I randomly found this auto shop through Yelp. Based on reviews from others, I decided to take my beat up 2005 Camry for an oil change and state inspection. Unlike other places where they over charge you for an oil change, minimal cost in labor and fair prices for parts. Even for the state inspection, they gave me a call that a light bulb needed to be changed. I could've done it myself, but based on the fair price that they quoted, I decided to let them go ahead, to minimize the hassle, and maximize my freedom. This is not the place to go if want an oil change and you're in a rush or if you're looking for service with a smile. In fact, this may have been the slowest oil change I have ever experienced. Close to two hours with only one other car ahead of me when I arrived. Pretty pricey, $45 for a standard no frills oil change. However, they do a good job without trying to sell you all sorts of upgrades. Bring a good book (or two). read more

Let me begin by saying this is my second visit here for an oil change on my sedan. Excellent customer service, quick and quality service, first come first serve, free shuttle service to and from home depending on the distance, clean waiting area and restrooms, decent amount of parking to leave your car, quality oils or you can pick whatever you want (they'll order it if it's not in inventory) and finally, they're absolutely trustworthy and keep their word. The gentleman at the register in the mornings is very friendly and polite. He will explain everything you need to know. The oil changes come with inspections of all fluids and changing of oil filter. So glad I found these guys at the Shell filling station. Who would've thought of this hidden gem here? I will return for automotive needs. I recommend them! With so many dubious repair shops around, it's a rare and wonderful thing to find a trustworthy, competent shop with a friendly staff. The mechanics have always been straightforward and honest with us, do great work,and are easily accessible. When our grocery-getter recently failed state inspection, rather than recommending a bunch of unnecessary work to charge us out the wazoo, the mechanic kindly suggested retiring the car due to the dangerous degree of rust damage to the frame. James had one of his highly competent technicians throughly inspected my VW Beetle due to a chirping noise I heard. My thoughts was a failing belt tensioner and/or water pump . A detailed report was emailed to me. To my pleasant surprise, it was neither. Aged belts was the culprit. Thank you James for your honest business. I opted for his technician to replace the belts and to perform other recommended maintenance (completely flushed/replace all fluids). I was very pleased with the quoted price. Took my car in for a slow leak and tire plug. The next day the tire was low again so I took it back. They said there was another nail, and then charged me another $25. For $50 I could've gotten a new tire, and I missed an appointment because of it. Since they missed the second nail the first time the least they could've done was discount the second plug. Seems like they're overpriced and not very customer service friendly so I won't be back. read more

Wish this would be the place but it's not. Walking in, front desk greeted me and checked how long for an oil change. One hour I was told. Half hour before my turn and about half hour to complete. Took a walk and returned about half hour later and saw them drive the car to the back. Another half hour passed was still waiting. Ok no problem since a hour is never an hour. Another half hour...still nothing. 15 minutes later I ask how long and I watched the guy ask and get no answer, but he tells me soon. Another 10 minutes I ask to pay for it first and same guy tells me I have to wait for paperwork. Ok. Another 10 minutes the car is pulled out, the keys on the desk. Ok...where is the paperwork? I ask him to get the paperwork so I can pay and get outta there. He tells me I'm not the only car, but I tell him It's taken almost 2 hours and he tells me no... So if you expect speedy and excellent customer service go elsewhere. read more

I went there for an issue with one of my tire valves. The cost was fair; service was fast. (I called ahead). However, the reason for the 5th star was due to the fact they added 4 tire valve lids and corrected my air in all my tires. (no charge) It was simple but a little touch that showed me they care about their customers. read more

