it was fantastic. The care and detail for entering to leaving was on a whole different level. After a few disappointing omakase Kazumi brings back the love and passion. All the pieces tasted so amazing and fresh. Easy on the sauce and letting the ingredients shine in the best way! Definitely would recommend an add on at the end. We tried a few and they were totally worth it! They took my shellfish allergy into account and were very thoughtful in the replacements.
