Been here SEVERAL times and its delicious every time. The rolls are a good size and the service is always really great! What prompted me to write a review finally is the fact that I am now eating Keto, so I shouldn't be eating rice. Kei was accommodating to this fact and made me rolls sans rice and used cucumber instead. Holy moly the rolls were still VERY delicious and also very pretty to look at. I came here because my daughter wanted to go. My daughter ordered the sushi and my wife order the tempura, I ordered Mongolian beef. I t was good. They say us right away. The service was just ok. Place was decorated nice. Food came out in a timely manner my wife and daughter. I had to wait. They were half way done before I got my food. Makes you wonder what they were doing back there. I don't like when kitchens don't time the meals to come out at the same time. Make people in your party seam awkward. Do I eat or wait. I want them to enjoy their food. So go ahead and eat I say. I was in Lake Tahoe for my 21st birthday and my boy and i were craving some sushi. After yelping a bit, we finally settled on driving to Kei Sushi due to the reviews. The AYCE definitely caught my eye (; Food: I honestly don't think I've ever had better sushi in my entire life. Most raw fish doesn't settle well with my stomach, so I decided to stick with the most cooked rolls. I ended up ordering 3 rolls: the crystal roll, the ankiu roll, and the volcano roll. The shrimp in the crystal was heavenly. It was soft in the middle and super crunchy on the outside, with enough sauce that it didn't require any soy sauce. The ankiu roll was super creamy because the cream cheese + avocado definitely worked well in their favor. I decided that I was going to order the absolutely fattiest looking thing on the menu for my final roll and settled on a volcano roll. It was a heavenly heart attack. It has tamago, avocado, and cream cheese all fried in tempura batter with a mixture of spicy tuna, roe, and green onions on the top. The volcano sauce really had a kick as well. It was creamy and crunchy and amazing. If I lived in the Nevada area, I'd absolutely come here again just for that roll. My hubby ordered: the rocky roll, the miami roll, and the philly york. I tried his rocky and it was quite good. The spicy tuna has a nice kick to it, but doesn't burn your mouth uncomfortably. I did try his miami roll. It was an unusual combo to say the least. Tempura'd banana with pecans and strawberries on top, all drizzled in chocolate sauce. I'm not quite sure how I feel about it, because it was an unusual combination with the seaweed and rice. Service: They were incredibly polite and made sure we were never out of drinks and that our plates were cleared. Our chef was so awesome. He told jokes with us and kept dinner generally interesting, not to mention that he makes AWESOME sushi! Decor: This is a very modern looking place, I felt like it'd be a little bit of a dressier place. I like how there's space between the chairs at the bar and you're not crammed up next to your neighbor. Overall: I adore this place. I wish I lived in NV just so I could frequent Kei more. Went to Kei Sushi for lunch. The posted hours say they open at 11am. I pulled up at 11:30am and the hang sign was still turned to closed... 'see ya at 11:00' it said. The neon open sign was off. It was the right day (Tuesday). I was about to leave when I saw someone inside. So I tried the door and it was locked. When I was about to drive away someone came and unlocked the door and turned the sign to open. So I went in. The first thing I noticed was the strong smell of pine cleaner. Real strong. I almost left. But the place looked REALLY nice and I was intrigued by the online menu and other nice things about their web site. So I stayed. Well, it was okay... except... the sushi rice kept falling apart and the next thing I knew I had a big mess. There was rice floating in my wasabi dish. Should have asked for a fresh dish but it seemed to be an ongoing problem. This is about the worst mistake a sushi place can make - rice that falls apart. Bummer! I give it a two star rating as there are not that many AYCE in Carson City. I would rather go to Tomo's on Fairview. My experience is I order five things and that is basically it. The Sushi chef that night said I couldn't order that many and had to eat the first two nigeri sushi I ordered first before I could make an additional order. We use to LOVE this place. Having MSG allergies I could come here with no fear at all. The food isn't consistant. The sushi chefs have gone downhill with being personable and prompt. I have eaten here a few times, the service is always wonderful, unfortunately I get sick every time I eat here. I am an avid sushi eater so it's not that. My husband also gets very sick eat time. Our last visit was 1 week ago and we have vowed to never go back. It seems the chefs leave the sushi cabinets open and wash their hands rarely which is poor handling if the fish which equals a very sick stomach every time. I was driving thru Carson City and was looking for an open restaurant on a Sunday evening. Serendipity brought us to Keith Sushi. Much of the decision had to do with the great reviews and photos on Yelp. We arrived late and were welcomed with open arms rather than the usual glance at the