Da pua'a meet the poke nachos
    Joyce J.

This was a happy find. It seemed that most people came in for Da Pua'a Meet the Poke Nachos. Kalua pig on one side and poke on the other, all on top of fried won ton skins. Broke da mouth (It was soooo yummy)! $25 plus change. We also got a lau lau combo, also quite tasty. There are a couple of longer tables that you may have to share. Smaller tables along the walls. Strip mall parking. Scan the QR code on the table for the menu and order online. But when we visited, the server came to our table to take our order.

Food tastes like home! Poke nachos did not disappoint AT ALL! I want to try the other nachos. Kailua pork and shoyu chicken tasted homemade! This is what I came to the island for! NO NOTES!

You gotta try Kehau's Kitchen We ordered the pua'a to da poke nachos with kamikaze poke and WOW, they did not disappoint. The wonton chips were not greasy and had the perfect crisp, the kalua pork was so juicy, and the ahi poke was so fresh! Auntie Gloria makes a mean haupia -- do NOT skip out on this! She told us that all the recipes are her own and that she puts love and aloha in all the food, and you can for real taste it and feel it from her in the restaurant. Pro tip: add chili pepper water to the kalua pork! Perfect balance of garlic, vinegar, and hint of spice. We even saw another customer come in to just buy 32 oz of chili peppa water Can't wait to try more!

Solid friendly service! Dined in but was given take away containers and plastic utensils...a little weird but okay. The food came out and looked good! I ordered the laulau and bbq chicken. Overall for the price a solid option. The laulau was not dry and had a decent amount of meat and fat. Solid. The chicken was seasoned well and cooked over a flame as it had a nice char to it. Would def come back if I was in the area! The only downside is the parking is terrible and crowded.

First time here on 4-28-26, found it on Yelp as we were at Pearl ridge. It's right across the street on the ground level at Westridge. They have an extensive catering menu with 1-2 week notices. Food available here are poke nachos, Mexican, local and Hawaiian. Hubs got the beef stew combo with rice, chicken, lomi salmon and haupia. My Local Girl with ribs also came with ribs, rice, Mac salad and Kalua pork. Menu said two pieces of pulehu ribs but came as cut up pieces of beef on bone about 1& 2 inch pieces mostly bone. Heavily seasoned with Hawaiian salt and sweet. In my mind it was going to be like bbq ribs/ 2 long pieces of bone. Kehau brought out utensils, pitcher of water, took the order, brought it out and was also the cashier- hard working wahine(lady.) Kind of like a hole in the wall vibe, small enough for one person to work the front. Smart they serve the food on and in take out containers. You can ask for a plastic bag to take home your leftovers. Hubs and I both took home our stew and Kalua pork barely touched - easy heat up dinner tonight. I just need a head of cabbage and a sweet Maui onion.

SO YUMMY! My friends and I came in around 6:30 for dinner and it was pretty busy. Luckily, there was an available table for us. There seems to be only one aunty running the front so if you wait for aunty to take your order, you might be waiting a while. However, there is a QR code on each table which you can use to order if aunty is too busy to come around to take orders. We ordered the pua'a to da poke nachos (nachos with kamakaze ahi and kalua pork), the smoked meat, and the pastele stew. There was so much food in the containers! The nachos were SO YUMMY! The fish was so fresh and the kalua pork was so smoky and the fried wonton chips were flaky and crispy. We devoured the nachos and as soon as it was gone, I wished it was back in front of me. There is chili pepper water along with shoyu on each of the tables. I didn't try it, but my friend said the chili pepper water with the smoked meat was the perfect bite with the rice. If you get a combo plate, you get to choose sides. We got choose a side for the smoked meat and chose the potato salad instead of the haupia. It was a mistake. I still wanted haupia, so we ordered it on the side and it was so yummy! Aunty Gloria says she makes it with real coconut, and you can tell. It was the perfect way to end a great meal.

Tried Kehau's Kitchen and really liked it. The place has a chill local feel and everyone there was super friendly. It felt more like a neighborhood spot than a touristy restaurant, which I appreciated. We had the poke nachos, ribs, and laulau. The poke nachos were really good and probably my favorite thing we ordered. Fresh poke with crispy chips and a good mix of flavors. The ribs were tender and flavorful, and the laulau tasted homemade and comforting. Portions were solid too. Service was great the whole time. Staff was welcoming, food came out fast, and overall it was just a good experience. Would definitely come back next time I'm in Honolulu.

    Pua'a spicy ahi poke nacho
    Mialy A.

Pua'a (half spicy ahi and half kalua) was delicious and portion was definitely massive. I would definitely recommend. Pastele stew combo: came with rice, lomi salmon, grilled chicken, a container of pastele stew. Again their portion are pretty good. When I came, they did not have the Mexican food except tacos à la carte. A bit disappointed at first but turn out pretty good. I would definitely come back for the nachos even though it was a bit pricey, the portion and the taste made it totally worth it.

