Love lobster and came to Kelley's / Danvers for a lobster roll, it was a great roll. I ask, not expecting a gluten free bun, toasted- no problem. My roll was filled with lobster and a pickle and chips, all gluten free. Lobster was fresh and had minimal Mayo. Thanks for a great meal, a real treat. This is the fifth time I have been to Kelly's in the last year or so, though I have been there many times over the years. I had the small Roast Beef Sandwich two times and it was amazing - so good. I had the Lobster Roll three times, with a few months in between each visit. The first time it was lousy but I cut them some slack and went back a second time and it was still lousy, so the next time I had the Roast Beef, as I'd mentioned, and it was very good. Went today and had the Lobster Roll and this was the worst ever. Even more watery, tasteless, weird texture and the distinct impression that this is a frozen, thawed out product. Poor quality and a big disappointment. My son had the Fried Haddock sandwich and it was excellent, though. It is a shame as the Lobster was always my ''go to.'' Now, I will ''go to'' another restaurant. I will say, though, that the staff is always exceptionally nice and eager to help and provide good service. read more

We've stopped at Kelley's a handful of times now that my daughter is up this way for school. It's a bit more pricey than your typical fast food places but I feel the quality is much better. The roast beef is fabulous but we've also had the pulled beef, chicken sandwich, and fish sandwich which were all delicious, albeit a little messy on the fish and pulled beef. My daughter got the cheeseburger tonight and I have to say, they were a little slim on the beef. The portions have otherwise been generous and their French fries and onion rings awesome! They are social distancing and taking the necessary COVID precautions. I'm sure we will be back! read more

Oh how I miss Kelly's roast beef! I love the surf and turf here. The lobstah roll is so tasty! The bun is buttery and toasty. The lobster is buttery, succulent and is not soaked in mayo. It's made to perfection. The roast beef sandwiches are to die for! Everything I've tried on the Kelly's menu is so good! The clam chowdah here is not rich. The broth consistency is watery. This can take a sec to get used to when you're used to thick, rich chowders. Give it a chance though, it is actually delicious. I was told that this style of clam chowder is Rhode Island style.??? This location is great and spacious, but not open as late as the one on route 1 south. This is a fantastic New England chain. Pleeeez open one in Florida! read more

In the past two months I've gone through the drive through the drive thru only to find out that either I was given a different sandwich that I didn't order or like today where I got home and my turkey club had no turkey or bacon. I should check my order before I leave the driver through but then again, there is not going to be a next time. They suck! read more

Best clam chowder with lots of diced clams, potatoes in a delish stock. Not thick chowder, but rich with a half and half consistency. Generous with the oyster crackers too in the quart order. Service always polite and swift at the drive up window. Don't forget to leave the the young workers a generous tip! read more

Has gone completely downhill. Ordered burger and fries. Fries were stone cold and greasy told them said no problem would get hot ones. Bite into the burger and it was paper thin and raw on inside. Brought it to the counter and got dirty looks from the person putting the order. They bring me a small plate of fries and after about 10 minutes my burger showed up. Advertise quarter pound burger but it wasn't even close. All you could taste was the bun lettuce and tomato. I'm visiting the area, and Kelly's was recommended for a roast beef sandwich; while I was in the drive-through, I saw they had fried clams, so I ordered them; the roast beef was very good, lots of roast beef piled high on a tasty bun; the sauce was a good tangy, I loved it; the clams, not so much; they were dry and rubbery, not crunchy at all; it was hard to eat them, so I sadly wasted $26.50, as I only ate four of the clams, hoping one would be good; I also got three onion rings and a box full of french fries, which were actually pretty good. Not know for it's clams, but the roast beef will do you right. I didn't go inside to see how clean it was, but there was ample parking. read more

I'm visiting from out of town and decided to give this place a try via Doordash. The service itself was fine as everything was packaged nice and neat as well as having an adequate temperature. The problem was the FOOD. I ordered a clam chowder, chicken tenders, and a fish plate. With the exception of the chicken tenders, everything was BLAND. It had no taste whatsoever. The clam chowder was extremely watery. The fish was hot (and it was a nice size) but it just didn't have a taste. The tartar sauce was ewww, it was thick; very thick. It had a taste but I dunno what type of taste it was. It was gross. The french fries and the onion rings were even nasty. LOL. This was my first time visiting the Boston area; I wish that this wasn't the first restaurant that I tried when I got here. read more

My second time visiting a Kelly's, first time getting a lobster roll. I've never had one before, and I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was really delicious. I tried their fish and chips and I enjoyed that as well. I liked how spacious it is inside, the fish tank, and the historic pictures and murals. The woman who took our order was very nice and attentive. I'm giving 3 stars bc I found a hair hanging off the roll, but thankfully the same woman came by at the same time I found it and was able to get it remade. read more

