My food was really good. Combo Laulau/Kalua Pork plate with rice, lomi salmon, pipikaula, and sweet potato . Excellent! Kalua pork was juicy, laulau was loaded with pork and the sweet potato was cooked to perfection. My other plate was a Beef stew plate with rice and mac salad. My beef stew was really sweet and not at all like I remember it. It was still good and a great portion size but just sweet for my liking. I finished off my order with a spicy Pastele and that was excellent as well. Service is efficient and seating area is relatively clean. Discounts are posted on the counter and are offered on different days of the week not every day. My only complaint was the fountain drinks were flat but that's minor. I've been to Young's Fish Market for Hawaiian food before, but it's been a while, since the Dillingham area is usually off my beaten path. This is why I was so glad to see them newly listed on Uber Eats. I've enjoyed their laulau, but I've been reading about how great their beef stew is, and I love a good beef stew! I had made up my mind to order a plate, then while browsing the app, I saw "Buy 1, get 1 free" next to the Beef Stew Plate. Many of the folks at our office are small eaters, but I thought of one coworker who might enjoy and be able to finish a stew plate. I offered it to him and he gratefully accepted. I placed the order at 9:47 am, and the two hefty plates arrived at 10:04 am. I don't recall any of my delivery orders arriving that fast before. The big clear plastic bag contained: * two covered plate lunch containers with two scoops of rice each * two larger containers of stew * two smaller clear plastic containers of mac salad * two each of plastic spoons and forks * napkins I handed my coworker his share and I proceeded to eat mine while the stew was still hot. The plate lunch containers had empty space intentionally left open, with the scoops of rice on one side. This would allow folks to pour the stew into the plate to eat with the rice. This time around, I chose to eat my stew with the spoon, and occasionally scooped some rice into the gravy. I've never had stew meat this tender, enough so that I could just about cut it with the plastic spoon. There was a good balance of potatoes and carrots. It was delicious. The gravy was somewhat dark, not the reddish/orange color at some other places. And I never enjoyed mac salad as much as I did today. At many plate lunch places, mac salad is a filler, sort of a rice extender. Young's didn't resemble the macaroni-and-mayonnaise-looking mixture which passes for mac salad at some other places. This one had texture, carrots, bits of green, and perhaps some onions. As for my coworker? He said: - Raymond, thank you so much for lunch. That beef stew was awesome. I demolished it right away. The potatoes and the carrots were super soft, which is perfect and the meat was super tender. I'm thinking of ordering Hawaiian food next. read more

We went to our favorite Hawaiian Food restaurant Young's Fish Market located in the Dillingham Plaza. In addition to their Famous Hawaiian Food. They make some of the best Chinese Roasted Meats on the island. They make Char Siu, Chinese Roast Pork, and Chinese Style Char Siu Ribs. Today we got one of their Pork Laulau's and some Char Siu Pork, and the Chinese Style Roast Pork. The Char Siu was roasted to perfection sweet and savory. Their Chinese Style Roast Pork had that delicious crispy skin on top and tender meat underneath with just the right amount of seasoning. Service was great we got in and out very quickly. I haven't been here in a while, but I always love this spot. I try to come on Wednesdays because it's the only day that they sell oxtail laulau. Their oxtail laulau is the best laulau ever. The combo plate is too much for me. I usually get the oxtail laulau $21.75, two scoops of rice $3.25 and a half pound of squid luau $7.50. Holy smokes, I can't believe a pound of squid luau is now $15. It's heavy, so you don't even get that much. As I already stated, their oxtail laulau is the best. It contains a good 3-4 small pieces of oxtail. My husband didn't want one, but after tasting mine he wanted to get his own. I love squid luau and like it on the sweeter side. This one wasn't sweet, so I just added my own sugar. It was also a bit watery and didn't have enough coconut milk. This place is always packed during lunch hours. Went in to grab some Hawaiian food and I decided to choose Al's Bento which comes with a mini Lau Lau which is mini, kalua pork, 1 slice sweet potato, Lomi salmon and 1 scoop of rice or poi. The mini pork Lau Lau was more than 1/2 fat hardly any meat. It was moist but you need to hunt for the meat. The sweet potato was good and steamed right. The kalua pork was okay and the Lomi salmon was mostly Lomi tomatoes. I asked if they had chili pepper water which normally they have a container on the counter, but he said it will be .26 cents for a 2 oz container. My wife ordered the Kailua pork plate with rice and she ate less than 1/2 the plate. Lot of new faces, don't know if same owners since Barbara & Allen passed away times have changed and the cost of doing business has also changed a lot and the mom & pops are having a hard time keeping up with the rising costs. read more