Hawaiian Mexican fusion food say less. The food here is amazing. I highly recommend the poke nachos. This place is super busy. Seating is limited so order ahead

Poke nachos were amazing and the service was incredible. They really packed the plate and were very generous with the sauce . Everything 10/10, would gladly come back again!

The food was spectacular! It was flavorful and insanely worth it, if i could do 10 stars i would! The service took a bit, but it was probably because we ordered so much amazing food! Ambiance was traditional and seemed authentic to the Hawaiian culture! I insanely recommend going here for lunch or dinner, very good!

Probably the best Poke Ive had so far in Hawaii. Service was very warm and welcoming, got the cool small town vibes. For the duration of meal, they were full from people dining in. We had the poke nachos, poke bowl, sliders, lau lau pork, grilled meat and a short ribs! Poke was FRESH, and the rest were prefectly seasoned. Love this place. There is a reason why locals love this place!

Mixed bag at this restaurant. My real rating would be 3.5 stars if we could give half stars. I had tried calling before we came in to be sure they were open but no answer. Took a chance any way. Server greets everyone who comes in. Too much work for only one server, hard to get taken care of. More than half the tables were full even before 5pm on a Saturday, and there's a steady take out business, too. Looked at the online menu since the server didn't bring us a menu and we were waiting, but it doesn't list the squid luau combo so we had to wait for the server to take our order. She did take care of us before the walk ins that were ordering take out, and we appreciated that. However, turned out squid luau combo wasn't listed online because they were out. Boo. So hubby and I ordered the laulau combo consisting of a nice sized laulau that was tasty, with a nice ratio of pork to leaves, very large scoop of rice, some lomi salmon that was mostly onions that were quite strong and bitter and almost no salmon, pulehu chicken, which was tasty and had a nice char, and haupia, which was good. So food was fifty/fifty. Hubby ordered a coke, which was bottled Mexican (means real cane sugar) which was yummy. They serve Mexican food so I guess they have other Mexican sodas, but I didn't bother to check the menu. We had to ask for water three times because the server was so busy. We had a lot left over since the portions are big. Not sure if we will be back, though. While the server was nice and trying hard to take care of everyone, having to wait to order (another family even came up to ask is they could order after waiting for awhile) and then having to ask for water three times is a turn off for us. Also - no squid luau where's Hawaiian food is served was a major let down for me.

It was so good and always had a line waiting to get in for dinner. Quite the opposite here. We got there at 6:45pm and there was only one table besides us eating dinner. I didn't notice anyone ordering take out for pick up. Tanisha was our waitress and she took really good care of us. Yeah it also helps that we ended up being the only ones there eating. I really hope that this was just a really slow night because their food or what i ordered was really good. First Tanisha brought out chips and salsa. I like their salsa but i need a little heat to it so i added the hot sauce. I got the 3 choice combination plate. 2 shredded beef enchiladas and a steak relleno. Not too many places offer shredded beef. It's usually ground beef and i don't care much for that. The shredded beef is really tender. It's so soft and with the corn tortilla and enchilada sauce just blends so well. I like it as it's very delicious. The steak relleno is really good too. The only complaint I have is about the Spanish rice and refried beans. They were layered thin so it's really not that much. Being the cheapest items to make i would think they would give you more so you would be really full. I just wish had more of it cause it's really good and compliments the enchiladas and relleno. It's not about the rice and beans tasting good cause it does. I just wish had more of it. Then comes dessert. I love fried ice cream and they make it really good here. Perfect way to end my dining experience. I'm really happy coming here. The food i ordered was delicious and Tanisha is a great waitress. I highly recommend eating here for Mexican food. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures of the menu which i should have. The menu not only features what's available but also what's in it. A description of the entree choices. A few of them with pictures of the entree. Really good menu. Just sorry i didn't take pictures. My bad.

Said that we could sit at any open table. First time there, she gave us time to look over the menu. Good selection, one is ground beef which one of my dinning companion likes. Chips and salsa right off the back. Mmmmm. 1) Cheese Burrito plate. Very good. 2) Taquitos plate. Crunchy, not over cooked. 3) Tamale / taco combo plate. I loved that the taco didn't crack in half when I bite into it like some other taco places. 4) Ground beef chimichanga. All plates comes with Spanish rice and refried beans. Pros: Nice portions that would fill you up. Food came hot and fresh. Con: Maybe it might have been me but, I would have like more chip and salsa. There was only one server, so service was slow or maybe it was the kitchen. Not sure. I hate these 3% charge card when paying for your food. Would I go back? Maybe. It's close to where I live and it's not as crowded as other places that are more known. Parking is easy when I went. I like that my crunchy tocos don't break apart when you eat it.

