This place is a good change from the typical Chinese bakeries you will find in Chinatown where there are no lines and complete chaos. It's like 'what do you want and get out' feel. Kee Wah is clean and well lite with decent employees. No pushing and shoving here. Phew! Although I can put up a decent fight with some old Asian ladies if I have to. Great bakery! I love chinese pastries and baked goods, but hate going to Chinatown, because of the crowds and the lack of cleanliness. Kee Wah Bakery is great. Although it's a popular bakery, the bakery is very organized and clean. All the pastries are beautiful and nicely decorated. Things that I've tried: the panda cookies (comes in an adorable panda tin!), mango cake, and the chestnut cake (my parents' favorite). The service is great - the staff is very friendly and helpful - we were able to store our purchases in the store's refrigerator for pick-up later (after dinner) at no extra charge. My past experiences have been good through great, BUT every now and then DISAPPOINTMENT happens and that's not good for any business especially if it's a franchise or chain (I don't know what Kee Wah is---licensed, chain, or franchise). My wife and I introduced this bakery to an ex-coworker of hers who wanted to try good Chinese bakery goods, so we recommended some items to him. For the most part of the order, he was impressed, then when he went home and gave his daughter one of the saran-wrapped sponge cakes/muffin (don goh), she found mold inside. SHAME! SHAME on Kee Wah of Dublin! We, your honorable customers, wanted to help you look good to others and what do you do?!!!! You sell outdated goods to people?!!!! I've been disappointed, in terms of the products, at one time or another by all the Kee Wahs in LA area and the Bay area.....but never with moldy food although I did hear about past (maybe still current) practices of using expired eggs from the Chinese news. read more

I feel that most bakeries are a bit overpriced. $2-4 for a bun seems a bit steep. We stopped in one evening after an early dinner and decided to see what they had to offer. Understandably, most items were gone by now. I did see they had something called a crunch churro bun and also a crunch BBQ pork bun. Both resembled your typical pineapple bun. The next morning, I decided to bite into the pork bun, only to find that it was basically a giant bubble with a smidge of what I guess is the BBQ pork. Flavor of the bun was just ok. Too bad there isn't more fair priced competition out this way to make bakeries up their quality or rethink their high prices. read more

In the same plaza as my favorite dim sum restaurant Koi Garden there is a delightful little bakery called Kee Wah. Oh, wow. I wish I they had a scratch and sniff option so I could share the sweet aroma of bread that seduced me when I stepped inside. They have a ton of delicious baked goods to go including my personal faves: coconut cream, pork, and hot dog buns which I ate religiously in Hong Kong each day for breakfast. They are about $1.25 each here and I couldn't help but pick up a few even though I was already in a dim sum food stupor. read more

My fiance--due to his incurable sweet tooth--once again came home one day with a trio of desserts: some mango mousse thing in the shape of a pyramid (eckk), a chocolate/chestnut custard tart (it was aight) and some chocolate soy mousse tart thing, which was the winner of the bunch. It was sooooo creamy and chocolatey and the crust was made out of some crunchy nuts--YOWZA! That tart was definitely a study in texture and taste, and the fact that it was partly made out of soy made me feel less guilty for enjoying it so much. Most of the items in this bakery are fresh, natural and are listed on the package as being such, which is what attracted me to Kee Wah bakery. But considering my value for this in the food that I purchase, I think it's important that others are aware of what they put in some of their other items....... I purchased an item that is pretty popular and other yelp reviewers have mentioned here, the Oolong tea cookies which also come in other flavors such as Jasmine tea. I bought one for my mom who brought to my attention a hazardous ingredient listed on the package that was a glycol compound, I can't remember if it was Diethylene Glycol (DEG) or Propylene Glycol (PEG). Both however are known as toxic, are a main ingredient in antifreeze, and have begun to make its way into products made in China as a cheaper sweetener alternative. My mom only knew this ingredient because she had just seen a show where a woman poisoned her husband by using this ingredient in cookies that she made for him! O_O YIKES. Now I don't think anyone has died of eating these cookies from this bakery, but this is a TOXIC ingredient and who knows what it can do to the body in any amount once its ingested. Bottom line, it doesn't belong in baked goods, and I am disappointed to see that they use it as an ingredient as a cheaper way to sweeten their products. I'm glad I didn't see it in their other items ingredients, and I hope that those ingredients listed on the packages are honest. I gave 2 stars to the bakery despite this as the rest of my experience with Kee Wah have been good, and I do sometimes purchase the bread from this bakery as well as their other items such as Sponge Rolls and Honey Chiffon cakes because they are so good, and the ingredient lists are short and simple. The store is always very clean and bright, they accept credit cards to which is great, but sometimes give you attitude if you pay by card so pay with cash when you can! Sorry or the lengthy review, but I felt that it was important to at least share what I know with other customers so they aware of what may be in some of the food at Kee Wah. Bottom line, I wanted to caution everyone out there to ALWAYS READ THE LABELS and be aware of what ingredients are in the food they're purchasing for themselves and their families. Right now I give it a 3.5 stars. I've only bought one thing (I normally go to Sheng Kee) but I will keep adjusting the rating after I try more buns! Wow this is one of the cleanest and brightly lit Chinese chain bakeries I've seen! It looks like something that should be in Irvine (SoCal). I just came in here for a coffee roll $5.25 and the lady's english was practically perfect which I found startling. The coffee roll was pretty good.. the cream was light & they didn't put too much. I feel like Sheng Kee's is just too heavy sometimes. I believe the bakery is open to either 8 or 9 p.m. depending on which night. When I got there around 6:30 p.m. on a Thursday night, they still had a good amount of buns left which either means 1) they're not the good ones or 2) they're not fresh. I'll come back next time earlier in the day to get fresh ones. This entire center is brand new and I've only eaten at Osaka Ramen which was disgusting. I'm afraid to try the other restaurants. **UPDATED 11/15/07: I went here to get buns today. I ate the ham/cheese bun and I think they used a Kraft single! I don't like that! It was also too simple.
