KELLEY'S If i would go to a bar for a drink it would only be Kelley's a wonderful safe place I guess I am one of those locals that don't try anything new. John and Cory have worked so hard all these yrs and their mom and Dad gave them a good start , They never close, Now both have past on their parents and I miss them dearly. Cory makes the best sandwiches in town with the best prices John prices on drinks can't be beat. Even had a few wild parties in their. The place is a experience you don't want to miss. Just make sure you get a sandwich everything fresh and delicious.Places come and go but Kelleys have been here the longest in Middleburgh, also Good Earth another store in town used to love to go to. Christmas eve would always do my Christmas shopping after a few beers and the owners were really nice people probably one of the oldest stores that stayed in business until 2020 . Three floods the last one did them in, but moved up town to a really great location,no floods. A lot more parking and a really fun place to go exploring. Those were the good old days! Thank you John and Cory for your wonderful food and drinks. A place that will never be forgotten. Great service, real country ambiance. Now the town has changed so much don't go anymore not fun and nowhere to park. read more

Nice place for a cheap cold beer- pretty damn good sandwich and wont break the bank. If you have a decent sense of humor and a resonably quick whit you'll like the bartenders too. Me and my buddies always make sure we make the trip when camping at Max V. Schull or hiking anywhere in the area. read more

First thing to remember when you walk into Kelley's is that it is a local place. Everyone knows each other and the owner/bartender, John Kelley, knows everyone. He bought the bar from his father in 1993 who'd bought it in 1965. It's been a bar since 1936 and most recently survived 40" of flood water from Irene in 2011. We walked in with some trepidation for the first time after passing it for 12 years because my husband wanted a draft beer for his birthday. Three choices - Bud, Genesee and Bud Light, all perfect for a very hot day after a swim. We each settled on a pint of Bud and when I counted the change from my $20 it came to $17! Yes, a pint is $1.50! Cheapest beer I've had in years. It was icy cold and fresh too. There was also a selection of beer in bottles and a full, well stocked bar. We didn't eat but others at the bar did and it looked good. John said they serve "bar food." The atmosphere is what some might describe as a dive bar but I think of it as "historical." There is a super long shuffleboard table which appears to be unused, wood paneling and every inch of wall space is covered with beer/liquor promo items or pictures or tchotkes of some kind. The bar is worn formica and the floor standard linoleum. There is, however, an internet jukebox, three TVs showing sports and various phone chargers behind the bar that patrons can use so it's not all 20th century. Here's the real reason to go -- the comfortable local flavor. We arrived a bit before 5 and as we sat there, more people -- almost all men -- came in for their Friday after work drinks. The talk was heavily sprinkled with the F-word, local gossip, a discussion of opening day at Saratoga and Joe Walsh. People were friendly once we were there for a while and by the time we left, we were being called by our names, teased as if we were old friends and advised to stay for another beer and "take the back roads" home. Coming from out of town with a brit in-tow, we were looking for a real american experience. Kelley's did not dissapoint. A Spirited scene on both sides of the bar, cheap drinks, and sports on every television. All inside of a bar that's been in operation since before WW2... Hard to find places like this now-a-days. I have been to plenty of bars in my day and this has to be the worst. Its a local bar. There are some things you expect with a local bar. But walking in immediately the bartender had an attitude. Asked my group for ID, what we wanted, and without hesitation said the IDs alone didn't pay for the beers, which would be taken as humor any other time except for the way he said it. I then proceeded to ask him if the June box (which gives daily credits for free) had any because it was quiet in the bar. He proceeded to ask me if I owned a bar would I give away things for free. The final straw was when I asked for a chilled shot of Jameson. Without even looking at me he said they are sold as is and didn't even offer to chill it. I understand I'm not a "local" but if you want to bring in some business don't be such a rude bartender. read more

Is there anything sweeter than having low expectations of a place, and then being blown away by how great it turns out to be?! That is exactly what happened to my husband and me on Monday, President's day. After finding out the local brewery in Middleburgh was closed on Mondays, we had to adjust our plans quickly. Yelp had Kelley's Grill listed as an option. It looked "interesting" to me but my husband was skeptical. We gave it a shot and are thrilled that we did. The place is authentic, nothing contrived here. Very rustic place with the owner being a man of few words. 3 domestic and 1 import beers on tap. A no brainer, we ordered a pint of Smithwick's for $3.50, an unheard of price in Albany! Feeling pretty good from our beer, we asked if the kitchen was open. A local at the end of the bar suggested the turkey sandwich saying the owner cooked up a couple of turkeys each week for that exact use. We were blown away by our fresh and delicious turkey sandwiches, piled high with hand-carved, moist slabs of turkey breast. The additional dill pickle slices, coleslaw and potato chips were perfect accompaniments. When we complimented John Kelley on our fantastic meal, he simply said, "If you keep the menu simple, anyone can be a cook". Amazing. It will now be a destination for us, a slice of Americana slowly dissolving from our countrysides. read more

A friendly local pub with nice atmosphere, and the food is definitely above average. Not an extremely late night place, but busy during happy hour. The turkey club sandwich is delicious. read more

I was only there as a 5 year old with my grandfather circa 1980, but I still remember sitting with him drinking a root beer while he got drunk in anticipation for the drive back up the mountain. Glad to see Kelley's is still around! read more