***4.5 STARS***…read more After a subpar dinner outing earlier this week and a bad day at the office today, I was weary and didn't have much energy to go dinner with some buddies I've known since junior high. Plans were already made and it's been some time since I saw them so I dug deep for positivity and picked up my friends for an early dinner. Venue was Mexico Restaurant (MR), located near the corner of N School Street and Houghtailing. MR has been in business on the busy N School Street for over 18 years now. I've been wanting to try here as I've driven past this place so many times and wondered what their food is like. A handful of my colleagues at work spoke highly of this restaurant and 3 different people told me to try their crab chimichanga which uses real crab meat, evidenced by small pieces of crab shells found while eating. So excited. We arrived at MR shortly before 530pm to have witnessed all parking stalls occupied. One of my friends went to ask the staff if I could park in a marked stall "truck" which was fine. Impressed how all stalls were taken so early. As I walked in, I was in awe of such interesting and colorful decor that gave the restaurant a festive and bright atmosphere. Prior to dining here I read a handful of reviews where it was mentioned chips and salsa are no longer complimentary. The food porn on Yelp's photo gallery showed generous portions so although we were hesitant in ordering a starter, I was tasked to pick something and chose the carne asada fries. I pretty much wanted to try the much anticipated crab chimichanga I've heard so much about but also came across the pescado frito (deep fried fish, catch of the day) served with tortillas, which also got my attention. When our server Jesus advised there's no fish of the day, I asked about my colleague's recommendation of crab chimichanga which I couldn't find in the menu. Jesus advised there's lobster instead which I ended up ordering. The carne asada fries came out shortly and this starter was piping hot and looked delicious. It hit the spot with generous portions of beef, cheese, guacamole and sour cream. Absolutely delicious. The wait for our main dishes didn't seem that long as the time was used catching up with each as it's been quite some time since we last saw each other. 3 hot plates of sizable chimichangas and burrito were served. After snapping photos it was finally time to dig in. My lobster chimichanga was not bad but it lacked the crispy exterior I was expecting and the lobster didn't really shine. You knew you were eating seafood but the lobster didn't shine. The accompanying fried beans, Mexican rice and papaya salsa were tasty but perhaps too much starch on a plate. Food was indeed tasty but perhaps I was expecting too much when advertised as lobster. Portions are massive here where we all took leftovers home for another meal. Service was above average. Jesus and the other staff stopped by our table to check up on us, refilled our water glasses and brought carry out containers as we were done. Overall, a memorable first time at MR where I'd be game for a repeat visit. This time I'd like to try their quesadillas as I also enjoy eating this. Or perhaps the pescado frito as I'm a fan of deep fried fish tacos.

Waitress was super sweet, but her manager couldn't honor the happy hour pricing, because they took the order at 6:03, although we were sat down ready to order..not our fault you didn't come to take our order.. Price: 2 birria tacos for $17 I get everything is expensive here but this is straight up asinine. Not for this sad looking plate with a dried wedge of lime. Is that supposed to do anything at this point This tells me management is profit maxing without doing anything else to make this into a remotely decent restaurant. Reminder to look into restaurants before going! We saw outdoor area and wanted to grab some margs and left with a bill we thought was the biggest waste of our money so far in 2026. Not to mention their roof leaks so you're not even safe from rain! I highly recommend Taco Bell or any local food trucks! ‍ gd I haven't felt scammed like this in a hot minute.

But plot twist--I was wrong. I ordered the El Charro burrito and was immediately confused... because it was actually GOOD. Like, flavorful-good. Seasoning? Present. Taste? Alive and thriving. I had to pause mid-bite just to process what was happening. Location-wise, it's inside the same building as Aiea Bowl, which is honestly iconic. You can go from strikes to burritos in under 60 seconds--efficient and delicious. Ambiance is a little on the compact side, like "don't bring your entire extended family unless you like playing Tetris with chairs." But when I went, it was pretty empty, so it actually felt chill. Service? Quick and efficient. No nonsense. They got me my food fast, which I respect deeply because I was already emotionally attached to that burrito. Final verdict: 4 stars. Came in with low expectations, left questioning everything I thought I knew about Mexican food in Hawaii. Would absolutely come back for round two.

It was simple, comforting, and absolutely delicious. My son, who's from California and very serious about his Mexican food, said it was the best bean and cheese burrito he's ever had--which is definitely saying something! The portions are generous, so you definitely get your money's worth, and the spicy sauce has the perfect kick with amazing flavor that takes everything to the next level. If you're craving satisfying, authentic-tasting Mexican food, this place is a must. We'll definitely be back!