clock and rolling eyes that many restaurants generally provide. We had a wonderful server named Christine who continued to make us feel relaxed and welcome. We ordered after looking thru the diverse menu. We were excited about what was to come. Christine came by to let us know that it would be less expensive and more food would come if we simply chose the all you can eat plan. We thanked her for going above and beyond to advise us of that. What followed was some of the best sushi that I have ever been served. The delicate taste infused into what looked like regular sushi rolls was not to be believed. We were treated to a ceviche taco each. It was spectacular. As we enjoyed the best mussels that followed we watched the sushi chef build this magnificent bridge of totally edible, gorgeous presentation that we did our best to finish. The chef took care to arrange an old world remarkable, attention to detail performance. Many higher end, big city restaurants could learn tons from this culinary treat! I was in Carson for a meeting (from Reno), and I had heard that Kei's was really good. They did not disappoint. The space is very clean and comfortable, well decorated. The staff was attentive and service was prompt. The menu was a little different from what you usually see on Reno sushi menus, so I was eager to try a few things. The rolls are so huge that I only ordered the Bangkok and the Ixtapa. The Bangkok includes crystal shrimp, which was fantastic. The crystal in Reno used to be good, but it's usually over-breaded and mushy now. This was a perfect, thin, truly crystal-like shrimp. Wonderful flavor and presentation. The Ixtapa is cooked snapper and avocado - very flavorful, as well. They rolled it in cilantro, which added a really fresh flavor. My friend ordered some spicy tuna, which tasted as good as it looked. She is very picky, but said this was the best tuna she'd had in years. While we were waiting on our second orders, the chefs surprised us with what I would call ceviche on a wonton shell. It was amazing! The lunch AYCE is $16.95, which is only $1 more than what I pay at my favorite place in Reno (and this was decidedly a better experience). I will be looking forward to my next meeting in Carson, if only for the tasty lunch that I will be enjoying afterwards! read more

My new favorite place for sushi! Having had sushi for just about my whole life, it is hard to find a place that can deliver good, fresh sushi (AYCE too) that meet my standards. And they do it consistently! Of course, being in NV, you kind of wonder where they get the fish from since Carson City is a WAYS from the ocean! But no worries, no illness or problems. The sushi chefs are all very nice and won't chase you out if you come in 15 min to close (like some other places by the lake). I recommend the Rooster Salmon, Volcano roll, and the Ceviche tostada (which isn't on the menu, BTW). The only thing is they don't seem to remember your drink order or miso soup for some reason. I would subtract 0.5 star, but can't really. Plus, Zoltar more than makes up for it! read more

Went back today for the re-deux...didn't even bother to ask for the Red Dragon given our last experience and stuck to what was on the menu. Service was OK and the rolls were passable. Not sure what is going on with ownership etc but the sushi is just not what it used to be. The rice was stale and lacked the zip good sushi rice is supposed to have and the fish was not firm-fresh. Came with a party of 20 with reservations and still the customer service needed help. After everyone arrived the waiters couldn't figure out what they were doing and we waited an hour for our bill. The food was very tasty and worth going if it just you and maybe a date. Their organization skills need work and if they know their going to have a big party then they should plan on having more then one person helping the whole table just saying. I've tried lots of sushi places in the Reno Carson area and I was very impressed by Kei sushi. We did wait a little at the beginning more than most places but the meal and service made up for that. They care about presentation and I was impressed that someone asked me what I wanted versus handing me a paper. The rolls came out fast and they looked amazing. The rolls tasted even better. I really enjoy the whole sushi experience. I really do. The STAFF is one of the most important aspects of the experience. Kei's has a great staff, BUT the FOOD is why I go & I am sorry to report, this is not going to be a regular stop in my travels. I am all for the chef's taking a creative & individual approach to their craft, bring it on!. What I am not impressed with is the mundane or over use of the same seasonings. Kei's chef's are heavy handed with the teriyaki sauce. Just about everything I tried had it drizzled over, or worse, the food was sitting in a pool of it, the rice absorbs it & thus makes it almost inedible.... The size of their cut on the raw fish is too large for a single bite....and it is not possible to take a bite from it without it falling apart. The rolled items are clumsy & not constructed with finesse` Overall atmosphere was pleasant and Clean. Their choice for ambient music was great & I really enjoyed it, but, it was almost too odd for the setting.... oldies rock & roll in a Japanese restaurant?
