We ordered the grilled sausage entree, arroz caldo, loco moco and sisig to share. We enjoyed our entrees. The sisig was both savory and tangy from a vinegar Adobo flavor. Really wanted to like this place. Local spot with Filipino and Hawaiian food - what's not to like? First off, the hostess is super unfriendly. We came on a Saturday morning, and it was not busy at all. When we asked for a table, the response was "do you have a reservation?" and when we said "no", the response was "are you on the waitlist?" said in a very condescending tone. The dining room was half full at best, and there was no one else waiting. When we said no, she just said "okay," and left us waiting for about five minutes. Then she came and said "You can follow me if you want." Um. I don't expect waitstaff to kiss my ass or anything, but why was this girl so angry? Did we do something wrong? The server was friendlier. We ordered the crispy chicken moco and the sisig with a side of adobo rice. The food took a very long time to come out, even though it wasn't busy. Chicken moco was decent, but the sisig was not right. Sisig is typically cooked with the pig's face and ears, and the texture is crispy, rich, and for lack of a better word, porky. Their sisig is made from cubed pork loin and liver? It's like cubing a pork chop with an egg on top and calling it sisig. It was dry and lacked flavor. The mediocre food can be overlooked if the service was welcoming, but until the end, the same hostess gave off mean-ass vibes. When I couldn't pay via Apple Pay, she impatiently tapped on the receipt where it said they don't take American Express, as if I was some sort of illiterate dumdum for overlooking it. Would I go back? Probably not. Which is a shame because I want to patronize local businesses. But man, please get a nicer hostess. Came here on July 4th for an early lunch with my boyfriend's family. It wasn't as busy even though it was a holiday so that made the experience better. First thing I noticed upon arriving is that there aren't many parking spaces. We got lucky for getting one right infront of the restaurant. As for the food, we ordered quite a few items. We ordered pulled pork sisig, lechon bowl, short rib loco moco with egg, mini prime rib (special of the day I believe), and lechon pork bun (like a siopao but with lechon). Not a single item disappointed my taste buds! Everything was truly amazing! For dessert, we ordered the ube brûlée. It was also pretty good! Why I took a star off? Though everything was good, the prices are on the higher side and the portions are just alright maybe even small for some. The service though was good. Have always heard great things about this place and finally got a chance to try it out. I was hesitant because there was a prefix menu for Easter Sunday so I didn't know what to expect. We had reservations for 10:30am and the only hiccup we had was a previous party just hanging out and not leaving after there meal was done. The staff was very apologetic so that was fine plus it was Easter so I was extra careful on practicing forgiveness lol. The place was packed for Easter brunch. Our waitress was awesome although i didn't get her name. She was cheerful and full of personality. We ordered almost everything on the prefix menu. No joke. I think one of the owners even came to check on us, that was very nice. So on to the food, and yes i tried everything I'm reviewing. Don't judge haha. Loco moco: serving size was good, different from other loco mocos because it had short rib instead of hamburger meat, short rib cooked perfectly so you didn't need to cut it up, gravy was good and eggs were sunny side up with crisp edges. 4 stars Oxtail soup: oxtails were cooked perfectly and was very tender, very generous portion, soup base was very flavorful with anise, greens were good and not over cooked so chef was good with his timing 4 stars Prime rib: requested medium and got it as expected. Nice cut and coloring. Roasted asparagus was great and mashed potatoes were awesome, nothing special with the prime rib compared to other specialty places so 3 stars Torta talong: another generous dish, tasted great only complaint was the eggplant was a tad undercooked for me but i still persevered lol. The salad it came with was very good though. 3 stars Longsilog: longinisa was cooked perfectly, no burns, tasted awesome with good sweetness. Egg and rice were as expected 4 stars Apple crisp: vanilla ice cream was a perfect compliment to the warm apple slices and toasted granola. Taste was amazing 4 stars Ube creme brûlée: amazing!, was worth the drive from Daly City! Nice carmelized top and the taste was perfect 5 stars Malasadas: another amazing dessert dish. Terrible food. I went to Kehaulani's with three other coworkers today during lunch... we got the fried chicken sandwich, the main burger, ribeye loco moco, and the BBQ short ribs bowl. We also got the Hurricane fries--this was the only good thing on the menu. The fried chicken came out BURNED. It crunched when my coworker ate it. My BBQ ribs were terrible, they were definitely reheated and tasted like they were just about to go off expiration-wise. I was hoping to get some good BBQ but it was bland and tasted funky. The loco moco was not even ribeye, and my coworker likewise said it tasted like old meat. And my other coworker's burger apparently was so bad he didn't want a to-go box--he wanted a trash can. He left half a burger on the plate. This was disappointing considering the price of the food and the ratings we read. This was a place that supposedly won an award for great food, but it was pretty terrible. We won't be coming back. We left all majorly disappointed. Poor place for lunch. What a bummer. read more

Love this local joint! I always try to support local when I can over corporate establishments. Food always on point. I come when I'm craving home cooked meals with a twist. If your a carnivor like me, get the knack attack with garlic rice!! Bomb!! The pork belly melts in your mouth with just enough crunch. If you got a sweet tooth, the ube chicken n waffles will hit the spot. I like everything spicy so I add Siracha to my chicken...never disappointing here! I finally came back to give the food a shot and had to update my review. The food was terrific and so was the service.

