Great omakase at an incredible price for Michelin recognized. We went with the sushi counter, Classic featuring 17 pieces before supplemental add ons. Each bite was exceptional with enhancements including yuzu, aged soy, and other flavorful toppings. We skipped the sake pairing opting instead for a beautiful bottle of Sancerre. Service was unobtrusive, friendly and helpful. Big plus to chef for asking midway through the tasting if we wanted to reduce the rice to fish ratio so we wouldn't overfill on rice. Excellent! Go

My first omakase experience and I'd go back. The sushi here is so fresh and I particularly liked the fact that you could opt out of some of the pre-fixe option (I don't love uni, so I opted out of that). This was a very traditional experience and the servers tell you so much about each piece before you eat them. We had two left-handed people in our party and they even adjusted each round so it wasn't difficult to grab each piece with their dominant hand. A great experience for anyone looking for a omakase sushi experience!

Wow - we did the chefs omakase which is basically I believe 17 pieces and 3 appetizers. At first I was hesitant with the add on but now that we have had it. Try the appetizers. It was so good. I especially loved the soup which was a fish with king crab and an infusion of (something I don't remember). We also had the Wagyu beef tartare with caviar and crispy dill layered on top of an extra crispy seaweed. Again, something I don't normally reach for but was also very good. We loved how clean everything was and how everyone was in sync with each other. Sitting at the bar is def a must. The toro nigiri "flight" was amazing. My absolute fav was the Kama-toro (cheeks) It was super fresh and melt in your mouth! The tamago at the end .. was also very surprisingly good. I didn't think much of it until I had my first bite. Same goes for the green tea and crème brûlée. This was a first Michelin experience for us and am glad it was here. Parking was also not bad. We parked right outside and left our jackets in the car. But they also have a coat check upon entering. By the time we left, there were more spots open right across the street.

After Shin Bay in Scottsdale, Sushi Nakazawa is easily the best sushi my husband and I have ever had. The whole evening felt seamless, from the effortless online reservation to being seated within minutes and welcomed by a server who clearly knew the menu inside and out. We chose the 18-course omakase, and my husband added the sake pairing, which ended up being its own adventure. He said each pour felt personally matched to the fish. I wish I'd kept track of every piece, but part of the joy was letting the progression unfold. Each bite somehow outdid the last. The sea urchin was my personal standout - pure, silky perfection. We left wonderfully, almost comically full. A tiny note: dessert. They served a "Japanese crème brûlée," but we weren't quite sure what made it Japanese. A little context would've tied it together. Overall, the experience was worth every penny. If you're looking for a Michelin-star meal that feels intentional and memorable, Sushi Nakazawa absolutely delivers for a special occasion.

Cozy little store front on a quaint residential looking street. The hostess was friendly and the server was fun and engaging. The BEST Omakase I have enjoyed to date.

Celebrated a birthday at Sushi Nakazawa and they did not disappoint. Terrific sushi and we added the A5 Wagyu Nigiri which was wonderful. We sat at the counter near Executive Chef Shawn Li who was friendly and personable. Overall, wonderful sushi with impeccable service.

West coast omakase places r plenty with the contemporary style omakase with complex flavors but Sushi Namazawa felt simple, classic, focusing on the quality softness of the fish. I dont remember having as soft cuts and simplistic while still being surprised by the seasonal flavors, like yuzu, pepper leaf, lemony, and alot of blow torch smoky flavor. We were right in front of chef for lunch and got to interact and got to see our reactions to each piece. My bf and i loved the experience, excellent fish, service, flavors and such a good value for a Michelin star restaurant. Thank u Chef!

Came here for my second time after two years and honestly didn't have as great of an experience. The fish was really good, the uni, the salmon, the tuna, but I just didn't have a great experience with the staff and ambiance. First of all the bathroom was DISGUSTING. It smelled so bad and almost ruined my appetite before the meal. The host also came off as kind of rude. It was weird to me how we had to wait for 15 minutes to be seated even when our seats were empty. I also think a dessert would be nice after such an expensive tasting. Apples were good but... didn't leave me satisfied as a final bite.

Amazing ambiance. Phenomenal customer service. Extremely knowledgeable. The sushi was pure quality and craftsmanship.

Very attentive staff. Super fresh fish. Sat at the end of the bar and got to see the chefs prepping some of the hot stuff along with preparing the fish. The one downside is that their portable stove tops make really high pitched noises when heating up, but you eventually get used to it. Did the original omakase which was 21 pieces for 190.