OMG. I had not eaten here before and I have been in the shopping center a bunch of times but never went in as I thought it really was only a fish market. After reading all of the awesome reviews especially concerning their legendary beef stew I finally arrived today at 10:30 am and hubby went across the parking lot to get our Apple Fritters from Kam Bakery (only had 2 left) and then came to get me. Ordered the beef stew plate and the equally legendary butterfish lau lau. I sat down to try the stew as it looked so good and it was totally DELISH--perfectly seasoned and textured, meat was juicy and soft and the veggies were perfectly cooked and the seasoning was PERFECT. The guy helping me was such a doll as I had no idea what I was doing and he was patiently explaining my options. Hubby said that he seldom has seen me so excited and into my food as when I took that first bite of stew and rice. Everything was good. The place is clean and the staff is so nice and patient. Was craving for some lau lau and Young's Fish Market delivered. Sadly, there were no fish options available when I went since well, it's a fish market after all. However, the Pork Lau Lau satisfied my cravings where I couldn't stop wanting more. The Lau Lau was cooked perfectly. The steamed taro leaves with the pork were all so tender and flavorful. There were some extra bonus goodies of grilled pork on the side as well. I had no idea that was going to be in there given I had also ordered a side of Char Sui Pork. The char sui pork was also just as delicious as you would expect. Endless bite combinations of the rice, mac salad, lau lau, char sui and grilled pork. Rest assured I felt like a beached seal afterward but hey, that's what vacations are for right? This place is inside a plaza with many other food and grocery options so parking typically can be scarce but there's a lot of turnover of people coming and going. Quality is very hit or miss. I had gone the week before to get the oxtail laulau as it was divine. Cooked to perfection and the oxtail was a nice touch. I tried again this week and well... a much different experience. Stems and veins of the luau leaves were way too think and it felt undercooked. Needless to say the taste ended up really bitter. To a point where I had to throw it out. And I ate it immediately. The pork laulau's can be a bit dry. I do think it's because of the size of the Laulau that it's hard to get a good consistency. The review is a 3 since I had both a 5-star and a 2-star experience very recently. I took the middle and rounded down. Service is to be expected from a Market/Okazuya style spot. It's an iconic, spot with a homey, down to earth feel. For those that want "authentic," this is as old school as you will get in town (along with Helena's) The Laulau specials are what I usually go for. On the beef luau days, you have to go early because they sell out fast. Good size, but you are paying a premium compared to other spots on the island. The turkey tails are solid. Was excited to eat Young's while we home for the month. Got the gift certificate deal from Costco's. Went there for lunch today. What a bummer. Food was sub-par. Service was even worse. The aunty helping us was super rude. I also think she thought we were gonna try stealing food or something because as my spouse was in the process of paying, I was trying to take the tray of food to settle the kids in the aunty pulls the tray back and says, "No. I never ring it up yet." My spouse literally had her wallet open to pay and was getting the cards out. Maybe she thought we were gonna dine and dash with 3 kids and their grandma with us too. ‍ Then when we tell her she forgot one side rice she say, "I put it on top." She come out to check all our food and make sure we not lying. She go back to where she was bagging up the food and what do you know? The rice still there. I ordered the Big's Al's Bento that included a Small Laulau, Kalua Pig, Pipikaula, Sweet Potato, & One Scoop Rice. Overall a decent Hawaiian plate for $15.75. The Kalua pig was good. The pipikaula was slightly on the tough side but ok. The large sweet potato was tasted good. My slight disappointment was that I was told a piece of butterfish would be included in the pork Laulau but I couldn't find any. The older gentleman had excellent customer service in explaining the menu items and answering my questions. This family business has that old school mom & pop feel. Young's on Dillingham is my favorite Hawaiian food place. I thinking the portions are generous. The flavor is good. The only negative is that when I get the poi, even if they say it's fresh, I think it tastes a little sour to me. I like their lomi salmon, because they don't put round onion, and their pipikaula is not dry. It's usually tender and on the sweet side. The lau lau is large and the kalua tastes good and is a good portion. I'm on their text list so I get occasional special offers. This time I had two. One for a free birthday lau lau, and a buy 1 get 1 50% off. You can't use more than one per visit. Since the B1G150% was expiring I used that one. I got the lau lau plate, and the kalua plate. Because the other offer is for my birthday, I'll go back this week to get my lau lau. read more

Based on the recommendations of my cousins, I stopped by Young's for lunch. Normally we go to Helena's for Hawaiian food but this was along my errand path. Some of the highlights that differentiated Young's: 1. More parking - Young's was located in a strip mall with other shops and restaurants so I had no worries about finding a parking spot around lunchtime. 2. Order at the counter - plate lunch or a la carte options. Open seating. 3. Portions - seemed more generous than Helena's. Definitely was full after the meal but this time I dined solo. 3. Taste - the chicken long rice was tastier here with a little more richness and color (maybe a little soy added?). Kalua pig was juicy and had a great smoky flavor as expected. Thank you to whoever wrote that the beef stew is perfectly flavored at Young's. The last time I was sick, I had a craving for some homestyle beef stew and found this review, and decided to try it. I get the $16 big tub of stew and it lasts me several meals. I love the huge creamy potatoes, soft carrots that I mush into the rice, and fatty, fall apart meat. And yes, it's perfectly flavored! My favorite part is probably the gravy with rice. I definitely recommend it, and am already looking forward to treating myself to another stew soon! I've recently been enjoying the laulau plate too - I love the meaty pipikaula that it comes with and the huge laulau is really moist from the big fat (hey, I throw it away but it makes it so tasty!). So glad me and hubby decided to walk here from our place (4 miles round trip) because we sure did eat a lot!! The restaurant is a typical hole in the wall. It didn't look very clean. There was a bucket of dirty water and rags behind our table. I guess the regulars knew what it was for because I saw one couple wet a rag in the dirty water and go wipe their table down. Sorry folks, but if I wasn't starving, I would've walked out and went somewhere else. Anyway, the food was amazing. The price point was a bit high. Hubby and I each got a plate which was $24.50 each. It is a lot of food BUT I was able to finish it all and that doesn't say much because I usually can't finish a whole plate of food. You order at the cashier and pay then wait for your order.