Hawaiian themed decor w/ R&B music. It would've been nice if they kept their theme and play Hawaiian music. The menu is a fusion of Hawaiian & Filipino food. Flies were flying in the restaurant. We had the malasadas, short rib, topsilong, and chicken adobo fried rice omelette. First off, I almost fell off my seat when my adobo fried rice omelette was served w/ green salad. Funny combo. Looks like it was just a "filler" for the plate. The chicken was def not adobo and it was very salty. The short rib was bland and chewy. The topsilog was basically fatty sausage. The malasadas (too small) was served with chocolate on the side, yet it still tasted like plain hard dough. In true Hawaiian fashion, malasadas is a larger soft donut and meant to eat without any sauce on the side. I hail from the 808 state so I am no stranger to filipino/Hawaiian cuisine. Sadly, this place really needs to work on the ingredients and the menu. Over hyped, over priced, underwhelming. Even the copy cat Hawaiian places in V-town taste way better for a cheaper value. We are not in Vallejo very often, so we had no idea where to go for breakfast. Per usual, i turned to Yelp. This place had amazing food and great customer service, and it feel even better when you know you are dining at a one of a kind local spot. We ordered the sizzling sisig, longsilog, and the bento box of food which included a loco moco, noodles, pulled pork, and Mac salad. Everything was delicious! My parents have been raving about this local spot in Vallejo serving up Filipino and Hawaiian grinds (food). We ordered so muchhhhh, but all good. For appetizers, we ordered crispy fries, chicharon, giant prawns, and the guava butter warmed rolls. My favorite was the rolls, obvi! They were the sweet Hawaiian rolls. Who doesn't like those?! For our actual brunch, we ordered the chicken adobo fried rice, eggplant torta, and the kalua pig benny. All great choices! We were so full and so we didn't have a chance to order the malasadas. Came here after our original plan for Easter bombed. Sister in law discovered this place. So we decided to give it a shot. VERY small parking lot. Other than that you have to get street parking. I would agree that it's a tad over priced for what you get, but I think just for some things, not all. Maybe it's because we were working with the Easter menu? Had a reservation for 10:30 AM and due to another big party we were not able to be seated in one table, but 2 tables near each other. We were seated between 10:30 AM and 11 AM and orders started being taken at around 11 AM and food didn't start arriving until about 11:30 AM. $8 for lumpia shanghai of 8 pieces which was really 4 long pieces of lumpia cut in half lol. Tasted good though. Another $8 or so for some fried veggie dish that was really messy to eat but was tasty. I believe it was like matchstick sized carrots, bean sprouts, chopped green onions and idk what else. Fried in tempura like batter. Ordered 2 mini short rib loco mocos, $7 each, for the kids. My 15 year old daughter was surprisingly filled with what she got but my 11 year old wasn't. Luckily my husband and I had ordered 3 things between us lol. He ordered the torta talong, I got the short rib loco moco, and we also ordered the prime rib, which the waitress thought was about 10 oz. the eggs on my loco moco was cooked just right and the short rib was delicious. Had a bite of the prime rib which we ended up giving to our 11 year old. He ate about half of the steak. I didn't try the torta talong since I'm not a fan of eggplant, but my husband said the eggplant was a tad undercooked but the egg and spinach was good. $20 for prime rib and about $16 for short rib loco moco and $14 for the torta I believe. We also ordered the malasadas, ube crème brûlée, and the warm apple crisp. Crème brûlée was DELICIOUS!!! It totally tasted just like ube! Well duh! malasadas were good, but not spectacular. Slight crunchy outside with super soft moist inside. Came with a chocolate sauce which I didn't care for. Warm apple crisps was delicious, but unfortunately was only able to take one bite since my daughter devoured it . Loved the water "carafes" they had. Basically glass bottles from milk bottles or absolute bottles with all labels removed and mason jars with handles as cups. Also loved that after we received our food the owner came to our table and asked how we were personally. So our bill came to about $180 for 4 adults and 4 kids. I would come here again since I really wanted to try the regular menu items like the adobo fried rice. All of the food was delicious. Server was spectacular. Restaurant was clean. Ambiance was nice and very island and I loved the music. One suggestion I would make for the owner is to have the employees who are collecting dishes to say "Can I take this?" Or "May I take this?" Became one of my favorite places to eat in Vallejo from the first time I tried them. I like to remix items on restaurant menus when I go out to eat, and sometimes they don't like it. We pointed it out to the server and she apologized but did nothing about it. We also ordered the cinnamon vanilla bread. It was advertised as served with whipped cream and caramel sauce. Instead it came drenched in maple flavored syrup. No whipped cream. When asked we were told they ran out of whipped cream. Then we noticed a 3.25% SC surcharge on the bill. We came to this eatery as it was chosen by my husband's family to gather together after a loss. This