I find myself agreeing whole heartedly with those reviewers who felt Kelly's sandwiches are overpriced. I got the large roast beef with the "usual" toppings: lettuce, mayo, tomato, and a slice of American Cheese (like the kind wrapped in plastic). There was no special sauce, at least none that I could taste. This went along with the roast beef in a sesame seed bun. The wife got the Reuben sandwich, which included a little bag of Utz Potato Chips. We also got a small order of onion rings. Both sandwiches were good and seemingly of decent quality. However, I felt prices were around 40% higher than they should have been if you compare it to a comparable roast beef sandwich shop like Mike's or Arby's. The fact that you can get quality meals through a drive thru is UNREAL. Kelly's is great for midday munchies or late night snacks. The drive thru was super quick, and my cheese burger meal came out hot and fresh. They toast their buttery buns, fresh tomato, and a nice burger patty. The onion rings are super crispy too! Also, they put ketchup in a small little container rather than packets. Personally, I hate opening ketchup packets so that's a plus! This is my first visit to Kelly's Roast Beef... and it will NOT be the last! After Reading couple reviews on Yelp, i decided to get the Surf & Turf as I really wanted a lobster roll but the smell of roast beef upon entering the restaurant had my mouth watering. Now i have had better Lobster Rolls down in Plymouth but this one was still packed full of lobster and tasted pretty darn good. And the roast beef sandwich... well... let me tell you... the meet was tender and juicy, definitely a hit. The Staff were GREAT!!! Very welcoming and nice. Access to the to this particular place was a challenge especially if your not from these parts, the parking lot is small and the parking lot entrances & exit have you trying to figure out if you should just a curb. I think i will get the oysters or crab roll next time to see how they are. read more

I'm a carnivore, dammit. Make no mistake, while I'm technically an omnivore, eating green stuff to keep the pipes clean and help keep the well-oiled machine at 100%, I love meat. On my 2nd Annual New England Domination Tour, I had the opportunity to chug some meat NE style, courtesy of a local chain called Kelly's (see "Good Will Hunting"). Tired after a long flight, my homie offers to stop at Kelly's while on the way back to his house. Its kelly-green sign shining like beacon in the cold New England night, I had no choice but to heed its beefy siren song. Pulling up to the drive-thru and scanning the menu with my jet-lagged eyes, I see it - large roast beef. With Swiss. The lady asks if we want salt & pepper on the side...uh, sure, I guess. After paying at the first window, we pull up to the second, where we quickly grab the bag and scoot home. After about 20 or so minutes we get to his house, where the first order of business is tearing into that sandwich. Saying hi to his wife can wait. The clear plastic container it was packed in made it seem a little more upscale than the paper-wrapped examples you'd get at a place like Arby's. And upon closer examination, it's definitely more upscale. The sesame seed bin alone was bigger than a typical Arby's roast beef. And the beef itself was actual honest to goodness roast beef, rare, with ragged edges here and there, suggesting it actually came off an actual slab of beef, and not a processed cylinder of meat-like substance. Taking a bite, the beef isn't bad; soft, but not too fatty, and beefy. The Swiss was typical Swiss, giving a nutty, buttery bite at the end. I was glad they asked if we wanted salt and pepper on the side, since they seem to take the minimalist approach to roast beef, applying minimal seasoning. Cool with me, since I just want to taste the meat. I sprinkle on a little bit of salt and pepper from the packets and get back to work. So, would I go back? Sure I would...it's beef. While their roast beef sandwiches are simple...just beef and a bun (cheese extra), as the saying goes, sometimes less is more. Because sometimes you don't want lettuce, dry rubs, sauces, or other fancy things getting between a man and his meat. read more

I don't see what all the fuss is about. The roast beef is doesn't have a great beefy flavor and was cooked more than I would have preferred. The pastrami, although they did the yellow mustard and extra pickles well, was itself a bit too fatty --even for pastrami. The onion rings were OK. The issue I have is with the prices. I paid way too much for the quality of food that I received. I've had better roast beef and pastrami from basic sub shops. I don't agree with the Yelper who complained about the parking lot. It wasn't that difficult to figure out. Just different. I'm sure they had their reasons, the place probably gets busy based on how popular it is with some people. Me, not so much. read more

I don't live in New England, but I've eaten at Kelly's (Danvers) four times now, and I've had a few epiphanies: 1. Don't order the Lobster Roll before the lunch rush I made the mistake of driving thru ~11:30a. I think they served me yesterday's lobster. It was so fishy, I drove back to Kelly's to get a refund (which they promptly did + apology). Don't get me wrong, the Lobster Roll is really good at Kelly's, just get it at dinner. 2. Fried dishes (scallops, clams, onion rings, etc.) only have a life expectancy of 8mins! mins 0~4: Oh wow, this is really good mins 4~6: Mmm, this is pretty good mins 6~8: Gawd, that's greasy mins 8+: I can't eat anymore of this $%&!# So, the key here is if you can scarf down a clam roll in 6mins, it's allgood. Anything beyond that and you're regretting the meal. The extension of this rule is that if you take-out anything fried, and you live farther than 6mins away, you're better off getting a roast beef sandwich (or better yet, a roast beef sandwich at Nick's!...sorry Kelly's!). 3. Try the Clam Chowder As other reviewers mentioned, the Clam Chowder at Kelly's is 'thin'. This is by no means a minus. I actually prefer it to the the 'thicker' chowders. I can imagine that dunking some crusty baguette in it would be really tasty. Also, it's really full of clam flavor. It's possibly my favorite dish there. read more