Celebrating a birthday at Sushi Nakazawa is less of a dinner reservation and more of an entrance into a beautifully choreographed world where sushi becomes performance art--and you're the very lucky audience. This is high-end omakase with a capital O, and it delivers on every quiet, exquisite detail. From the moment we were seated--three of us at the counter--we knew we were in good hands. Two servers emerged in perfect synchrony, placing plates before us as if conducting a culinary ballet. It was subtle, deliberate, and oddly soothing. Then, in a moment of quiet brilliance, they noticed I'm left-handed. Without a word, every single round after that was presented in reverse, just for me. Not a single "oh wow you're lefty!" announcement, just graceful, thoughtful accommodation. That kind of attentiveness? Rare. And deeply appreciated. As for the sushi itself--every piece was a study in balance, temperature, texture, and technique. Impossibly fresh, impeccably cut, and served at the exact second it wanted to be eaten. Each bite made the case for silence at the table, not because it's stiff or formal, but because you just want to focus. Truly, sushi that demands your full attention--and rewards it. Now, the one hiccup. At one point, my phone--traitor that it is--accidentally flashed mid-photo. And the server's reaction was immediate and intense, cutting through the serene atmosphere like a needle drop in a meditation room. I understand the sanctity of the experience, and that preserving ambiance is important, but the reaction was... a bit jarring. It momentarily shifted the mood from reverent to rattled. That said, it was a blip in an otherwise extraordinary evening. The service was still exceptional, the ambiance largely serene, and the experience--especially for a birthday--felt thoughtful and refined in a way that's hard to come by, even at this level. In short: Sushi Nakazawa is a masterclass in detail and discipline. Come hungry, come respectful, maybe leave the flash at home--but absolutely come.

Definitely one of the better value Omakases in New York. Not only was each piece delicious, but the service went above and beyond as well. Ambiance was very intimate and formal. It's great for dates, celebrations, and smaller groups. Overall, I definitely plan to come back and try their other menu.

Ordered: Chef's Omakase (~$190): 21pc omakase including green tea and creme brûlée A5 Wagyu Nigiri (~$18) Glass of Bijofu 'Hina' Sake (~$32): Junmai Daiginjo, Kochi Aya's take: Exceptional experience at the infamous Sushi Nakazawa! For those who don't know, the revered sushi chef Jiro Ono trained & taught chef Nakazawa for many years. Sushi Nakazawa offers a traditional, elevated, and intimate omakase experience. You can expect all the pieces to be high quality, well-thought out, and yet very simple! The 21pc has enough variety to keep it interesting and was definitely enough to be filling. I was absolutely stuffed by the end of it; this actually ended up being my only meal that day. The A5 Wagyu Nigiri is a must get! It was so fatty, buttery, and the definition of "melts in your mouth". It's absolutely worth the ~$18 splurge. They have a vast sake selection and after some deliberation, I went with a Glass of Bijofu 'Hina' Sake per my waitress's recommendation. It was light, citrusy and aromatic. The medium-light body and clean flavors made this perfect to wash down the omakase with. Amazing way to celebrate my birthday!

Ask the Community - Sushi Nakazawa

There don't appear to be any lunch reservations on Resy. Is that right? If so, is it safe for 2 people to just arrive when they open, or is there a line requiring earlier arrival to be safe?

I see lunch availability on Resy! We made a reservation for lunch, and from my observation, it seems to be strictly reservations only.

    How's the parking situation?

Street parking, they're not affiliated with any garage from the last time I asked.

How is sushi counter experience different than the sushi lounge experience?

At the counter , there's an extra toro hand roll

Is there anything we can order for kid?

Hello! The entire menu is Omakase style, so it's a tasting menu chosen by the restaurant. There's no "menu" to choose food items. You may want to call the restaurant first and let them know of your kid's food preferences to make sure.

Is your sushi rice made with sugar?

Is tip and tax included in the price?

    No it's not.

What's the difference between the sushi counter and the lounge counter?

not much, same serving style as the sushi counter. only noticed slightly different reservation time slots for lounge and sushi counter

What nights does Chef Nakazawa work?

He doesn't have a set schedule as he spreads out his time between other locations and frequently travels back to Japan, so sadly there's no way to know until you're there yourself.

Do they do sashimi or only sushi?

If you're asking if they do rolls? No. I don't think they do sashimi either. Just nigiri.

Can you order from their a la carte menu only? From the reviews it seems like you have to order the omakase menu and then may supplement from an a la carte menu if you wish.

How many pieces do you get for each omakase set for 120$ set and 150$ set?

21 pieces for the $150 set

Do they have reservations for a single person at the sushi bar? Resy only shows availability for two or more in the evenings and when you switch to one person it shows no availability. Should I book for 2 though I am one?

