I cannot recommend KC's enough for breakfast. My wife and I were in town for wine/beer tasting. We went to KC's the first morning for breakfast. We thought we would try other places throughout our trip but we liked KC's so much we kept coming back. The place was busy but we never waited more than 20 minutes for a table, leaving some time to walk through the beautiful downtown area. The french toast and any of the Eggs Benedict selections are fantastic. I'm not a potato guy but the potatoes that come with each meal really are special. This is pretty much my go to place in Windsor. When we are trying to figure out where to eat we pick KC's about half the time (we don't want to get burnt out on it). So about twice a month. The wait staff are awesome. Always a smile and attentive. I have had the fish and chips there a couple of times and it is nice and crisp without being oily. The nachos are enough for a meal and the pulled pork that is on it is very nice. It isn't stadium cheese. I believe the plate goes under a broiler which makes for a better nacho dish in my opinion. KC's is just across from the Villiage Green and the playground so we normally will have dinner and then go to the playground afterwards. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Indoors there is a nostalig feel with pictures old movie stars, peddle cars, etc. Outdoors is nice, they have a mister for when it gets hot and heaters if it's cooler. There are other items on the menu that I have had and I am not dissapointed with anything. My wife also likes the food she has had there. Overall I feel like this place is over rated. We jokingly said we were better off going to Dennys (price wise) which sometimes is our last resort and not to mention we live in Santa Rosa. Very good! I saw a few folks order the burgers and they looked great! The servers could be a bit more courteous. My server snacked the menu out of my hand and continued talking to me as she ran off. They are running pretty fast but observed one lady trying to ask a question and the server kept saying just a minute. This server passed her table 5 times before addressing the customer's request for a lunch menu. Note, they have 2 menus. One for breakfast and one for lunch. Strike one... obviously she wants to say everything is better than anywhere else. My wife ordered a cocktail and I of course wanted a beer..the cocktail came out in about 5 min..sigh.. Strike two.. I had to ask for my beer again and it turned out to be the wrong one. The food was not that bad.. hot meatloaf and a sourdough burger.. The meatloaf was on a bed of mashed potatoes and it was on a loaf of bread... all laid out in a large bowl and drizzled with bbq sauce. I don't do a lot of meatloafs but the wife gave it a 4/5.. The sourdough burger was pretty good just because the caramelize onions saved the meat. Without the onions the meat just tasted sort of flat 3.5/5.. Our biggest issue was just how little our server interacted with us.. Just taking care of the things like they are supposed to do.. refills, napkins ... smile...or ask how the food was....etc. Would I return?... I feel really bad about a 3 star rating but I need to be honest. Food is gut-buster all American food. I came here twice for breakfast recently and once for dinner. Nothing really jumped out at me in all three of the meals, but my companions enjoyed theirs. Ambience is cool- nice covered outdoor seating is available. Service from kitchen is fast. Follow-up service (for refills, forgotten creamer or menu items) not often enough.& I ordered blueberry pancakes and they were tasty. My bf ordered chicken and waffles and it tasted okay. For dinner I had a wrap and took a bite. It was fine but not good enough to eat. So is that fine? Bf had a "I love animals" burger and it was obnoxious, if anything. He ate half. I tasted it and it was okay. Last meal...another breakfast. I just ordered a side of bacon and tasted my bf's chicken fried steak. Chicken fried steak was very good... I think the reason why I'm giving 3 stars is because I had bacon at every meal and it was at every meal the bacon was over cooked. It's not thick, salty bacon. It's thinner and doesn't have room to be too crispy. You know how burnt garlic and throw the flavor off of a meal? That's what overcooked bacon does. It just makes everything taste like burnt sawdust. I hear the hollandaise sauce is delicious and I did taste the gravy and it was pretty great. We were still on East Coast time, so arrived right after they opened on a Saturday. We weren't the first customer there and I can see where they could easily get packed, even though there is plenty of seating inside and outside. We opted for inside since it was damp and chilly and they hadn't put the fire on yet on the patio. The inside is a diner style, with lots of eclectic signs. Service was prompt, helpful and friendly. I had to go with the "famous" Denver Potato cakes with scrambled eggs and a biscuit. Those potato cakes were amazing and my husband regretted not getting them. I've never had anything quite like them. My husband had the Betty Boop veggie omelet and picked the raspberry coffee cake as his side. He enjoyed his meal as well. SO MUCH FOOD. Two people could easily split a plate. We both thought this place was great and I almost came back two days later on my birthday, but decided to try something different instead. If I had to pick one restaurant that captures the essence of Windsor, it would be KCs. It is centrally located on the Town Green with a big patio seating area looking out over downtown and huge oak trees. KCs also has an indoor seating area with a fun vintage theme. There are loads of funny signs on the walls keeping the atmosphere cheerful and casual. Locals feel at home here, making it an ideal restaurant for visiting out-of-towners. The varied menu has something for everyone from salads, soup, appetizers, burgers, wraps, tacos, steak, salmon, chicken, and pasta to prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights. I frequently get the Street Tacos and love them every time! My friend ordered the Tri-Tip Mountain and it was plated so beautifully I had to take a picture! They have a good selection of beer and wine. I love that they carry Pineapple Ale! Be sure to leave room for dessert...the cheesecake is divine. They also have ice cream shakes! KCs wait staff are very efficient and polite! They never forget to invite us to hang out and chat after dinner. I feel right at home here! read more