is known as a Hawaiian Filipino Restaurant. Parking isn't great. It's very tight spaces so we decided to park at the larger lot by Grocery Outlet and walked over. This small restaurant is located right beside a Travelodge Motel. It isn't classy and nothing special about this place. The menu for this specific private party was mainly Filipino items such as Pinakbet (veggies with shrimp paste), Pancit (Filipino noodles-Canton), Beef Short ribs, White jasmine rice, chicken and pork sisig. Pinakbet was ok... i love eating bitter melon but it should have been soaked longer so it wouldn't be too bitter to eat and also needed more flavoring to it. The pancit canton was better and had lots of delicious veggies and meat. My hubby and sister in law said the sisig was a bit too spicy and definitely needed to be more crispy as it wasn't the typical Sisig texture. Some of the chicken was not fully cooked as their were blood seen per friends of the family. The rice was cooked perfectly as it was soft and fluffy. The beef short ribs was partially soft but over cooked and it did have a sauce to it to help from the dryness of the inside. They were open for indoor dining and also had a little section for outdoor dining. It seemed like they have Karaoke nights for customers as well. They did cover a little section attached to the wall that had a sensor go off but I guess because they left the door on the front entrance, by the parking lot, open. We haven't tasted any other items on the menu that would be more Hawaiian rather than Filipino but I'm not sure if I would come back. The service was ok... they cleared out the plates when needed as this day was buffet style due to the amount of people that came from the funeral. I was in the mood for some loco moco and Kehaulani's is the place to go. They serve it with braised short rib and each bite with the mushroom gravy is scrumptious. The meat is so soft and tender that it melts in your mouth. I had one of the lechon pieces from my daughter's bowl. The skin was crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. My family and I just moved out here. Surprisingly Vallejo has a lot of good places to eat and this is one them. This place really gives it the Hawaiin/island vibe, makes me really want to go back to the islands. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. For my food, I got the short rib loco moco and my kids had the longsilog. It was good, very flavorful, and you can tell they put a lot of love and thought into their food. From where I was sitting I can see the cooks, I was actually watching how they handle the food. Very meticulously. My only thing here are the prices, I think it's very overpriced, however I guess the love and thought put into the way they make their dishes makes up for it. Drank water and grabbed my coffee from the car that I already had from running errands. So that saved my breakfast beverage. Hurricane fries were the best thing we tried. Not sure what flavor furikake they had but it looked like salmon furikake to me because of flecks of pink. Liked the chopped garlic bits. I think the sauce would be better layered in the fries than just on top. The chicken moco the batter and gravy were both salty. Didn't finish it. I appreciate use real chicken but was too salty to finish. The same with the gravy. Tasted like salty beef gravy with a lot of bouillon. Small button mushrooms were nice but soggy and over cooked. OMG! I just discovered this place last night and I am SAD I did not know about it sooner! We've eaten there twice now. LOL On Friday I was searching for brunch places and Kehaulani's came up, and I was like, Wow- where is this? WHERE on Admiral Callaghan?! I had no idea we had authentic Filipino, Hawaiian food in Vallejo! I opened the menu online. We saw Mini Malasadas on the pupu menu and got in the car. The malasadas were fresh, delicious and delightful all by themselves, but they served them with warm chocolate sauce and I cheated so hard on my eating requirements, but it was WORTH it! While we dined we saw several prime ribs go by, as that is their special on Friday evening, but the thing that caught our eye and brought us back for breakfast this morning was the Loco Moco with 10-hour braised short rib and mushroom gravy!! This is the best loco moco I have eaten anywhere including Hawaii! The flavor of the short rib and that gravy is heavenly, spectacularly, delightfully divine! WOW. The serving was too big for me to finish, so I am looking forward to a snack this afternoon. There is NOTHING wrong with the location except perhaps the limited parking and getting to the parking is tricky, but it's more than worth the effort! The entire staff is super friendly. It's located next to the freeway, but you have to make sure to take a quick turn into a small street, otherwise you'll miss it. They've been open since around Mother's Day of this year, so they're relatively new still. They said they'll have a new menu roll out next week (December 2018), so hopefully when we do come back, the food will be really good! All of the staff are nice, and definitely makes the atmosphere warm and family-friendly. I tried their Kahlua Pork Benedict. Instead of the traditional English muffins, they used dinner rolls. I think it could've tasted a bit better with Hawaiian Sweet Rolls, and complement with some diced and seasoned potatoes or something, other than rice because the rice was just there and didn't go with the Benedict in