I would not do that, as they could charge you for two spots. Call them and ask.

Price for omakase per person 2019?

Just went today and the price was $180 for the counter and $150 for dining room.

Athletic shoes acceptable? My wife and I are planning on dressing smartly for dinner, but since we're going to be on our feet all day and again after dinner our regular dress shoes would be murder. Do we need to carry a backup pair with us all day?

I was there the other night with athletic running shoes. I didn't feel uncomfortable or out of place. It's an expensive restaurant so you may see others dressed up more but you can do as you like

How long should I give myself for lunch? Is 1 hour 30 minutes enough, or too rushed? Thank you!!

I think too rushed, I did dinner here and they keep up the pace pretty well but you don't want to rush this meal!!!!!

Can you make changes to the omakase, for example if you wanted no shell fish or kosher?

Be assured. The chef does the koshering process as learned in Japan as a young boy.

    Any vegetarian option?

No. It's a sushi omakase restaurant.

Do you have to order omakase, it seems that way on the website.. I wanted to surprise my bestfriend as he loves sushi but I only eat vegetarian rolls is there any way around it?

Per their website: "Please inform our staff of any dietary restrictions or allergies. We are unable to accommodate a vegetarian diet, or diet that does not include raw fish.… Read more

Is there a difference between sitting at the bar vs dinner? I cant seem to get a reservation for the bar

The bar is MUCH cooler. It's a spectacle and worth The patience - but, of course, that's what everyone wants.

We're going there for lunch. Is it the same omakase menu as dinner?

I believe so. And after, you can order pieces a la carte if you'd like via an expanded menu option. when you make the reservation, you'll see the note - "We serve only an omakase tasting menu prepared by Chef Daisuke Nakazawa"

I've taken a lot of friends here over the course of 10 years, and without fail, every one of them has walked out mindblown--and why wouldn't they?! The wait times have gotten better over the years (probably because people are waiting for the restaurant next door), but the food and drinks here are still top-notch. Staff is always great, and they all work so efficiently. I am generally a fan of izakayas, but there are very few that offer plates that are designed to be shareable, and this is one of the reasons the food here is so enjoyable in a small group setting. I am obviously biased and think they can do no wrong, but some of my staples that have stood the test of time: Kimchi cream udon, avocado tofu salad, salmon sashimi tacos, and the kani cream croquettes. I was so excited when they opened an outpost in Flushing years ago, but sadly it shuttered during COVID. We walked into a stylish, energetic space with a menu designed around sharing, making it a good option for a casual dinner or group meal. The interior has a contemporary, lively feel with an open kitchen that adds energy to the room, and the seating is arranged to accommodate both small groups and larger parties comfortably. Instead of sticking strictly to traditional Japanese dishes, the menu mixes familiar flavors with more modern presentations, creating a dining experience that feels both approachable and exploratory. The standout item is the katsu, which is where the restaurant really shines. We ordered the pork loin and tenderloin versions and found the breading crisp while the meat stayed tender and juicy, the crust holding up well without becoming greasy. The mazemen is another highlight, with chewy noodles and a rich sauce that brought a lot of flavor without feeling too heavy, the sauce coating each strand evenly and the toppings adding layers of texture and depth. Beyond those, dishes like the butter scallops, corn ribs, and seafood options added variety and made it worth ordering multiple plates to share. The scallops were well seared with a buttery finish, and the corn ribs offered a smoky, slightly charred flavor that paired well with the richer dishes. The desserts are also a memorable part of the meal. The corn ice cream is one of the more unique items, with a sweet and savory flavor that sounds unusual but works surprisingly well, the sweetness of the corn balanced by a subtle savory note that kept it from feeling cloying. It fits the restaurant's overall approach of taking familiar ingredients and presenting them in a more unexpected way, and the creativity of the dessert menu feels consistent with the rest of the meal. Service and atmosphere add to the experience, with attentive staff and a lively dining room that feels suited for groups. The team checked in at the right moments and kept the pacing of the meal comfortable, and the open kitchen added a layer of engagement as we watched the dishes come together. Reservations can be difficult to get, especially during busy times, and the small plate format means the best experience comes from ordering several dishes rather than focusing on one entree. The variety across the menu encourages sharing, and the pacing of the meal works well for a longer, more social dinner. konban delivers a well-executed modern Japanese dining experience. While some of the more hyped dishes may not completely live up to expectations, the katsu, noodles, and seafood dishes make it a worthwhile visit. The combination of creativity, quality ingredients, and a lively atmosphere makes it a destination for exploring different flavors and dishes together rather than just ordering one signature item, offering a meal that feels both engaging and satisfying.