I called ahead and they said that will make it work. AND BOY DID THEY EVER. We showed up within 15 mins. They were able to moved some tables together and seated us promptly. KCs American Restaurant came highly recommended by the local WorldMark by Wyndham resort and thankfully spacious outdoor seating was available. We ordered a Downtown Burger" and "Buffalo Chicken Salad" - both were so good (hot and prepared quickly even with a nice presentation)! On our way back home we returned for breakfast...here's why: #1 Chuck Davis, our server; #2 the food :). I really appreciated the hostess at the front taking people's names down so it would be sure that people got in the order they came when space was available. I hate standing awkwardly at the door or walking inside only to be told to go back out and stand somewhere. I ordered some country potatoes, and my bad- I thought it was the same as a potato pancake. If I was back in town, I would try the potato pancake. The waiter brought me scrambled eggs when I ordered poached, but he had it replaced. It was thoughtful for him to bring back my plate minus the eggs so I could eat along with my friends while waiting for the eggs. It took a while for the English muffins and coffee cake to come, but when we reminded them, they brought it over. Successfully made an online reservation on a Monday evening. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated at our table. The place was fairly busy, so after we received water for the table and menus, waited about 15 minutes until the server returned. The menu has something for everyone. We skipped appetizers and ordered a variety of salads and sandwiches. We didn't order drinks and the server kept our water glasses filled. Some 20 minutes later, the plates arrived. The salad was crisp and plentiful. The sandwiches were very well assembled. The street tacos looked amazing and the chili cheese fries were piping hot. All the plates tasted great and portions were very adequate. Attention to detail was definitely accounted for with each dish. The establishment was clean, including the restrooms. Really nice patio with good heaters. That was the highlight of our lunch. Prices are very high, $21 for a fish SANDWICH with salad. The fish was a bit fishy and way overcooked, dry as a bone. Sandwich was barely edible. Salad was OK but way too small even for a side, being charged an extra $2 to substitute a salad I think it is reasonable to expect an actual salad not just a few bites. Salad had tomatoes and mushrooms but just not enough of anything, more of a garnish than a salad. My husband ordered a hamburger which was also over $20 with cheese. I don't consider myself to be cheap but I do expect when paying over $20 a plate for a LUNCH sandwich to get quality ingredients cooked properly. The hamburger was ordered Medium Rare, it was served well done. Personally I would have sent it back but we were having a late lunch and he was hungry so he ate it anyway. Probably a good thing as our server was total MIA for our entire visit. Never offered refill of coffee, never checked in after serving food to ask how things were. Dirty plates left on the table until I flagged her down. (Dirty plates sat on table for over 15 minutes...) When I flagged her down I told her that the hamburger was way overcooked and asked her to pass that along to the cook to which I received no reply. Bottom line. NOT coming back. Seems like they started with good ingredients which were not cooked properly. Service was non existent. Prices are way too high for a restaurant with poor service and poor food preparation. It is a shame as they have a nice patio and I am a huge fan of outdoor dining. AND the whole "freedom fries" thing is so out of touch that I am embarrassed for them. 3.7 - Stumbled upon KC's today after a hike in the Foothills via Yelp. Located in the heart if the town green, KC's has a vintage theme going on in the inside and a modern heated dining patio available We opted to sit on the heated patio because it was less noisy where we can people watch. The service was great and the portions here are huge. Yes, granted the plates are more expensive than your average, the plate sizes are EXTRA LARGE. Frankly large enough for 2 or 3 people. The food service is fast as well. Despite it was a busy Sunday at 12 noon, the food came to us in less than 15 minutes. When the blue cheese burger arrived, it was oooooey goooooey fatty. The meatball sub was just as fatty, ooooozing with cheese. On the soggy side though. I would of enjoyed the meatball sandwich a little more if they took the extra step to toast the bun. Don't come here if your watching your figure or counting calories. I was eye balling the salads coming out and they looked pretty XL fatty too. Great location....great service, great menu, great portions but the over all quality sits at a 3.7 for me. Would I come back? Yes. read more