my opinion. Maybe Spam could go good with it too(?), since that's a Hawaiian/Filipino thing. The salad can be better, by using an arugula mix with the same salad dressing. The kahlua pork was pretty good, and the eggs and Hollandaise sauce are just like how they're supposed to be cooked and prepared for Eggs Benedict. For a whopping $15, I was expecting the Eggs Benedict to be really good and match that $15 value, but unfortunately overall, it didn't come up to par for me. The small, independently-owned, mom-n-pops dining spot. Many a time, a very good choice for grub. Here in Vallejo, there's quite a few, though it can be hit or miss. But I feel like the quality of non-chain food is slowly getting better here, especially in the last 2 years. Kehaulani's is one of those places that I feel is representative of that. I believe that this spot was originally the long time Good Day Cafe. Admittedly, I had never eaten there. I heard it was good, albeit, not as good as Joy of Eating. Still, I've no idea when they closed―in fact I didn't even know of it's demise until Kehaulani's Cafe opened up! So... fast forward to the present time. Kehaulani's opens up, serving a fusion of Hawaiian and Filipino food. Sounds like a treat, yo! Firstly, location. It's, uh, probably sorta hard to find if you're not a Vallejo native. It's carefully tucked away next to a Howard Johnson's(?) motel. The area... I wouldn't exactly call it the greatest of areas, especially for a restaurant. Still location is just one thing. Let the restaurant also be judged by 1) food and 2) customer service. Customer service is friendly here. We were greeted upon entrance and quickly seated, as well as given menus. The menu, it's a small one. Still, better to do a few dishes right than have a bunch of dishes and have them all trash. Amongst the menu is topsilog, kalua pork benedict, and loco moco with a short rib riff. I decided on the loco moco and my friend with with the kalua pork benedict. Food will take awhile, be mindful of that. This is a small restaurant, so there's limited cooking staff. Just be patient is all I can tell you. As soon as our food comes out, it looks oh so lovely (see my loco moco pic). The short rib is tender and the eggs are cooked perfectly. Though, either the gravy or the short rib is a bit on the salty side for my tastes. Still, it's a treat. It's very easy to mess up short ribs (either cooked too dry or too tough). These were the right amount of tender. Great dish. My friend's kalua pork benedict was tasty as well. This place has some good things going for it. Though the menu is limited, it's a tasty one. Gonna need to sample a few more dishes. Location is eh, but that's easy to get by. The hours... well, they close at 3. I get it. Probably an operating costs/location decision. I'm... a hardcore intermittent faster, so I typically don't eat until around sometime after 3. Would be nice to maybe have extended hours, a day or 2? But I digress. Kehaulani's Cafe - Loco moco with short rib - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Vallejo, California

No customers inside, but the restaurant served cold coffee for my elderly father, and they didn't even have Splenda or any alternative which is a standard at restaurants for those with diabetes. If a "Cafe" is only open from 9am-3pm, has no other customers in the vicinity, and can't even get a regular black coffee right it's not a good sign, there's no excuse and we left immediately. The server we had was just as cold as the coffee and kept pressuring us to take our order way too frequently and they didn't help us make any suggestions for these unique fusion foods that customers outside the restaurant would know nothing about. I've never been here before, but I've heard good things about this place because of the ube waffles I saw in an Ig post, but they didn't even have that as it was a special occurrence. I don't care what awards you win if your service is worse than the local fast-food restaurant it's not enjoyable for the customer. The experience was very disappointing, and the overall vibe of the restaurant wasn't very warm or friendly. read more

Tried Kehaulani's Cafe today.. on a Sunday... around lunch time. Probably not the best idea for two people just wanting a quick bite, but when a "hot and new" comes to Vallejo- I've gotta Yelp it! First, this place is hidden! It's right next to the Howard Johnson hotel. Bizarre location, but it works. We were promptly greeted and given our option of seats. We made our selection then sat down. Our waitress was over about 10 minutes after we were seated and she said, "you can order, but we're backed up so it will be a minute." Of course I replied with, " it's no worry at all" because after all- I'm here for my experience! We finally made our order and was surprised at the complimentary treat that was sent our way for being so cool with the timing. A nice gesture; not needed, but very kind and certainly noticed. The chicken sand which was the kind of sandwich you can't put down. (Physically and spiritually) it's a messy one, but delish. The pork sliders were tasty, but not as I expected. Savory and tangy, just maybe not for me. The real star of the plate was the lupia! Cooked to perfection and served with sweet chili sauce- they were lovely! If you're in Vallejo or you're already a Vallejoan, give this place a shot. Food is good , they have great Island tunes and you're supporting a great local spot! read more