Reading some of these reviews really wants me to try the original Kelly's. Being an original west coaster, I definitely think North Shore roast beef sandwiches are at treat. I have not yet seen a place in California that serves food like Kelly's. The thought of the warm, thinly sliced roast beef on a buttery toasted bun makes my mouth water. The prices at Kelly's are pretty expensive considering in the North Shore there are many other roast beef joints that serve the same thing. I have noticed that the sandwiches served at Kelly's look more put together versus other places where it looks a little messy. My cousin visiting from the South had the lobster roll here and while he enjoyed it, he thought it had a bit too much mayo for his tastes. The fried seafood is sometimes hit or miss. The one tip I would keep in mind when ordering at Kelly's is you have to order the other condiments/toppings or you'll end up with just a meat and bread sandwich. I forgot to inform one of my friends visiting and well, she ended up with a meat and bread sandwich when she was accustomed to lettuce/tomatoes automatically being on it. The last few times I have been here we've used a deal and we're always getting someone who doesn't know how to make the transaction through a smartphone. Seriously, are we always the first one doing that? We've done this a few times and it always ends up that the cashier has to get a higher up to take over. read more

This review doesn't include the inside of the restaurant due to the COVID-19 mandate. It was an early Friday evening and service at the drive up was very busy. Let me start with from my viewpoint Kelly's isn't about value. I feel the sandwiches are on the pricey end. I ordered a " meal" at the drive up: Sandwich, a combo of fries & onion rings along with a diet coke from a friendly voice I could clearly understand without any static. Not to go off track, but there are times when at a drive up you either get so much static that you end up repeating the order several times... Or, the person on the other end has a difficult time understanding the order.... We've all be there, right??? There were several cars ahead but the wait wasn't too bad. When it became my turn my order was packaged exactly as I asked for. I was starving, paid and parked in the lot to ingest my meal. Opening it, the sandwich looked great. However the fries and onion rings not so much.....the rings WAAAAY over fried. Ok, small price to pay. The sandwich of which they are famous for was excellent.... So what can I say.... It's a tough time. Restaurants are dealing with being short staffed and unable to operate as well as they'd like to be. This place is much better than what I expected! Have cravings for lobster roll and other satisfying hearty food? This place is for you. It is a very typical fast-food style dining room. The food does take a little bit of time despite it's just sandwiches, etc. So don't come if you are really rushed for time. For about 15 bucks, you can have the surf and turf which is a small lobster roll, the roast beef sandwich and fries or onion rings. I really wanted a lobster roll since I'm visiting from the west coast, but want to try their famous roast beef too. So the surf and turf is perfect! It's like they read my mind... Several other things on the menu looked good too, such as the clam plate and the scallop plate. The dining area is incredibly clean and spacious. It's almost too clean for this type of restaurant. There is a very amusing salt water tank with clown fish, etc. dividing the ordering counter and the dining area. It makes the long waiting period pleasant. This is int he same shopping center as nordtrom rack, khols, and bestbuy, and is across the street from bed bath and beyond. So there are plenty of opportunities to walk off those extra calories after dining. read more

Ordered it to be delivered to our Air BNB and had no issues, however what we got was less than stellar. Three of us got burgers and the other group member got a chicken sandwich. The burgers were okay, the chicken sandwich was not good at all. The onion rings were soggy and had no flavor, the fries had absolutely no flavor and they were cold. Wouldn't recommend. read more

When they became a large chain restaurant and started cutting corners, the product and service hit the skids. This one of their many locations in the north shore area and it is by far the best place to get some deep fried seafood and their loaded lobster roll is amazing. I've tried many restaurants and their take of tartar sauces and Kelly's remains #1 on my list. I literally eat cups of it with my fried seafood and bacon cheese fries! The cup of clam of chowder is delicious too... not your typical thick and creamy chowder... but light and soup-like. I always get the seafood platter with my scallops well done! Every time I give Kelly's in Danvers another shot I'm disappointed. Maybe it's my fault for thinking it will get better. My main reason for writing a review is the quality and cost. Kelly's is perhaps the worst value of any restaurant I've been too. My wife and I got a lobster roll and a roast beef combo. It cost $40. That's absurd. The lobster meat in the roll was wet and mushy. Hard to determine what part of the lobster it came from. The actual roll was good but very small. The roast beef was sliced pretty thick. Not sure if it was just an oversight or what but I was surprised by the thickness. It was a very average roast beef. I've had much better at smaller places in the north shore. The fries that came with the combo were undercooked and inedible. Not very good at all. Overall I'm pretty sure this will be my last time at Kelly's. It always leaves me unsatisfied, underwhelmed and wanting more. read more

Great chicken sandwich and friendly staff as always! My boyfriend ordered the fish sandwich which was also nice. It's a great alternative to fast food when you need a fast late night bite.