So finding a decent mechanic, who is honest, knowledgeable, doesn't try and make stuff up and over charge money for things, AND even more important to me is not an all around A hole is not easy to say the least. So when I moved to Burke, VA in Fairfax County and found this place 6+ years back it was a great day! KC has always been a joy to work with. He is honest and does NOT push fixes that cost more, but may not add value. He always takes ALOT of time to explain the issues and the multiple options, not just 'do this for x'. And always works to make sure you understand, are comfortable and also provides great value. He always beats the prices I get at other places or dealers by quite a bit which is a great plus, on top of being an honest easy to work with good guy. Example - he recently beat the dealer price on front and back brakes by 35-40%! I moved, but I still now go 35 minutes across town for the reliable honest and cost effective service. I can't say enough good things about this place. I have been a half dozen times or so to have repairs done on my vehicles. Every time I have left without the feeling of being taken to the cleaners, so to speak. I don't remember the last time I have visited a shop, even for an oil change, where I "needed" several things replaced so they say, not here. I just had a lower steering shaft replaced on my truck and not only did they call me 4 times to keep me apprised of every step they fixed it same day and even charged me less than the quote! What? Great neighborhood garage and gas station. Technicians have taken excellent care of our vehicles for years. The driveway entrance is a little tight coming off Burke Road, but worth waiting a moment or two for the opportunity to turn in. KC and his crew recently helped me arrange for the transport of our second vehicle while we were on the road. Thanks, KC! With the fire department next door, the post office and other small businesses nearby, this original part of Burke is as "small town" as you can find in the central Fairfax County region. read more

I have been taking my cars to KC Auto for maintenance and repair for at least 30 years primarily because K.C. and his employees are honest. During this long period of time I've owned several cars with numerous types of problems and I have never been disappointed with the quality of service provided by the mechanics and the responsiveness of the team. One great feature of their service procedure is the updates provided to the customer along the way -- no surprises. This is especially true if a significant expensive problem is discovered. I think John #1 and John #2 are the service managers. Both have been with K.C. for a long time. Both are incredibly knowledgeable and sensitive to our safety, budgets and dependence on our vehicles. On rare occasion, I've been told I can get a better price elsewhere, e.g. tires. I went there to have a flat tire fixed. This after I went to two local tire stores who appeared like they had better things to do. The guy at KC's made me feel like they appreciate the business. This was late on a Sunday night. The next morning they called to let me know it had been fixed. Being the daughter of a mechanic its hard to really trust anyone else. After moving to the area I needed someone could trust. So when I brought my luxury truck in for some work KC looked at me and told me to get rid of it because it was a money pit. They don't get more honest than that. I totally agree with all the positive comments. I brought in a Toyota Van with a broken door. Long story short, KC did some research and found out that this problem was common with this model of Van and that Toyota had extended to warrant and would repair it for free, which they did. I was so impressed I am now having them work on my Infinity and again they have been great. read more

there are not enough words to express my gratitude for the assistance I received from this shop. My son's car broke down very far from home and we had it towed to K C Auto. They diagnosed a very expensive problem (too expensive to make the repair worth doing) and allowed me to keep the car there for several weeks while I determined the best thing to do with this sudden and unexpected problem. They took photos for me, removed the easypass and mailed it to me, and generally assisted in every way possible. All this, and I did not receive a bill (but I voluntarily sent a check with my thanks). The shop had no realistic expectation that we would ever require their paid services in the future (it is about 180 miles from here), and had no commercial reason to do any of the things that they did for us, and knew that we were in a situation where they could have charged for the diagnostic, for the daily storage, for the individual services they provided and we would have had no other real options. Took my 2008 Accord to them with an electric problem.. Pd $52.50 to have problem diagnosed and about $650 plus more to have alternator replaced. The next morning the car wouldn't start. Car taken to shop and car returned to me saying the problem with the ECM system and might be covered by Hona through warranty. Took car to Honda dealership and found the problem was with an a/c electrical component. Turns out that KC automotive didn't check car after alternator was replace to see if car was drawing electricity after car was turned off. Had they done that, they would have found the problem. They are polite, but not competent.. Buyer beware read more

Have had good experiences with our Toyota, including basic maintenance and putting on new tires (they accepted delivery from Tire Rack). They treat you with respect, take time to answer questions, and gave me a ride back to the house while I left the car. I thought I'd found a good solid shop. Now, after over 1,500 in cumulative labor charges for two jobs, I've decided..not. The last 500.00 charge for labor entailed installing an after market product for the OEM one. One of the highest after market products out there, highly rated with never a reported problem. They "couldn't do it" citing manufacture defect. There was no defect. They failed to follow the provided instructions, which in turn simply led to putting the old parts back on. So, I got back what I put in, only 500.00 lighter. They will also fail you for state inspection, not adequately explain why, then when you bring the vehicle in for the work, they inevitably find need to change much more than just the state defect. Nice and personable bunch, but they use it to be a wolf in lambs clothing. Will never go back. read more
