The apple fritters are freaking amazing and big enough to send you into a sugar coma with minimal effort. They are cash only, but at $1.50, you could probably scare up enough for some delicious diabeetus by handing over the sticky change in your car's cupholder. It is a good thing they open after I leave for work and close before I get home or I would probably not be able to fit through their doorway much longer. read more

Today I finally made it to the Donut Bar in downtown San Diego. I thought, based on their reviews, that they would probably beat out KD's. Nope. Not even close. KD's has the freshest, most delicious donuts I've had anywhere, and I consider myself a donut expert. Okay, I'll grant that the glazed donut at Krispy Kreme is to die for, but it's kind of a "specialty" donut shop. For regular good ole' donuts, you will not find a better place than KD's. And that includes Petersons, which are big, but not nearly as good! The owners are hard working, and friendly, always with a smile. I'm spoiled. Best donuts in San Diego. Nothing else has come close. Being in a donut fetish family, when in Ramona, KD's is a must! I always base a donut shop on a regular glazed donut and everytime I've had one from here, it's been consistently good. The right amount of glaze, the right amount of sweet and it's always fluffy.The owner Mike is super friendly and welcoming to everyone. I think that they have the best and freshest tasting apple fritters that I have ever had. Prices are reasonable. Place is clean. Hours are short though so you have to get there early and bring cash because they don't take credit cards. 5 Stars, hands down, including the fact that they do not take credit cards. I needed a large, no, extremely large order of donut holes for a camp out and KDs came through. I had 200+ people in attendance and need a total of 500 donut holes which equals just under 42 dozen. Mike, the owner, took my call and my order. He was happy to get my business and was even willing to work with me regarding the deposit on such a large order. My camp was in Ramona for the weekend but I live in Encinitas. Without any issue, Mike went the route of trust and allowed me to come in Saturday morning and make payment in full when I picked up my order. I would not have held it against him or his shop had he demanded payment of a deposit before fulfilling my order. As for the other reviewers that point out the fact that this shop doesn't take cards....their prices are cheap and one way they continue to keep low prices is that they do not have to pay click or swipe fees for using a credit card. Most donut shops that I go to do not take credit cards so I do not feel that this is even worth mentioning as a negative or using it as a basis to provide a lower rating. KD's donuts is the best in ramona. DD cant hold a candle to this place. If leaving ramona i would go to petersons donuts in escondido. That is my favorite in san diego. The quality of KD's is way better than Dunkin Donut. There are not very many places to get donuts in ramona. It is a good thing this place is good. It is all we really have. I would give 5 stars if they excepted credit cards. They only take cash. They also close early too. That is the only time i go to Dunkin Donut is when this place is closed. read more

The best and freshest donuts you'll ever have. The owners are the nicest people, that will always treat you like family. Not only do they make there donuts from scratch there unique my favorite one the chocolate chocolate with coconut on top has red velvet inside which makes the texture that much better. Not great, not bad. They seem stuck in the past not accepting cards. This is 2016 and you would think they would catch up to the current times some day but they haven't. To me this is a customer service issue. They also have limited hours that they are open. It's not great that you have to plan your time just to get a donut. As mentioned before there's a throng of "day workers" you have to get past just to get in the door. I would more accurately rate the store a 2 1/2 if I could. 2 is a little harsh and 3 is a little to generous. I could easily rate a 4 if the above issues were fixed. But it's been this way for years so I don't see that changing. read more

So with the new Dunkin Donuts in town we wanted to do a comparison of donut taste and quality. Hands down same type of donuts KD's donuts were fresher and more flavorful. My only complaint is the customer service lady was borderline rude. I truly attest this to the franchise moving in across the street and so maybe its been stressful on them. We go here almost every Saturday for donuts. We always get apple fritters, maple bars and sprinkle covered cake donuts for the kids. They are always fresh and tasty and the customer service is great, even when there's a ton of people in there. read more

I am not sure about this place just yet. I think maybe it is the time. My guess is that they make a large selection in the morning for that rush and then they pretty much close up shop. Mike and his wife are friendly, the line (when there is one) usually moves fast, unless you get stuck behind a person choosing a dozen or more. Occasionally a family member helps them out.
