I don't know what happened to Kelly's. Yesterday, I had the worst piece of fish I've ever had. Yes, I ate it all, only because I was too lazy to go back to the restaurant and tell them what a horrible piece of fish it was. I've had the rancid taste in my mouth all last night. When I go to the dentist this morning, I'll have to apologize for my horrible breath. As I've gotten older, I have added more and more establishments to my list of places I will never go to again. I am so sad to write this but I wish I could go back in time and not eat here. It was our first time. There were either fruit flies, gnats, or sewer flies everywhere. The service was ok and fast but the food was very bland. We ordered the scallop roll which comes with fries and onion rings. The scallops were ok but the fries were unseasoned, dry and had a soapy taste. We also had a cup of clam chowder which was good, with a lot of clams, it was not thick which I like but my boyfriend didn't like it. We also had the Buffalo chicken wrap, this was good and worth the money. We would order this if we ever went back. I think it was expensive for a really mediocre food. read more

First, let me say Kelly's is an institution in Massachusetts. I've been coming to Kelly's when the Revere store was the only one. I have been to every store in Mass. It is my opinion that the Saugus store is the best. Maybe it's an optical illusion, but they seem to put more on the plate than all the other stores. I have never had a bad experience at any store. Occasionally, there may be slightly more grease, but let's face it, it's fried food, what do you expect? The staff is always helpful & knowledgable. I like the way they give you the number tag, then they bring out your food to your table when it is ready. How they find you in the large store in Saugus is beyond me. But they do. I keep a close eye on service in the food industry. I can't wait until they open the new store in Dedham this Summer. My recondition. If you like fried seafood give Kelly's a try. read more

Went to Kelly's on Revere Beach Pkwy., Medford,Ma. Ordered a roast beef with an side of onion rings. Got back and only had onion rings. I called immediately, and was told my sandwich was there, and they would make me a fresh one. Unfortunately I walk with a cane, and it took me 1/2 hr. to get there. It's been a minute since getting food from Kelly's, happened to be in Everett and made the short ride to this location. We went with the Lobster Roll which continued to be made of high quality pieces however it seemed about half the portion size of our visits to other locations a few years ago. Memories can be misleading so I took a look through pictures of other yelpers from 4-5 years ago and it would appear something changed. Roast Beef sandwich was the other choice and while the portion was large, the beef was well done and dry. BBQ sauce was less for flavor and more about adding some moisture. Disappointing, average and expensive. I don't plan on a return visit soon. read more

I went into this restaurant yesterday hoping to get at least a dissent experience but instead I got the worst food I have ever tasted the lobster role tasted like gum without the flavor and the beef if you could call it that tasted so bad I could not even eat it without the urge of vomiting and the service just as bad I saw one of the employees wearing airpods while working and one was just on their form texting the only employee that was doing something cleaning the tables and disposing of the trash was doing a better job than the people the register also I saw one of the cashiers waiter pick their nose and did not bother to wash there hands I recommend never to eat here ever again if you care about your health and your sense of taste when I recommend is you eat at the gas station The food and service is better. read more

This place is so reminiscent to the days gone by on Revere Beach and the original Kelly's Roast Beef. It's said that was the place that first made a roast beef sandwich. This location is new and fancy compared with the takeout stand on the beach I grew up with. This Kelly's is a corporate America restaurant. Where the folklore of the original lives on in many locations such as this one. I tend to reminisce back to the days when I was walking by as a boy with my German Shepherd Buddy and Old Man Kelly used to call me over from across the street so he can give roast beef ends to my dog what a great man. I'm glad that his legacy lives on in many different locations now very well deserved. As for the food the roast beef is legendary and the clam chowder is the bomb chicken fingers are fabulous and the sea food is out of this world the clams taste exactly how they did 30 years ago. And don't even mention you know good tarta (tarter) until you try Kelly's there's no other like it. And when on Revere Beach or at any Kelly's Roast Beef locations you need to eat your fries the Old School Revere way with a bunch of tarta. FYI. Try a real lobster roll. ENJOY‼‼‼ read more

I went back to Boston for family business. I used to be a regular at the Kelly's at the beach. I really don't know what has happened to Kelly's, but it's not good. The service was poor, but the clams were worse. I always crave fried clams as you can't find them in SoCal. What a huge disappointment:( Over cooked, over priced and under sized. Only offering clam rolls and plates, no pints anymore I guess. Sadly , i will not bother returning on my next visit. They're prettt awful, the crappy service didn't help either. A lot of workers milling about, chit chatting, not bothering to notice customers. Later I went to another place my in Everett that nephew suggested, that was way better. Sadly the Natick location has closed so ventured out to Medford. The drive was lengthy from Newton but well worth it! This location is small but there was enough seating at lunch time so it wasn't an issue. Our clam plates came out piping hot and cooked to perfection. Went to Kelly's today in Pasadena, Fl. Whole clam roll was very good. Also had the large lobster roll. Was disappointed with it. Lobster was very watery and didn't have the nice sweet lobster taste. Second meal here. I had a cup of chowder that was quite tasty but not very thick. It did however have a lot of clam meat, more than I've had in any chowder so far. I never really write reviews but I honestly was so disappointed by everything we ordered. The "crispy chicken sandwich" looked like a frozen chicken finger on a roll with 1 piece of lettuce, the thinnest layer of what they call honey mustard (which looked and tasted like mayonnaise with a hint of horseradish instead) and pepper jack cheese that's was ice cold and the chicken sandwich was the least terrible of the whole order. The fries and onion rings also seemed frozen, no seasoning what so ever and were luke warm. The cole slaw was decent, the only thing that seemed fresh and maybe have even been made in house. The absolute worst part... the "Clam tenders". I assumed this is just what they call clam strips because clam strips were not on their menu but I was very wrong. The size was not natural... they were like clam strips on steroids and probably are. I tried to get past the look of them but they were East her overcooked and chewy or somehow sandy even those these were strips and not full clams. This place is usually a stop for me and my husband when we're in Boston. A friend introduced it to us when we did our own little clam chowder tour all over Boston a few years back. Their clam chowder is good -- different from traditional ones because it's not at thick, so it's a good stop if you're looking to try something new. There's a lot of clams and potatoes in it, so a quart is usually more than enough between the two of us. Drink a lot of water though, since it does tend to be on the salty side. In general, I'm usually just confused when I go. It's like fast food, but the prices seem way too high for fast food. Ordered the Surf and Turf today. I have noticed a slow downgrade on the quantity and quality if this meal. Lobster now has big rubbery overcooked pieces. The roast beef sandwich has less roast beef and bigger bun. I don't even want to mention how the bun was burnt! The amount of fries and onion rings are getting less and less every time. It's really sad and frustrating to see an iconic place like Kelly's go downhill slowly.
